It took several attempts to contact this provider by phone,
voice mail or email. When I did get in touch with them (Justin) text messaging
appeared to be the only way to contact Advanced Specialty Construction
Services. I had to provide proof that I had purchased the ?Big Deal? because
they had no record of it.

I purchased the Big Deal shown below from Angie's List in response to direct
email marketing from Angie's List.

$199 for $400 Worth of Tree Service!
Advanced Specialty Construction Services

Angie's List charged my credit card on file before I ever talked to or got a
quote from Advanced Specialty Construction Services. When I did finally get
Advanced Specialty Construction Services to come and look at the job, the guy
just wrote a number on a blank page in a spiral notebook and showed it to me. He
never did give me a written quote or any type of paper work. The add on price to the "$400 Worth?
of tree service that I already paid for was about the same as total price I
paid last time I had the same trees pruned without the Big Deal.

Advanced Specialty Construction Services did not spray the cuts with sealant as
most tree services do. They were also supposed to come back to finish something
but I never heard from them again. Recently I had another company trim a branch
that hits my house when it is windy. I told Advanced Specialty Construction
Services about this when they were here working but they did not take care of it. The guy from the new
company did spray sealant on the cuts made by Advanced Specialty
Construction Services. The new guy told me not to prunes these oaks again for at least
couple of years. Whoever did it last time cut way too foliage off of these
trees.

Recommendation: Don?t buy an Angie?s List Big Deal for "$xxx
for $xxx Worth of (anything)". You are paying for a discount off of a price you
have not gotten yet, even though you are already committed to the vendor.

They did an excellent job trimming, they were very professional and courteous, and they were very thorough in cleaning up after the job was completed. All in all I was extremely pleased with their work.

The estimate was very close (a little under) to the final price. We were and are very pleased with Justin, Fred and other staff they brought to the job.

The fence they installed was great. They matched the two other fences this one was joining. The painting was a struggle due to communication. They did have some areas that needed to be corrected and when I let them know I was ready for that they came in and corrected them.
The work was finished 4 weeks after the original dates set. They put in the tub and tile surround and said they fixed the leak. They did not check all of the pipes before putting in tub, so when the tub was filled and drained for the first time it leaked everywhere into the downstairs bathroom. This made a huge mess and then the entire ceiling had to be replaced. Which they charged us extra for. When they took out the ceiling they found the leak. Which we had talked about originally and they said they had fixed when new tub went in. We saved the toilet and the cabinet to the sink since it was hardwood and in good condition. I figured this would save us some money. We had a great deal of "extra" cost that was not included in the budget to begin with. It ended up costing us closer to 6000.00 dollars instead of the original 3500.00.
I was very disappointed with the overall cost and with the time frame. We were told it would take about a week. With the leak and additional repairs it was finally done about a month later. MY time is extremely valuable and part of the time issue was I couldn't be there at certain times. They really need to be more precise with their time management and budget setting. The work that was done was not up to par and it is now about 6 months later and the grout around the tub has cracked and I have to have someone else come in and redo some of the tile work as well and finish all of the edges because they were left just cut off which we have found to be dangerous. I would never recommend this company to anyone.

