On one of the hottest days of the year, our A/C system decided to quit. Because my wife has asthma being without A/C can be a problem. Some time earlier, an electrician recommended AireServ should be ever need heating or A/C work. Mark Huepenbecker, owner of the AireServ franchise in Harrisburg, took our emergency call and agreed to come by when he finished his scheduled appointments that day - a Friday. He got here about 7pm or so, spent a hour or two working on our system to get it up and running. We agreed to talk on Monday to see if the repair held over the weekend. It did!. I told Mark that I still wanted to consider replacing the 14 year old system which surely was inefficient compared to what was available today.
Several weeks later, Mark spent a few hours at our home explaining replacement options and answering our numerous questions. He was very patient and at the end of the visit we selected a system which included an electronic air cleaner and, for winter months, a humidifier. Installation was to begin on July 2nd.
Mark and two interns arrived on schedule and ready to go. Unfortunately, when they opened the box containing the main indoor unit, it had cosmetic damage. Mark and I agreed that, although the unit might function flawlessly, since I was paying full price, I should get a first- line product. He immediately contacted his supplier to order a replacement unit, scheduled his crew to pick it up the next day and began work on removing the existing system.
Because he was delayed on our job by the damaged unit, those scheduled immediately thereafter could either have 1) been delayed causing yet another project to be behind or 2) Mark and his team could work some very long hours on more than one job at a time. He choose the latter. Through what obviously was some very careful planning, when he was physically at the other job, his interns were working here in constant touch with him. The reverse was, of course, true. I never once felt that our project suffered because he was juggling two jobs. In fact, although we agreed on a July 31st completion date, we were done on the 29th.
One final comment about the job. Mark discovered that the old vent system which delivers the hot/cool air to the rooms had been modified several times over the years. Because of this, a substantial portion of, in this case, the cool air was being lost before it even reached the inside of the house. He consulted with some colleagues and designed a modification to the venting system which required some unplanned work. I was fully informed as that work progressed. Between the new system and the modified vent system we are keeping the temperature set at between 5 and 8 degrees lower than before yet we are receiving, what we think, is more cooling. On several occasions, my wife has said "it's down right cold in here!". Thanks, Mark !!
If you are considering a replacement heating/air conditioning system or need repairs to an existing system, I urge you to contact AireServ Heating and A/C of Harrisburg and speak with Mark. In his field, I am quite confident that you would have to go a very long way to find a better company, better employees or a better chief technician.
