Except for numerous meetings with Chuck and/or his manager regarding details, the total experience was a plus... from providing estimate to job completion. We had two bathrooms totally remodeled (one at a time) which took about 3 weeks. Hallways and adjacent rooms were well protected from dust and debris by Rick and his team as they worked, and complete cleanup was provided at the end of each day... nothing left behind except in the room in which they were working. My wife and I felt comfortable leaving our home each day to conduct various activities. Excellent finished project!
Once the work began, Rick & his crew did adequate work & showed up most days at 7 AM. There were several days that they were late without a phone call & 1 day that they did not show up without a phone call. Issues with their work were corrected immediately upon speaking to Rick. In fact we were so happy with Rick that we decided to have hardwood floors installed by him.
Issues with this project were with Chuck?s office manager who continued to request payment early so that they could ?make payroll?. She also submitted bills to us for materials required for the completion of the job. When questioned for documentation of the purchases that were covered in the contract, she provided numerous cash register receipts from Lowe?s. When questioned further she provided a verbal explanation of purchases that were again covered in the contract. Chuck was not available due to one of his many illnesses. Once Chuck became available, the matter was resolved to our satisfaction.
The next and more serious issue with the project was the electrician did not install GFI?s on any of the outlets in the bathrooms a violation of building codes making it impossible for us to sell our house until the violation would be corrected. Even worse this violation exposed my family to possible electrocution. After numerous requests to Rick & Chuck he sent his usual electrician over to correct the violation, he did not perform the original wiring because he was sick.
At this time we were satisfied with the work performed, that all issues were addressed to our satisfaction, & the fact that Chuck advised us that his office manager was fired.
When we wanted to have our hall and den painted, ceiling cracks repaired, fireplace resurfaced and converted to a gas fireplace, we called Chuck to perform the work.
Rick and his crew completed the painting in a timely fashion, however the cracks repaired reappeared within 2 weeks. After speaking to Chuck numerous times requesting these be repaired as promised, & a complaint to BBB the repairs are started but still not completed as of today.
Once the painting was completed the stone mason was supposed to come & resurface the fireplace. After about a month I called Chuck and requested an update, Chuck advised that he was sick and would call him to see if he was well enough to schedule the job.
The stonemason was supposed to show up at 8 AM on a Monday morning & never showed. Chuck responded to a text asking where he was by stating he is buying materials and would be there by 10 AM. He did finally show up around 1PM and dumped about a ton and a half of stones in my driveway blocking both cars in the garage. Chuck did send his crew over that evening to move the stones, and the mason began work the next day.
The stonemason had total disregard for my home. He did not bother covering anything & dust went everywhere, when asked why he was not using a drop cloth he responded ?Chuck did not give me any?, he mixed and spilled mortar/cement on the steps leading into the den then covered the spill up with a piece of carpet, required a spotlight so that he could see in the hearth breaking it and not saying a thing about it, just placing it back in the sunroom. The dust from cutting stones inside the house despite the fact that the den leads directly to the outside, was so bad that it required a trip to the ER for my wife, in addition there was concrete mix dust all over my yard killing large patches of grass..
Since the job was completed I have had several different contractors in to bid on renovating our kitchen . Comments on the work performed by the stone mason range from ?if you did not know how to do that you should have called me? to ?well that is definitely not the way I would have done it?.
When I complained to Chuck he did send his crew over to clean the den of the mess, however, all my furniture had to be cleaned, at my expense.
With the fireplace resurfacing complete, it was time for the installation of the gas fireplace. Chuck advised that his sub was sick and his work was backed up, & a date for him to come by which he never showed up for. Chuck rescheduled a day & showed up with the sub?s workers who stated they had no idea how to do the job and that the boss would have to come out that afternoon. Surprisingly enough, he never showed up or called to reschedule, he just showed up at my door at 8 AM the next morning, I refused him access to my house.
Since over a month had passed, I decided to perform some research on gas fireplaces since my confidence in Chuck and his sub had declined. I found that the recommendation before installing a gas fireplace into an existing chimney was to have the chimney cleaned before installation. When I questioned Chuck about this he stated that he did not know this & would look for a chimney cleaner.
While waiting my wife and I decided that we could not trust this sub-contractor whose employees do not know how to run a gas line and a main contractor who did not know that the chimney needed to be cleaned to prevent poisonous fumes from entering the house . Chuck called us numerous times over the next several weeks assuring the job would be safe & completed to our satisfaction, then attempting to convince us to install an electric fire place. Based on the electrical work performed by the original electrician in the bathrooms, we opted to remove the fireplace from the contract since we would never use it for safety reasons. Just a note, the gas logs are still sitting in my fireplace, almost eight months after they were dropped off and removed from their box by the stone mason.
Over the next several months we attempted to get Chuck to schedule his crew (he stated that Albert was better at mudding than Rick) without result. This prompted me to file a complaint with the BBB, which got Chuck?s attention & resulted in meeting with him in September 2014. At the meeting he signed an agreement to install replacement windows in the sun room, repair the faulty work on the ceilings and install a screen door on our front door. He did return to measure the windows, then had to return to remeasure because he lost the measurements.
On November 9, 2014, we returned from a trip to Florida and texted Chuck for an update. He responded that he would come by on Wednesday the 11th to explain how he was going to do the windows and that the ceiling repair would be completed then. He did show but his crew did not.
Chuck claims to have left me several messages from then to January, and there was 1 voice mail that floated around cyberspace for several days before it popped up on my phone, & I immediately texted him. If indeed Chuck did leave messages on my cell or home phone that were not responded to why did he not call the second number that he has.
When I responded to this message we set an appointment for his folks to come by and complete the work as promised in September to close the BBB complaint out. He cancelled this meeting due to snow, the only time he has ever had the courtesy to let me know he was not showing up for an appointment.
The meeting was scheduled for January 26 for the late morning. Once again he never showed up, once again not having the courtesy to call and cancel, when texted at 6 PM he responded that he was sick again. He offered to come the next day but we had plans for the next 2 days that we were hesitant to cancel due to his history of not showing for appointments. We did schedule a meeting for January 30 that he actually showed up for. We discussed the windows in the sunroom which he promised to return on Monday February 1 with the contract, and that Rick would be here February 4 to repair the ceilings. When reminded that he stated that Albert was better at mudding than Rick, he stated that Albert would be here on February 4 in the late afternoon or early evening.
Chuck never showed or called on February 1 nor did Albert on the 4th.
Having

