Bachert Builds

We have used Chester several times in the past and he has always performed outstanding work. This time as has been his standard he took 50% downpayment of our total project price at contract signing and told us that he would be ordering our cabinets and window and that work would be starting either the 13th or at the very latest today. Over the last couple of weeks, after Chester telling us he had ordered the cabinets, but being evasive over the confirmation number and making excuses of it being back at the office etc., which was out of character for him, it eventually came to light when we reached out to the kitchen designer / cabinet supplier that Chester was not paying for other projects and so they would not order our cabinets without all his back money owed being paid and 50% down on our job. Chester has continued to promise he is taking care of it. Nothing has been done. We have since spoken to a granite supplier and another new cabinet distributor who have both told us they will be happy to work with us directly but will not order for his projects because he owes them money as well. So we have paid him a substantial sum of money and he has done absolutely nothing to date.

Avoid – over-promises and grossly under-delivers. More than 90% of total project cost paid; project now halted, less than approximately 25% complete. Cabinet installation halted mid-way due to lack of payment by Chester; flooring never installed; counter-tops, sink and faucet never ordered; electrical sub threatening a property lien. Chester claims to have paid what he owes, but has not provided any documentation. While Chester started off being very accommodating and customer-focused, he very quickly became increasingly evasive. We certainly would not use again. Again, avoid.

The service is absolute horrible. He took my money, and is not doing anything. I have no plumbing, electrical outlets, and no stove in my kitchen. I have contacted him Friday to let him know I will be taking legal action, and he said that his painters and carpenters will come Monday. They never came! I call him about it and he told me 'don't worry about it'.

We paid him $28,000 and is gone. He did a good job last year with good sub contractors. This year, he took our money and is gone. We found out we could not get our granite because the granite company refuses to work with him. Granite company said they would do the work for $11,000. We told them we already gave the money to Chester. He is a man of his word and we don't understand what is going on.

Everything was very good. There is still one piece that is not finished, so I am a little bit disappointed with that one piece. Other than that, he did a good job. I am still in contact with him. He still owes me a mirror.

Chester made all the arrangements, though we did some shopping around ourselves beforehand. He told us which granite supplier/installer (of those we had already visited) he preferred , and why he felt that particular supplier/installer was his preference. He also pointed us toward his preferred tile shop ... having used Chester previously for another project, we trusted his judgment on this. He met us at both the tile shop and the storage yard of the counter top supplier to not only help us pick out what we wanted (granite design, and tile color/pattern), but also arranged for the consultant at the tile supply shop to meet with us at the same time. He also pointed us toward a plumbing supplier for our sink ... again, one of those suppliers whom we had already visited as part of our preliminary research during the earliest phase of our decision-making process to undertake this countertop re-do project. Once we selected all of our primary components (granite slab, tiles, sink + faucet), a start date was set, along with an expected finish-by date. Demolition took less than 1 day. Somewhere along the 2nd or 3rd expected day of work, a day (or part of a day) was lost (can't remember why) - but that did not impact the completion of the project. I had two concerns going into the project. One was whether the existing cabinet frame would support a new, much heavier counter top. The original counter top was a laminate ... probably not 1/10 the weight of a granite top. Chester said that he would have additional structural supports installed to help with that added weight. The other concern I had was about the sink we wanted to use ... the manufacturer's specs for the size of cabinet opening we would need for the sink to fit, indicated that we would not be able to use the sink we wanted, and would have to get a smaller one, which in this case would be significantly smaller if we wanted to stay with the same sink material (granite composite). Chester was quite certain that the sink (we wanted as our first choice) would fit, even if it meant a little shimming here or there. When it came time to install the sink, it dropped right into place without any adjustments needed, as Chester had felt it would ... another example of his judgment being correct. In the end, the final cost was a bit more than what we expected, but everything looked great, Chester was always available - just a phone call away, if needed; the job was done in a professional manner, and clean-up every day left the adjacent areas of the house completely livable.

