Artistic Landscape Design

Took more money than the project was originally supposed to cost, never paid back the additional expenses, did work that we are having to have an additional person come in and fix. The fence was broken and not done well from the start. Any time you asked him to fix or come out he either didn't come out or didn't answer.

Showed up and did job after a couple delays. Installed steps but it didn’t cover the area correctly so we agreed to add another step but he never showed to finish the job.

I hired Artistic Landscape Design to do a big project at our house because I had used Marc Garhart and his company in the past for some smaller jobs and I was pleased with his work. He initially said the work could be done in three weeks which at the time I thought was overly optimistic. That feeling turned out to be correct--the work has taken ten months to complete. It seemed as if practically everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong. Some of it was due to circumstances beyond Marc's control but most of it was the result of his being overscheduled during last fall and problems with his employees. Communicating to Marc through dozens of phone calls and text messages to continually ask him when all the day-to-day, "little" things would be done turned out to be a part-time job in itself. However, having said all that, we can say we are pleased with the majority of his work: the patio & fire pit installation, new sod, new sprinkler system, landscaping and the cleaning out of our wooded area. One positive note is that the original price agreed upon was never increased. We would hire him again but would insist on stricter control on dates of performance.

I hired Mark to install an irrigation system and drainage. I hired him at the end of Feb, and he said he would be able to start middle of March. He then postponed the job a number of times and then had personal issues and was not going to be able to get to my job. He then sold the job to another contractor, the person he learned from. It then took me to threaten for a refund of my money for the job to get started 4 months after signing the contract. The new guy then took 3 weeks to do a 2.5 day job, and really only did 3/4 of what was contracted.

Extremely Well! Marc and his crew did an excellent job! Very knowledgeable in his field. Very fair. At one point Marc came to us after the contract was signed and showed us a better and less expensive way to fix our drainage issue. We will definitely be using him for all of our landscape needs going forward.

We read the Angie List Reviews on several companies and interviewed 3 of them. We decided to go with Artistic Landscape Design since Marc was the most professional and personable owner. The work that Marc and his team did was poorly done. They started in the Fall (Sept 2016 time frame) and took several months to complete the job. We had major flooding problems in our back yard and sump pumps were installed to mitigate the problem. The pumps were installed but after every major rain event the pumps failed. We called Marc several times to let him know the pumps were not working and to his credit he came out to fix the pumps several times. It was clear about 2 weeks ago that we needed to get another company in to fix the sump pumps so they would consistently work. I actually had lost faith in Marc and was disappointed that we had trusted him to do the work correctly. When the other company came in to inspect the work, they found that the pumps were unsafely installed and were not grounded properly and were not functioning. The other company properly and safely installed new pumps. The Sod that Marc initially laid in our yard in the Fall died. We expressed our concern with the patchy look of the sod because the pieces were not installed uniformly throughout the yard. After going through the paperwork that we had agreed on we realized that Marc did not deliver the full amount that we had paid for. He reinstalled new sod in the Spring and some areas died immediately. We had express concern to Marc about those areas immediately after he laid the sod and he told us that they would be fine. Finally, his team had taken one of our shovels to borrow in the Fall. We called Marc on several occasions to get the shovel back. He did buy us a new shovel but he didn't get it to us until 5 months later. Marc is a really nice guy. I think he just takes on too many projects and spreads himself too thin and the quality of work suffers. The work that he did at our home was not done poorly and it was not done in a timely manner. We had to pay another company come in and redo the work that Marc had done. Unfortunately, we will not recommend him to our friends in the future.

I called him and he answered the phone. Wasnt expecting to get him on the first try with it being spring. Anyway I told him what we needed and he gave me a quote and we set a day. Well it rained and we communicated back and forth until rain stopped, he came the first day it stopped. Very reliable, communication is excellent, responsiveness is excellent, and he does great work. We would hire him again. He's awesome! I see why he has so many good reviews.

Great! They were there early, worked hard and finished in a timely manner. Everything looks great. They cleaned all debris up and were very nice to work with. Would definitely hire again.

Marc and John are a great team working together to make certain the customer is satisfied. I plan to have them remake the back yard this spring and look forward to another successful project.

First I would like to say this review is 1 year late. My husband had a stroke before I could write this review last year. I apologize to Marc. I thought I had submitted a review. In the Fall of 2015, we decided to overhaul our front yard. We looked through the landscaping companies. Marc was our choice from the beginning and we were not disappointed. Marc and his crew went above and beyond the entire job. We had many rain delays but Marc kept us informed. Marc is extremely knowledgeable and thorough. We had 7 Carolina sapphires, 2 maple trees and 15 Daisy Gardenias planted.Also, Zoysia sod installed. Our walkway is so beautiful. An awesome makeover of our front yard. Thank you, Marc. We absolutely would hire him again.

They showed up bright and early every morning and did not leave until dark. Marc (the owner of the company) either called his workers or stopped in every day. He even got down and dirty to do the work himself at times. The job was professionally done and we are very satisfied. I would not hesitate to go with this provider again! We are looking forward to our next time using his service.

Started project on time and finished early. Awesome team always left the jobsite clean. They were friendly, courteous, and always made sure my new puppy was out of harms way. We couldn't have asked for a better team!!

Extremely well. Mark is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. He was prompt with his quote, and very reasonably priced. We asked Mark for an overall plan and proposal for the work with the intention of doing the work in stages, but we were able to do all of it at once. I would highly recommend Mark and his crew for any of your landscape needs!

Very pleased with the results; quality work. Marc has a good crew and quality sub-contractors.  He coordinated well with other trades as needed.  Communication during the process was good.   Would certainly utilize Marc on future projects.

Mark returned my call within 20 mins and came out to assess our yard that same afternoon. (I called two other companies and they never returned my call). Marc is friendly, courteous, respectful and professional. His crew is too. He transformed our yard from what used to be the worst lot in the subdivision to the best one (he gave us a delightful garden). I almost didn't call him because I read "Debbie Downer's" review--she gave him an F rating even though she didn't use his services. I also read his rebuttal which stated that his life was in crisis at the time (his wife gave birth prematurely and a few weeks later he had to have emergency surgery himself). I felt satisfied with his response to her which I found to be reasonable and justifiable. I AM VERY GLAD I CALLED HIM!  I WOULD USE HIS SERVICES AGAIN AND WOULD RECOMMEND HIM TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS. Don't hesitate to call Marc and Artistic Landscape Designs. 

Mark and his guys do a great job. They were fast and tackled all the jobs I needed done as well as an addition job we had needed done for a long time. I'll be using his services again in the future.
