The first thing I noticed (and liked) about Arbormax was the line on their website: "Four Generations of Hugging and Caring for Trees". These folks aren't just "tree cutters". Their list of certifications and training was as impressive as their equipment inventory. They know about trees, not just how to cut one down. In fact, in my first experience with them, the estimator said they'd do the job, but that it didn't look like I really needed the tree(s) removed. Imagine a business with that kind of honesty. So, when I did need help this month...a huge pine gave in to high winds, taking out two sections of two different neighbors' fences...I didn't bother calling anyone else. With the storm's widespread damage, I was surprised to get right through - to a human, not a recording. While their crews were concentrating first on calls where homes were damaged, an appointment was set for just after Christmas weekend. My next surprise - the fellow who came out was the company's owner. With his knowledge about insurance companies (ick), and family budgets, he was still able to offer a price far lower than I expected. We agreed on a hand-shake (no forms to fill out or approval to wait for), and within half an hour, saws were buzzing, trunk sections were removed, branches were picked up and cleared. Today, one of the neighbors phoned to thank me for the way things were handled, and said she'd asked the Arbormax crew for a business card so she could schedule some projects of her own! Obviously, I can't say enough good things about Tim and his "arborists". But I'll stop here and make room for the next satisfied customer.

A huge tree fell on the back of my house during a storm a few nights ago. Ripping our metal roof, taking off the gutters, fascia and soffits. My insurance company put out a quick response call to their field of first responders and Arbormax Tree Services responded within minutes. They arranged for their arborist to be at our house first thing the next morning to assess the damage and how to best proceed with removal and clean up. The arborist / owner Tim Robbins could not have been more professional. Tim has numerous professional certifications and we found his knowledge about tree health and placement quite helpful. He took the time to explain why that tree fell on our house. While on site Tim contacted his team and made arrangements for the team to arrive following morning. Bright and early we had a full professional crew and all the equipment they needed out here to remove the tree. Everyone on the Arbormax team did a great job removing the tree from the house, cutting it up, and cleaning up the branches and sticks. They were experienced, efficient, available for any questions, and put safety first. They were an impressive, cohesive team. I highly recommend Arbormax, and will be happy to call them for all my tree work in the future. J. White

I recently used Arbormax for the third time to take care of a large limb that had fallen during a storm and was stuck in our very large oak tree. They responded to my late night call immediately the next morning and came by that same day to assess the damage. As the fallen limb posed danger to pedestrians they took care of the pruning the next day! Excellent and reliable service! Would highly recommend!

Arbormax to the rescue! Tyler came to assess the downed limb, and the limbs below that it was stressing and advised on removing the limb below the snapped limb as well. The crew went to work and had the limbs down, cut up and carted off into their truck in seemingly no time. Since the limb was partially in our street, they used a blower to get all remaining debris off of the road. I appreciate how quickly Arbormax was able to schedule us in less than two days after such a wicked storm as I'm sure we were not the only folks who had damaged trees. Arbormax is in my phonebook for easy access. They always know their stuff on what to do on both the aesthetics as well as the health of the tree.

We had some unwanted branches that overhung our fence, and a tree we wanted removed. Arbormax came out gave us a quote for a price we really liked, and did this job so quickly and told us everything we needed to know about the process of how they were doing it. We chose not to have our stumps ground but they do offer that service. They satisfied all of our needs and more with great respect and service!

I needed to have 8 very old and halfway dead Redbud trees removed on one side of my yard. On the other side of my yard I had two very healthy trees that needed to be pruned a good 10 feet away from the house. Timothy and his team were efficient, talented and skilled. They were mindful of the shared fencing between me and my neighbor and it remained unharmed (the row of 8 redbuds were about 4 feet away from the fenceline and most of the trees were severely hanging over both sides of the fence) The cleanup of the trees was great, nary a limb was left behind, although you can have it chip mulched in place if you like, but it would not work where they all were, so they chipped it into their huge truck. I chose to not have the stumps ground, but they do have a stump grinder if you want to do that for aesthetics. The tree pruning was well done. I have a large sugar maple in my front yard that is a vigorous grower and the branches were touching the roof so they pruned back 10 feet. Similar was done to an oak in my back yard. I'm again tickled pink with Arbormax Tree Service. This was my fourth job with the company. They are simply my go-to company.

