I hired Alpine Chimney to do an estimate on a Chase cover for my chimney as it was rusted and leaking water into my house. They supplied me with a proper estimate and they’re pricing was very reasonable. The customer service I received from the first phone call to the final day of installation was way above anything I expected. I would highly recommend them to everyone and they will service my home again

I should have check on Angie's List first before hiring them from a coupon. What a horrible experience and this company. They should not be in business anymore. The phone number listed is the owner's wife, Marina, who never quite tells the truth or is great at blaming the customer. The only employee they seem to have is a kid named Rob, who looks stoned all the time and is always 4+ hours late to his appointments. The first time he showed up he seemed honest enough so we gave him a deposit for future work. He was supposed to get a special chimney cap with a flue built in. After 3 weeks and no call back, I called Marina, and finally she made him come back. I was a little concerned because the second time Rob came back, he didn't remember being at my house. He came in with his dirty shoes and was rushing around like he was flying high on something. After he installed the cap, we had a few concerns, but all he kept saying was...its guaranteed. He did a shoddy job on the cement, installed the flue chain twice because he goofed it up the first time, and finally never cleaned the chimney because he lied the first time and it didn't need it. We did not sign the paperwork that we were satisfied, and called the main office to complain. Marina assured us that he did a good job, and not to worry that it was guaranteed. I expressed my concerns about the cap...she said don't worry, just use it. So New Years Eve we started a fire, but the poorly installed flue was frozen shut, and the smoke filled our home...luckily we had a fire extinguisher nearby. A few more minutes and we would have had to call the fire dept. When I called Marina, she said her husband Joe would call me back. I called for 3 weeks, nothing. He refused to call, and she continued to blamed me. Said that the caps freeze, that i should have known the flue on the roof didn't open, should not have used a fire extinguisher, and the cap is fine. She said I should try it again that it should work when the ice melts. I told her my insurance does not cover stupidity and I was not using the fireplace until her husband inspected it. I just wanted the cap fixed, not looking to get my money back. A reputable company should have come right away. After 4 weeks, they sent Rob back, who indicated that the owner does not work anymore. Very misleading advertisement for a company. Rob brought a helper who was the only person who seemed to know anything. Rob had no clue what was wrong, but I overheard them talking through the fireplace when they were on the roof. The helper said to Rob "why you no adjust it?" and Rob's reply "I didn't know I had to." Never a call to apologize. That says all I needed to know...this company gets a big F

I called Alpine in response to an Angie's List coupon special - $148 for cleaning one fireplace chimney and one oil furnace chimney. When the crew arrived I was told that I needed repairs to my chimney crowns which they could do with a special super tough, heat resistant, waterproof material for $50 a chimney. Then I was told that I needed a stainless steel lining system for the oil furnace chimney - $1300. Since Alpine had received good reviews at that time on Angie's List, I trusted their professionalism and had the recommended work done.

We have not used our fireplace since Alpine "cleaned" the chimney. Now we are getting ready to install a new wood burning insert and have discovered that all the soot and debris that Alpine scraped from the inside of the chimney they left accumulated on top of the chimney's damper. I tried to open the damper and an avalanche of black dust crashed into the fireplace and made a mess of my living room.

After only one heating season, the oil furnace chimney crown that Alpine worked on was peeling like old paint and had cracks all over it. Since the fireplace chimney has not been used, it still looks OK but what's it going to look like when I start using the fireplace?
I called Alpine and told them about the improperly cleaned chimney and the cracked crown. They set up an appointment to fix the problems but never showed up -- twice! I wasted two days waiting for these people and they did not even offer an explanation or an apology. Now they are not returning my phone calls. I have left at least a half dozen messages on their answering machine and they have not gotten back to me.

The third thing that Alpine did last year was install a stainless steel chimney liner. They charged $1300 for 20 feet of liner that took them about one half hour to install. While pricing fireplace inserts I recently received quotes from several dealers for the same type of liner. The highest price that I got was $575 for 25 feet! I know that labor cost vary from on chimney to the next but a difference of $725! If that was all for labor, then that's $1450 per hour.

I hired Alpine Chimney to clean my woodstove insert & the stone chimney that it resides in, as well as fix a leak in this stone chimney. When they got there they said I needed a expensive custom cap on the stone chimney top, which I agreed to, and then talked me into cleaning out my home heating furnace flu pipe that vented my Newmac wood/coal/oil burning furnace, to which I reluctantly agreed. Big mistake on my part.

To make a long story short, the stone chimney still leaks, I had to point out to them that there were pieces of my wood burning stove that still had to be reassembled from when they took it apart, in that same room they left the downstairs door wide open in January (luckily 20 minutes later I discovered it and closed it), but the icing on the cake was when without me realizing it they had tried to take apart the furnace flu chimney and trashed it, dented it up like crazy, attempted to reassemble it and affixed a garbage strip of metal to fasten it back to the house. It was a hideous mess. After months of trying to get the owner to fix the problem, the end result was that the owner would not acknowledge the damages his workers did and left me holding the bag.

Pitiful really -- I have many credible witnesses including Town Bldg Dept., who had just been at my property shortly before the did their "work" and saw the condition of the flu pipe before they trashed it, but yet they flat-out lied and say it was damaged before they touched it.

I filed a report with the BBB and the Dept. of Consumer Affairs, but did not take them to small claims court because they're company is based in Suffolk County, Long Island and too far for me to go (lucky for them).