The tree was trimmed while we were out of town. When we returned, we found that all the branches, limbs and debris were put into our front yard and had been there for several days. In addition, the tree had hung over our courtyard and it had debris and branches in it, as well as empty drink bottles that were tossed in by the workers. A dent was put in our air conditioning unit from something large that had fallen on it. We asked the company to clean up the courtyard, which they did. We cleaned up the yard so that the grass wouldn't die and we could put the limbs, etc in bags for yard debris pick up. We have asked the company to pay for the repair to our air-conditioning unit but they have refused. So we have been stuck with a $695.00 repair to our air conditioner!
Well, initially I was excited about remodeling my home before I moved back in by 17 September. My tenants moved out on 30 June so I knew I had a good month and a half to remodel and move back to my home by 1 September and still have time to clear the rental home I was in by 17 September. With all the commercials advertising Angie's List, I figured I would enroll with Angie's List since I would be doing some extensive work on my home and wanted some reputable recommendations. I was provided a few recommendations and chose 3 (Affordable Painting who couldn't start work on my house till September, Elements of Construction who could start work immediately but focused more on patio covers so I was skeptical about the work I wanted done if they pitched patio covers more than anything, and Advanced Specialty which could start now and finish in a couple weeks and seemed to be more professional) so I could have different quotes. The different contractors obviously had different estimates and schedules. So instead of having 3 different companies and their workers at my house simultaneously, I chose Advanced Specialty Construction Services because they seemed more professional. They provided a separate quote for the walls and ceilings. I believe the quotes were high for painting a rather small home but i gave them the benefit of a doubt. From the beginning of paint job, I identified issues with the results. There were lots of black streaks on walls and ceilings. It was obvious some areas weren't even painted. The painting of walls, ceilings, and baseboards is still in progress; still need touch up work as well as the new doors. The carpet in rooms have signs of paint esp. the master bedroom which looks like it may have to be replaced; it has stains that weren't there before. The cabinets still aren't up to par either. They started on 12 July; almost a month later and I am nowhere near to being able to move some of my stuff. I stressed the fact I was having foot surgery on 14 Aug and would be on convalescent leave for 30 days. So I definitely will not be moved in by mid-August as I hoped. I stopped by this evening and there are no improvements. I have been told on several occasions that the crew will be there to work off my list, but no one shows up as promised. This provider does not start a job and complete it. He and his crew work on several jobs at the same time so no particular job is finished in a timely manner. I can honestly say I am still not satisfied with the painting of home and the cabinets. The floor tile does look very nice but caulking is still needed. The new bathtub and tile on shower wall is very nice too but caulking is still needed along baseboards. I can honestly say I am very frustrated with the way things have turned out. If I'd known the provider wasn't gonna "start to finish" I would have chosen another provider. It seems my home is not a priority. I have asked for a completion date on a few occasions but I'm still waiting on an answer. I'm also disappointed with my Angie's List experience; I assumed I would be referred to reputable providers. I am not impressed. Sometimes I text my provider and do not receive a reply; the same with my voice messages-no reply sometimes. I just wish they would finish soon so I can get help to move stuff for me while I am on convalescent leave.
I've dealt with every subcontractor who has ever been in this home from the ground breaking up to the present and they are by far the most professional and courteous contractors I've ever met. They did everything so carefully and were very conscientious. I wish everyone in the construction/home building industry could take a few lessons from this crew and business. I'm willing to spend a little bit more if it means less headache, hassle and mess to deal with and a job done right. Sadly...you really do get waht you pay for these days! I always love a good deal but a bargain just isn't a bargain when you still have work to do at the end of the day or you have to hire someone else to correct what the bargain contractor did wrong. They were not the highest bidder but they weren't the cheapest either. Somewhere in the middle is a pretty good place though! Will hire them again without a doubt!

Called and received an appointment. The day of the appointment, I got a text stating that the truck they were intending to bring was broken into and the appointment had to be rescheduled.
I got a new appointment a couple of days later. The crew arrived a couple of hours late.
They were extremely thorough and did everything that I had requested. They did trim and shaped around 16 trees. The trees do not look cluttered as it was and also no branches going towards my house.
Overall they did an excellent job and thanks for the coupon as I saved some money in it.
They did a good job. They were good at what they did. They did the job at a reasonable amount of time. They crawled up into my attic and installed a fan. They did good.

