$72,000
Things started out well with Phil Graham and his company. Despite crazy costs for installing a Trex deck and all of the custom work required, I decided to move forward with his company versus the more widely known Chattanooga Exteriors. I felt he would be able to add the personal touch needed for me to feel comfortable with the project while I worked. The project ended up taking longer than expected. According to my wife, his crew normally was late arriving, had numerous breaks, and left early almost every day. I figured it wasn't a big deal since it fell on Phil's shoulders and his nickel to pay them for the extra days. But the lack of urgency did annoy us a bit. Overall, though, the deck itself appeared to be a wonderful replacement for our wood deck that was failing. But the little details at the end seemed to trip up Phil and his crew. Communication became limited, and excuses became plentiful. However, after $72,000 spent and several months of time, we had a completed deck. In less than a year in March of this year, I reached out to Phil again. The sideboards throughout the construction were failing. Several of the boards have bowed out enough to pull the screws out. This seems to be a problem with Trex and not necessarily Phil and his crew. However, as the face of the project, I reached out to him in March with numerous pictures. As bad as his response timing was at the end of the project last summer and fall, his response this time around has been awful. There seems to be no interest at all in fixing a deck project we spent $72,000 on. Since Phil likes to compare his industry to mine (the auto industry), imagine buying a brand new Stingray Corvette with numerous dents. The dents in our deck are the bowing sideboards. Would anyone reading this accept a new Stingray Corvette with dents all over it? I think not. As the customer, you would expect the dents to be repaired (though you would likely not accept a previously dented Stingray). That's all I have been asking since March. We are basically spending our second summer unable to entertain at our house and in our pool area because last year the deck wasn't completed in the promised time frame and now because the repairs cannot be completed. Instead, we have a $72,000 deck project with eyesores. I am embarrassed to even talk to my coworkers about this because they thought I was crazy to spend this kind of money on a deck in the first place. Now the situation is laughable because I can't even get the deck repaired. Understand, too, that I wasn't even 100% happy with the project. The underdeck has never functioned exactly as it was supposed to. The previous deck had a cheaper system that worked much better. But I let that slide initially. I'm convinced now that the whole situation has become heated that I likely will be left with a $72,000 deck with a lot of issues. So, I cannot recommend Altus Building Solutions to anyone!

The quality of the work is excellent. It is a very nice porch and open deck. The price quoted seemed fair because of the amount of work to be performed and the length of time, 3 weeks, that it was supposed to take. However, the work only took 3 days and the price was not adjusted for the difference in manhours that were actually used. We asked about it and were told that since they sent a 4-man crew instead of 3-man crew, the priced quoted remained correct.
Response from Altus Building Solutions LLC
"Everything went well on this project and we increased our labor force to get things completed quickly. This is the first time I have ever been graded lower because we finished quickly."

After the excellent results from our first deck rebuild that was a warranty claim that Phil really made happen, I decided to hire them to rebuild the deck around our pool. As expected the results are again excellent. When the deck was finished I was out of town and there were a few items that I wanted taken care of upon my return. I contacted Phil and he had his crew out there the next day to take care of the items on my list. Everything is now perfect and I would hire them again in the future. I would recommend Altus without reservation as they not only have great craftsmanship, but also care about the client and have outstanding integrity.

I purchased a home with extensive deck work surrounding a pool. The home inspector identified a large portion that was poorly constructed and had potential safety issues. I contacted Phil via Angie's list and he was very professional and responsive. After explaining the issue, he agreed to replace that part of the deck and do it correctly. He was able to meet our time frame and he and his crew did an outstanding job. I highly recommend Altus Building Solutions (Phil) for any type of deck work. I would not hesitate to hire him again.

This provider was consulted after the initial installation of a deck that was now about 1 year old and beginning to show signs of failure. The very first visit he was up front that this deck was not only built poorly but not to code and that there was no way to repair it. He went on to say that to properly reconstruct it not only would it have to be completely rebuilt but built much better than the first one at a greater expense to the company who hired the initial contractor. He further told me that he would not take on this project unless he was allowed to do it properly to maintain his reputation. He spend a great deal of time and energy going fairly high up the corporate chain at this corporation to get approval to spend almost $5000 more to properly build this deck. The workers were professional and did a great job on the installation and cleanup, even installing a giant post so my children could swing over the pool. I am planning on hiring him again in the near future to do more deck work for me. Would highly recommend without hesitation.

