My home was built in 1973, as was a sunroom off the back of the house. It was pretty great back in the day I'm sure, made of cinder block, glass louvers and lots of aluminum. It had no thermal insulation, so it was too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. Worse yet, it was lower than the hardscape in the backyard, so rain was a major problem. It was an eyesore and it's been a big thorn in my side for YEARS. I'd had other contractors and sunroom companies come out to have a look, but none of them seemed to listen to me or understand what I wanted. Years pass, the situation gets worse and I'm starting to have nightmares when it rains.
Enter Al Benson and Steve Kinsman of Aero Patio. They spent several hours in my home at the beginning, explaining AND LISTENING. With them it was straightforward. They had a great product at a fair price (not the cheapest as they will tell you themselves, but TRUST ME, you don't want the cheapest if you're looking for a good sunroom you can actually live in). Everything they said made sense and there was no hard-sell AT ALL. They were just a joy to work with right from the beginning. I took some time to think it over and my husband and I hired them to do our project.
From that moment on is when the homeowner usually begins to worry. Will the people you hired live up to your expectations? Will they DO what they said they would when you were in the "courtship" phase? Will you be left hanging with all those "unexpected extra expenses they could not have known about when you signed the contract?" Well, let me tell you, Al and Steve delivered EVERYTHING they promised and MORE.
From the first steps of demolition, Al and Steve were there, introducing me to the crew who would be responsible for that phase of the work (see my review of D.E. Contreras - an outstanding contractor). Demolition went really well - fast, clean and as easy as demolition can be. Next, the concrete was poured and flagstone was cut out (and later re-installed). This phase (and some additional work I had done) is reviewed separately under D.E. Contreras.
Next, the room went up. Al and Steve introduced us to Justin and Jacob who were absolutely fantastic. As luck would have it, the weather was not good on our first building day, but everyone (the weather forecasters included) said it would pass, so the two of them started in with the perimeter footing. And then the clouds came in over us and it started to pour. Now we have a situation - the perimeter (into which the walls will fit) is in and it is attached to a perfectly level concrete pad, so now it's filling with water like a boat. The water level is rising and it was a mess to be out there. Jacob and Justin are on their knees with pails and push brooms, bailing out the water so it doesn't get close to the level of the foundation of the house. They worked in the pouring rain, bailing and putting in the walls so they could get the roof up. Which they did. It was incredible.
The next day, they finished the windows, the sliding door, the electrical and everything else. The room was starting to look amazing already!
Next, Steve and Al introduced us to the drywall crew who came in the following week and did an absolutely amazing job, turning what were once exterior walls (which had gone through several transformations over the years) into perfectly straight interior walls which match the color and finish of the 2 new walls. This was no easy task - the walls had been covered at various times int he past with stucco, wood and shingles. I honestly cannot believe how GORGEOUS these new walls are.
Last step - flooring. Conrad at Sid's Carpet Barn was WONDERFUL. Al and Steve actually brought over samples for us to see, but we ended up going to the Carpet Barn ourselves to look at everything - though we ended up selecting one of Steve and Al's suggestions (they are GOOD!!) The following week, Ernie and Jose came out and installed a beautiful floor. As with every other crew involved, Ernie and Jose were organized, clean and wonderful to work with - and the result is outstanding. And now the transformation is complete.
Throughout the entire process (which took about 6 weeks, just as promised), Al and Steve were incredible and always "hands-on." They personally introduced us to every person who worked on our room and that made a huge impression on us. As people, Steve and Al are always available and always eager to help make things not only right, but better. I simply cannot recommend them highly enough. I have never had such a positive experience with any service provider, period.
We will be using the sunroom as my office, so I will spend a LOT of time out there - and I will never forget Steve and Al and how they turned my flooding-nightmare sunroom into the best room of our home. THANK YOU AL AND STEVE FOR EVERYTHING!!! You are the BEST!!!!
