The project involved correcting a previous contractor''s botched attempt to curve and install Trex handrails and panels on our front porch. After removing the old mess, Richard gave us a perfectly curved railing that truly compliments the staircase steps and porch entry. Richard and his crew are consumate professionls; craftmen who take great pride in their work. We highly recommend Add-a-Deck of Texas and will not hesitate to use them again.
Sanford and Carole Richardson
Richard Weil, owner of Add-A-Deck, was a pleasure to do business with. His workers are polite and efficient. Our project turned out beautiful. Richard is very meticulous about getting every detail just right. We are very pleased.

Arrived promptly as I was told. Old patio materials hauled away all using wheelbarrows because back yard could not be accessed by truck.. Always had multiple persons on hand each day. Worked progressed in a timely manner. New patio was poured quickly, hauling new pour via wheelbarrow. Care was taken to avoid a portion of the yard containing native wildflowers which were still in bloom.
The only came one time to build the deck. They resurface the extended patio; resurface the deck, built a platform and a new privacy fence around the platform. They were fantastic. The expected date to take a month, they got it done in three weeks. They came in on budget. Everything was great.

Richard and his team at Add-a-Deck did a simply outstanding job on my deck and pizza oven. It was a fairly large job with lots of concrete, special decking around a tree, custom electrical work and a wood-fired oven. Richard coordinated all the facets of building, including getting the pizza oven kit from the manufacturer. Every step was carefully designed and sketched so we knew precisely how things would look and there they would go. The end result was better than I could have imagined.
While the main oven came from a kit (Forno Bravo), the masonry to contain it was completely custom built by Richard's team. We discussed some general ideas for shape, and they incorporated my desire for built-in lighting on either side of the structure. The level of detail and beautiful touches they added (which I never would have thought of) created not only a fantastic oven, but a work of art. The rounded moldings on the ledge and wood storage area, as well as the detailing on the chimney are gorgeous.
Not that everything was smooth sailing. There were some dings on the tile on the floor inside the oven and they happened at the last minute, after everything was built. I was not happy, but Richard took a look and stood 100% behind making it right. He didn't hesitate for a second and immediately placed an order to the company for replacement tiles. There was a similar incident with one piece of stone on the patio and again he didn't hesitate to have someone come by and fix it up. Things can happen on any job. What's important is that they stand behind the work and immediately set to making things right. The result is an amazing outdoor living space that I enjoy very much. Highly recommended!

The project went well from beginning to end. The only negative was that it took about twice as long to complete as initially projected (12 weeks instead of 6 weeks) due to the erratic work schedule. I think that Richard was going through a transition with some of his employees and subcontractors during this time which led to the delays. He was always responsive to our calls and worked to keep us informed of the project status. The focus was always on doing quality work, and we were happier with that than we would have been with a 6 week completion and poor quality work. I would highly recommend Richard Weil and Add-a-Deck for any outdoor living project.

They were tremendous, fantastic. It's hard to find people that good anymore. They were very reliable, very efficient, and resourceful. They were so polite and their price was fair. I would use them again.

Richard (Add-A-Deck owner) was very thorough in laying out the process that would be involved in replacing the old and crumbling deck on our newly purchased home. He explained the construction process, pros and cons of various materials (types of woods, composites, beams, etc.) and how the cost broke down with every component. Add-A-Deck (ADA) was one of two bidders for this work- the other company was an outdoor space design/general contracting company. What sold us on Richard was his detailed knowledge on every tactical aspect of the project. The tearing down of the old deck began on schedule. However, the replacement work began a week later than we'd expected. Once, the work began though, it had a pretty good rhythm. His guys are very polite, they all speak perfect English (which helped since I could converse with them on what was going on), and are very non-intrusive. Daily, they began on time, took very few breaks and cleaned up well after they were done. We had a bit of a wait for the new railings to come in. This wasn't so much ADA's doing; apparently, the railings take that long to get done - wish we'd known earlier (we did choose to change the design mid-way). Once the deck was complete, I found a some minor things that needed to be corrected (plank that needed to be tamped down more, the deck needed to be sanded and cleaned throughly), but ADA was very responsive in getting those taken care of. About 5 months after the work was done, I noticed some minor rust on holes in the railing (holes were drilled to let the steel cables through). So I called Richard, explained the issue and asked him to swing by and fix it. It was done within the week - very responsive. All in all, a great experience and I would use them again for any relevant work as well as recommend them without any hesitation. They not only do great work, but their follow-up after the work is done is excellent (they won't disappear like some other contractors after the work is done and they've been paid). The only suggestion I'd have for you if you're considering using ADA is to be quite detailed in laying out exactly what you want from a design standpoint (i.e. you'll need to do the research for options), since while Richard is good at laying out design options, most of them are conventional (his portfolio continues to expand though). His strength lies in precise execution - it is detailed and honestly, as good as it gets.

