The repair went great! Paul has a lot of knowledge on remodeling and repair. He works quick and does a fantastic job. He did a good job at trying to keep the work area clean and cleaned up after himself afterward. He is very honest and was able to work with my schedule. I would recommend American Remodel and Repair to anyone I know who needs a remodel or repair.

DO NOT HIRE! HORRIBLY UNPROFESSIONAL AND HIS WORK IS THAT OF AN AMATEUR. I hired Paul for an extensive remodel of my house which included essentially a complete gut of the kitchen and master bath along with a remodel of the vanity in the guest bathroom. I had a contract with Paul that stated he would personally be doing the work, and that he would work from 10am to 6pm on weekdays. Additionally, he said that I would be his only client during the remodel. Not only did he not personally do the work(He had a relative, who was a self-described "plumber", do the work), they would be absent for days and sometimes weeks at a time. When work was being performed, not once did anyone put in a full day's work. Paul would "pop-in" from time to time, however, only stay for a handful of minutes, then leave claiming he had to be somewhere else. On top of that, the work that was performed was shoddy at best. When approached about concerns of the work being performed, I would mostly get a blank stare or he would say he would "fix it", however, things would never get fixed. For example, brand new cabinet doors were purchased, but the corners of the doors were horribly misshapen. Pete, the family member which Paul had performing the bulk of the work, stated the cabinet doors were dropped at a party Paul had at his shop which caused the disfigurement of the corners. Paul said he would fix them, but never did. Everything was always going to "get done next". The final straw came when both Paul and his employee did not show up for 2 months. His excuse was he was waiting on flooring to arrive that was ordered through home depot. In the meantime, he could have been working on finishing the rest of the remodel and addressing the issues he said he would address. The plumbing he put in leaks. Garbage disposal does not work. A false door is missing from the cabinet. Every cabinet door he painted has horrible streaks as it was painted with a brush instead of sprayed and in most places has raw, natural wood still exposed. Additionally and oddly, the cabinets were painted with the brushed nickel hardware already installed, so there is white paint all over brushed nickel hardware. My stove was horribly scratched in the process of the remodel and white paint is all over it and my refrigerator. These are just a handful of examples of how amateur his work is. Completely exasperated, I ultimately told Paul to just not come back and would hire someone else to fix his "work". I feel completely let down, betrayed, and out $18,500 for work that will have to be completely redone. Learn from my mistake and please do not hire this guy as he is a fraud.
Response from American Remodel And Repair
"This customer asked me to redo work that was started by another contractor. I was reluctant but felt sorry for the guy. He had already spent $15,000 of $33,000 and it needed to be redone. I told him that I would redo the work for $20,000 and would work on it as I could with other jobs going on. He said he didn't care how long it took as long as done right. I personally gutted the shower and got it ready for the sub to install the tile. Oh, and he didn't mention the $2000.00 in plumbing repairs that the last contractor destroyed. I told him I would absorb the cost in the original bid. I also told him I would put a floor in his kitchen and dining room. Something that was not even in the last contractor's bid. As well as the fact that the last contractor took all the doors and drawer faces and I had to have custom made at my cost. The cabs were supposed to be repainted not new. As I said, I felt sorry for the guy. I also had the counters replaced with granite. I told him we could do entry level granite. He, of course, wanted the more expensive granite that ate up almost half the budget As work progressed the customer would come to me with the most ridiculous observations of the work being done. So the work would have to be done over to his liking. Which was incorrect. I would tell the subs just to do what he wanted even if it was incorrect. Almost every aspect of the job had to be done, over, and over. Half of the time either my crew couldn't get in the house or the customer told us to come back later. No matter what was done there was always a complaint. The last thing to do was the floor. The customer also wanted me to install flooring in his entry and painting of his guest bath, that was never discussed. He said he assumed that I would do it. I told him that I would get more flooring. The flooring was a special order and takes 21 days to receive. I had the guys install the quarter round on his flooring. We had to change the quarter round color twice on flooring and he still didn't like it. My guys said he also wanted to add wainscoting to his dining room walls. I had already gone above and beyond with this guy. I told the guys to not go back until the floor was in so I could be there to finish. The manufacturer sent the incorrect flooring so it did take some time. It wasn't two months though! I tried to contact the customer but got no reply. The day the floor came in I contacted him again. He said that he was out of town. The last time I contacted him he stated that he canceled the contract and had someone else finish. If I would have known this guy wanted a $50,000 remodel I would have bid it that way. He got way more than the $18,500 he paid. I was warned by another person that previously worked with this guy, not to take the job. Some people cannot ever be satisfied. Uber does customer reviews, why not Angie's List?"