Poorly. The crew was poorly supervised and didn't listen to the foreman. All of my communications had to be through the foreman, since I didn't speak Spanish. They convinced me that certain limbs shouldn't be cut, then proceeded to cut them. I asked them to keep out certain logs (not haul them away) - the instructions didn't get passed down to the crew and the logs were buried on the truck....they wouldn't pull them out. In backing the truck down the driveway, they drove into the grass and damaged the lawn (ruts). They dragged logs across the lawn and created more ruts. Their chipper had hydraulic fluid leaking and stained the driveway.
Response from Arbormax Tree Service- Greensboro
"Greetings Mr, [Member Name Removed], We are very disappointed to hear about your experience with our company. We strive to make sure every client is completely satisfied with every part of our service. Our communication, price and the quality of our work are usually second to none. We are wholeheartedly disappointed that you did not receive the level of service that we try to give to everyone. Reviewing the notes it looks like our operations manager had another piece of wood specially delivered to you to make up for the piece that was taken by mistake. If that piece is not sufficient please call us and we would be more than happy to deliver you as many pieces as you like at no charge. In reference to the pruning, the climber noticed defects (included bark in the branch union) in the limbs and made cuts to ensure the health and longevity of the tree. All of the pruning that our certified arborists perform adhere to certain standards and meet requirements set forth by ANSI and ISA and no cuts that are made will harm the tree. I promise if the arborist cut an additional limb it was for the health and safety of the tree. They always keep the trees best interest in mind and do as little as they have to. I must say that your comment about not speaking English is baffling to us. Everyone of the crew members on your site were american citizens and speak English, so I'm not sure where the communication issue. We do have a company policy that all communication pertaining to work onsite is to be done through our Certified crew leader specialist/ certified arborist. This helps avoid confusion and it maintains a certain level of order among the controlled chaos of our profession. We do apologize if this caused an issue with the foreman communicating to the crew that you wanted to keep a specific log. Once again I know that I speak for the entire company when I say that I really, truly am sorry that you had these issues. If there is anything at all that we can do to help fix the situation or if you need anything at all please don't hesitate to contact us. Respectfully, Team Arbormax"

I was 100% pleased with the work performed and wouldn't hesitate to re-hire them. Usman arrived promptly to the appointment for the free estimate. He marked each tree that we agreed to trim so there was no misunderstanding as to the ones to be trimmed the day the work was performed. On the day the work was scheduled they were late for a reason beyond their control. A gas leak forced his crew to shut down equipment that could cause a spark. When they arrived they diligently worked to complete the job before rains came but could not. They waited until rain stopped and proceeded to complete the work. Usman is professional, courteous, and reasonable to deal with. They weren't perfect but I evaluate a company on the basis of how they resolve imperfections. He gets an A+ and I wouldn't hesitate to hire him again.

Arbormax sent out a good-sized crew who arrived as scheduled, were professional, friendly, courteous and efficient. Although they arrived with almost all the equipment they needed, the crew didn't wait for that one specialized piece of equipment, a mobile lift to arrive. They got started on other parts of the job. This worked out well because the additional equipment arrived about the time they were finishing up the other work. The crew completed the job in a timely fashion, cleaned up my yard and my neighbor's yard which they had to access for part of the job, almost as if they'd never been there. Watching this crew, it was clear that they a) are professionals and b) take pride in doing an excellent job. The only area of concern I had, and why I gave a B on responsiveness, was in communication with the office. The communications I had were good, but the amount of communication just lacked a bit from a customer service perspective. Calling for the initial estimate meant leaving a message. That wasn't unexpected but it would have been nice to speak to someone at that time. My message was returned the same day and the estimate was scheduled for two days later. The estimator was punctual (he was ahead of schedule and called to see if we could meet a bit earlier), professional and knowledgeable. His professionalism and knowledge were big factors in my choosing Arbormax. I received a scheduling call the day after I accepted the quote. We schedule service for a week and a half later. From there I didn't hear back from anyone. Finally, two days before the service I called the office to confirm. So, my advice to Arbormax, add confirmation calls to every service to align customer expectations.

We were told that the crew would arrive between 8 and 9 am when the date for the service was agreed upon. About a week ahead of time we received a call to confirm. On the agreed upon date, no one showed up and we did not receive a call to explain. After 2 hours my wife began trying to reach the company. Eventually she got through and found out that there had been some kind of scheduling conflict and they thought that they were supposed to come to our house in the afternoon. We were assured that they were still coming. I have to meet with people everyday and If I am going to be late, I always call and let them know. Even if it is 3 minutes. Jack and his crew arrived late afternoon. Jennifer, the business owner, came with them and apologized for the mixup. She was very kind, and explained further what had happened. It's all good now and the work is done and we are happy. Jack was very friendly walked around the yard with me. Asked where the septic tank was so he could be sure that they didn't run over it with any equipment. He asked a few other relevant questions and they got right to work. They cleaned up after themselves and except for the mulch left from the stump grinding (a good thing to us), and the new big open spaces in our yard, you would not know that anyone had been here. In my opinion they finished in record time too. Aside from the communication breakdown in the beginning I rate these folks really top notch. I hope that I don't have to pay for any more tree removal but if I do I will call Arbormax again.

