Mr. Shane Stanley, Asphalt Design's owner, is a pleasant, friendly, and easy to like person. He will promise "the best quality materials and workmanship" during initial conversations. Well, I am not an expert on asphalt, I only have a Ph.D. on Material Science from Vanderbilt in the area of metals, but I would have to say that the quality of both is sub par. The driveway is full of cracks, crisscrossing it, at the center and edges. We noticed them soon after the work had been completed and reported them to Mr. Stanley. It took him and his crew almost a full year to show up to do "something". The "repair" job, if we could call it that way, left our driveway with two blotches of darker, granular asphalt that is not just unsightly but, we suspect, will start crumbling any day. Contrary to his claim that he used "prime quality material", I have to submit that it isn't. A couple of drops of gasoline (lawnmower refueling) dissolved the asphalt and created a hole of approximately 2 x 4 inches, that I had to repair myself. I am including several pictures that I took today (06/05/2019) and could serve as a testimonial on the state of the driveway, one year and one month after the job was completed. You draw your own conclusions.

Absolutely the worst job I have even seen done in my life. Its already cost an extra $5000.00 Shane excuse is the was a not the company who cares the flooding. But the fixed their problem and repayed for damages. So man up Shane. And pay for your mistakes.

Shane is a liar. He has no idea what he is doing. He resurfaced my driveway in December. It is now falling apart. Its grumbling at the edges and seams. Grass and roots are already growing up through the pavement. The old driveway had less problems. There are two huge puddles and the driveway is two inches above my garage floor. Where he installed a grate which was tilted towards my garage which lead to flooding. He also ran my down spouts under the the driveway which completely failed. And now the drive way is collapsing where the corrugated pipe was installed without crushed rock or cloth. After contacting several other paving companies and getting quotes of $20000 to fix Shanes mess which these companies replied saying they do a lot of work cleaning up Shanes messes. He also installed drainage system in my back yard that completely failed. Which lead to massive flooding in my yard and garage. Which I replaced myself. Even though Shane said he would come fix it but I never heard from him until I complained to BBB. He also took my deposit of $2000 and cashed it that day and it took me calling several times and took over a month for him to finally come and start the disaster he created in my yard. He is no longer accredited by the BBB because of the damages and terrible work he did at my property. I am in the process of suing him and his company. His best bet would be to refund my money. $10500 Run far far away from Shane and Asphalt Designs. I have videos of the horrible job which can't be loaded on this website.

It went badly. Mr. Stanley deferred the job until the weather was too cold to apply the coat. It soon flaked off. He said he would fix it the following spring. I heard nothing from him until i contacted the BBB. He came out when I was not home and applied the coating; he never spoke to me. This application was just as disappointing; bare spots are already appearing on the driveway surface. I will have to hire a new contractor to apply another sealcoating less than a year after his defective job.

The owner, Shane, is great. He is a small business owner who answered his phone and was reliably responsive throughout the process (hard to find in Nashville). The quote was very competitive, the work was done on time and was good quality. NOTE - Cash/Check only.

I expect three simple things when I hire a contractor: 1. Return my calls 2. Show up when you say you will (or let me know if you’re not coming) and 3. Provide good service at a fair price. These seem like reasonable expectations, but disqualify about 80% of the people I’ve dealt with in any of the trades. I was getting very frustrated trying to find a company to do a small ($6,000) blacktop job. And then I found Shane Stanley of Asphalt Designs. Professional, prompt, reliable, quality work, and fair price. This company knows how to treat customers right.

"[Member Name Removed] called me to repave a 60yr old drieway. I gave her a quote and she did not want to spend that much money, so we came to an agreement with what she wanted to spend in her budget with sealcoating, repairs, and crack filling. Sealing is not asphalt. There is a difference, so that's where I had explain to her we had started the driveway in late November and never completed it until January. She had called me in the winter to do this work ."

We've never been happy with the trim work in the Dining area and downstairs hallway. Frankly, the builder did the cheapest and crappiest job possible. Jason and his assistant did exactly what we asked and even had some suggestions. They were here 2 and 1/2 days for a relatively small job but they wanted to make sure the job was perfect and we were happy. The results were wonderful. I would certainly use them in the future.

