First, the receptionist and in particular, the scheduling staff I dealt with (Sherry Gregory) were professional, polite, and even more important, did what they said they would do in setting up an appointment for a service call, fully and completely letting me know of the cost factors involved, as well as possible future options. The day of the appointment, I received a call from the service technician (Ryan) who accurately advised as to his estimated time of arrival and actually showed at that time. During the service call, Ryan was professional, knowledgeable, and definitely customer service oriented. He provided clear and concise explanations as to what he was doing/had done, what he had found, and explored successfully solutions to those problems.
Ryan, and Ms. Gregory, are both outstanding representatives of Area Access and credits to that corporation.
I will definitely be using the services of this company for any future service, maintenance or replacement requirements I have in the future, and have no reservations in recommending Area Access as a highly outstanding company to deal with.
My wife ordered a backrest for her Dolomite Opal 2000 walker. She was quoted a price of $26.00 for the part, plus shipping which was unknown. Two days later I want over to Area Access with the walker, to make sure that the part would fit. When I arrived, they immediately took the walker from me (keep in mind it only takes 2 screws to take the old part off and the same 2 screws to put the new part on). Five minutes later the walker was returned. The total bill was $85.50. They charged $12.00 for shipping, $39.00 for labor, and $8.50 for supplies. After complaining about the labor bill they first were going to reduce it to $25.00, then I showed them with a dime in my pocket that I could take the backrest off the scooter, they finally waved the entire $39.00. I was told the $8.50 was for supplies such as lubrication and paper work. So it cost me $8.50 to receive my bill. Just remember when this company bills you you will be charged $8.50 for you bill. By the way the $8.50 is imprinted on the bill so it is part of their normal operations. I believe that a company should make a reasonable profit on their customers. What company charges 225% of the item ordered. This company does. After 20 years of being a customer, I will no longer allow myself to be ripped off. Taking my business where the customer is appreciated.
Response from Area Access
"First of all, I'd like to thank the [member name removed]'s for their business over the past 20 years. We work hard to earn and keep our customers. I have read this review and have reviewed the paperwork. It is true that we, like most shops, have a minimum labor charge in our shop. It is costly to have a technician in the shop all day to handle walk in business. Upon [member name removed]'s disappointment, we waived this labor charge in an attempt to promote good customer service. As far as the $8.50 supplies charge, it is for items such as screws, nuts, bolts, cleaners, rags, cable ties, lubricants and other items used in the operation of the shop(not paperwork). In general, this is a very fair charge. However, this was a very minor repair which wouldn't require a lot of supplies. In any event, the part and shipping costs total to $38. The [member name removed]'s paid a total of $46.50 which we feel to be very fair. Hopefully, we can continue to be available in the event of their need for our service in the future. Thanks again for your previous business. Sincerely, Scott Hobson, President"

Based on the showroom visit, we ordered the stairlift and scheudled the installatikon for two days later. Thbe installers came on time, assembled the unit in less that two hours and demonstrated its use. Everything went exactly as we had hoped.

DO have someone come to your home to determine what you need and show you the options.

DO go to a local showroom to determne if this is a real company with a real warehouse and staff.

DO NOT simply respond to Internet ads for companies that do not have a local representative and disp[lay room.

Salesman for installation of stair lift came to our home for assessment and pricing. We later purchased the stair lift and set a day for installation. All employees of Area Access were helpful and the installation crew took their time and did a great job!

I went there to visit their office and they came to my mom’s residence and placed a stairmill there. She needed the stairs. They were on Angie's List. Demeanor and customer service was good. They were great. Price is pretty high. So far the quality has been good. They were very professional.

The office staff was very friendly and informative.
The installer was a little late but did a very good job on the installation. He appeared to be very experienced at doing the installation. The installer did a very neat and professional looking installation.
The installer did a very good job of demonstrating and explaining the use and care of the unit.
There were a lot of things to remember. Even though this was a "refurbished" unit I thought it should have come with an owners manual.
I called Area Access about the owners manual and the office staff immediately E-mailed me one.
"Hi (deleted member name). First, I'd like to thank you for your business. We really appreciate it! As to the installation of the stairlift and the distance from the wall, there are two factors involved. First, our insurance company regulations forbid us to remove the handrail. Area Access technicians are also not allowed to remove the handrail for the installation of a stairway lift, because other occupants of the home may need the handrail to safely manage the stairs. Area Access will gladly reinstall the unit closer to the wall if the handrail is removed by others, and at no cost to you. We suggest you strongly consider those who are walking up the stairs and may need to use the handrail. It is your home and your choice, but do not recommend it. thanks, Scott Hobson, Pres., Area Access, Inc."

An Area Access engineer came to our home in response to my call to fix our 10 year old Bruno stair lift. He was extremely helpful. He diagnosed and fixed the faults (it needed both new batteries and a new charger which apparently was ?fried? as a result of a recent power outage), but also diagnosed an error code which had been causing the chair to ?beep? occasionally ? a situation which the Bruno technical support had not been able to help with when I spoke with them a year or more ago! He also tightened some bolts which had become loose, causing the chair to hesitate and beep sometimes, and adjusted the height of the seat to suit my new wife. (The chair had originally been acquired for my late first wife, who died 5 years ago.) I was also grateful for the tidy way in which he fitted the cables for the new charger along the baseboard.

The engineer was a very personable young man as well as being clearly very knowledgeable and professional. His visit reminded
me how wonderful Area Access was to deal with when we first bought the stair lift all those years ago.

On Monday morning we called and on Tuesday morning they came out to install an electric chair lift. The installation was done by a true professional. While installing a heavy duty 13 foot steel railing, he made little noise with no banging and no striking surrounding walls or furniture. The railing on which the chair rides was simply bolted ot the wooden stairs and not the wall which meant that the beautiful brick and pllasterboard walls were no touched. After the installation, the installer very patiently and courteously instructed my neighbor in the use of the chair and had him ride up and down multiple times until he was comfortable with the chair's operaton. At the conclusion of the instruction, the neighbor had tears of joy in his eyes. I can't thank you enough . Your rental program made this chair affordable for this individual. Thank you for providing such a wonderful service when our citizens become physically challenged.

They were responsive, and quick. They did a good job. We reviewed other comments people had posted on Angie's List, and one of them said that we need to negotiate price with these guys, so we did, and saved $300.

The experience with them was excellent! They were timely and professional. They knew the product. The sales person was very good. The installer was outstanding. I negotiated the price quit a bit. I got an excellent price. I did some comparison shopping, and was able to reduce their price by over $1,000.00. If someone just went in and got their price without negotiating I think they would be high.
Response from Area Access
"Area Access strives to be competitive in the stairlift market. We try to have specials on new equipment and offer used equipment as well. Our extensive inventory of used equipment helps to really save our customers a lot of money. Thanks for the great review. We appreciate your business!"
