We recently purchased a 100 year old bungalow that had sagging floors. I contacted Mark and he came out in a reasonable timeframe to evaluate the problem and provide an estimate. While there he educated me not only on what the problem was but also what I could expect from other contractors. Everything he said about the competition was true and Mark was substantial less than the competitors. The job is great, Mark was very concerned about minimizing the damage to the house from moving the floor up 2 1/2 inches. We couldn’t be happier. I highly recommend American Structural Services.

Mark and his guys came out and completed the first phase in several days. I had to go out of town for several weeks and Mark waited until I returned to complete the job and I couldn't be happier with the results and peace of mind that I felt in dealing with an honest and knowledgeable person.

Perfect.  This was Mark & team's third trip over 2 years - I had a very bad foundation in my 1926 Craftsman style house and asked Mark to break the work up into three phases so I could afford it.  This was the last phase.  Just like the last two times, they were prompt and courteous.  Mark takes the time to explain what they're going to do and how it's going.   <br /> The end result is excellent.  My house which once had almost 3" of sag is flat once again!  Cleanup was excellent.  I highly recommend them. <br />

We can't say enough good things about Mark, the owner. We recently purchased a frame home built in 1937 and shortly after purchase realized that the house had settled pretty significantly, more than our contractor originally thought. We called around for a few different quotes; one guy made us nervous about how much he really understood about the issue and the other, a friend of ours, was concerned it would be in the tens of thousands of dollars and take a month to complete. We called Mark because he is the highest rated here on Angie's List and we wanted someone who really knew what he was doing and had an honest reputation. He did not disappoint! He was actually already familiar with the property, having been out to give the previous owner a quote. He started work within a week and was done in a few days. The difference in the house is very noticeable, a marked difference from where we began and we feel very good about the quality of work he did. He stayed in touch with us through the whole process to make sure we understood how the work would affect the existing structure and to give us progress reports.  We really couldn't recommend him any higher, he inspires a lot of confidence that he knows what he is doing and he only does the work that needs to be performed. He could have added a lot of extra stuff that we didn't need to run up our bill; we were braced for a much higher-priced repair job and he was aware of that, but he runs an honest company and it shows. We definitely recommend you call Mark if you have any issues with your foundation! <br />

I emailed Mark through Angie's List. It took him a couple of days to respond which I have no issues with.  We spoke over the phone and scheduled an appointment that was convenient for both of us.  On the day of the appointment, he spoke with me regarding my foundation concerns and we did an interior walk-thru of my home. After we spoke at length, he went into the crawl space and thoroughly inspected the beams and piers. When he came out from the crawl space, we walked around the home and looked at the foundation together.  Mark knows foundations!  He suggested a support beam along a wall that was not being supported (this is where we could visually see the sag and feel the floor bouncy). He also suggested a support under one of the bathroom (this is where we could also see the sag).  He provided an estimate on the spot, one that we were satisfied with.  The next day Mark emailed us an estimate that we signed and agreed to.  We communicated with Mark thru text and made an appt to have the work done.  Mark came out did the work as discussed.  We had a small amount of cracking on the ceiling and door frame which can easily be patched up--Mark told us ahead of time that this would most likely happen. The area that he added the support beam now feels firm. I think it made a huge difference.  My husband and I are happy with the work and would definitely call Mark back if needed.  <br /> My home is a one-story 1952 ranch with a crawl space--approximately 1500 square feet. <br />

Overall, the project went very well.  Mark supervised the project personally to ensure a high quality, on-time project. <br />

<p>We had severe termite and water damage on a large structural beam on the side of our house. Mark came out, began the work, found out there was a lot more that needed to be done with this project (the whole huge beam was just falling apart) and took care of it without charging us any extra huge fees. </p> <p>He also climbed under our house a few times, looking for other potential issues that he could fix for us, gave a ton of advice, and will be back to put another "placeholder" beam in. Our house is almost 90 years old, so it needs a lot of work, but we know we have a great company here to rely on.  </p> <br />

