This is an update that includes my first and second reviews. This is a factual documentation of the timeline of the screen enclosure that we paid to have built. We did everything we were supposed to do to ensure that we hired a quality company. We checked with the State of Florida to make sure that his state license was valid and we confirmed with his insurance company that his insurance policy was current and valid. • 4/18/17 contract was signed to have Greg Oates of Affordable Screening & Aluminum Repair build a 13’ x 20’ screened enclosure that would connect to our existing covered patio. • 4/18/17 deposit paid to Greg Oates at Affordable Screening & Aluminum Repair • 5/25/17 permit was approved • 6/9/17 second payment was made to Greg at Affordable Screening & Aluminum Repair. This was half of the remaining balance • 6/19/17 Concrete was poured by a sub-contractor. Within 2 days the concrete slab had cracked full thickness and side to side with various spider cracks radiating out. We also had numerous discolored spots in the concrete. Greg Oates was contacted and he suggested various options that would be a temporary solution to the problem • 11/7/17 Concrete slab removed by sub-contractor after we contacted him and informed him of the issue • 11/9/17 new slab was poured by the concrete subcontractor • We continued to contact Greg Oates via text, email and phone messages to ask when he would be starting on the enclosure. When he did respond it was with excuses or false promises. • 12/18/17 We went to the Brevard County Court system and filed a claim in small claims courts for the unfinished work • 1/24/18 We went to small claims court and met with the judge, she encouraged us to try mediation first, which we did. The medication agreement included specific dates that items had to be completed by. We included when Greg would start and when he would have all of the work completed, and Greg agreed to the timeline. Greg Oates failed to meet the first deadline and other dates along the way. The medication agreement also stipulated that any changes to the timeline would be mutually agreed upon. Greg continued to give us excuses as to why he wasn’t meeting deadlines, but not once did we MUTUALLY agree on new dates. • 2/13/18 Greg Oates and his crew did arrive to start working. • Greg continued to make mistakes and missed several key items on the enclosure. • 2/28/18 Greg stated he was done. We tried to contract Greg several times to discuss the items that were still not complete. • 3/23/18 While on the phone with Greg trying to reason with him about the items were not complete he stated he wasn’t going to finish/fix the work and that he would be filing a lien against us. I have a stack of paperwork and text messages to substantiate my comments above. I would be happy to show them to anyone that is interested. Bottom line I do not recommend Greg Oates or anyone associated with Affordable screening and Aluminum Repairs.
Response from Affordable Screening & Aluminum Repairs Inc
"We'll keep this as short as possible. Because their is a very simple Response to all the un true statements provided. 1) I was hired to do a new concrete slab, and a screen room on the slab. 2) we were forced to pour the slab during a period of poring rain every afternoon. We did the slab, and it had some discolouration due to us trying to make it dry in time for the afternoon storms. My concrete subcontractor met me on the jobsite. He had said it was because we rushed to pour it. In which the homeowner denied rushing us. . He asked the homeowners if we paint it with acrylic spray decking and paint it , which is usually 600.00$. For no charge, would they be happy? Including their existing porch, and the new porch so they matched. Homeowners didn't want this. So we offered to pour a whole new slab and remove all old concrete. This was done. So I we honoured our warranty. Next was doing the screen room , which we couldn't go to the job to work unless they were home. " I don't want to shoot you" Was her comment. After they changed the door location 10x. We got it right and passes inspection. We collected about half our contracted agreement, after all the extras I gave them for n/c. I've done 6500 jobs and I can't remember a customer as bad as these. People should want to burn the world down just cause they're sick and have medical problems. I ALWAYS responded politely to this customer, but she always ripped into me like I've never heard before. Bottom line is; We got the job done, they signed off as well as myself, and it's a beautiful job done there. 2 concrete slabs, with no access marks in the yard, during rainy season. Than did a beautiful job for them. With a warranty. To say these lies is beyond me. I put my heart and soul into my customers. I did here as well. Some people just can't be pleased. Thank u. Greg."