My first review was done on 4/1/14. Since then we have contacted Chuck to get some minor repairs completed. We also had an issue with the room settling and creating cracks in the walls and ceiling. We have made several attempts to get them to come out and complete our job. We were told that they have a 10 Year warranty. They give us a date to come and work on completing open issues and do not show and do not call. This has happend more than 6 times in the past year. This is very frustsrating because I have been required to work 7 days a week and i have several others tasks to complete on my off time besides waiting for someone that will not call or show.

We moved into Providence Country Club-Charlotte in January. We bought the home knowing it needed some serious updates. Our goal was to first remodel the Master Bathroom, Paint the interior walls, and put hardwood in the Master Bathroom We had a budget in mind and did not want to go above that. So we went on Angies list to get five quotes. Some of quotes that we received were ridiculously high. Based on the fact that Chuck, owner, at Americas Home Choice was so quick to respond...as he did throughout the project. Chuck not only came in a great price but He shared with us ideas on how we can save money. WOW...Finally an honest contractor!!! I had people with bids 300% higher than Americas Home Choice. When we met Chuck we were very pleased how experienced he and his crew were. Chuck always respected our budget and our ideas.
I work quite a bit but my wife stays at home during the day. Since Chuck's crew would be in and out of my house without me there, I was nervous about a crew of guys i never met and hoped my Wife felt comfortable around them. To answer, Chuck crew was the best. They were the most respectful and professional and I have ever worked with. Rick, the Floorman, was incredible and build a house from scratch. What nice guy! Davey and Tommy were super as well. Great things is Chuck doesn't use subcontractors...THEY DO IT ALL!
Our Master Bathroom came out beautiful. It is amazing how they transformed it into an oasis. Our cabinets are awesome. His quality of paint work made the inside of our house look new. Chuck and his crew could not have been better. If we saw something we didn't like, Rick would be at our house to correct within a week.
We are excited to do more projects in our new house! Chuck with Americas Choice Contractors will be the only on we call!!!

Rick (Chuck's 'foreman' for our project) and his team not only preformed quality work, they also completed a quality clean up each day. Something that really helped impress us.
As with any project of this size, they did find some additional work that needed to be done. This included a major construction flaw that should have been identified by a previous siding/roofing contractor.Chuck and his team recommended solutions to this problem that in the end enhanced the overall quality and look of the work.
Overall, the work progressed as planned and we are very pleased with the results. We love to show the finished work to our friends and neighbors. Unfortunately, it appears we can not post pictures with our review. :(
They did a good job. The workers were courteous. We made "punch" lists but some items were still not fixed. We would have liked the construction to be done earlier than what it was. They were more than happy to perform extra add ons that we encountered during construction and gave good ideas that we did not think about that helps us out.
Since my original review i have contacted Chuck several times to get some small issues corrected. He stated that his work comes with a 10 year Guarantee We had an issue with our new room settling and they had to come and fix cracks in the walls and ceiling and add extra reinforcements under the house. We have made several appointments for them to come and fix other issue and they do not call or show. This has happened more than 6 times in the past year. I will not leave my house unlocked so they can come and go at will, so I will take the blame for one of these occurances. We have taken pictures of the issues that we have and they have showed up on several occasions without supplies.