<p>I would not hesitate to use American Structural Services again.  Mark is a thorough and nice guy with a polite crew.  I initially called another top-rated Angie's List provider and was shocked to get an estimate that was SEVEN times that of American Structural Services.  Please note that this other provider merely stuck his cellphone through a hole in the floor and only filmed the damage!  Mark crawled under my house in 90 degree heat to give me an accurate estimate.  Dirt and bugs don't scare him (rather a good trait in a foundation guy).  He is no frills and gets the job done.  </p> <br />

Mark is a very pleasant hard working owner that gets down and dirty with his crew. He came to my house and did a thorough walk-through, took some measurements with his laser, and crawled under the foundation himself. He knew that I was in a bit of a hurry to start work on my house and he was able to accommodate me within a week and a half. He ended up fixing, and replacing some of the columns and leveling the house the most he could. His estimate was very reasonable and came in lower than what others had quote me due in part to him not believing the work I was quoted by others was necessary at the moment. I feel pretty good about the job performed. The crew was very clean, and professional even going the extra mile and hauling some trash I had in the backyard, tossing the siding I no longer wanted, and even advised me about an open drainage I had. He got some tools and unscrewed the broken cap so I could easily place a new one. With Mark you get a very personable service, which make me wish he was an electrician, and a plumber as well because I would hire him in a minute. <br />

Mark was a good guy, he gave me my Angie list discount and then when I needed him to come back, through no fault of his, he gave me an even deeper discount because I was repeat business. I trust what he was doing and know my foundation is much more stable now than when I started. Unfortunately , I will probably have to have additional work done in the future but I know who I will be calling!

Mark was very responsive to my shortened time-frame for repairs due to selling my home. He was able to reinforce a sagging area of the floor with two piers and jacked up the home 1/2 to 3/4 inch on either side. Very professional and listened to my concerns and offered viable solutions to repair. Work was done in one day. I would highly recommend Mark based upon his professional knowledge and demeanor. <br />

It went very well. Mark is a very nice, conscientious person who takes pride in his work. He was punctual and did the job in a timely manner. We thought his fee was very reasonable considering the amount of hard work involved. He was nice enough to fit us in to his very busy schedule, because we needed the work done before the closing date on our house. We were slightly concerned about the possibility of cracks in the plaster wall as a result of the house being jacked up. But there was not a single sliver to be found. We highly recommend Mark and his assistant. <br />

It was a fantastic experience. <br /> I called Mark because I knew I needed foundation help.  The floor in my house runs to the middle, pretty much from all directions.  I had been in the crawlspace enough to know that it was likely to be a significant effort.  <br /> Mark came and evaluated my property, worked out an estimate for the entire job.  When I decided I couldn't tackle it all with one check and asked him to see about doing it in two or three pieces, he obliged and made a recommendation on an approach to tackle the most severe concerns first. <br /> This effort is what I would call phase one of what I hope is two phases.  In this phase they completely removed and replaced the piles across the back of my house and up a ways on one side.  These piles all had a significant lean, which caused them to appear to be close to falling over. <br /> Mark's plan and estimate included evaluation of existing piers and reuse, with a fee associated with any pier that could not be reused. They jacked up the back of my house, dug out the old piers, showed me what the found and their recommendation, which was to replace.  I had to agree as they were in pretty bad shape. <br /> Upon completion of the work the back of the house is now level and I'm resting comfortably knowing that they aren't about to fall over.  In reflection, I can't believe how fast they worked and how much the accomplished each day.  Better, Mark took the time throughout the job to keep me informed and share what they were seeing. <br /> Bonus: <br /> Mark suggested that some of the lean may have been caused by the drainage in my yard, which had been altered by a prior owner about ten years ago.  He offered to come back with a load of dirt, and did so about a week later, to build a swale to help direct the water away from the house (and foundation). <br /> Bottom line: <br /> I'm saving my nickles to get the rest of the house corrected so that I can finally start thinking about replacing these 90 year old windows.  You can bet that I'll be back to American Structural Services once my pile of nickels is enough to do the rest of the job. <br />

