It went very well considering that the raised foundation created a difficult first take of pouring concrete within 4 foot high moldings....the team of exports knocked this out without a delay in time or schedule. Our family couldn't be happier with the results and extra 500 sq. feet of living space.
Gary and his excellent crew basically gutted the interior of the structure down to the studs. Here's the details of what they did:
1. Demolished a massive brick fireplace, originally the incinerator.
2. Stripped two walls (where the fireplace was) down to the studs, re-framed them to repair dry rot and termite damage and installed new dry wall with a skim coat.
3. Covered portions of two other walls that were brick with a skim coat.
4. Installed a completely new electrical system (two 20 amp circuits) which included eight new outlets, a ceiling fan, two exterior lights and one outdoor electrical outlet. This also leaves me set-up to install a mini-split heating and air conditioning system at a later date.
5. Removed four layers of old roofing, repaired more termite damage and dry rot and re-sheathed and re-roofed the space.
6. Removed seven dry rotted windows, re-framed everything and replaced them with Anderson block frame 100 series Fibrex windows.
7. Removed a door and installed double French doors in a new location that now open into my garden.
8. When the old door was removed, Gary had to repair the hole in wall which included matching existing brick work.
9. When the French doors were installed a new brick pathway had to be created to connect the doors to an existing brick patio. The brick work was flawless and match brick work installed 20 years ago.
10. Created new brick planters on either side of the French doors.
11. Leveled the existing concrete floor, poured a new concrete base and installed Saltillo tiles.
12. Covered a partial brick exterior with stucco.
13. He added interior and exterior molding around all the windows and doors.
14. Painted everything into a color scheme to match my home.
15. Cleaned up everything so you'd never know they were there.
Working with Gary Frazier was a pleasure, he is a gentleman, honest, calm and a skilled and knowledgeable professional. He was willing to discuss changes and always had a good solution to any surprise or problem that came up. He provided a written contract for all the work discussed and for all the changes we made during construction. He did what he said he would do and more. He has a great crew, they were on time, cleaned up after themselves and generally pleasant to have around. This project came in on budget and turned out much better than I ever imagined it would.
Gary and his team have been a pleasure to work with. There have been a lot of challenges with the city and with the surprises that come with remodeling, but Gary has been great about communicating every step of the way. When not delayed by the city, Gary and the crew have worked quickly and with pride in craft. Gary has explained options on the way to help us save material costs. Though some of the unforeseen variables did increase costs, he was patient and fair in negotiations. He is very responsive and responsible and is committed to completing the job according to agreement and plans. Whenever needed, he personally checks on the work and makes corrections. He also responds to the needs of neighbors inconvenienced by the work, which helps us stay on good terms. One of my favorite aspects to working with the team has been that they even did some little repairs to the house free of charge that were not requested but easy to do and made a big improvement to the overall look.

