We have had 3 different project managers (the story we were told is that the previous ones got fired) and now no one is returning our emails or returning our phone messages. We have not heard from anyone for 2 months, despite me emailing and leaving phone messages. Even the president, Max, is not answering emails or returning phone calls.

The last 2 project managers (Daniel and Marcia) told us that the work done on our kitchen was substandard and they would do everything possible to rectify our situation.

We are at a loss at what to do next. It appears our only option is to hire someone else to finish what needs to be finished and have all the deficiencies fixed.

Needless to say, we would never recommend Alexander Inc. of Tampa Bay.

One of four proposals received, highly recommended on Angie's list, went to offices in Tampa, checked licenses etc. to insure a legitimate business with longevity and stability. The permit process and inspections of Pinellas county provide additional checks that work is performed to code. The project and CONTRACT specified approximately 4 month effort. Delay in starting and throughout the project. Contract signed in May 2013, Certificate of Occupancy was issued in February 2014 with a non functioning sliding door that did not allow us to lock and secure the house for months. Installation of the door was in Sept. 2013, screen to the door still not installed and still unable to lock and unlock the door without assistance, i.e. pliers or needle nose pliers.

Significant delay in installing roofing tiles, question of the color not matching, so no action taken for over a month, after tiles were delivered on driveway and many placed, not installed, on the roof.

Project Manager was not present at the work site more than an hour once a week, then not at all. He did answer his cell phone in the beginning then stopped responding and we call others at the office for resolution.

A subcontractor knocked on our door in February, 2014 requesting payment of a bill to Alexander for services finished in Oct. 2013. Also learned of another subcontractor who had not been paid. HVAC and Plumbing.

Our contract was specific and taylored to the job--highly recommend. Cannot imagine the outcome if homeowners were not on site every day and had not had considerable experience with residential construction. We do think that we received value for our costs but would not anticipate this level of involvement, scrutinity, and supervision. Recognize that things will go wrong--it is how they are addressed when they do. Alexander Inc was at first responsive to problems, then there were long lapses in time before they would address large or small issues. We feel fortunate that this occurred toward the end of the 8 month project that was expected to start in June 2013 but did not start until August and is still not concluded.
They are doing fine. They are very professional about doing things. The communication is not great. They need to work on the communication with the customer. I find myself like I have been reaching out a lot more than I would like to. I like to be contacted by them with any issue with the construction. The price is reasonable. They are very nice. The communication is the only complaint that I have. They haven't completed the work yet.

Update 2/22/14
Communication started going bad. They gave a deadline for November but that went by. There were issues with piping as well as other delays. They kept asking for more money. They then said they would be done on 2/11 but its no where near done. The construction manager that I started working with no longer works for the company. They keep giving me the run around. Employees state that the owner is the only person to schedule work but he out with medical issues. I started getting a notice from the sub contractor to pay them.

The work was done was fine. They put new tiles and new faucets, one of the pipes was broken during the process. The next door apartment was flooded with water. They did not return my calls and it took three weeks to fix the issue. They did not answer the calls right away they did not seem to care that they were putting out the apartment where it was leaking. When I called the office, the staff was not very professional. It took a long time to finish the process it was supposed to be done at a much earlier time. In the meantime there was leakage going on. They did not take care of this.
Response from Alexander Inc of Tampa Bay
"This client is correct that there was an issue with one of the plumbing fittings that caused the apartment next door to receive water damage but it was handled swiftly and directly with the Management Company of the complex. The moment that the Management Company contacted us about the problem we took care of it right away. We did not communicate directly with this client since the problem was not in her apartment, but we were in constant contact with the Property Manager."

I selected this company because they said they could give me a tub surround in lieu of the tile. After we were into the contract they said that they could not get it within a certain time frame. Nevertheless, we agreed to let them put in a 3 piece surround instead of the original 1 piece surround. The leader was very congenial and tried to satisfy everything. They have an excellent admin person, Sofia, who answers the phones.

. Started out good but the longer it went the worst it became. I gave them an A earlier, hoping everthing would work out when we were in the middle of the remodel but things only became worse. I would go into verbal promises but as we know they mean nothing so I will just bring up 3 points. One, they were several weeks overdue on completing the project and Dan stated that the completion date wa sonly an estimation. Two, the longer the project went the worse they treated our house. Three, when they were done the rain glass and tile walls were supposed to be the same height (this was the only product they provided). The glass panels are a foot and a half shorter than the tile. Dan initially said the glass company installed the wrong size glass panels because he was quoted the correct size. After a few weeks he said the glass company would not correct the situation and he would compensate us for the difference. A few more weeks have passed and he has not done anything. In his quote we were supposed to have 8' glass panels and 8' tile, he provided 6'1/2'' panels and no resolution.
Response from Alexander Inc of Tampa Bay
"First and foremost, we truly apologize for your dissatisfaction with the completion aspect of the project. Thank you for the initial A rating, please know that we have implemented changes within the company concerning the conduct and standards of our subcontractors. These changes were made to ensure this will not happen in the future. (We are using in house employees on 90% of our small jobs) We have severed our ties with the company that supplied the quote and the material for the shower glass. With many phone calls and emails between both parties, the glass company was unwilling to work with us to come to a suitable resolution. The treatment to the home during this project was unacceptable, those employees are no longer with our company. Part of our company’s policy is to treat your home as our own, and that was clearly not the case in this instance. Due to the unavailability of the specialty glass enclosure, the agreeable solution was to credit the customer the difference. Our hope was that the manufacturer would have handled the situation in a timelier manner. Their prolonged non responsiveness prompted us to issue you a compensation check. It does not excuse our accountability, we are ultimately responsible for the oversight of your project. Customer satisfaction has and always will be our top priority. Overall, our experience was great. Daniel kept us informed and always answered our questions. There were a couple hiccups during he process, but whenever multiple trades and contractors are involved, that is to be expected. The final product is the most important thing, and it came out exactly as we planned. I would highly recommend them.

