The company regarded a stone lane and potholes were back within a couple of weeks. Asked the company to come back and fix the problem and was yelled at for 5 minutes by the owner of the company and he told me to sue him if I wasn’t happy with the job. Terribly unprofessional and didn’t do a very good job. Will not use them again.

they did the work and within a month the potholes returned with a vengeance. The company was called, they came down with a machine and redid part of the road. In a couple of weeks the road looked worse than before they had started. They were called again and one of the workers said they would be back in March to redo. We called the company several times and left messages but got no response. When I went into the office to ask when they would return the owner screamed at me for several minutes saying they" would not come back, the work wasn't guaranteed, and I could take him to court if I wanted to". There were 2 workers in the office at the time. He didn't let me speak as he yelled at me the entire time. his behavior was not only unprofessional, but extremely upsetting to me. I am a 65 year old woman who did not go into his business to fight with him. I will never use this company again and I will tell everyone in town what he did. I probably will not use Angie's list again if this is the type of company you use in your list.

not as proposed...they do not seem to know what they are doing, regarding gravel grating and maintenance. would not stand behind their work. owner berated us for being dissatisfied with his company's work, rather than trying to make it right. more than disappointed. we are downright angry.

It went very well. Mike, the estimator, was very friendly and helpful. I forget the foreman's name....but he came back several hours later....after he had already been paid.....to adjust an edge I was concerned about. He was very very polite and professional about it....did not make me feel like a nuisance for having them return. I am pleased with the finished project. I would definitely recommend them.

I was left with a half completed driveway by a shady contractor. After I realized the contractor I hired was no good I fired him. I contacted Asphalt Services and Michael came out saw my driveway and took mercy on me. He was awesome!! He know exactly how to fix and complete the work on my driveway. All of the people I dealt with at Asphalt Services were great the people in the office the workers that did the actual driveway and especially Michael. The price was also way better than the other contractors that gave me prices. Thank you everyone at Asphalt Services my driveway looks great and I am very happy!!

"Thank You Mr. [Member Name Removed]. It was our pleasure to work for you. The difficulties you had with your previous contractor is one of reasons why Angie's list exists. Angie's List has helped many consumers find quality contractors that must adhere to higher standards. There are many "shady" paving contractors. You were not the first victim. They put in my driveway about a year ago. Did an outstanding job, very professional and great customer service, Kenny and Mike are great. Got it sealed the following year! Excellent job sealcoating the driveway, Casey is a delight to work with, they use top grade material and brush it on which makes the seal coat look much more even and uniform rather than the spray on technique which left puddles in my driveway in the past and took forever to dry.

I received four estimates for the job from local vendors. Mike from Asphalt Services was by far the most knowledgeable sales rep I ran across. He explained all of the hows and whys, listened patiently to all my questions, and presented a quote which was right about in the middle of the others. My wife and I decided to go with Asphalt Services on the spot. It took a couple weeks to get the job scheduled, and we had a mild but irksome scheduling snafu on the first day that caused me to have to drive home from work to go over a few things with the on-site foreman, but the installation went smoothly overall. They even asked me if I wanted them bury a downspout tube under the new driveway, which I wouldn't even have known was an option. This downspout re-route solved the primary reason I needed a new driveway!

- Let me start off by saying that I'm not usually one to complain about minor items but there is one thing that is important to me...customer service and responsiveness. Quality of the product and installation is important but customer service is equally important. I'm writing this review in the hopes that Ken, the owner, will read and call me back or, if he doesn't, to allow others to be aware of the customer service and lack of responsiveness that I received.

- Mike, the gentleman who walked me through the job, was very friendly, knowledgeable, and direct. He was upfront and didn't sugarcoat any part of the job which made me feel like I was in good hands. My old driveway had a huge indentation in the neighborhood of a 10' circle and that was approximately 12" deep in spots. Mike inspected and mentioned that the crew would investigate the cause once the old driveway was ripped out. A good start to the job so I hired Asphalt Services based on my interaction with Mike, the price, the reviews on Angie's List, and the experience of Asphalt Services.