If you are needing work done to your home, stop now and call Advanced Specialty. The most courteous, respectful, and clean group of guys I have met. When I called Justin, the manager, he came out that night after I was off work. After looking at the damage he told me what they would do and how they would do it, and to expect a more detailed quote in about 3 days.
They did an excellent job and cleaned everyday. It was nice coming home and having work done and nothing to worry about. The days I was able to meet the crew at my house I was put at ease at the detail they put into the work and the timeliness they completed the job in.
During the job they found other things that needed repaired and did those for me. Justin was a pleasure to work with and I had no problem giving them a key to my home while I went to work. I will be having more work done by this amazing company. The customer is held to the highest regard, and the work to the highest standard.

The salesman showed up at our house the day after I purchased the special on Angie's list "$199 for $400 worth of tree service" . He said he tried to call however the phone # I had on Angie's list was wrong (I have since corrected). He said it would be an additional $200 to remove the tree since it was leaning on our house & would require "extra care in removing it without damaging our house". I agreed & he said the crew would be out on the following Monday March 11th. On Tuesday we called because no one showed. They apologized & said someone could be out on the 14th, we told them that would not work that it would have to be the following week. The crew showed up in a unmarked panel van on March 20th. They used a rope & pulley to climb up the tree that was leaning on our house. They didn't have a ladder or other means of getting up to the top of the tree. I told them they way they were doing it made me nervous, the guy pulling himself up the tree said "I've never broken a window" I almost told them to leave instead I went inside until they were finished. When I paid the additional $200 the guy did not have an invoice or receipt to give me for the work they completed.
I did not inspect the pile of limbs they left on the curb to make sure it would be pickup by the city. When I did look It was just loose not bundled like the city requires. Our neighbor helped us bundle the limbs so the city would pick it up.
Buyer be ware! What seems like a good deal might not be, get everything in writing!!!
There was a tree on our neighbor's property that leaned into our yard and dropped branches and debris on our yard, courtyard and roof. I paid for the Big Deal to have the tree trimmed. Justin Hernandez is the manager and chief estimator and he came out and met with my neighbor and my husband and myself. They wound up charging $1800 to my neighbor to trim one tree, which DID NOT include hauling away all the limbs, leaves, branches and sticks. The trimming work all happened while we were out of town. When we returned, all the tree trimmings were in our front yard in a huge pile! In addition, our courtyard was also full of tree limbs, branches and leaves, as well as empty plastic drink bottles. AND a limb had hit our air conditioner and damaged it!
Our neighbor felt terrible and asked the city to come out and collect the tree trimmings. My husband and I had to cut them up with a chain saw, stack them and tie them in bundles to be collected by the city. This took 2 days for us to do. Justin sent a man named Jody to clean out our courtyard after I told him I was not happy with the mess that was left. Jody said that Justin had seen the damage to our air conditioner and taken down a model number to have it fixed. We are still waiting for the repair to be done.

It was a bad job and went very bad. We were upset with the secondary and non-profession job. Other crews were hired to give us satisfaction. I give Advanced Specialties a F.
We got several bids for the job. Chavez was the lowest by about 20%. I checked Angie's list to see if his work was of good quality, given the very attractive price he quoted and saw only positivie reviews of his work. He started the job on time and finished early and did every detail to perfection. I was really impressed. He used GAF Timberline shingles, which are the #1 selling shingle in the U.S. They also did a perfect job on cleanup which is not a small matter when old roofing materials need to be carefully collected and removed, including nails. I have had several occasions to be on my roof in the past year and have yet to see a poorly installed shingle or edging. I will certainly be a repeat customer if I need roofing service in the future and can strongly recommend Manual Chavez Roofing.
Jody, the gentleman who actually performed the work, may have been the hardest working man I have ever met. For two days, he climbed and trimmed from sunrise to sunset. They even hauled away the mess and the yard looks fantastic! We could not be more satisfied with the work and we would definitely recommend them to others.
It went great, the job is a 3 process job, and I was originally told it would take 3 visits, but they were able to finish in 2 visits. Justin and Mike were great, very professional, and as fast as the process would allow. The wall looks great, like there was never a hole. I would definitely use their services again and recommend them to friends or family.