UPDATE: after posting my last review reflecting a disappointing experience with Arbormax, I was immediately contacted by the owner, Tim Robbins, who was until that point unaware of the difficulties that we'd experienced with scheduling and communication. He has since gone above and beyond to make the situation right, apologizing, explaining, and completing the remaining work within 24 hours - all over the weekend. I am deeply impressed with the professionalism and work ethic that he has demonstrated in resolving the situation, and can honestly say that I would now recommend Arbormax.

After getting several quotes, we hired Arbormax to remove a red oak that was in declining health and dangerously close to our house. Their prices were competitive, and the representative that came out to assess our tree and provide a recommendation was very professional and competent, making us feel like they were a good choice. I wish I could leave two sets of reviews, however, because our experience of the professionals on the ground who performed the work and those on the administrative end of communication and scheduling were like the difference between night and day. First, as far as the actual tree removal: Jack and his crew were FANTASTIC - efficient, friendly, and highly skilled professionals who completed a difficult and dangerous job without a hitch. They literally lifted a huge oak tree over our house with a crane, and a few hours later the job was finished and all debris had been thoroughly removed. I would recommend them in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, getting to the stage of actually having them show up was and continues to be a nightmare. From beginning to end, I have called the office phone at least 8-10 times, and it has not been answered once - sometimes phone calls are returned, but usually not, and the scheduling eventually took place over email. On the first day that the tree removal was scheduled, after having had to schedule it over two weeks in advance, I sent an email with some logistical comments only to find out that they didn't actually have me on the schedule - at all. Somehow my "email had been missed." Okay. We rescheduled for about 10 days later, but then it was raining. Postpone for another 10 days. This third time, they finally made it out and the tree was removed. When the removal crew left they told me that the stump grinder would be by "later today or tomorrow" to finish the stump grinding that was part of the original work order. After waiting around at the house to be sure not to miss them, I finally called the office the next afternoon to find out when I could expect them, but no one answered and my call was not returned. About a week to ten days later I sent a frustrated email asking if they were planning to finish the job or if I needed to hire someone else, and that afternoon one of the foremen called apologizing profusely and said he would be out the next morning (Friday). Simultaneously, the office administrator called and said she would put me on the schedule for Monday. No one showed up on Friday and no one called. On Monday, it was raining - the office called and said she would reschedule it for the next Friday (this is now two full weeks after the tree had been removed). Not surprisingly, no one showed up and I haven't heard from them since. After three tries to get the tree removed and three failed attempts at having them finish the stump grinding, I'll be finding someone else to finish the job. It's really unfortunate that the office is so poorly and unprofessionally managed, because the crews on the ground completing the work deserve better representation. They are highly skilled professionals who should be recommended, but because of the horrendous difficulty of actually getting work scheduled, I will not be using Arbormax in the future and cannot recommend them.

Between the time I had the estimate done and the time of our day for service, one of the trees snapped at about 30 feet off the ground and fell safely into an area away from our home, deck, hot tub...definitely had to get the work done. They arrived on time, asked where they could fell the trees without hurting underground systems (our leach field), asked if they could run a Bobcat over an area of lawn that was in disrepair. Once work began, as has been my experience with ArborMax in the past, they professionally removed the trees, cleaned the area, ground the stumps and left the area in better shape than when the project began.
This is our fourth experience with ArborMax. All A+++ experiences in price and quality of work.
First project remove a dead tree safely. 2006
Second project to remove 14 trees around the back of the house for new patio area.2007
Third project was to remove 23 trees from all over the property to add room for large deck and to get trees away from the house. 2008
This project was our fourth experience and we're getting ready to schedule a maintenance and tree removal project for this Spring

They were actually pretty good. They were scheduled to come out on a certain day and they showed up at 6:30 at night, it was dark and they worked on the dark which we didn?t really appreciate. It was kind of odd. I was surprised that they stayed and did the work in the dark but they did.

It was hard to get them scheduled.