First of all my quote of the job is just estimated. I don't choose to share exactly what I spent, but they were extremely reasonable.
REVIEW: I was looking for a reasonable contractor to remodel my master bedroom. A friend of mine suggested Action Home Remodeling and Construction. I was skeptical, because their name just sounded like it was going to cost me a fortune. Believing In my friend I went ahead and called Action Home Remodeling and scheduled an appointment with a gentleman name Mr. Gary. The day he showed up to my residence, we took a walk through the area we were looking at remodeling. Mr. Gary gave my husband and I some great ideas and suggested things we hadn't even thought about in relation to remodeling our Master Bedroom. Within just a weeks time, he provided us with preliminary drawings and an estimated cost for the project. A couple of the other contractor's that I checked out were talking about spending thousands of dollars on plans before they would event give me an estimate. We were so impressed with Mr. Gary over the other contractor's that we gave him the go ahead for the job of re-designing and remodeling our master bedroom, after just a couple of days thought. Mr. Gary took care of everything from the plans to obtaining all building permits. Mr. Gary and his crew worked very clean and professional and they worked six days a week exception of Sundays. When the job was completed it was better than I envisioned, all went as planned, and there were no surprises at the end. I am getting my $$$ in order now so that I can have him remodel my Kitchen and bathroom at the beginning of the year. We have recommended him to so many of our friends because I couldn't be more pleased. I am no longer a skeptic of this company. Angie's List, thank you, because if my friend would have found Mr. Gary on your website, I would probably be upset right now. I recommend Action Home Remodeling and Angie's List........
Gary and his crew built a new garage addition to our house from the ground up. He then built a new storage shelf extending the width of the garage. It only took two days for him to complete the second job, and again, we were quite satisfied with the outcome. I have learned that no construction job is completely free from unforeseen problems, and sometimes one just has to let go of minor imperfections when all is said and done. With this said, I would highly recommend Gary and his crew. He is very professional and easy to work with as other customers have stated. He responds quickly to problems that arise and is on site as much as possible - which cannot be said about many other contractors. Quality work and professionalism are important to me, and that is what I expect when I hire Action Home Remodeling. I will definitely be contacting Gary again for future projects.
Having hired and been displeased with a previous contractor and remodeling experience, I was quite hesitant having to hire another contractor for another job, so I read a lot of reviews and met with several contractors before I decided to hire Gary. I am quite happy to say that I have nothing but good things to say about Gary Frazier and his company. He has been a pleasure to work with. He was very patient during the planning stage and worked with my husband and I until we were comfortable with all aspects of the contract. He did what he said he was going to do, answered questions promptly, did quality work, and completed the job within estimated timeframe. Gary is very friendly and professional - really an overall nice guy. We hired him to build a new garage, and then added a walkway and storage shelf because we were so pleased with his work and the way he handled all related matters. I highly recommend him for general contracting work and will definitely use him again for any future remodeling needs. I look forward to working with him again.
The senitments of other reviewers are spot on. Gary is one of the nicest, most pleasant, flexible, hard working and understanding persons one can meet. He provides detailed estimates, provides ideas and suggestions, and is accommodating to everyday things that pop up in typical remodeling situations. While he didn't install the new wood flooring, he helped with finding solution for multiple layers of existing flooring (laminate, carpeting and hard wood). He suggested sizing of tiles, shared designs and photos of other work to provide ideas for tile work in baths and kitchen. He includes all builiding materials in his estimate, which are consistently reasonable, and leaves the choice of finishing materials to the home owner (the homeowner should identify things like molding preferences). As an example, a drainage situation was identified in the backyard and remodeling project added a slight detour to add rain gutter in preparation for some storms forecasted. On the day of the storm, Gary took time to dig a trench to help with the drainage problem. He then provided ideas on a long term solution. While the projects didn't complete as initially scheduled, it was entirely the result of add on work throughout. Again Gary demonstrated his flexibility to accommodate changes in direction and add on work.
There should be more service providers like Gary in the general construction service industry of this kind. What else can be said besides the above except that as additional work is identified for the house, Gary will be engaged to perform the work.
This is my first time using Angie's List and I am very happy with the results! I received 4 estimates for work to be completed. Action Home Remodeling and its owner, Gary Frazier, provided the most reasonable estimate for the services I needed. His estimate was clear, specific and precise. He is a professional who is honest, which is very hard to find. He is not a salesman.
He started work on June 4, 2012 and completed work on June 21, 2012. He responded quickly when I called him and was always available to take my calls. He communicated by text, phone and e-mail. He had a contract specifying work to be completed and cost for said work.
When I asked for additional work to be done or upgrades, he was very accommodating. He completed all tasks and I was impressed with all of the work he and his team did. His attention to detail and abilities exceeded my expectations. I had to wait five weeks until insurance paid me to start repairs and when I hired Action Home, I was worried about time to complete work and when I would finally get back in my home. I was expecting problems, but I did not have any with Gary. Gary's time estimate and work product are second to none and I recommend his services highly.
During the first week, he had all of the walls back in my house and started the difficult task of fixing damage to the master bath, which has marble flooring and wall coverings. He went out of his way to find matching marble tile (a difficult task and one I appreciate so much) and he even copied a decorative marble pattern to match other parts of bathroom and cut marble to make it all work. He re-textured the bathroom walls, installed WonderBoard, primed and painted rooms, put in new molding in all of the rooms and hallway. He was very accommodating, and although he did increase his original estimate due to the fact that I wanted to upgrade the base molding and door casings, his costs were reasonable. I purchased the wood molding and he had to seal. prime and paint it. It came out beautifully.
After I saw molding, I wanted to put in new door casings that were upgraded and Gary gave me a new contract to do that work and the original time estimate of two weeks was extended by a few more days. The doors casings had to be chalked, primed and painted. When I wanted to add lighting to the hallway, he was able to provide that service as well and he did an excellent job.
Basically, I had to very reluctantly remodel my home due to severe water damage caused by a pipe breaking. Overall, this was a very good experience during a very difficult time and I definitely would use his services again in the future.