Project overall went very well and is beautiful. This was an extensive remodel that consisted of removing a weight bearing wall and enclosing walls as well as moving everything around to have open huge 50' granite bar. Chuck and his people are great and very much want customer to be pleased...even willing to redo things if it's not exactly how customer wants it. Chuck had unexpected heart surgery right as we started that put him out of circuit for a few weeks, which created a little extra work for me, however, he has such great people working for him that I was still able to get everything I wanted without him having to be as involved as I'm sure he would have liked. Their workmanship is high quality.

I cannot say enough great things about Chuck! One of the nicest and most honest contractors I have ever worked with (and I have been in real estate for years, still have 4 rental properties in Charlotte). Always prompt, friendly, and very helpful - genuinely cared about us and our project! And I am NOT the easiest guy to please (just ask Chuck!!! ha). Anyway, he helped us design the new kitchen/eating area (completely different than our original thoughts - and he made the kitchen twice as efficient and feel twice as big!), we went back and forth (conveniently, via email) all the layouts until we were happy. He came over to our house (in Charlotte) with cabinet, tile and granite samples....and spent an hour with us as we tried out different combinations. Once the work began, he sent us before, during, and after pictures as work progressed. This was especially helpful since we did not live there (our vacation home in Shelby). Even when we thought of things "after the fact" (can you add outlets to the island? How about under counter lights? A pull-out cabinet for pots and pans? etc) - he was absolutely accommodating, and for the items that cost extra, he simply charged us the extra labor and materials...did not gouge us as some guys try to do.....and some changes, he even said "no problem, no charge" and it was done! So, here are the two KEY reasons I would recommend Chuck and his guys to ANYONE. First, when my folks came down to visit, my father (who built multi-million dollar houses in Connecticut) got down on his hands and knees to check out the attention to detail - how the cabinets met the appliances, the shoe molding, etc etc and was VERY IMPRESSED. (And if you think I am hard to please...!!!) And the second reason is that when we had a few small glitches a few weeks after the work was done (there is always something)....his guys came out within 24 hours and fixed everything to our complete satisfaction. I will say that he was toward the higher end of the quotes we received....but as they say, "you get what you pay for" and I would absolutely use Chuck again, and recommend him to anyone!!!
America?s Choice Contractors remodeled our kitchen in April
2013. What a fantastic job!
I can?t say enough good things about this fine group of
professionals. Chuck Rhoden and his crew, Rick, Tommy and Davey were a pleasure
to work with. Chuck met with us many times during the planning of our project
offering suggestions and answering our questions. He even took the time to meet
with us at supplier?s locations to advise us regarding quality materials to
achieve the durability and good looks we achieved in our new kitchen.
Chuck was great and proved to be an honest and dedicated
professional. Chuck?s crew Rick, Tommy,
and Davey treated us and our home with the upmost respect and concern. Their
professionalism not only shows in their work, but also in their punctuality and
attention to every detail. It was apparent that their goal of a beautiful
kitchen was as important to them as it was to us.
Chuck Rhoden, owner of America?s Choice Contractors, directs
his company in a way that shows his love for his work, his employees, and his
customers. Because of this, we would not
hesitate to use America?s Choice Contractors again and we plan to do so in the
near future. We trust them completely and look forward to our next project. I
would rate America?s Choice a Five Star Organization and would recommend them
without reservation.

They did a good job. Were thoughtful and went the extra mile. They helped me move furniture at no charge and help with some painting. They were better at the floors then painting. With the painting, they did not sand down the rough spots so I was not happy about that. With the floors I was really pleased with them. They gave me a good price.

After the insurance inspection, I gave the job to America's Choice. The work was done very quickly, very professionally, and under budget. As they were taking down the old roof, the debris was continually picked up - at the end of each day you would not have been able to tell any work was going on due to their end-of-day cleanup. Where the rain water had entered the attic, they removed the wet insulation, laid down anti-mold protection, and added new insulation. All the inside water-damage repair work was done in such a way that you could not even tell there haad been damage - in fact, it looks better than before. I cannot comment enough on the terrific job the team did - from advising on how to move forward with the insurance company, to shingle color and composition advice, to the daily cleanup, to a spectacular finished job. They even came back for a minor repair to the solar panel that wasn't even their doing - it was pre-existing! They also showed true craftsmanship in rebuilding a 20 year old cupula wiht windvane that had rotted over the last 20 years - it, too, looks better than new. America's Choice is definitely our choice for any repair or remodeling work we will ever need done.
Chuck and his crew were great to work with.
We had the America's Choice team remodel our master bath and guest bath, as well as paint a few rooms in our home. They were prompt, courteous, and helpful when it came to design choices. We were probably a pain to deal with since we were making so many choices as first time home owners, but Chuck and Rick were more than accommodating. With so many choices to make (tile, paint, finishes, etc.) they were able to give us a lot of helpful advice when we were a little lost. When we needed to make a change they did what needed to be done to finish the job. Their prices were good, but the work was top notch.
We will definitely be using Chuck and his crew again.