Paul and his crew came to our rescue, yet again. This time we were told we had a gas leak and after some confusion because the gas company mislabeled the meters, Paul spent hours in the cold and dark to get our lines replaced from the meter to the house; working with the City Inspector and the gas company well into several nights. Needless to say, I am very grateful to American Remodel, Paul and Peter. When your heat and hot water are off, you really appreciate those that go beyond the job description to provide exceptional service.

Mr. Pena has been far more responsive that I've experienced with other contractors in Lubbock. His person installed the deck boards and there were a few that were less than ideal. I pointed them out and he agreed and fixed them within 24 hours. He is very responsive, always has ideas to improve the project and as a result it feels more like a partnership that a contractor relationship. As a result of his quality we've moved from a small job to over $15K of work.

Paul and his crew are always courteous and on time. They repaired water damage and moved fixtures on ceiling. Did excellent job in matching paint. In our new home, they installed new flooring throughout. He installed a particularly troublesome doggy door interior/exterior wall. Excellent job! His guys are always polite, comfortable with leaving crew while gone. Their clean up is top notch. Paul is very trustworthy and intuitive on what needs to be done. His pricing is on par with other estimates, but his professionalism won our trust. Plan to use him for other projects around new house and will/have recommend to neighbors and friends. Thank you, Paul for making the transition less painful!

Paul and Ian were always very courteous and timely. They always gave me notice when they were on the way to my house. I left them unattended to work in my home and was completely comfortable doing so. The bathroom turned and great and my daughter is very pleased! I would definitely recommend them to my friends and neighbors!

Paul and his crew were on time and in budget. I chose Paul out of 3 different contractors. Of all 3 Paul was the only contractor that told me "yes, we can make that happen" and he did. My bathroom is a long time vision coming true. I think it's gorgeous!

Paul and his crew were really great. We had a complete remodel of our small Tech Terrace house bathroom. They were hard working, communicative and tidy. Our tile job and the floor are especially well done. Some small issues with plumbing and electric but Paul knew exactly who to call AND at no additional charge. Paul is a creative problem solver! In these old houses, it's a much needed skill.
I would like to add that Paul was the only contractor we talked to that allowed us to pick our materials from a large discount store, not a high-end supplier who's prices would have been three times higher. An example - the sink we bought was $450 at most places, we went to ****** and bought it for $150. The tile was similar. This cut a $10,000 job down to a $7000.
Our job took a bit longer than expected but there were surprises along the way. Our work crew just kept going, even at 9PM (with our permission). We will call Paul Pena again for some other projects.

The guys were very prompt, and had fantastic communication with us. They worked with my schedule and tried to get to the issue as fast as time could allow. Paul knew we were working on a constrained budget and really went above and beyond to help us be able to afford to make the repairs needed, which was really a life saver. I was completely freaking out over how we were going to afford everything, and I couldn't be more grateful for how sympathetic they were. They took the time to explain what the actual problems that causes the damage were, what they weren't, and answered all of the questions I had, coming from someone who knows absolutely nothing about construction, in a way I could easily understand. They explained the possible solutions, and the processes for repairing the leak and the damage and what likely caused the initial hold in the AC pipe, as well as some other risks, and how we might avoid them. They even poked into another couple spots on our ceiling to make sure there wasn't any other water building up for us.
While they had access to the attic, they also took the time to look into another issue I'd told them about - a dip in the roof that the house had come with. The first guy we'd talked to wanted to charge us 4k for the bare minimum in fixing it, which we haven't been able to afford. Paul explained the entire issue to us, and even gave us a much more simple, straight forward way that even we could do ourselves if we wanted to, and quoted us a price that was amazingly better for us. We'll definitely be having them come back later to go about fixing that issue as well.
The work was completed in about 3-4 days, given the need to have things dry, or juggle schedules, and it looked fantastic once it was done. They also took special care to protect the area around the damage from the dust and debris from clearing it out and doing repairs, and kept it all contained and away from the rest of our house. We weren't able to afford the cosmetic work, in retexturing and repainting, but they also gave us some advise on how to easily do it ourselves, and pointed out some examples on the other ceilings in our home.
I really don't think we'll ever be calling anyone else but the guys at American Remodel in the future, both for the incredible quality of their work, and for how very caring they are about what they do and the people they help. I've already recommended them to another friend I have at work with a similar issue. They're professional, honest, hardworking and kind.
Thank you so much!