The Good: The quality of their work is excellent. I was extremely happy with the craftsmanship in filling in cracks and their attention to making sure every area was resurfaced without messing up the carports paint.

The Bad: I purchased the Angie's List deal for $150 to resurface up to 600sq Ft, which my carport was under that limit square footage. There was some fine print and I asked them to check and make sure I qualified before I purchased, which I did. They tried to charge me $250 for the deal that would have been covered for $150. He kept saying he couldn't do it for under $250, which I had to point out several times that the Angie's List deal only allowed them to charge $150. Overall, they seemed confused about the deal they elected to offer through Angie's List. I was extremely annoyed with their lack of communication and inability to follow through. I live in a condo. They took doing work at my condo as an excuse to go hit up several of my neighbors to try to do work for them. I did not like this. I hired someone to do resurfacing and not be a salesman to all my neighbors. My neighbors carports are approximately the same size and overall work, yet he charged all my neighbors wildly different prices. I paid $150. One neighbor paid $250. Another neighbor he charged $275, so there is definitely an inconsistency in their rates. They also did not follow through on their proposed schedule on two occasions.

Overall, I'm happy with the work they did, but their customer service is terrible. I'd be reticent to use them again unless they offered another Angie's List deal.

Asphalt Designs exceeded expectations. They took a look at the driveway and based their bid on extending the life of a well-worn asphalt driveway with proper patching and repair rather than just seal-coating. While more expensive than just seal-coating, proper repairs will mean longer life for the driveway and save money in the long run.
Other contractors (one of whom never even looked at the driveway - just gave a price on-line) based their bids on just top-coating the surface of the driveway - just what I had asked them to bid on. However, Asphalt Designs took the time to look at condition of the driveway and offer a more comprehensive approach - very much appreciated.
Shane promptly replied to my request for an estimate and came to the house the next day to discuss the project. Shane was on time and very professional. As we discussed the project Shane pointed out areas that could become an issue but he offered a number of ideas to prevent any problems with the project. I had a lot of confidence in Asphalt Designs as it was apparent that they were knowledgeable and had a lot of experience in the field. After several other estimates we ultimately decided to contract with Asphalt Designs. Asphalt Designs was the second lowest bid of five companies contacted, however based upon reviews on this site and my discussions with Shane we decided to hire Asphalt Designs.
Shane and his crew arrived two days later to begin removing sections of the old driveway and to clear areas for the driveway expansion. Shane and his crew were professional and very polite. They worked quickly and Shane was on site supervising for most of the time. I was consulted several times as the project moved along to confirm that what the crew was planning was what I had wanted them to do and where I wanted the driveway expansion to be. After two days of prepping the driveway and a break over the weekend Shane arrived back on scene and completed the project, personally supervising the placement of the new asphalt.
The new driveway looks great and we had only one issue with a garage door not closing completely. I called Shane the day after they finished about it and he stated that he was already aware of the problem, small section of asphalt was too thick and just catching the edge of the garage door. He stated that he was coming by that afternoon to fix it. Shane came by and fixed it that same day.
I would strongly recommend Asphalt Designs to anyone in need of asphalt work, our experience went very well and the entire crew was very professional throughout the project.
We dealt directly with the owner Shane Stanley. He is an excellent and professional young man to deal with. We told Shane exactly what we needed and he gave us a very fair estimate - and understood what we needed. We had it done in two stages. First the rock was set down in the winter so that we could drive on it for a few weeks until the weather broke in the spring to lay the asphalt. Actually, the more you drive on the rock going beneath the asphalt, the better. After good weather came in, Shane and his crew came out and finished the asphalt job. My husband was able to be there while they worked and told me how good Shane and his crew were in making sure he was completely satisfied with all aspects of the job. We are also going to have Shane come back out to seal our entire driveway, including both old and new sections. Don't fall for those fly-by-night asphalt guys that knock on your door - especially those guys that want to "seal" your driveway for a couple hundred bucks! Hire a professional like Shane and Asphalt Designs and be happy with how your home looks.