<p>Chester and his subs were very efficient, professional and did excellent work. They were always on time and were prepared to work immediately upon arrival, no wasted time. The projects were completed in the allotted time and the work was well beyond our expectations.</p> <p>I would highly recommend this company and Chester Bachert for any remodel job big or small. Chester was great to work with, very helpful keeping me on budget and on schedule. He used vendors I had used before so I knew quality of their products. I knew what I liked so that moved fairly quickly. Had to have functional bathroom for Christmas so he made sure that happened. They used drop clothes through the house during whole process. <br /> We had a couple of hang ups . The size tile on the walls was as large as the floor tiles. The bathroom is narrow . In places tile was not as flat as I would have liked, because of the size when they are baked they have cupping. A smaller tile wouldn't have done that. Larger format looks great. The other was where electrician installed fixtures over the sinks too low for glass trim and mirrors chosen. Decided I didn't want lights any higher so mirror change was answer which Chester did on New Years day. <br /> As a widow it was comfortable having Chester do all the scheduling ,discuss process, and answer my numerous questions. I do have a have questions about New Hanover 's shortage of inspectors! <br />

Chester was very professional in all of our dealings. Excellent communications and responsiveness. Excellent work quality. We were very happy with the quality and price of the work. We would definitely use him again. <br />

Chester did a remodel on our master bathroom. The results were excellent. Chester helped with the design & planning, making recommendations of things that would work & highlighting things to stay away from. He was able to suggest a number of local suppliers to visit to get ideas and once we selected our choices he priced everything out and advised us on items that we could look at to adjust the final price without sacrificing quality or the design. Chester was accurate with his estimate vs final price & schedule; he also freely advised me on many things around the house that he was not working on. There was a minor problem at the end of the project and Chester was very accommodating in fixing it. Furthermore, Chester is very personable and a pleasure to deal with. Should we undertake anymore projects in the future, we will certainly use Chester. Therefore, I highly recommend Chester Bachert for your project.   <br />

Chester came to see what we needed done, he measured and gave us a proposal immediately.   He was very clear and direct in what they would do.  <br /> He gave me a list of the tiles I needed to have here for them to tile.  We were ready to start and they were here within days.  <br /> Chester and his guys were here each day when they said they would be.  The work was done very timely and professionally and very well.  We hired them to do our tile work and when our carpenter did not show up Chester came through to build walls, hang sheetrock, tape and spackle the walls vented the shower fan, and install the vanity.  He didn't miss a beat; everything was like clockwork.  <br /> They did great work!  We are already planning our springtime project with Chester. <br /> We highly recommend Bachert Builds. <br /> <br />

Chester was absolutely professional.  We had a lot going on in our home during this renovation, and Chester was cooperative with all of the other contractors who were there at the time.  His responsiveness is lightning fast, and he is thorough in explaining the job and the cost.  Quality is A+.  We have a large project in mind for the coming year, and we hope to have Chester and his crew back to do another amazing job! <br />

Pursuant to a recommendation by a kitchen designer, my wife and I met with Mr. Bachert.  We knew that everything in the kitchen space had to be replaced, including flooring, electrical and lighting, plumbing, appliances, etc.  During the meeting, Mr. Bachert explained to us his recommendations and pricing.  He did not hold back.  We were impressed by his immediate response to our questions and his straightforwardness.  I should note that I have a better than average knowledge in such matters, having remodeled two homes.  My wife and I had no problem with what Mr. Bachert told us about the quality of materials he would use and the workers who would do the various jobs.  He assured us that required official inspections would be done timely as required. Most important was the quoted price - "right on the money," so to speak.  It was exactly the amount I estimated.  We contracted with Mr. Bachert the next day when he presented his proposal.  The work began timely, giving my wife and me opportunities to choose tiles, appliances, etc.  It was obvious to us that the workers were a team and performed that way.  Although there were unfavorable surprises as the old kitchen was torn out, the workers handled such obstacles as routine.  There was never a time when my wife voiced concerns that were not immediately put to rest, and I must say that she inspected almost every detail and asked questions along the way.  The renovated bathroom was a snap - couldn't be more attractive.  We are greatly pleased with our new renovations.  Oh yes, several friends and neighbors stopped by to see the progress of the work being done, and inspected the completed job.  All of them have told us they were impressed by the quality of work and attractiveness of our kitchen and bathroom.  One couple has requested Mr. Bachert to prepare a proposal to renovate a section of their home. <br /> While the work was being done, my wife and I agreed that it would be a good time to seriously consider the major addition that we had thought and talked about for a long time.  Mr. Bachert, said "sure" he could do what we describe to him.  He gave us a ballpark idea of costs, including surveys, permits, and other requirements.  That, too, was favorable, considering our budget.  Today, we signed another contract with Mr. Bachert. <br />