"[Member's name removed] thank you for the kind words. All of us at American Remodel believe that all consumers, should be treated with respect and understanding with their situation.I grew up with a single mother and watched contractors that took food off my mothers table for minor repairs that now, I know, were exactly that...Minor! All of us at America Remodel believe that all home owners should be treated with respect and dignity, and not just the bottom line.We pride ourselves for quality work at a fair price. At the end of day, a customer that is happy and satisfied is worth more than just taking what you can get from someone."

Remodels are never pleasant and usually filled with tedious details never imagined till already well into the process. Paul and his crew always seemed to be at least a step or two ahead of these details making it as smooth and convenient as possible. Paul has a talent for seeing a project for its potential before we can and then making it better then we imagined!

The quality of craftsmanship and attention to detail is first class all the way!

American Remodel was recommended by a co-worker. I had called two other contractors and they never showed for the appt. Mr. Pena (owner) showed up on time and had samples and pictures of his work.
We had a budget and Mr. Pena said that it would be no problem with his estimation.
The kitchen/break room was modernized with new simulated wood floors, custom cabinets, hardware, granite counter tops, texture, paint new ceiling grids (reclaimed from Hurricane Katrina), new sinks, and refrigerator.
I was put in the position to oversee the entire first floor remodel and also continuing my administrative duties. I asked Mr. Pena for ideas and input on the whole remodel. We had no idea what we wanted. Mr. Pena stated that he had experience in interior design and could draw up a few different scenarios.
Also, the work had to be done after hours because of the scope of the Radio stations daily functions.
After work began, I changed my mind numerous times on what we wanted as far as colors, textures, trim and so forth. Mr. Pena not once gave me the impression that I was being indecisive about the changes I would make. Matter of fact he embarrassed my indecisiveness and helped me with his ideas and knowledge. After a while I just told him that I trusted him enough just to go forward with what I envisioned.
The outcome could have not been better. After the first Restroom was remodeled we unveiled it to the staff. Everyone was blown away! Including Corporate that I had to answer to. Mr. Pena even had issues with the a/c ducts, water leaks and what not. But, no matter what was thrown at him and his crew, they always took care of it like it was no big deal.
In the middle of the project i had asked Mr.Pena if there was anyway to extend our storage to include under the staircase.
He stated that he had already been thinking about this and suggested something else. He took all the wasted space in between our offices and built a huge storage area that included the wasted space under the stairwell.
I could go on and on.....
These guys are PROS! All of Mr. Pena's crew and subs were all very knowledgeable in their crafts! And I can say very respectful.
We left our offices and DJ booths unsecured while they worked at night and we never had any issues.
We plan on updating the second floor in the future and plan on calling American Remodel! Pictures will be added asap.

It went great. Paul showed me the problems that he found under and around the windows. We discussed what to do and He fixed the problems. I mentioned some brick that looked to be hollow from water in the flowerbeds and Paul fixed the problem He was on time always and finished the job in a week. I will call him again if needed.

WE bought this apartment/town home and needed the Builders Report to be taken care of. Mr. Paul Pena, the company's owner, went over the report with us. He then submitted a written estimate for the repair cost within 2 days. We agreed to this and his company stated work the following day. The remodel did cost more and took longer than we estimated. The reason this happened was unexpected repairs. They were a condensation leak from the air conditioning unit that required new plumbing line and the replacement of rotted sheet rock, texture and new base boards. Then there was the damage found when we removed some kitchen cabinets. This was caused by the windows, over the kitchen/dining room, that had slipped down , due to rotting. So... the windows had to be repaired and sealed, then the sheet rock in the kitchen ceiling had to replaced and textured. We also decied to move the laundry connections from the 2nd floor bathroom down to the original laundry room. This also involved more sheet rock, texture and plumbing costs.Overall we could not be happier with the results. We also feel that we have made new friends with the owner and all of his helpers.