- One I hired Asphalt Services, Mike asked if they could start the job earlier than we originally planned. Of course, I didn't resist and said okay, by all means. Mike called to give almost daily updates on the progress throughout the entire process which took a few days. I was very pleased to this point. Within a day or two of the old driveway being removed, the wearing course was installed while I worked from home. Once they were done, Ken, the owner, walked me through the project and I was very pleased. Ken mentioned that it's very important to let it cure and seal it within 12 months of paving to ensure longevity. Ken also stated that he was not 100% satisfied with the job as he stated that his standards are high. I asked why he wasn't 100% satisfied. He then went on to point to a few areas that weren't as smooth as they should have been or where the transitions from the paving machine were visible. Ken offered in writing on the final invoice to have his team seal coat the driveway in September for no charge for two reasons.
- The first reason was because the temperatures dropped between his ordering of the materials and when the job started. This cold snap caused the imperfections in the paving job because the asphalt wasn't hot enough to pave it evenly and smoothly. Ken was kind enough to offer to make it up because he values his company's reputation and threw in the free seal coat valued at $500. Because of this kind gesture, at the time, I felt like Asphalt Services was the type of company I would want to do business with going forward for my annual seal coats and future paving jobs and, at the time, would have been the first company I would have recommended to friends and neighbors.

- The second reason was because of my recommendation to my neighbors and while Asphalt Services was here at my house, Asphalt Services was able to pick up 4 or 5 additional paving jobs from my neighbors within a week or two of my driveway being paved. Not a bad deal for me advertising via word of mouth (the best form of advertising I might add).

- Throughout this whole process and up to this point, I was pleased with the result of the job and my interactions with Mike and Ken. However, this is where is goes, let's say, south. In September, I called the office twice and left voicemails both times asking to schedule a seat coat of my new driveway. I received a call back from the Office Manager to referred me to the guy who leads the seal coat division. I called and left him several voice mail messages and finally ended up getting him on the phone on 2 different occasions. I mentioned in passing that Ken offered to throw in the seal coat for free for the reasons stated previously and he stated that it was standard practice and wasn't a problem. However, he stated that he had to check with my neighbors who had their driveways paved at the same time as mine to schedule the seal coatings all at once. Seemed reasonable to me. He stated that he would call me back. After no response for 3 weeks, I called back several times and finally got a hold of him after leaving several voice mail messages. He stated that their truck was getting worked on and he would get back to me once it was repaired and once he got a hold of my neighbors. From that point forward through October and November, I called 6 more times and left 6 more voice mail messages with no response. Based on that lack of responsiveness and the feeling that I was getting blown off for a mere $500 seal coat, I decided to write this review.

- Long story short, most of my experience with Asphalt Services was good. I really liked working with Mike and Ken. However, the end of the relationship really ruined it for me. I felt like I was being patience and understanding towards the end but that didn't seem to work. It's now December and I likely won't be able to seal coat my new driveway.

- I'm like most customers, just be honest, do quality work, and I'll pay for it. I'm a reasonable guy. I'm not a customer who is needy, needs to be constantly informed, or has unreasonable expectations. Just be honest and transparent. More importantly, I would have liked to work with Asphalt Services for years to come in sealing my driveway every year to make sure my investment lasts and would have gladly recommended them to friends, neighbors, coworkers, and the like. It's just a shame that this seal coat snafu (if you want to call it that) ruined it for me.

- In the end, I hope Ken reaches out to make this right so that I can edit this review to the once I would have expected it to be based on the first half of my experience with Asphalt Services. If he doesn't, I would encourage potential customers to not only focus on cost or quality of the product, but focus on the customer experience you'll receive. In my eyes, these types of interactions and relationship shouldn't be a one-time experience (i.e.-they paved my driveway and now they're gone). They should be a long-term, multi-experience process (they paved my driveway this year, seal coated in next year, seal coated in the year after, etc.). You would think that a company would want to do business with you more than once rather than just once. I don't know...maybe that's just an unreasonable expectation of mine or maybe that's how I would run a company. Customers for life rather than just once.
Response from Asphalt Services
"We are so sorry for dropping the ball. First I wish this client had called me directly, most of my contracts have my personal cell phone number on it. Here it is 215-805-5240 Secondly, perhaps Kenny or this consumer is mistaken. You can not sealcoat a new driveway for a least a year. It must cure first. It seems this review is from December 2015. Please have this consumer call me immediately. I will schedule his sealcoat as soon as he calls me. Michael Spadaro"