The company was timely in providing an estimate and the their proposed timeline 6-8 weeks was better than the other contractors. Their estimate was also the lowest cost. I checked their licenses which were all satisfactory. I also checked the online reviews which were above average. Based on this information I agreed to the proposal and paid the initial deposit. The original contract was signed on 4/25/17. Within a week or two of signing the contract some initial work was done to remove the existing screening and then starting to prepare the ground for the new concrete slabs. The crew dug the ground out and then built the wood forms for the concrete. At this point the work stopped for several weeks if not a few months. I made numerous calls to the owner and he continually promised that work would commence soon and that the delay was due to problems with the concrete subcontractor. While we were waiting for the work to be done, our backyard had large dirt piles and sharp, jagged metal stakes for the frame. Eventually, I found my own concrete company and had the slabs poured. (The cost of the concrete pour was deducted from the price of the job.) After the concrete work was completed, some work was done on the screen enclosure but there was always lots of delays and lots of promises that were rarely kept. The work that was done seemed to be of high quality so we continued to try to get the job done. Communication with owner was poor at best and he rarely kept his word regarding schedule. He continually complained that he couldn't find good workers which I did not feel was appropriate nor my problem. After continued requests and urging, the work was finally completed around 12/10/17. The finished product passed the code inspection and does seem to be built very well. We are happy with the results but the process was very painful at best. If you are willing to put up with a lot of hassles and delays to get the lowest price, this may be the contractor for you.

"I am having a hard time with this review. The job was delayed for some reasons beyond my control and some that was my fault. I got the job done RIGHT! Passed inspection, and your husband was pleased! Roots were everywhere while diving the footer and yes it took to longer than expected. I'm usually done ahead of schedule. I am sorry you feel this way. If any way I can help u change your feelings, please let me know. I want ALL MY CUSTOMERS HAPPY. THANK YOU."

Some things ok some terrible, workers showed up with girlfriend on drugs, she was doing some of the work until I called the owner and told him to get her out, extreme lack of communication with Greg, promises to be here, no show many times, had problem with bees in screen area ,paid 700 to try to get them removed, did hold up work till gone which was not my fault or his, however it was used as an excuse to not show up and held things up more. Was told he renewed the permit but was never renewed and hence did a few things without a permit which was denied by Greg. I went to the building and permitting dept. and found out the original permit from 6/2015 expired in 04/2016 and never renewed so work was done here with no permit which he will strongly deny. Just call building dept! Some things were not done according to the engineering which I had to have him do over. Had the plans and still have them which showed in detail what had to be done. Finally after numerous calls I told him to forget it and I went to the building dept, applied for my own building permit, got it issued easily as his permit had expired in April of 2015,and arranged for someone to finish s h up the gutter work etc,got a final inspection and can now get it insured after 2 years!!Nightmare.Greg is a nice person and am sure tries but to me he was very uncooperative on a lot of issues and told me in the end that he will not warranty the work he did here if I hire someone else I did but to only finish up what he did not! Also warranty is only for 3 years and guess what, 2 years are already gone!Maybe Merritt Isand is too far for him?? As the old saying goes "Let the buyer beware!"

This is an awesome, professional team. We signed the contract the first of January and said we needed the work done before February 1st. Well, the work is done and it's awesome!!! All screens are tight and so clear that when you look through them it looks like there's no screen there. The men who installed were so polite and professional. It's obvious they take great pride in their work. It was "yes sir" "no sir". It took two days. They totally cleaned up the first evening even though we told them they didn't have to. They said they wanted to so that the dirt wouldn't get damp. The service was prompt, professionally done and excellent quality. We've used several screening companies in the past but now we have found our go to guy. I'm telling all my neighbors about this company. Can't go wrong hiring them. Thanks Greg!!!!