In late December or early January, we gave Action a call to give us a quote on some remodeling. Gary was able to come out very quickly and we got a great vibe from him instantly. He listened to what we said and our budget concerns and didn't try convincing us to upgrade things that weren't concerns (like other contractors we met) and made suggestions about ways to make the project more affordable. After we got a few quotes, we decided to go with Action because of the price (tied for lowest) and because we liked Gary.
We wanted to get started ASAP to ensure we would finish by May because I'm pregnant. The project was supposed to take two months and we were hoping for an early February start but with getting engineering plans, city approval, etc, we didn't start until after President's Day.
Working with Gary and his team was great. Though we did our best to stay out of the house during the day, we slept there at night and showered daily. They made sure that we were never without a shower or toilet, which was VERY important to us and we very much appreciate it. We also greatly appreciate their flexibility and understanding with our pets and even moved our two cats one day when I locked them in a room that needed work done on it. We also have a second unit on our property (and a grouchy tenant) and the team did a great job with making sure she was affected as little as possible by the construction. The project stayed on budget other than maybe $1,000 or so on unexpected plumbing (drain pipes mostly) issues and a few things required by the city for inspection purposes (fancy smoke detectors, super huge support beam, etc).
Though we're happy the work is finished, it was bittersweet saying goodbye to Gary. He was great to work with and we so appreciate the transformation he gave our home so that it is now functional (and pretty!) for our little family.

We've had some rain delays (it never rains in Southern California) but it looks like we are still on schedule and on-budget with the exception of a re-engineering fee that had to be done before construction could begin due to the misrepresentation of a different contractor who drew up the plans.

We met this other contractor at a home show in March and commissioned them to do the plans which we signed off on at the end of May. We checked this company out...even checked their credit rating but we feel that they took us for a ride.
As of September and after many requests, they had not given us the original plans. They blamed everything on their architect (who it turned out was not really an architect but is a designer.) They finally delivered what they represented to be the original plans and we paid them in full -- which I must say wasn't inexpensive.

We gave what we believed to be the original plans to Action Home Remodeling but in reality it was an unstamped copy that did not include the city's notes. Gary walked the plans thru the city, got them stamped and incorporated the notes, and had the engineering completed.

There were also a few inconsistencies in the plans which Gary corrected for us.

In hindsight we would have hired an architect who did not have any interest in building the project

Action Home was one of three bids I received. From the initial consultation to the final clean-up, this company distinguished itself on the basis of high integrity, top quality workmanship, responsiveness, reliability and creative problem-solving. Gary, the owner, listened to my concerns, answered my questions, and suggested alternatives. Prior to hiring this company, I spoke with three prior customers who reported the same high level of satisfaction as I experienced. I am pleased with the workmanship, the price and the process and am glad to be able to give this company a great recommendation.

The job went very well overall. They arrived on schedule every day and caused a minimum of disruption in our home. I made arrangements for Gary to have independent access and he always secured everything before leaving the site. The job started a week after the proposal was accepted and it was actually completed before the estimated time. I am planning more work and will make sure to get an estimate from Action Remodeling when the time comes.

They were amazing. The owner, Nathan, explained everything to us. He came everyday to make sure everything was good. He shared his time with us. The experience was excellent and we have told all our friends. All of the aspects were very good. They cleaned up afterwards. The price was good. What they charged was exactly what we guessed it would be.