Summary: Above average work, the crew seemed pretty good. If there was a B+ grade I would give that as my overall grade, and for price and quality. If everything was near perfect then I could give out A grades in some of these ratings. I was home for the install and looked at all the phases of work. Overall the job was done professionally but didn?t quite match expectations from the previous reviews and sales pitch, in particular with respect to grading at some points compared to original driveway, and especially with respect to the walkway from the house and final surface leveling/compaction. The final asphalt coarseness was a disappointment, but in part to be fair, part of the final coarseness expectation was my assuming that top coat meant the same as my old one or a couple of the new ones around me. That's not to say that the quality of their topcoat is as good as you can get - only that it appears finer. You should ask about how fine the topcoat will be, ask for some pictures or something. Overall I think the driveway appears to installed to be structurally sound and serviceable. Details are highlighted below as to what went well and where I think it didn't go so well. I'll update the review as necessary over the course of the two year warranty period and beyond.
History: Original owner of house - saw all phases of original installation of driveway.
House and Driveway age: 26 years - no subsequent work done on driveway after builder?s install.
Original driveway info: 45?x18?; 3-4? minimum base layer, 1.5 or so fine top layer; pulled away from garage due to natural shrinking process; a sunken section in corner around house; some center like cracking; cracks and failures around edges due to lack of edge support and (base) and base drainage/depth at bottom of driveway. Less of an incline from garage out to walkway; slightly more incline down to driveway.
How did I go about choosing a service: Interviewed top rated services on Angies List and another rating site, as well as some recent neighbors and friends who had recent work done. Quote range: $2500-$3500
Selected quote: Approx. $3300. Included in quote: Excavation and dirt removal; fine grade and level area; weed killer; 2A modified stone if and where need (I expected some to be needed based on current issues and after looking at grading after old driveway was dug up); roll and compact loose material; 2? base (binder) blacktop; 2? blacktop machine laid and rolled; haul excavated materials away
Why did I choose Asphalt Services? As others have noted, their salesman, Mike seems very knowledgeable about driveways and appeared to genuinely care about doing the job right. His discussion and belief, as compared to others was top notch, about making sure the foundation of stone was right, the crew not accepting poor quality asphalt, along with using a separate binder coat and then the topcoat, as compared to some other sales pitches that had only mix of these promises. Similar to some others, Mike also walked around the driveway with me and noted any issues that he saw as well as the ones that I saw.
What happened? What went as expected and what didn?t go so well?
The job start a couple weeks early due to opening on schedule: Got a call the afternoon before. It was a nice surprise.
8:00: Arrived early, as other have noted. Mike around 8 AM to go over driveway again, marking up some problem areas and a request to cutback so stucco from part of the foundation wall that went between the wall and the pulled away asphalt. The rest of the crew was there by 8:15 to 8:30.
The crew seemed like a good bunch of guys.
Mike stayed around for the tear out of the old asphalt and the beginning of work. Showed me the layers being torn out. They thought it was two driveways perhaps due to its unexpected thickness or two layers. As I mentioned before, the original builder put in a thicker base coat and then a topcoat.
Excavation of old driveway is completed in about 1.5 hours.
No new gravel is used.
The original depression and sunken area up near garage is filled with gravel and stuff from the center of the driveway.
Rope lines had been shot down on both side of the driveway. Good, but showed some potential choices or issues that would need to be addressed based on how the original driveway was graded along with the interface to the walkway coming from the house.
Approximately 10:30: the driveway is graded and compacted more along the lines of a bit more straighter incline/pitch - shows a fair path of dirt instead of gravel on the right side of the driveway, but more importantly highlights the potential walkway problem, with several possible solutions.
Problem needing to be addressed which showed up early: The base is much lower on the side of the driveway that?s going to meet up with the walkway. At this point possible solutions include
a) grading similar to the original installation (slighter decline/pitch coming out from garage, or
b) potentially laying a thicker base than estimated towards that side of the driveway.
c) potentially laying a thicker top coat later on
At this point the choice was no additional material - I guessed that a thicker base in the area similar to the original builder would be applied.
By approx. 1:00-1:30 or so the base layer is in. I went out and looked at it over lunch some time before this and thought this is still too low after the proposed top coat is installed.
Somewhere around this time Ken asks me to come out and look at the problem area around the walkway and asks me how high up to I want the top coat to match the walkway. I said that it didn?t need to come all the way to the top because the original was slightly below the top. Problem solved, I thought. It?s going to be leveled higher toward that side with the topcoat.