This individual has stolen my money. I have 2 homes that I am working on. I have paid him 1/2 for 2 jobs right at 8100. One screen was quoted 7500 another at 8500. I paid cashier check for half of both for materials and permits. He continues to make excuses and reasons why he has not started or cannot get to my job. He continues to tell me that it is my fault that he is not doing the job yet. I was waiting on pavers to been installed so that the enclosure was on top of the pavers the proper way, it held me back 3 months. I have been ready since May. Every Friday he says looks like I'm not going to be there till next week. He's very aggressive individual and he has been very condescending and treats me like he can do whatever he wants whenever he wants. This has been going on for more about a year. All I want is to get my money back so that I can get the job done with a professional. Please do not hire this con artist.
Response from Affordable Screening & Aluminum Repairs Inc
"I was called a thief and a con artist in a recent post by this member. I have proof that these allegations are false, and I am far from an “aggressive” person. Including the communication thread in which the member gave me a “deadline”, which hasn't been met yet. I was hired for much more than installing 2 far above [Member Information Removed] screen enclosure’s, for a very good price. Including; all of the above. The delays that occurred were because of the member not being licensed, and a stop work order being issued, which took months to resolve, with my help. Also, I wasn't provided the survey for the property, as per the agreement. I waited months for this also. I was then told the project was ready for me, as the pavers for the pool deck were getting installed. I ordered and paid for materials as well as the 700$ customs door and hardware plus front entry materials. Than the pavers were delayed for weeks. I tried to use, or return some of the material, but ended up trying to use some for the front, in which the owner said no.? Than almost 2 months passed again, and I received a call from the member, again saying the project was ready. I replied that I will be on it after I'm done with the current projects. I bought materials again, and cleared 2 weeks off my schedule. I answered and responded to every call or text from the member, giving updates as we went. Explaining; I need this done ASAP because of the permit expiration period, as well as collecting the payments for all I’ve provided. But the Member became Irate, and sent nasty text after text, threatening and throwing a tantrum, blaming all on me? I would have never accepted any money that was offered up front, aside from normal circumstances. But, due to the extensive, extra scope of work and the member wanting pricing before the coming material increases, as well as the $1,000.00 [Member Information Removed] door and front entry screen added after contract; supervising, guidance, my knowledge as a contractor, among, things I wasn't aware of, like; (member having no license to build a home, delays, and dangerous circumstances), which member knew about but I did not. Stop work order, no license, no survey, paver delays, pool and fence delays, etc. etc., all caused because of not having the proper licensing that teaches us these procedures, has caused this problem. Not my 2 weeks of trying to get there, in between weather delays, and ongoing projects, etc. My point is; I am open to any fair resolves to this problem. Including “doing whatever it takes”, to put this in the past and help get the member through this trying time. The member can feel free to contact me via phone, text, email, or any other way in order to discuss how to proceed. I have 5-6,000 satisfied [Member Information Removed], and please forgive me if I am not experienced in these types of responses I have worked very hard for my reviews, and referrals. I treat all of my [Member Information Removed] with total respect, and stick to the schedule. I truly believe this is where we have gotten off track. Please forgive me for any wrongs the member has felt from me. But I will do my absolute best to resolve this professionally, as I’ve never been through this before."

There are a lot of people offering rescreening, I chose Greg Oates because of his experience and his professionalism. Greg is busy with many job sites but always responded to my calls, he made notes of the work to be done and followed up with me when his crew discovered something unseen. He worked on my house as if it was his own and pointed out issues with the existing gutters and screen doors, and added bracing to the existing structure. Greg has a crew that performs most of the work, but he supervised the job site and came in to do the finishing, inspection, and ensure a quality job. When he pointed out the deficiencies in one of the screen doors, he worked with me to develop a plan to replace the door, frame, and screening. Greg came back to the house and completed the replacement. When his crew pointed out some weak spots in the gutter attachment on the house, they volunteered to attach them correctly. This was not pushy salesmanship, but genuine attention to construction quality ? exactly what I expected of the work. Affordable screening was neither the most expensive, nor the least expensive bid, but Greg and his crew have great customer service and professional experience that provide value I can count on.

Greg is the owner of Affordable Screening and Repair. Greg Oates and his crew did an outstanding job on our very large pool cage. Not only did he rescreen the entire area, he also put in all new hardware on our doors and cleaned out the gutters and resealed all the gutter seems. They put in extra heavy screening on the bottom per our request and another type near our sitting area to shield the area from rain and sun. The pool area looks band new now! We are so very pleased with the quality of the work and the pleasant nature of Greg and his crew. We will be keeping Affordable Screening as our go-to company for our pool cage/screen area.

Very well. The damage to the roof was more than anticipated. Once this was discovered, Greg stopped the work in progress and reported the state of affairs to us. Greg adjusted his schedule while we got a roofing repair estimate. The wait time I got for roofing support was on the order of weeks, not days. This is long to be waiting with an exposed roof during the summer in Florida. Greg set us up with a roofer who could do the repair in days after discovering my finding. The repair has been tested now by almost a month of Florida rains and appears to be good, I would definitely use Affordable Screening and Aluminum Repairs, Inc. again.