I would not recommend Alpine Chimney for any job, small or big, but run in the other direction. I had to hire anther company to completely replace the flu pipe which ended up being very expensive because it had to be retro-fitted. The company that did the work to fix it did a terrific job, and I would highly recommend them: AAA Chimney in Carmel NY. I wish I had hired them in the first place instead.

As anticipated: called ahead, arrived on time, curteous, worked quickly and efficiently, cleaned up after themselves, pointed out areas of concern and options to remdiate. No hard sell, no pressure to add additional work. Seemed honest and straight-forward.
Found much debris at the base of the flue from the oil burner. Explained that it's from the deterioration of the clay flue. Recommended a stainless steel flue with lifetime guarantee. Gave price range for that job. I informed that I would not do that this season, but would consider it for the future. No counter/pressure to do the job now.
Easy to work with.
We were new home owners and so excited to finally use our fireplace. We bought a groupon for a chimney sweep for our new fireplace.
This was our first mistake. Rather than use angle's list we booked a random service with a random chimney sweep, and we paid for it. BIG TIME.
they arrived, and "swept our chimney"
they told us our chimney caps were old and needed to be replaced, so we trusted them. they installed 2 caps. even from looking at them, they were crooked. They didn't seem like they were properly installed.
They never discussed price, which of course was another mistake of ours, not asking upfront.
upon completion of the job, they handed us a $500 bill. They even forgot to credit us the amount we paid for the groupon.
We then had tremendous problems with our fireplace all of last winter. Smoke filled the room every time we lit a fire. So much so, we stopped using our fireplace over the bitter cold winter.
This summer we had our roof replaced. We also needed the facade of the chimney fixed. When we called another chimney company to come out and give us a quote, they told us the caps that were on the chimney were choking our chimney and causing the smoke problem. We had a custom cap built (as they don't make caps the size we needed) and since then our chimney has been working great.
When this year's cleaning took place the guy said the chimney clearly hadn't been swept in years. Meaning that Alpine did not properly sweep the chimney last year, and then upsold us on chimney caps we didn't need.
I've been trying to speak to the manager for months and he won't return my phone call. All we want is a refund.
I highly advise staying away from this company.
It was 59 dollars for a cleaning and inspection because there was smoke coming inside the house they told me that 99% sure it was the cap and that it will fix it but it is worse. I called and they send some on out without letting me know because.they dont call ppl back, lucky I was home!. They didn't do anything and told me that they don't know what's going on, I called again because they have to move the ugly chain they put the first time and I'm still waiting for a call back, estimated time to call me back 10 mim, two days later I'm still waiting. I'm 8 months pregnant were without power for a night after and quot; fixing the chimney we couldn't use it and had to open all the doors and windows on one of thr coldest nights because of the smoke.

I asked for the owner the first time I called since its and quot;owner operatedand quot; but he's not available...
They guys came exactly on-time, worked quickly, cleanly, and were very friendly and knowledgable. As a relatively new homeowner, I asked a lot of dumb questions, and they were patient with me, and explained everything. I feel the price was very reasonable for the job, the Qand A, and the peace of mind knowing what shape my chimneys were in (good condition), and that they were as clean as they could be.
Dan and his colleague were outstanding. Arrived on time, took time to explain the issues he found, his work was very neat and thorough. Dan made it a point to come down from the roof with photos to show me the issue(s) he identified and to ask if I was interested in having the issue repaired. After the repair, he'd show me a second set of photos of the work. I will definitely use Alpine and Dan again. Thank you for the great work.
Called Alpine the day prior (rep friendly) and had an appointment the following morning. The two men arrived on time and called prior to appointment to confirm arrival time. They asked if they should take their shoes off, which was very professional of them. They put a carpet down in front of the fireplace. I used a Valpak Coupon for the cleaning. They also provided a free inspection and the second man noticed our fireplace cap was metal and was rusting our roof - he showed me the pictures he took with his cellphone. We chose to have that replaced with a stainless steel cap (which by the way has a lifetime warranty). The man also stated our air vents weren't capped off and animals/leaves could enter the attic. I bought two stainless caps for $100 and have peace of mind. Everything cleaned and installed took 45 minutes. will use them again.
We searched for chimney sweepers on Groupon and Angie's List and found Alpine Chimney Sweeps. From the first call to Alpine Chimney Sweeps, we knew that we were dealing with professional people. The secretary who answered the phone was very polite and helpful. Joe and Alphonso were excellent workers. They arrived on time, went right to work and were very professional. Our home was built in 1954, so the need for a new flue liner (oil burner only) and new chimney caps was apparent. Joe and Alphonso were able to complete the entire job, cleaning the flues, placing new liner, placing new caps, and cleaning the work area, all within an hour and a half. We highly recommend Alpine Chimney Sweeps.
They were very prompt (early, actually), but we were the first stop of the day. We needed a chimney damper replaced. He explained how the new ones work, as opposed to the old, masonry-involved one we had. He threw in a little fireplace repointing. They checked outside and discovered some broken chimney caps or something(sorry, I don't remember exactly what. I was not the one dealing directly with them), which they also replaced. All in all, they were quick, clean and attentive. My biggest problem was with the less than friendly woman who answered the phone and made the appointment.

No mess left to clean up after they left. In and out in under 45 minutes. If you order service through and Angie's List Deal, you'll have to provide a check for sales tax at time of service. Also, if ordering a deal, you'll to need to call the company to schedule the service, they won't call you.
