Jeff Winton and crew at Aspen are great to work with. Quality work and fair price. Last year, they installed a three-rail red cedar split rail with galvanized welded wire and three gates for our backyard (about 1/2 an acre) in a day-and-a-half.

Jeff was very easy to contact; when I called he always answered. The workers did a good job putting the posts in the ground. They worked quickly and that might have contributed to them cutting the cable line for both our house and that of our neighbor. We had to wait a week for our cable company to fix the damaged cable lines. While I realize that Jeff is not responsible for the cable company being slow to respond, it was his workers that caused the problem. Jeff gave me a 10% discount off the job which I don't think was enough for the level of inconvenience my neighbor and I experienced.

Installed fence while I was out of town. Due to this there was a little confusion on a couple things, but after contacting Jeff his crew came out and fixed my concerns within a couple days of our phone conversation. I am pleased with the final product and as long as Aspen sticks to their word on the guarantee of their work I will continue to be a happy customer. I would recommend Aspen to anyone, but I would just say to make sure both parties are clear on what needs to be accomplished to avoid any issues.
At first I received two quotes, 1 from Aspen Fence and 1 from Golden Fence. In hind site I should have used Golden Fence. (sorry Golden Fence)
I picked Aspen Fence because their proposal looked to be more professional, so I justified the extra $250 that they were because of that.
The problem was that I had two gates on the project and Golden Fence included 4x6 posts on BOTH gates and Aspen didn't include any larger posts on either gate. I spoke with Jeff at Aspen and he wanted to charge me extra for adding the larger posts and I had to twist his arm to up-size the posts at ONE gate for no extra charge.
Then Jeff called me 12 hours before his guys were going to show up and asked me if I got the permit when I was under the impression he was getting the permit so I had to pay extra for that and I had to pull favor with the village to expidite it thru the system.
Then when the guys showed up the asked my wife "where do you want us to put the dirt from the holes". WHAT??? Since when does a contractor give you a price to make holes and a mess and ask you where to put the spoils? I've been in construction and construction project management for 30+ years, I've NEVER had a contractor ask me where to put the trash and spoils they generate. You make it you take it! So I called Jeff to ask him his thought on that and he said "well we never take the dirt away, we usually spread it around the property where the customer wants it". He told me he would charge me extra to take the dirt away ($7/hole) and I had something like 22 holes so he wanted to charge me another $150 to take his trash away.
I informed him he should've spelled that out on his quote and he said I was the first to have a problem with it.
Needless to say I wasn't blown away with the whole "Aspen experience" and I would caution anyone considering using them. If you're getting a bid from them NAIL THEM DOWN IN WRITING about EVERYTHING!!!! Time, duration, drawings, details, permits, spoils, layout........
The workmanship was fine and they did come back out to fix some things free of charge but I just wanted to share my experience.
Good luck and God bless to you all.
Jeff Winton and his crew provided an efficient professional service at every step.
The crew arrived exactly on time; the lumber they brought with them for this treated pine fence was of excellent quality; the installation was amazingly quick.
I would not hesitate to highly recommend Alpine Fence to anyone needing this service.
We strongly recommend Aspen Fence. After an onsite walking of the property Jeff was very professional with a prompt written quote. After several quotes Aspen was the low bidder. As for the installation of the fence, Aspen's crew was quick and worked with us because there were some minor issues with water pipes and trees on the fence line. We are very happy with the fence and with Aspen's workmanship. We will definitely use Aspen Fence for any future fencing needs.
The fence itself is quality and looks good. I would never use the company again as their professionalism was severely lacking and they caused damage to my property placing blame completely on us. Below is a large portion of my email to the owner which describes the issue after my husband's discussion with him did not result in any help:
"I have to say that I wish you had this amount of enthusiasm toward keeping a customer. We are quite disappointed at the lack of care your employees showed toward our property. The landscape lighting that was cut was attached to a light that was literally right next to the fence post. Any attempt to claim that they were unaware of the risk is asinine. Further they left pieces of cut metal scattered around. Not only is that negligent but very dangerous considering we have two little kids playing in the backyard.
Mistakes happen and people are rushed. However, your refusal to engage in a conversation with my husband on how to fix the situation boggles my mind. The burden for a good experience in this situation falls upon you and your lack thereof prevents us from ever referring your company to anyone.
Hopefully you take this experience to heart and amend your business practices in the future."
Here is the owner's response:
"Im sorry you feel that way.
First of all I spoke to your husband for ten minutes about cut light and clearly explained that situation to him. In regards to clean up nothing was mentioned at to me about that or to my crew. I cant solve a problem if I'm not told about it. As to yr light wires my men are not asinine may be you should read yr proposal and it clearly states we are not responsible for unmarked owner installed lines. We do what we can to avoid all lines. Jeff"
The light that was cut was literally in plain sight and should not have needed any extra attention called to it. We were NOT reminded to show them anything before they started. Hiding behind a footnote on an estimate is not good customer service. We are not the professionals here; we need to be guided with what is necessary.
The lack of understanding acceptance in this day and age is mind-boggling. All that would have been required is to come back out and do a simple repair, clean up and apologize. Sloppy work and poor professionalism prevents me from recommending the company and instead asking others to steer clear.
Response from Aspen Fence Co
"By the time the customer notified us of the problems she mentioned my crew had already left for another job site. I spoke with her husband for ten minutes (her email claims I didn't talk to him about fixing the cut wire but I did) and he had said that he had picked up a few small pieces of fence that were overlooked by my crew rather than asking us to come back to clean up. I also explained to him that occasionally we accidentally hit unmarked buried lines. It clearly states in our contract/proposal that any private owner installed lines are the responsibility of the homeowner to mark them. We are not liable for any damage of unmarked lines. I told him that if he went to a hardware store to get some wire nuts and electrical tape he could fix it himself which he said he would do."

