Peter Munro and his crew did attempt to do the work we discussed. My cabinets were repainted, counters installed, upper cabinet removed, light installed, and painted. Nothing they did was satisfactory - and I really tried and hoped there would be something salvageable with the work they completed. This was my first time hiring a contractor and attempting any remodeling in my home - hard lessons learned. I did look at Angie's List on his reviews, and I feel responsible to let others know what happened to me. I also think there is some confusion with who owned the company before and the partner in Bend - so this review is specific to Peter Munro and his crew in Portland.

NO work was done to a level of professionalism expected or promised. This is not only my opinion - but that of 4 other contractors I had in my home after to review and quote for repairing/finishing the job.
I attempted to work with Peter (with the help of my designer who said the work was very, very poor quality and she would not pay for it). However, he demanded payment and said "He was broke" and that he wanted to be paid and move on. I told him I would need to hire other contractors to repair and finish the "work" he's done, so I wouldn't be paying him until I got other opinions. I had 4 contractors tell me to file a complaint and not give him any more money. I was told that he violated basic contractor rules by never presenting me with a contract or notices

I filed a pre-complaint notice with the board and sent it certified mail to Peter. I never heard anything from Peter about trying to resolve the situation. The sink he installed collapsed into my lower cabinets a few weeks after I filed the pre-complaint and at that time I decided to dispute the charges with American Express for the $3500 I did pay him as a deposit. I have photos and descriptions of the myriad mistakes, problems, and bad work that was done by Peter (and his crew).

The list below is not exhaustive (too much for the space here), but what I was told to do for filing my complaint with the board and documenting the work
Overall, the work was not done on time or in an acceptable, professional manner. I was told 7 days from when counters were removed and the job took over a month. The individuals staying in my house over that time said the house was left with garbage/food wrappers on the floor daily, construction materials in my garbage like paint buckets, nails on the floor, lights on, etc upon leaving. I was told that no one showed up on multiple days when they said they would be there – which required my dogs to be unnecessarily contained and gated in the house.

Paint All Kitchen Cabinets:

Issues

No Prep was done, paint starting chipping instantly.

Touch-ups were done with a brush leaving marks everywhere and look shiny instead of matte

Nothing was done (As discussed with Peter) to address mobility of drawers and shavings falling from wood to wood rubbing

Zero cleaning after work of wood chips, paint inside drawers

Move Hutch to Other Wall Finish Out the Soffit: Used too much putty in repairing the ceiling. It is drying/shrinking and cracking.

Paint used over the repairs is not the same as the rest of the ceiling, Holes in the hutch were not all patched/filled- only one side

No prep was done to paint the wood of the hutch. Needed a proper primer to hold the paint,Magnets were not removed from the inner cabinet, but just left in place and painted over

Countertops in Prefinished Butcher Block

Issues Needs to be completely replaced on sink wall and counter leveled, Sink was cut incorrectly – 1/16 inch wider in back than front and ¼ inch out of square leaving uneven gaps, Counter was overcut for the sink in the corner initially, Added piece on the side has not been sanded properly and there is a lip, Used wrong color of wood putty and needed cut properly and glue with tight fit, Screw in the wood to hold it down, the counter above dishwasher still has give when pressure is added, Screw won’t be covered unless I decide to tile and have to use a thick enough tile not likely to even cover

Rebuild Two Drawer Boxes/eliminate cutting board for Larger Drawer: Issues -Drawer was painted and left raw – never sanded, Incorrect screws were used to install pulls (too long) and hang out, During construction, screwed straight through the drawer front creating a hole in the face, just painted over protruding screw, Touch up paint on that hole, no filler, paint is with a brush and needs to be re-sanded and painter, Drawer can’t even be pulled open more than 3 inches because hits dishwasher. Can only open drawer if dishwasher is also open.

Paint Ceiling and Walls - Issues: I agreed to pay $1800 for painting and patching, Nothing was prepped and holes were not patched, nothing sanded, Nails were left in the wall and painted around and over, Overspray is on the outside of the windows, window pain and fascia, Requested for more coats because blue previous color was coming through, never done, Paint wasn’t taken down far enough to cover all the blue near the floorboards, Kitchen wasn’t painted in patches – behind the fridge, upper wall, soffit edge completely not painted, door frame, No or incorrect primer used on cedar so it bleeds through despite pointing it out, Paint was spilled all over the wood floors, floors were not protected, Baseboards were removed (and not returned) without prior approval, I was never given a quote before the work was finished and never agreed to the costs

Repair hole in Soffit Above Sink and Mount Light Fixture:Issues- Never given a quote before the work was finished or agreed on cost.No proper cedar sealer was used before paint was applied, Finger prints left in the paint, Sink or counter was not covered during work and paint splatter on new counter/faucet/sink

Cost of Plumber to hook up Sink and Disposal: Issues

Sink not installed properly or supported (a piece of wood underneath holding it up) and required more expertise to install. I showed and asked Peter if he could install this sink in that space, and even what size to order before purchasing the sink.

Damage scratches to sink from clamps used to hold/set wood counters and ceiling filler falling into the sink from above

Modify Cabinets to Fit Farm Sink; issues, Never given a quote before the work was finished or agreed on cost, Cabinet door stop/divider completely unsupported and able to be pulled off, Broke/cracked wood when installing disposal switch and never replaced, Cabinets were cut and not square, level, or even cuts on either side, Cabinets were not sanded at all after cut before they were painted, Cabinets were scratched after installation and needed to be touched up, touch up with different type of paint or brush so visible.

Unauthorized Work Floors, Issue, With no agreement or conversation, regarding my hardwood floors the baseboards of my floors were all removed, Even removing the baseboards, the crew did not sufficiently paint low enough to cover the existing paint color

Baseboards have not been put back, My floors were not protected when the living room was painted resulting in several large and small paint spills, splatters, drops, Drops/Spills were asked to be cleaned up and now floors look worse, At clean-up, crew didn’t even bother to move the couch to clean the paint spilled underneath, Furniture was removed and not put back as requested.
