Drain Clog or Blockage Clearing
We had a blockage in our drain pipes and we feared it was going to cost thousands of dollars to repair. James came right away, found the blockage and was able to clear the pipes in a couple of hours. He also identified the cause, a bow in the pvc leaving the house which we had fixed. It’s been six months and we’ve had no issues. I would highly recommend Snchor Sewer and Drain Cleaning.

James was extremely responsive. He was able to come over an hour after we called and it was a Sunday! He was very knowledgeable and knew exactly where to start investigating the issue. He explained everything to my husband and I and showed us exactly where the clog was. James fixed the problem and made sure to clean everything up before he left. He told us how to avoid this in the future and how to maintain the pipes moving forward. James was in a good mood and had a great personality. He made the stressful situation feel a lot better. I would highly recommend using him. He is honest and his prices are extremely fair. He really wants to help you and not just take your money (like most other contractors). I will definitely use him again if I need service again!

<p>Our main sewer line is PVC up to the curb where it turns to clay. Because water was backed up, he couldn't use the jet to clean so he started with a cable, but the cable could not get to the clay part because of an offset of the lines. he got a camera to ***** and showed me and explained everything he saw. Once water moved, he brought in the jet and with the assistance of the camera, removed all the roots in the line. The root clogs were really bad and he took his time to make sure all were gone. Showed me the line once it was clean as well, no roots left. He advised me of my options, how I can treat the line for roots with a foaming root killer and optionally invest in a new line to rid of the problem altogether. James was a pleasure to have, very polite, down to earth. Talked to my kids about chess and TV shows while working, very patient. left the place very clean when work was completed. He got himself a new happy customer and will be using his services whenever I need drain/sewer work.</p>

"I am very happy to have left you with a functional sewer line. Many sewer lines I thoroughly work on to clear are brought to optimum condition. However, the number of off-sets and type of material the sewer line is made from ultimately lead to a need to replace the sewer. We are able to see your sewer line is fully functional and will require nothing more than some routine maintenance. Use the root treatment as often as you like as long as you are introducing it at least 2 times a year. Have a video inspection done this time next year to see how the roots are responding. As for whether you replace the sewer line or not, that is expensive and you will want to weigh your long term goals. The sewer has been replaced up to the curb, using pvc pipe. The original material used which completes the sewer line from the curb to the street is clay. There is more of a likelihood for the sewer line to fail in the street at some point, than there is with the pvc sewer material. However, there is no way we can know when that will happen. A collapse or cracking of the vitrified clay pipe may not happen in the time you and your family live in the house. In summary, it appears root intrusion coming from the pine tree across the street and the off-set between the clay pipe and the pvc pipe are the only issues you should be mindful of. Thank you for the help you gave me in getting set up to work. Your family is very considerate and hospitable. I am certain I will always feel very comfortable working in your home."

I called on Monday afternoon and he said he could be out that night. With inclement weather, I told him it really wasn't urgent and anytime that week was fine. He was out the next morning, explained what he was going to do, even showed me a little about how the equipment works, gave me advice about how I could avoid the same problem and even how I could do it myself in the future if I would rather. He was very professional, cleaned the area well, and was very efficient and fast. I would recommend him for any drainage or sewer issues. He was also recommended to me initially through my regular plumber who I have used for the past 15+ years.

James cleaned the leach lines by hydro jetting and using some DEP approved chemicals. To continue treatment and full restoration of the soil in the leach field, we installed a Pirana Aerobic Bacteria Generator. We also installed a new distribution box. The septic system is still continuing to function.

I had a slow kitchen sink drain that was backing up. I was convinced the dry well that the sink drains to was failing. It has an unknown history and location. We moved in not so long ago and weren't even aware that it didn't drain to the main septic. James came in, assessed the situation and recommended we jet out the drain to the dry well before we do anything major. It worked! An hour in and out and the work was done. I had expected to completely redirect the drain into the main septic, which would have been a bigger and more expensive job. James is completely down to earth, easy to talk to and work with. Before he even came out, we spent a solid 10 minutes on the phone discussing the possibilities. Highly recommend. Competent, fair, trustworthy.

