Lex went above and beyond. Our heater was shutting off exactly after 7 minutes, and we were initially told it was a thermostat or wiring issue. Lex took the time to properly diagnose the problem and found the real cause: an oversized HVAC system that was overheating and shutting itself off. He adjusted the system pressure to bring it within the required range, which was especially important since the unit is located in a closet. Lex was patient, transparent, and clearly knew what he was doing. The issue is finally resolved, and I would specifically ask for Lex again without hesitation.

Responsive company, but be cautious with their diagnosis and pricing. My 12 year old Rheem furnace wasn't producing heat, and the technician concluded it needed both a control board AND a gas valve, quoting $1,200 ($275 parts, $925 labor for a ~2 hour job). I was skeptical, so I got a second opinion from another reputable company. Their diagnosis: only the gas valve needed replacing, which they confirmed by tracing the 24V signal through the ignition sequence. Total cost with them: $500, less than half of Astera's quote, and for the correct repair. I'll give credit where it's due. Their $65 diagnostic fee is genuinely fair and I'm glad they're keeping it. But that's where the good value ends. A $925 labor charge for a two hour job, on top of a misdiagnosis, is hard to overlook. The pricing system overall is just out of whack. On top of that, their quoting process is unorthodox. The initial quote was simply $1,200 tied to two parts with zero breakdown of labor vs. parts. I had to specifically ask in order to get a clear understanding of what I was actually paying for. That lack of transparency upfront is a problem. Astera may be responsive and have great reviews, but I'd strongly recommend getting multiple bids before committing. An inflated or inaccurate diagnosis can cost you big.

I had Astera come out to diagnose what was wrong with my washing machine. They made it very clear that there would be a diagnostic fee, which I was completely OK with. My issue was that Vlad, the tech they sent, was at my residence for less than 5 minutes. He accurately diagnosed that my washing machine was semi-broken (which I knew), and told me specifically that the rear bearing was broken and the outer tube and rear inner bearing need to be replaced. He recommended that I just buy a new machine. I wasn't quoted repair costs, or given an estimate of repairs, just told it was broken, and to go buy a new one... I understand that may be the professional opinion, but it's not professional to spend less than 5 minutes at a house call, collect a diagnostic fee, and leave. It left me with the impression that they just came to collect the fee.