Jeff, the owner, was extremely nice to deal with. He was courteous, professional, informative, and punctual. He came out to measure and then provided us with a very competitive estimate. His company had been recommended by a landscape architect, who we also saw on Angie's list, but who we didn't use. Aspen had very good ratings on Google also. We had to postpone work, as we wanted to trim several large trees first. We used Hendricksen Tree, which turned out to be a great decision. In fact, I have written a glowing review for them. Once that work was completed, we scheduled Aspen to come out. A crew of 4 arrived on schedule. We were very happy with the final result. The fence looks great and is a HUGE improvement over the one we replaced. The gate is extremely sturdy, which was a concern I had after seeing what happened to some neighbors who went with another company. I would not hesitate to recommend Aspen and will call on them again if and when we decide to do the back part of our yard.

Aspen put a wood picket fence with a driveway gate and 3' gate over the sidewalk in at our rental property about eight years ago. Jeff Winton was very easy to work with and gave us a GREAT deal. Since the renters have a dog, both of the gates get used often, so we have been expecting/waiting for problems with the driveway gate since we considered the idea of installing one. It opens and closes almost as smoothly now as it did when it was installed. Our renters love it and it has added to the curb appeal to the house.
Since we had a fantastic experience with Jeff at Aspen with the rental, we decided we'd go with him for the aluminum fence we wanted to put in our yard. Sadly, we're not proceeding with the aluminum fence, but it's certainly not Aspen's fault!
Jeff is very professional, very communicative, and doesn't take no for an answer. That's especially helpful when you have an impossible project that requires determination to discover a reasonable and attractive solution. He's the kind of guy who makes you feel like you're his only customer. I even like his approach to choosing a supplier. He works with a small supplier that stands behind their work and still offers competitive rates.
Great experience!
Called for an estimate. Scheduled the replacement within a week. Took two partial days to complete work as the concrete needed to dry. Work was completed while we were away from home.

They came on-time and replaced the posts as requested. I was impressed that they came so quickly, even though they had to call Nico Gas to determine where the gas lines were. They did a good job and I would use them again.