I discovered electric outlet had no power after removal of 2nd counter top level, after it was finished and ready for countertop install.
The new faucet was damaged and would not swivel but they installed it anyway and tried to con me into thinking thats the way they worked with a single sink. They finally bought a new one, then they installed it with grey plumbers putty which appeared as a large grey band around the base and the faucet and 'granite' were dark brown and it looked hideous. I had to seal it properly myself with brown silicon because I was getting tired of their foolishness.
They reused old sink drain pvc pipe which I found to be leaking, they finally bought new pipe and drain trap.
They used the old chrome sink drain in a dark brown sink when I had already showed them there was a new sink drain colored brown and left it on the counter top, of which I discovered.
The gas line to the stove was too high, which I discovered myself, the pan drawer would not close and I took it upon myself to cut the pipe back and install a closer fitting yet I still had to cut out the sheet metal from the back of the stove to push the stove all the way against the wall.
The new gas pipe had three holes left unchalked on the outside which could have allowed rain to enter inside the wall.
The board above the dishwasher door and below countertop which is used to screw the dishwasher in came loose, and I repaired that myself with liquid nail.
There was a chip out of the new granite back splash which I discovered, which was replaced by the granite folks and there was a seam not chalked which I found and which was repaired by the granite installers.
The granite was installed and then they finished a drywall wall which looks stupid as a corner of it sits on top the granite and will probably chip as time goes by, who would build a drywall corner to actually rest over and on top granite counter top? They should have done the wall and then cut the granite to fit against the wall.
The new bottom board installed in sink cabinet had big gaps which looked hideous and had to be filled in with chalk, his excuse was the cabinet was crooked and he didn't check before making his cut. I wanted a new cabinet but was talked into the repair and I had to paint the raw plywood board myself.
I got so sick and tired of finding clear errors and tired of them being in my home and tired of leaving the door unlocked and they don't show up. After it was all done, I felt like it was I who was the contractor, making sure the job was done correctly and decently.
It really destroyed the joy of having a new granite counter top and long awaited for gas service to our two new appliances.
Everything is OK now except I cannot stand the way they placed the drywall corner sitting on top the counter.
Hire these guys at your own risk! Great price but even if you clearly define the required work and even rework their contract yourself to make all the details clear, they may well not do it the way you need it done.
PS: the gas line work and the counter tops where two separate companies American brought in, all the other terrible work was the brother.
What made this job unique was that we purchased the house end of May as part of a relocation from Texas, and were not actually moving in until July 21. All the renovation and remodeling had to be done without our direct supervision and only limited visits to the area. Trust in the contractor was critical because of this, but we didn't know any contractors in this area so we had to rely solely on the Angie's list recommendations. America's Choice came through with flying colors. Chuck was forthright and honest - almost to a fault. His crew perormed quality work - doing things like laying cement board underlayment for the kitchen floor with 6" screws that are now covered with ceramic tile. A cheaper, lower quality method could have been used and we would have never known it; but this level of quality means a floor that is going to last the life of the house without problem. Even the little things were done with an eye to craftsmanship and artisanship: multiple coats of spackle to cover drywall nail holes and seams so that now the painted walls are flawless. Mitered corner joints that show no gaps or mis-joints. Cabinet doors (over forty in the kitchen alone) that are perfectly aligned and open/close whisper-quiet. Every appliance working right to specs. After work every day, the work area was cleaned up and all trash hauled away. The job was completed on-time, on-budget, and absolutely right. Our end-of-project punchlist contained only 6 items that needed to be finished up (and 3 of these were last-minute details that could not be foreseen during the project). Even things that were "wrong" with the house that America's Choice had nothing to do with were fixed and made right. Bottom line: we are absolutely thrilled with the results, and have a house that our new neighrbors (without exception) have commented very favorably on. We heartily recommend America's Choice to anyone considering having work done on thier house - you will be dealing with guys of integrity, craftsmanship, and a high work ethic.

Joey came and looked at both bathrooms and did a quote that same day. Came the following week (after we agreed on a price) and did a complete gut and remodel of our master bathroom. We had a clue, but a little unsure as to how we wanted it to look and Rick was fantastic in his ideas and suggestions on designing the bathroom. The guys were always punctual and would clean the floors (even down the hallways and main traffic areas) before they left.
We had one issue with a leaking shower facet, but they came the same day after I told them about the incident. Definitely plan on using them again as soon as we can for the other bathrooms.
