DELAYS, THEFT FROM HOMEOWNERS, UNDER QUALIFIED!!

This company was on it from the get-go but went downhill fast. It was winter and they were eager for work. We had an insurance claim to repair a broken floor joist that was causing our weight bearing wall to sag. The work began January 2014.

The initial foundation repair went ok. The contractors were NOT timely. They did the underneath work fairly rapidly but were not qualified to do all the work that was part of the job. First, our heat kept going out because they kept turning the furnace down/off and wouldn't make sure it was working when they left at the end of the day. They had taken the intake piping for the furnace off to build the new wall. The only air for the furnace to draw from was the exhaust, creating a potential CARBON MONOXIDE poisoning issue.

Second, our water heater went out a couple of times. Why? Two reasons, the air from the furnace circulating in the crawl space blew out the pilot light. Second, they had unplugged the sump pump and the entire crawlspace filled with water from ground seepage.

Third, when they finally came up into the house to do the interior work, it was obvious that they were not qualified to frame and build a wall. The employee running the job told me that a bid for interior sheet rock and wall work was too expensive and his boss wouldn't allow for that. The owner, Scott, told us that was not true after seeing the horrible wall they built. It was so bad it had to be redone multiple times. It was so out of square that the trim they cut looked like a wedge of cheese!

They were inside the house 3 weeks, before I kicked them out, to build out a wall, replace a French door, sheetrock and paint. The crew was not experienced in hanging doors and almost broke the new door. It disrupted our whole schedule for much longer than was necessary or reasonable.

Perhaps the worst offense is that one of the crew stole from us! He took our Iphone 4, which our son used as an Ipod. He waited 2 months before he hooked it up but we were able to track it. The best thing Scott did for us was to get it back from him, however, he wasn't fired and is still being sent on jobs.

The repair was engineered. The bank held the money in escrow and released the funds upon completion inspection by their agent. This company has been paid in full, the engineer says all work is NOT complete and some corrections need to be made. In the almost a year since completion, we have had several appointments for the repair to be finished which have never come about. Our house is not complete and now they are not answering the phone or returning any calls. If we want our engineering report to be finalized and signed off on, it looks like we will have to spend more of 1)our own time and money personally finishing the repairs or 2) hire another contractor out of our own pocket to finish the repairs.

BOTTOM LINE? I would say this company is under qualified for the work they did apart from the foundation and are thieves. If you hire them, be home at all times, lock up your valuables, insist on qualified heating and interior sub contractors, and DO NOT PAY THEM IN FULL UNTIL ALL THE WORK IS COMPLETED.

Alaska Foundation overcharged us but they were willing to do the work. They have the right equipment for the job and they were pretty good at responding back. I might not use them in the future.

Folks, do not use any other foundation company. These guys are the best hands down! Courteous, professional, hardworking, you name it! Don't waste your money or piece of mind with anyone else. Get it done right the first time. I actually found them through Angie's List.

My family and I purchased a nice house recently but found out a week after moving in that the foundation had some serious issues and my first and second floors were sinking. I called AFT, talked with Scott, one of the owners, and he was out to my house within 30 minutes to a**** my situation (I was impressed from the get-go). Scott and his brother Bill were awesome! very professional and courteous as were the rest of the guys. Scott took his time and assessed my problem and gave me an estimate on the spot for repairs. Compared to my online research they were by far the best price around. Although a costly repair by nature, he gave me a great price for my repairs because he cared and understood my predicament. Most businesses seem to just care about money but not these guys. I appreciated that tremendously since we just moved here from Louisiana and spent a lot of our money in the move. I am also unemployed and money was kind of scarce to say the least.

They fixed my foundation problem without a hitch and they were on-time every day and worked so hard I got tired just watching them. They explained everything each step of the way and the guys on the crew were very trustworthy and have great personalities. Special shout-out to James, Kenyon and Gerald because you guys were awesome! the hardest working guys I've ever seen and very courteous. I couldn't be more pleased with them and the service I received... they know their stuff! You don't have to worry about getting screwed over by this company because they're not like that. I would highly recommend them if you have foundation issues.

V/r

Ron Berard

Repair of leaking basement wall. Had called Scott to see if he could give me an estimate of what it would cost and to see if we could set a time up this summer to repair the basement wall. He came out and told us he and his crew could do it now. I did not realize that this could be done in the winter time. Started work on March 3, 2014 and completed on March 11, 2014. Scott's crew came ready to work and worked hard every day. Would recommend them and would also have them return if any more work needs to be done. Very professional and friendly.