After getting all the permits things went very smooth and fast.   I would recommend Bachert Builders to anyone.  He is a person who you can trust to do an excellent job. <br />

Chester was awesome. We needed some trim installed under our cabinets and bar after having new countertops installed. Chester was extremely professional, courteous, and reasonable even though this was a small job. We were in a pinch with an unfinished kitchen and company coming for the weekend when we called Chester. He promised us that he would work us into his already full schedule and get the job done before our guests arrived. True to his word, he came and worked his magic and we got loads of compliments over the weekend about how good our kitchen looked. What sets him apart from other contractors we've worked with is that he took time to explain what he was doing and made sure he gave us every option available to make it look <em>exactly </em>the way we wanted. We're keeping his card on the desk and we won't hesitate to call him again or recommend him to our friends. <br />

<p>Chester is just what we wanted as a contractor. He took ample time to discuss our needs and offered many suggestions that we hadn't thought of. He offered for us to look at a job in progress near us that he was working on so that we could see the quality and nature of his work. We listened to two other contractors and their estimates, but we thought that Chester was extremely knowledgeable about all facets of things that concerned us including the all important esthetics. When we decided to select him as our contractor, he came back at appointed time with a thorough contract that he allowed us to amend to our satisfaction. Very professional and easy to do business with.</p> <p>Once work began, his crew (plumber and tile installer) came every day on time, laid protective floor covering everywhere needed-especially important in the tear-out of the pre-existing bath fixtures and appliances. The workmen were always careful about not making messes and always leaving each day so that we didn't feel like we were in the middle of a war zone ( I've been there before with other prior renovations!). As is normal, there were a few surprises about the existing plumbing lines that required decision making on our part. Once assessed of the options that included code requirements, our preferences were honored.  As things progressed, we were often consulted about our preferences about this and that.</p> <p>When work was complete, there were no surprises, and no disappointments. We got what we hoped for and expected.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br />The work was of high quality and done right. My spouse and I are-at least perfectionist-to some degree and we were both happy.</p> <p>Some months later when there were several issues of pretty minor consequence-but important to us-Chester responded immediately-no put-offs, excuses, or other common rationalizations. He returned with his plumber (at least an hour or more away from us) and took care of the small issues we wanted.</p> <p>I've always believed that you get what you pay for...and with Chester we got that and my wife and myself are very happy to recommend him-and recommend him highly.</p> <p>David & Barbara Merkle</p> <br />

Chester is a superbly skilled and talented contractor, more than professional, and a perfectionist in every step of the process from job estimate to final punch list. He really listens to what you want and makes astute recommendations. He's extremely responsive to any phone calls, texts, or emails. <br /> I have contractors in my family but they live on the west coast so I?ve been searching for a great general contractor for quite some time. Thank goodness I found Chester so I could finally get my renovations done!  He?s not only a superior skilled tradesman but his prices are fair and he truly wants his customers to be happy and goes the extra mile to make sure that happens. He has a tremendous crew who are also meticulous and he stands behind every bit of work that is done.