From the outset, I felt very comfortable dealing with Gary. We had interviewed several contractors who were referred by friends as well as other Angie's List members, and were most impressed with Gary's demeanor and professionalism. He doesn't upsell and will offer ideas to aid your budget. I contacted a couple of his references, and they spoke favorably of his workmanship. He's down to earth, highly skilled, and performs the work that you seek. Our project took about 3 months as we modified certain plans throughout. The greatest challenge in the project was converting a small bedroom and walled off room into a master bedroom. Since the demolition included a load-bearing wall, we required the services of a structural engineer who helped procure a city permit. During the waiting time, Gary scheduled work on other areas to avoid delays. The master bedroom was upgraded exactly as planned, and the walk-in closet was extended along with removing an adjacent closet to open up the room. We are thrilled with the outcome. All 3 bathrooms were upgraded, and we overcame the prior owner's decor, which was a cross between Mardi Gras and a Japanese sauna. The master bathroom was completely renovated, and at a very reasonable cost. It looks incredible, with a jacuzzi tub surrounded by tile and a step in one corner, and a shower with frameless glass doors on the opposite side, where a closet formerly resided within the bathroom. He added a toilet as well, and walled off the adjoining powder room, which also has a toliet. The shower looks exactly as envisioned. The room required new plumbing, concrete, electrical work, etc., and it was something else to witness the metamorphosis. The 2 other bathrooms were renovated with equal precision, and also match our desires. We changed some of the flooring, and Gary's crew installed it precisely after removing the previous materials. They laid the 20" x 20" porcelain tiles in brick style, and installed the engineered hardwood flooring professionally. Also, they did a fastidious job installing the crown moulding in the living room with a high vaulted ceiling. The angled areas are smooth and flow seamlessly. They also installed moulding on the walls in the kids' room, about 3 feet high throughout the room. Again, masterful. He took a frightful garage and removed the old water heater and dangling wires, and installed a tankless heater outside, saving space while removing an eyesore Atop that, he located the exact tankless model for us at a lower cost than anywhere we searched online. The drywalling looks continuous, after demo was performed on walls out of the 70's. Even though it's just the garage, the workmanship is professional. New interior doors including the fire door and handles were installed, and they freshen up the house. Another interior door was removed and a archway was created, opening up the family room. All the electrical work was re-done, and very professionally. Our overall experience was better than anticipated, especially after hearing the sagas endured by friends. A few areas that set Gary apart aside from his excellent work are: Punctuality/professionalism Reasonable pricing on all changes throughout Integrity Willingness to pick up materials when needed Attitude - never sensed that we were infringing upon him Even on the work performed by others (cabinetry, painting, windows, countertops) he never was territorial, and helped smooth over minor issues created by others. When we need anything else done, no doubt he'll be first in line. While everyone's different, we were very pleased that we went with Gary.

Gary was amazing from start to finish. He quickly provided an estimate that was detailed and significantly less expensive than some of the other companies I was looking at. He was responsive to our time demands and he showed up every day ready to work. We have an old home and want to retain its original charm. Gary understood the look and feel we were going for and had some good suggestions on how to improve our original design. Gary does the work himself with a small crew and he is very detail oriented. Every tile cut was perfect. The door he relocated looks like it was always there and the old location shows no sign of ever being there. His work is very high quality and he keeps the job site clean. During the project, we changed our minds several times about the flooring. Gary was flexible and responsive to our changes and was very reasonable in pricing the change order that resulted. After the project, I noticed that there was a small leak in the faucet. Gary came out that day -- a Friday night no less -- to fix it. I will absolutely use him again and would recommend him to anyone.

Gary always took our calls when we called. When he couldn't he returned our call quickly and came when he said he would. When working his crew covered the floors with cloths and protected the floors and walls as he was worked. He cleaned up as he went. He was very reasonable with his prices. He's a very pleasant and courteous person. We often added additional details to the job such as a back splash in the kitchen, replacing the sink and faucet. He did so without complaint. All in all we are very happy with the service Gary provided.