What made Richard first stand out among other deck builders were his relationship with his past customers and his patience. To help us to make our decision on what material to use, Richard took me to 3 sites where he had installed a Leuders limestone deck, a cedar deck, and a Ipe/Garape deck. All of his past clients were happy to see him, and all three discussed plans for future projects with him. At no time did he pressure us to make a decision. He provided us with lots of information, and then he let us make our choice.

For our deck Richard proposed several design changes that made quite a difference. Richard saw beyond what we had to what we could have. He provided us with several 3-D designs along the way that helped us to visualize the final design.

Richard and his crew did beautiful work that impressed my husband and father-in-law. My husband wrote: "RIchard did a top quality job building the deck. He focused on details big and small like the footings, railings, spacing between boards, filing edges, and structural soundness. Richard and his crew were the right choice to replace our deck." The project took longer than expected, but RIchard made sure it was completed to his satisfaction-down to the last screw! He takes great pride in his work.

Richard is doing what he loves, and he is doing it well.

Richard was great to work with. He gave great attention to detail and was there to perform the work or oversee the work being done for the entire span of the project. His crew was very polite and hardworking. He also was very accomodating to fit our budget. The proposal he gave us, which included a computer rendering of our backyard, matched what was eventually built. I would definitely recommend the company and Richard for his hardwork and craftmanship.

I don’t remember exactly how much we spent but I know that they were very reasonable. The young man who owns it and does the work himself is just very talented. He has a great eye for detail. We will use their services again in the future.

This was one of the best experiences I've ever had! Richard is a master, he builds to last and builds to perfection. He's very creative. When he came over in early June, we discussed some ideas and he gently suggested a few of his own that turned out to be MASTERFUL beyond belief. He turned a two - level deck into one, pulled it in by one foot (one foot not as deep) and the new deck looks 2 times as big as the old one. I wanted composite and he directed me to the right colors to choose from, giving me pictures / photos and opportunities to visit in person his other/prior jobs using these colors. That helped tremendously.

In any event, after our initial meeting, he sent me a bid with a computer-drawing of what it would look like. The bid also included a line by line itemization of the parts, so i could see what i might fiddle with to adjust the cost. He also provided a page of references with phone numbers. Then, when I said the price was in the ballpark for me, he agreed to meet me at the supplier so i could look at railings/composite/wood for the beams/stains, etc. in person. He revised the bid a few times as new creative ideas came up. He's an incredibly patient guy. Very understated to be honest. And, now that i've known him for several weeks now, just an incredibly nice guy.

In any event, we settled on all of the choices and i signed the contract which had the payment terms referred to in the previous post. Richard then worked through the City of Austin to get the permit (NO SMALL FEAT) and off we went.

He and his team, Russell and Austin and Steve, worked tirelessly in 100+ heat for 5 weeks to build the deck. Richard would have to leave to go do other bids now and then. Every day at the end of the day, they cleaned up and put away all of their materials. Russell, Austin & Steve are all the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet.

The desire for building it right is beyond belief! They do it like you would do it if you were doing it for yourself (if you could, of course, ha ha). Just incredible attention to detail and getting it right. You cannot imagine how comfortable (after a couple of days when i started to see the pattern) I felt on this big project.

And as the project emerged, I realized how beautiful the deck was. I will attach pictures (if I can here on Angie's list, not sure I can) but they do not do it justice. Just love my new deck.

I strongly encourage you to contact Richard if you are in the market for a deck. I'm going to have him do some more fencing/metal gates around the property, and a little stonework in the backyard now that the new deck is done. He's amazing. Thanks Richard!!

We're very blessed to have an amazing backyard. It came with a good pool but an old, poorly designed deck. We met with Richard and explained that we wanted a larger deck that took advantage of some unique features in our yard. With minimum input on our part, he presented a design that we absolutely loved: from the combination wood/metal railing suggestion, the level changes, the overall layout to installing the boards on the diagonal instead of straight. Upon final approval of plan, construction began when promised and lasted a little longer than planned due to some changes in design on our part. Richard and Russell, the co-owner, worked consistently and notified us when they were not coming which happened on two days due to weather & other project bids. Since they do all the work themselves, we knew we would have to share them while they went to bid other prospective jobs and we were prepared for that. The guys were very professional and respectful of our property. Their knowledge & skill in carpentry seems very extensive and their attention to detail is way more than we would have hoped for. We paid up front their estimated costs for building materials, another payment upon completion of framing, the final payment upon completion of original plans then a 4th small payment for the additional railing we added in the middle of the job. We are more than pleased with the results and look forward to many happy hours spent on our new "outdoor living area"!