Our home had an enclosed side porch with a flat rubber membrane roof that served as a sun room. The rubber roof began to fail due to age and poor initial installation. Altus Building Solutions framed in a shed roof over the porch, insulated with R30 batting and installed an architectural shingle and new 6" gutter and downspout. The crew was prompt, efficient and extremely courteous completing the entire job in a single day. I will definitely use them for my roofing needs in the future.

It went fantastic !
From the very beginning we where completely comfortable, from the management to all the crew members.
They arrived on time every day and worked very hard.
Everybody was professional, all crew members where clean cut and politely spoken.
All trash and debris was removed every single day and materials where always stacked neatly.
Management was very thorough and explained everything extremely well to me and my husband so we could understand it.
Our project turned out fantastic, we cannot thank everybody involved enough.
Money well spent........
I can't say enough nice things about the guys at Altus Building Solutions. Their price was extremely competitive and their work was superb. From the initial contact until the clean up was done, they were prompt and efficient. Juan provided a quote for me quicker than most of his competitors. He was thorough in providing the estimate with no last minute surprises. Once we approved the estimate, his crew arrived on time. They were courteous and worked hard to complete our project in a timely manner. And they even cleaned up after themselves. The work was well done and they finished in the promised time frame. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone who needs a new roof, deck or gutter guards.

Altus Building Solutions came on site and stayed with it until complete. Phil Graham came by several times a day if not all day and made sure work was done correctly. Phil came by when the workers had gone for the day and reviewed the project with me and my wife. He made sure that we were completly happy with the work. He is the only contractor I WILL recommend to family and friends. That is not done lightly with me because I do not want to take the blame for someones work. I will continue to give my highest recommendation to use Altus Building Solutions for a Fair, Honest and Dependable contractor,Family and friends have now used Altus and are very pleased with the projects that have had done.

John Scruggs
Chattanooga ,Tn.

I needed a roof replaced and got several
quotes from different companies. There were nuances with the various companies
that I didn't care for which included everything from attitude to scheduling
conflict. I spoke with Phil with Altus and right off, I could tell he did
business differently. He was very amiable and genuinely seemed interested in
answering my questions and addressing my concerns. Once I decided to use Altus, it was
easy. They based their work on my
schedule and made an obvious effort to keep from disrupting my movement. During this process, Phil gave me several
calls during the day to give me an update on how the project was
proceeding. The roof crew did an
incredible job of cleaning up and ran a magnet over the yard and driveway to
pick up nails.

As an aside, a couple of the quotes I got
from other companies quoted the roof taking up to three days. The Altus crew came in around 0630hrs and was
gone by 1900hrs that evening, completely finished with the roof.

The soffits were done on a subsequent day
by a different crew and that project took a couple of days which is
understandable. Again, they were very
considerate of my movement and were polite and respectful. Phil was easy to communicate with and again, genuinely
seemed interested in addressing my questions and concerns.

Both the roofing crew and the soffit crew
made several repairs as they found necessary.

Once completed, the work on both the roof
and soffit looked good and appeared to have been done with quality
workmanship.

The cost of the roof was about in the
middle for the estimates I got. I think the
quality of work and the professional attitude of not only Phil but also the two
work crews, made the cost very worthwhile.

I have additional work to do on this
house, so as soon as the roof is paid for, I?ll continue with the remodeling. I am going to use Altus. I like dealing with
Phil and I believe he shoots straight, and that is worth so much now days.

Phil was great to work with. This project was a collaborative effort. All ideas were discussed and the best solution was found. There was no pressure, just common sense solutions but the final result was a great looking and very useful deck. Most of all the wife was happy, and loved the final result. None of the delays and not meeting schedules! Was on time and able to accomplish several design changes that were added by us.
