This company came recommended to us. At our first meeting Anthony Hong impressed us with his familiarity of very old houses like ours (an 1800s Victorian) and the special considerations involved. He also had a great deal of experience working with the insurance end. Some of the work we wanted was not covered but his price quotes on the extra things were very reasonable-some thrown in for free. The job went very fast, about a week, with most of the time dealing the extra construction projects they did. The roofs themselves only took a couple days. The whole project was very professional and beautifully done, with excellent cleanup and protection of our neighbors properties. Our houses are only 3 feet apart with very steep roofs. The men he worked with were very professional, polite, and cordial. No yelling, cursing, or any inappropriate behaviors. They answered any concerns or questions we had. They were great.

ARCM did assist in submitting an insurance claim to replace the roof. My insurance company agreed to cover the cost of a new roof, and any required code upgrades. In the course of estimating the code required upgrades, ARCM determined that asbestos and lead paint tests should be performed. Given the age of my residence, it was not surprising that both tests indicated asbestos containing materials in some of the old roofing and lead paint necessitating abatement.
The abatement requirement was submitted as part of the claim modification and what was originally estimated by ARCM as a $15,000 re-roof ballooned to over $60,000. ARCM negotiated the claim modification with my insurance company and settled upon a claim value of just under $50,000.
I was anxious that given the ARCM estimates over $60000 and that the claim paid by my insurance company was $47,000 that I would be saddled with a bill for the difference. It took several weeks and multiple attempts to get ARCM to respond to my request for a guarantee that I would not be liable for any added costs beyond my insurance deductible. Finally when I said I would not allow work to start without a written guarantee, ARCM responded that the work would be completed for the claim paid plus my deductible.
Work started the first week of October with several days of tear-off. Half way through the tear off, we had storms and inadequate tarp coverage lead to major leaks and a thorough soaking of attic insulation and subsequent drywall damage to ceilings below. ARCM stated at the time of the storms (in response to my call reporting the steady stream of water through my ceiling) that they'd be right out and they'd be sure to address any damage that occurred. Later, I was told to submit another insurance claim.
Work continued with completion of the roof tear-off and removal of gutters. The tear-off and disposal of the roof and gutters was to be completed by an abatement contractor and to be performed under specific EPA standards/protocols. ARCM had provided me their abatement contractor's estimate and description of service; and while present through out the project and observing the work, I noted significant elements/services described in the abatement estimate were not performed/provided. I alerted ARCM that I was watching the work and wondered when abatement processes would be performed. I was told that most of the abatement work was completed and what remained would be done within a couple days (specifically, lead painted gutters were laying in my yard and were yet to be hauled away). I observed the disposal of the gutter/downspout by a workman and none of the required protocols (wrapping/bagging or containment) were performed.
ARCM submitted invoices for payment that indicated all abatement work had been performed. I asked for evidence of proper disposal of hazardous materials and additional evidence that work was performed by a certified abatement contractor. I further asked that I see sub-contractor billing back-ups to justify the line items from their estimate and invoice. After multiple requests and a couple weeks of slow or inadequate replies to my inquiries, I finally received a waste manifest suggesting that the old roofing materials had at least been disposed of correctly. I did not, however, receive anything else showing the work had been done by a certified abatement contractor nor any evidence that the abatement work had been completed correctly.
After marking up and rejecting multiple invoices from ARCM (identifying specific abatement elements that were not performed), I finally received an invoice submitted for approximately $15000 less than the claim amount. This revised invoice was only forthcoming after I suggested that I might need to call in the insurance company to take a look at their records to show that the work their estimate said would be performed was actually done.
Finally, while working to get the insurance claim funds released, ARCM was slow in providing accurate contract amounts, lien waiver and other documentation required by the mortgage company resulting in significant delays in getting their invoice paid. I had to request documents be revised and corrected several times and when I requested their invoice be signed by a company principal as requested by the mortgage company, I received multiple terse email responses suggesting that I was "playing games" and demanding immediate payment.