Walkway Driveway Level End Result: Walkway solution didn?t go as expected. Topcoat wasn?t flatly leveled to the walkway near where I indicated. The asphalt was manually filled upwards and hand tamped - moving concave or curved away from the walkway and down to the compacted pitch. The underside of bottom left hand corner of the walkway is just visible and that portion of the walkway will become more exposed with settling. To fix this I?m probably going to have to in the near future tear out and install a new walkway; not something I wanted to do any time soon.
Topcoat: as mentioned, much coarser than I expected. This is more my fault for not researching or asking the right question. When Mike mentioned topcoat I had assumed something similar to the original builders and what was just done for my next door neighbor a couple of weeks ago and nearby neighbor?s job about 9 months ago. There are rougher or more course spots due to hand tamping. In some of the areas I?m concerned, though, that frozen water will break apart some of the more open and pocked marked areas where the aggregate isn?t closely spaced. Time will tell.
Other asks and problem areas:
Good: The sunken areas were taken care of.
Good: The crew was able to cut away that area of stucco/concrete that I requested
Good: matched and leveled to the garage
Good: matched and level to the stre

The extension area is about 650 sq feet. They finished the project in a few hours. This was end of Oct 2014. Not used much of the extension except to part a small car.
Now its spring time and I'm having some backyard work done (trees, patio etc). Anytime a delivery truck comes the extension done by Ashphalt services sags and cracks. Called them and they said I must be parking something very heavy on the driveway.
Really !
How come the builders portion of the driveway has not sagged even a bit. The trucks have to drive over the entire builders portion of the driveway which is 60-70 feet and then get to the extension done by Asphalt Services. The builders portion has not had any issues.
There should be at least 6 inches of stone below the binder. Asphalt Services used lest than 2 inches of stone.
I do not recommend them. I will likely have to get legal help and resolve this matter in court.

Adding some pictures of the driveway.

We recently had a crumbling retaining wall replaced. This resulted in our driveway being widened and a patch of old wall foundation and dirt being exposed. The original driveway was installed over 6 years ago and was due for resurfacing. We decided we wanted to get this completed before we had too much mud and snow to worry about. We contacted 4 contractors and got estimates from 3. Asphalt Services was one of the lowest bids but they gave us one of the best guarantees. We scheduled the work and the guys did a great job. They dug up the old chunks of foundation and leveled and packed the area with gravel. Then they tied in the drain lines from the downspouts and the landscaping to an existing drain we had at the back of the driveway and properly finished and covered it all. They also installed a nice edge and border around the drain. It was previously just a hole bordered with rocks. Along the way they ran into a couple of unanticipated obstacles like a 7" thick concrete pad with rebar, but they finished the job w/o charging anything additional. Overall great result and more usable driveway space. We'll have them come back for seal coating. I'd recommend them w/o reservation.
I won't be able to say enough nice things about this company and their services. Michael the Project Manager responded to my inquiry right away and was punctual with our appointment. He is obviously both knowledgeable and professional in addition to being an absolute joy to work with. He fully explained the condition of my driveway and the various options for repairing it. The condition of my drive was scarring me frankly and he was very reassuring.
In the estimate he took the time to show graphically how the driveway was composed and how it would be rebuilt to the highest specifications. I always get more than one estimate when hiring for any services but this time I didn't based on his knowledgeable explanation. And when it came to doing the driveway you couldn't ask for anything better. It's the best looking driveway on the whole block by far now.
They are happy to make adjustments as needed. Since our stone pathway needs to laid parallel to the drive they made a clean, straight edge that will help us with that repair in the future. And once they'd taken the drive down to the layer of stone underneath there were more than usual. Their removal was done without complaint. Since our driveway is shared with the neighbors Michael also did a great job of insuring that they would also be satisfied with the job done on their side and it worked out great.
Everyone within the Asphalt Services company did an absolutely wonderful job, in a timely manner, at a great price and are such nice people. I have a driveway that will last for decades and looks beautiful. You can't ask for more than that. Obviously they are highly recommended.
It went great! Michael came out to give us an estimate. He seemed very knowledgeable on driveways. He gave us and estimate and said it would be done the following week. They came out the next Thursday to start and finished Friday, early afternoon The double driveway blacktop was ripped up (all 3 layers). It include a walkway on the side of our home. They did a wonderful job! I had one car that could not get in and out of the driveway, because of a dip at the end and humped in the middle (due to all the layers). We now have no trouble with getting the car out and it is a beautiful job!!!! Can't say enough about how Ken runs his business and the men he has working for him. They were all hard workers, polite, curtious and did a high quality job! I highly recommend Asphalt Services!