I was very impressed with how he explained everything, performed the work and kept us informed with what was going on. I was able to watch everything and he followed the outline he gave us exactly. He was very knowledgeable and even offered much advice for a second house of mine that has a failing septic system. See their web site which lists all the types of work they perform with all the information that he was telling me personally. I would definitely use him again and certainly recommend him to anyone else. Note, that he will give a discount to Angie's List members, in our case 15%. The $400 charge, listed somewhere above, does not include the discount. <br /> <br /> The following is a detailed account of what Jim did at our house for, I think, a typical badly blocked sewer line. <br /> We contacted Anchor Sewer and Drain Cleaning in order to fix an apparent blocked main sewer line exiting the house. <br /> The blockage was causing the water to back up and come into the cellar via holes in the vent pipe. The house was built in the 1930's so the pipes are very old and fragile. <br /> We called about 8:30 AM and were pleasantly surprised that he could come that same day at 11:00 AM. He arrived on time at 11:00 AM. <br /> Prior to the work being performed, he gave us prices for fixing the problem based on a couple of possible scenarios, dependent upon what he might find. <br /> He also explained what each solution would entail and how long it might take. (3 hours in our case) <br /> He was very careful getting the old main cap off the sewer line, which was stuck on, without breaking any of the old pipes. <br /> Once access was obtained he used a specialized hose to pressurize the line to try to "blow out" any clog. However, this was not enough to fix the problem. <br /> The next step was to use the electric "rooter" to cut through all the years of old sludge built up in the horizontal pipes and to cut any roots that might have gotten in over the last 80 years (which, it turns out we had). The rooter is a 200 pound machine that he had to get down the steep outside cellar stairs. It is an electric powered device with rotating cutters that clean the sewer and literally cut roots. The rooting was necessarily a slow process in our case as it was hitting blockages along the way that required slow going. He also had to negotiate joints in pipes that caused the machine to hang up. In the end, he was able to root the whole 90 feet to the town sewer. <br /> Jim indicated that he always uses his "scope" to verify the success of the rooting process, which may not be performed by other companies, without an additional charge. This is a great device that clearly shows the inside of the pipe visually on the color screen (6" x 8" maybe?) of a portable device connected to the scope cable. In our case it showed a (now) very clean pipe with the remnants of very fine roots in the first 15 feet of pipe. (These were attended to last). The scope software also displays the current distance of the scope head to the house. Using the "scope" he was also able to identify a problem with the town's sewer that was not emptying properly and told us to notify the town. <br /> The last step was to explain how to use a chemical, periodically, to kill the cut roots and to prevent future root growth. This is simply a foaming chemical that is applied through the toilet. He gave us the first treatment which we immediately applied. <br /> Again, I recommend Anchor Sewer and Drain Cleaning for anyone else. <br />

I was not aware you were impressed. Your demeanor is very even. I want to you to know, I really appreciate all of the help you gave me and your willing spirit to take initiative to give assistance. It is really appreciated. However, I have to keep you safe and therefore, can not allow you to participate in a lot of what I was doing there. For instance, you were very considerate in wanting to clear the end of the stair way. However, I had the machine on the stairs at the time. I have dropped that machine, twice going down stairs. So, I had to express the urgency for you to not be at the end of the stairs. Thanks for understanding. I'm hopeful the sewer line will respond well to root treatment. Please use the root control as often as you feel you want to. There is no such thing as "over using" the foaming root control. You can find it at Ace Hardware Stores. Here is my wife's review of James's service on yelp, to which I would only add that James was as honest, trustworthy, friendly, and knowledgeable a plumber as you could hope to meet. He's a gem! <br /> <br /> I can't say enough good things about James. He's an incredibly nice person, very thorough and reasonably priced, and he really takes the time to explain what you're dealing with in a situation, not to mention checking back in to make sure all is hanging together well. But I really owe him for his help when we were dealing with a burst pipe last winter in the bitter weather. I was on my own with my toddler, completely freaking out at the quantity of water coming apparently out of nowhere, and unable to find an available local plumber. James took my call, talked me down, helped me switch off the water, and tracked down another local plumber to help me out within minutes. It's very rare to find someone who's so concerned about their work and the well-being of their clients. I hope not to have to use him too often, but when I do (sewer situation aside!), it's a pleasure. <br />

James was very considerate, professional and thorough. He even helped me hook up my dryer ventilation duct, retrieving supplies from his truck to finish that job too! I am pleased to find your bath tub drain is functioning properly and I had the material on the truck needed to make the connection for your dryer vent piping. Once the appliance company comes in to move the stackable dryer/washing machine system closer to the wall, have them loosen the clamp closest to the outside wall. This will allow the pipe to pivot why adjustments are being made. Also, be sure they use a 5/16" nut driver to tighten the clamp once they have finished."