Daniel, Construction Manager, met with me at the rental. He evaluated the remodel area as well as dining room ceiling below where there had been leakage. He gave a clear and concise explanation of remodel process. The written proposal was accepted with the understanding that time was of essence in completing the work within a 2 week window. The remodel was at a rental and the tenant would be out-of-town duringthat window.
The demolition was completed with perfection on day 1 by Journeyman, Adrian and a helper - it was fast and clean.
Two days into the start of the job, Daniel advised that the supplier could not provide the single surround and it could not be available within the timeframe. He suggested a 3 piece surround. Because time was of essence, I reluctantly agreed and requested the company?s guarantee as well as the manufacturer?s warranty that the tub and surround will not leak.
Adrian completed the remodel with expertise and care. The existing wall mirror needed to be moved to allow space in height for the new vanity cabinet. He also patched and spackled the dining room ceiling where there had been leakage and water flow.
A glitch occurred with the plumbing where the plumber had not tightened pipes thoroughly and water flowed through the ceiling from bath tub when testing.
On the evening of completion, the tenant notice very small cracks in the surround. The manufacturer is scheduled to repair them.
Daniel was knowledgeable and responsive to all issues as they occurred.
Sophia, the office person, was extremely pleasant to deal with regarding scheduling and reminders.

Our experience with Daniel at Alexander Inc could not have been more positive. He was professional throughout the entire process and is extremely knowledgeable of products and process. Most importantly he was Present throughout the entire process. From contract to samples, decision making to job completion Daniel was present to make sure we were happy with the work. Because the work that was being completed was in our home office it was very important to us to have people that would be respectful of our schedules since we have two young children. The crew leveraged to complete the jobs were pleasant to work with and made sure they cleaned up after themselves before they left each day. I feel like Daniel has become part of the family now and wouldn't hesitate to go to him for all future work that we want completed. And since no job is too small that is music to this homeowners ears. Daniel is flexible and he wants his customers to be happy. He makes sound recommendations and it is evident that he wants to build a relationship and not just land a job.
My daughter discovered that our bathroom floor was badly decayed in fromt of the toilet. Naturally, this was a Sunday. So we went on Angies' List to find a contractor that could help. Max with Alexander Inc was the first to respond to our call for help. His forerman Daniel can out the next day to inspect the floor. It looked pretty bad, but Daniel said that it would last till Friday, 11/2, when he would have a two an crew start on the project. Time was of the essence, as we were having company that following weekend. The men got right to work tearing apart the bathroom, and actually had the floor and toilet in that same day! Seeing how great it was starting to look, I asked if they could do a few things that were not on the original estimate. Daniel came by and gave his approval for all the other "little things" that I asked to be done.
When it all was complete, I couldn't believe it was the same bathroom - with a solid floor!! Byron and Lorenzo did a great job working in this tiny bathroom without much room to move about.
They were polite, efficient, and I could tell that they had the experience.
I would recommend ALEXANDER, INC OF TAMPA BAY very highly. Thank you, Max, for answering the call from two "damsels in distress". GREAT JOB!!!

The entire project went great from start to finish. They responded quickly after my initial call, made the first site visit immediately and was able to answer all of my questions. Their price was right in my budget and the work from start to finish was great. I have plans to use them again in the future.

It was very easy working with Max at Alexander Inc of Tampa Bay . They provided the full circle of service from helping with the new design layout, and coordinating the color scheme to match the variety of new materials used in the remodel.

The questions that we would of never thought of were brought up in our first meeting, addressed points and problems we had over looked when we started this process. We would call and email him with what we at times taught were crazy questions, but he always answered and pointed us back in the right direction. This was one of the big reason why we chose to go with Alexander Inc.

With the information and solution planning provided by Max; we were able to save a lot of time on the project and money. It was a plus to know that our contractor was actually thinking ahead to catch as many issues before they became big expensive problems in the future.

The work was within the projected time frame and within our projected budget. When we started the project we had hoped it would of gotten done faster, but Max assured us that faster would not get the work done the right way.

We would absolutely use Max at Alexander Inc on any future work( kitchen, and exterior), and already have recommend them to a few friends that are getting ready to keep up with us.

The service provided was very good. He was on time with projecting the dates and time of completion of the project and he worked hard to get the job done. His service was excellent. He fulfilled every promise of the contract. He came in right under budget for all other estimates and I got a lot more for my money. He was able to cover things such as flooring and painting for the same price and most other contractors were charging additional fees for this. If I have another home remodel project in the future I will be sure to use him again.

The best part about this company is that they see a problem and find affordable solutions. They don't stick it to me just because the task is daunting; rather they work with the subs and the county offices to find the best and most affordable way to get the job done.

He's aware of my budget, he sticks within it, and that's important to me.

Another plus - he's respectful to my wife and kids. That says a lot about his character, as well as his professional competence.

Overall, I'm very pleased. I thought about doing this job myself - I pulled together all my bids, and worked up my budget. Then I turned it over to Max. He saved me thousands. That's the sign of a great contractor - not just doing the job well, but adding value.

Overall process went very well. My wife and I qualified for a FHA 203k rehab program. Referred by our friend and Realtor suggested Alexander Inc. of Tampa Bay as our general contractor. Since we went with the 203k program, our selected GC had to be licensed, insured, and bonded to qualify. Max was our contractor in charge of the rehab. Bid was submitted and work started once we closed on our house. From start to finish everything went very well and would recommend Alexander of Tampa Bay for you next house remodel.