So far so good. The owner, Mark Wendell, and his crew finished the job in one day. The job was done neatly as well. I used American Structural before for another drainage problem and would highly recommend their services. <br />

Mr. Wendel was very prompt in responding to my initial phone call. Came all the way down from Largo to Sarasota the very next day. I liked his manner -- very friendly, but focused almost entirely on business. I could tell right away he knew what he was talking about. Great to meet a real no-nonsense guy who wasn't trying to seduce or scare me into paying for a lot of unnecessary extras. <br /> He came to do the work more than a week earlier than planned after asking me if that would be all right. Naturally, I was delighted. He completed the work very neatly in just one day, and was kind enough to charge me less than I had anticipated, because things had gone more smoothly than either of us had expected.  I thought that more than decent of him. Others who bid on the job told me there would be extensive interior damage. Mr. Wendel did what was necessary for a litle more than half of what others sought to charge. <br /> We got along so well I have invited him to bring Mrs. Wendel to Sarasota to have dinner with me at my expense, if they would like. <br /> I believe one of the reasons things went so well was that I understood the problem, and was able to tell him exactly what was needed, and what I hoped we could achieve. <br />

It went well. Mark was punctual and took a great deal of time to discuss the job with me and my options. <br />

We can't say enough good things about Mark and his staff. We felt at home with Mark from the time he first came to talk to us about what we wanted to do.  He took pains to understand that we didn't want to level the home back to its original 1926 condition, but to assure that no further settling occurred. In the end he recommended that we actually raise several areas by about a 1/2 inch and install additional supports since the homes built then generally had one main beam down the middle, just as ours does.  Over the years, natural settling, the weight of interior walls, our second floor, and heavy granite countertops had caused gradual dips between the center support beam and the exterior walls.  He was punctual for our first appointment and appeared with his crew just when promised to do the work. He was under the home with his crew and continuously checked with us concerning our satisfaction after the installation of each beam and checked all doors above the new beams to make sure all operated properly. The floor is now more firm underfoot and the "doming/cresting/crowning" of the floor in one of the rooms has been visibly reduced.  Fantastic! <br /> The amount of knowledge Mark has about moving buildings and adding support to structures is truly amazing! Having him present on the job was certainly an additional plus.  These type of repairs are expensive and require certain technical skills that most people obviously don't have. Finding the right contractor is certainly the most important thing. We are so pleased that we found American Structural on Angie's list and found that his straight A rating is well deserved. <br /> <br />

While cleaning my cement garage pad I pointed my water hose at a crack that had appeared between my wall footings and the floor, and water flowed into that crack and never filled up.  I feared the worse -- foundation damage or the start of a sink hole. About three hours after I called, Miked showed up and told me I had nothing to fear.  The "floating" garage floor was designed that way and that crackes along the walls were normal.  He inspected my entire foundation and told me everything was then, then he gave me pointers about how I could divert water away from my foundation to prevent water damage from the rain the pours from the roof during downpours.  In all, he spent nearly an hour at my home.  I know that if I ever need foundation repair, Mike's the person I'd call because he's personable and knows his business. <br />

Mark installed extra support beams in between the main beam which ran down the middle of the house and the sides. The goal was to stabilize the structure, ensure that it could take the extra load of built in book shelving, and correct and stabilize the sagging in the kitchen, while making sure that the correction was not so much as to cause cracks in the walls to form (the kitchen floor ended up being lifted by about 3/4"). This work was performed before I moved in. Because I had to move out of my old house by a certain date, Mark was able to accommodate my schedule by working through the weekend, and at the same time as my wood floors were getting sanded and refinished. Overall I was very pleased with Mark's work. The change in the kitchen floor was noticeable. This is not an inexpensive service, but overall I thought it was well worth it to correct, giving me the piece of mind that this old house has a properly supporting foundation.
