Action Construction is a family-owned & operated company. We have been in business for over 30 years, providing General Contracting Services to residential and business customers. Action Construction has been doing business throughout Fairfield & New Haven Counties in Connecticut and Westchester, Putnam & Dutchess Counties in New York. We can provide services for all your needs. from basic plumbing, heating, air-conditioning or electrical needs to major remodeling projects, including kitchen & bath remodeling, all types of masonry work…fireplaces, chimneys, patios, tiling…as well as decks. I gave $300 through Angie's List. 2 men came and measured and they did not follow through. I sent 2 emails and called. Finally, I received a call but I could not speak. I called back 2 days later and I was told by the woman on the phone she would find my file and call me back. There was no call back. I emailed and canceled them. I understand that after 30 days I cannot get my money back. I find this unfair since the company could not handle my job and led me on by coming and measuring within the 30 days. After 30 days they were non-responsive.

Window was not put in or adjusted correctly. Was in touch during the past year and was promised it would be fixed. When I got in touch a couple of months ago - my calls were never returned. Now I will have to hire someone else, through personal recommendation, to fix the problem.

Overall they did a great job, but had to come back for some touch ups. Additionally, the top coat of the resurface did not wear as well as I'd hoped. If it wasn't for that, I would give them an A.

PART 2: BASEMENT JOB WENT WELL. PART 1: ORIGINAL JOB PURCHASED DID NOT GO WELL AT ALL. HIGH PRICE FOR WINDOW INSTALLED PLUS ORIGINAL PRICE FOR ANGIE'S LIST SPECIAL DEAL ALL PREPAID. 2 WEEKS LATER WINDOW WAS INSTALLED BADLY. FRAME AROUND WINDOW WAS DAMAGED AND THE SPECIALLY ORDERED WINDOW DID NOT CLOSE COMPLETELY. I WAS THEN TOLD BY THE BOSS THAT SOMEONE WOULD HAVE TO COME BACK TO FIX THE WINDOW AND FRAME. AFTER 6 PHONE CALLS WITH 6 EXCUSES OVER THE PERIOD OF 10 MONTHS TO REMIND THE BOSS FOR COMPLETION OF JOB, I CALLED THE OFFICE NUMBER AND LEFT 2 MESSAGES WITH NO RESPONSE. .

Did a good job on part of the repair but made a mess of something else which I had to hire another mason to repair. It was my fault. I should have known better the moment I was being upsold. Buyer beware.

Service was generally ok, but timing was off and billing was painful - They originally said they were providing a discount in per hour cost, but was initially billed for double the time worked due to a "billing error" (invoice said $5k for work done beyond the 8 hours covered by Angie's list coupon, but should have been $2.5k). When I pointed out the error we went back and forth because they no longer wanted to give me the per hour discount. They wanted to charge me $3.5k instead of $2.5k (even though initial quote was ~$2.5k - $3k). We finally agreed on $3k just to close out and be done.

Negotiated some additional work during project review. Joints were not completely scraped and refilled as I expected and were instead patched. Stone resetting work was done competently and neatly. Feel I was overcharged as coupon work should have been enough to cover complete joint scraping and resealing.

To be fair, Stan said the job could not be finished in 8 man-hours due to multiple coats of spackle required. They would need to come out at least 3 times. What he didn't mention was that each time he would send out 2 guys, regardless of what was left to do. So, the second and third times they came out, it really only needed to be one person. The other guy could catch up on Candy Crush while the main guy sanded the first coat and applied the second coat. What I thought might end up being a 16-hour job turned into a 32-hour job. The low score on professionalism is because my newly refinished floor in there now looks like it was done 15 years ago because every time they put down their saws they left scratches and teeth marks in the floor. My wife wanted to kill me for hiring these guys. After all that, I still need to sand the 3rd coat before I can paint the ceiling. The ceiling itself was fine - they did a decent job replacing the drywall. But the other issues made the overall level of satisfaction quite low.

I changed the flapper but it was still leaking. When the tech arrived, it was not leaking, so no work was done. However, he asked me for another $49, in addition to the $49 I had already paid for the deal. I printed out the deal terms and showed him that I was not required to pay him another $49, he refused to leave without the money. I called the company directly and spoke with the office manager and said the terms of the deal did not require me to pay any additional money. She said the deal terms were confusing and agreed that I should not pay any additional money. I think the deal terms are quite clear, but the technician tries to get additional funds from customers. I think this is extremely misleading.