They came out as expected and did the work in 1 day. The other contractor who gave us a bid would not come out until the ground was dry. It had been raining for awhile. This job had to be done before this home closed for a sale. I called Scott and asked if he could do the work with wet ground. He said of course we can. He also asked if we had gotten the locates yet. The other contractor never mentioned the locates. Scott gave me the 811 number to call for locates. They were done and Scott's team came the next day and did the job. I am very pleased and would recommend him and his team!

I am an Realtor in Anchorage and will recommend them for future jobs. The seller was out of town so I contracted this job.

This was a messy job. This is an old cabin that has been added onto several times. The core cabin foundation was bad and some of the area around it was rotting. The workers, usually JP and James, were amazing. They called when they couldn't come, told us when they left early, and showed up when they said they would show up. They would tell us when something was worse than anticipated and show us the problem and what they recommended as the solution. They kept the budget in mind but managed to do so much more than originally planned. They dug out and cleaned the cramped crawlspace so we could get down there. They cleaned out a mess down there. They realized we needed steps down and put them in. They relocated the septic clean out to a better place while doing another project. They repaired the sump pump. They were willing to do anything they saw needed doing even if it wasn't strictly specified in the original contract.

Very professional, gave an accurate quote. He notified me of possible situations that that could occur and were not included in the quote prior to starting work so there would be no surprises, none of these contingencies were needed. The proof is in the pudding , the basement has remained dry in spite of significant rain in the short period since the work was done.

Alaska Foundation Technologies (AFT) excavated the entire 20" wall down to and including the footing partially with a small excavator but mostly by hand. The soil removed was relocated to another area on my property. They removed the crushed Egress Box, the old covering on the exterior wall (Tar Paper which had been Hot Mopped), power washed the All Weather Wood sheeting, installed Bituthain mastic over the sheeting, rebuilt the Egress Box to code and attached it to the foundation walls. In addition they installed 2" Foam Board to the entire wall (which was not part of their initial design). They then installed a 4" perforated drain pipe the length of the 20' wall and continued approximately another 30' with a solid drain pipe where it reached "daylight". They back filled the area excavated with 2" minus drain rock. All construction materials were removed to my satisfaction, the lawn damage was minimal. On the interior of the Bedroom, they repaired 3 studs. I removed the sheetrock, installed new R-21 insulation installed replacement sheetrock on the interior wall (I had agreed to do this before hand to keep the cost down a little bit).
This contractor was prompt, punctual, completed the work ahead of schedule, and provided me with a written agreement on scope of work and cost before the work was started. The also Warranted their materials and workmanship for five years.

A portion of the all-weather wood foundation had not been adequately supported with metal braced 2x6 studs by the previous homeowner, and over about 15 years' time, water, ice heaves and soil movement had caused the wood foundation walls to begin bowing inward into the crawlspace. This project included digging out around the pertaining foundation, removing warped plywood walls, repositioning supporting 2x6s and anchoring with metal hurricane ties, application of Bituthene water seal coating, replacing deteriorated curtain drain piping, back-filling with sewer rock and soil, and hauling away unused excavated soil. The area was about 15 linear feet in each direction from a 90 degree corner. The concrete footers were in good condition and needed no repair.
We had gotten an estimate from this company the previous year, in which they proposed additional extensive ditching to carry groundwater away from the foundation, but we felt the cost was prohibitive at that time. With some modification of the project and a need to remedy a potential severe foundation problem, the work done was about $3,000 less than the earlier proposal. It was recommended that the work be done before the ground had completely thawed, to reduce the amount of ground water that might pool around the work area. It took about 12 days to complete the project, due to an unexpected 7 inch snowfall on May 18th and the coming of the 3-day Memorial Day holiday.
There were 2 men, and some days 3, working on the project. They were efficient and hard working, knowledgeable about what needed to be fixed, and did even more than we expected. They were friendly and forthcoming with answers to any of our questions. We did not feel the need to oversee every step of their work. The only non-positive comment I would make is that the project might have been finished a little sooner if they had begun each day's work a littler earlier. Most days they were not here until after 9:00 am and some days not until noon.
We were extremely satisfied with this company and would highly recommend the quality they provide in addressing a wood foundation problem.
AFT had a crew in Fairbanks installing a foundaiton and had a couple of days downtime between concrete placement and clean up. I needed a soil report or exploration completed for a project, and gave Tom a call and Eagle River. They didn't have the equipment in Fairbanks to do the job, but loaded up a truck in Eagle River, and had the pile test completed within 24 hours.
