It was a terrible experience; the company was unprofessional with poor quality and service. The entire installation was a headache with one problem after another. The sun room has also had numerous problems after installation; including multiple leaks. I have had to pay another contractor to fix many problems along the way and now the company wants to charge me $2500 minimum to repair a serious leak. I would absolutely not recommend this company for anything!

For a very small co., they have a lot of complaints at the BBB in the last 2 yrs., and BBB noted a temporary suspension of their contractor's license in 2015. They sold me a quality product and did an excellent install, however ever thing else was not worth the project. Told me before signing the contract it would be a month turn around to install. Signed the contract on 10/31/15 and finally installed 7/1/16--it only took 30 minutes to install. They didn't return phone calls. They didn't call with up dates. The solar shade was shipped ready to install. They didn't order my product until months after I paid 50% down. They sent me a letter dated 2/2/16, that I got 2/17/16, saying "communication is our #1 priority" and a list of of possible excuses for the delay. I called about the letter and got no return call. Other complaints at BBB also got a similar letter and had similar issues in dealing with this co. I got a pattern of lies and excuses in my dealings with them about the status of my order with the mfg..

This project was started in February 2015 and was completed in June 2016.
Clint Hansen represented the company initially in February 2015; he presented himself and the company as professional with a high-level of integrity. I was excited about the project and felt confident working with Portico so I signed the contract and paid the deposit, which was 35% of my original contract price ($4800). It all went down hill from there.
When I had not heard from Clint for several months about the progress of my project, I reached out to the owner of the company. No response. There was a front line employee that I spoke with whenever I called the company phone number; her name was Denissa. She was very nice and kept assuring me that she was giving him my messages. In July 2015 I earned from Denissa that a building permit had not yet been obtained. At that time, I was dealing with some health issues and could not add to my stress by continuing to pursue this project so I requested that my project be placed on hold temporarily. I still had not heard from Clint or the owner of the company. I decided that I did not want to pursue this project with Portico. I requested a refund. There continued to be no response to my phone calls or emails until August 18, 2015 when I received this email from Clint:
Sent: Tuesday, August 18, 2015 12:05 PM
To: Portico MN
Subject: Re: Portico MN Form Submission
Jennifer,
I apologize that no one has contacted you. I had delegated the phone call, but obviously that call was not made.
I am on vacation this week but I have put it on my calendar to call you Monday. Again, I apologize about the lack of response.
Clint
Sent from my Verizon 4G LTE Smartphone
----- Reply message -----
Subject: Portico MN Form Submission
Date: Tue, Aug 18, 2015 11:56 AM
Item of Interest: - Porches/Sunrooms
How should we contact you? - By Email
When Should I Contact You: -
Your Message: - Hi Clint, I know your time is limited and your services are in great demand, but I was hoping to have a follow-up discussion with you about my situation. I requested that my project be placed on hold for now because of health issues. I did not foresee these issues and I am terribly sorry for the inconvenience. Of course a refund for the monies I paid to your company is ideal for me, but I realize that your company has invested in my project and I would like to know what I have paid for up to this point. Is there something you can send me that itemizes the project expenditures? I would have preferred talking to you about my project, but I don't know what to think about the fact that you have not returned my calls from 8/14, 8/6, 7/23, 7/22, and 7/22. Please call me or reply to this email so that I may know my options for canceling or concluding this project. Thank you, Jennifer
____________
After the Clint returned from his vacation he did not call. I reached out to him via email repeatedly. I did not give up. We finally coordinated a time to meet and discuss options for my project. Clint and I met on September 12, 2015 and came to an agreement on a 6' x 10' patio cover, which is what Clint estimated will be a project that fits the cost of what I have already paid to Portico ($4800).
Clint arrived on time for our sales call. He was prepared with information and samples and provided guidance when needed. We wanted to think about the purchase, since it was an expensive shade option - he did try really hard to get us to make a decision before he left. I wasn't crazy about that - it felt pushy. Clint was very upfront about the cost being more than most awning companies, but he did all the measuring and the product is a quality product. We liked the product and the Angie's List discount that was offered, so we called him back within a couple of weeks and made the purchase.

The installers arrived on time and were very careful to remove all the deck furniture before starting work. They cleaned up after themselves and put the furniture back when finished.

Our awning is quite large - 30 feet long. It does a great job of shading our deck and looks very nice. It's motorized; the wind sensor is great since it almost takes care of itself. We would definitely get an awning again and would recommend this company

While I am happy with the final product, the process was fraught with lack of communication, errors and delays. The project was finished well over a month after I was promised. During the building, the workers knocked my satellite dish off alignment requiring a technician to realign it. They also put a screw through my internet phone line requiring a service visit from comcast. I had rain come into the house because they did not secure the roof during building it. I never knew when or if they were coming. i would call the office and ask why they were not working on my sunroom and would be told they didn't know where the workers were. Numerous times I was told someone would call me and no call came. Lastly they wanted final payment before the work was completed which I did not do I am still waiting for them to pour a new concrete pad at the bottom of the deck steps as requested by the inspector. So far they have not responded. The parent company Craftbilt was no better. i spoke to their customer service regarding all the hassles and errors and they promised someone would call----no call came.
They were supposed to come within a month and they came in two and a half months. When I try to reach them a couple of times to change the color, I couldn't reach them. By the time I finally got hold of them, they already got the materials. I just went ahead. I spoke to the owner of the company, I was hoping because of the almost one and a half delay, I was hoping that he can reduce the amount but he did not do anything about it, any product or any incentive to make me feel better. The price is okay. I would not use them again because of what they did.

I met with the salesman on May 5, signed the contract on May 7 which included a June 16 start date, July 5 finish date. The start date was changed to June 30th, then July 28. Long story short, the project was finally completed December 31. There were multiple errors, delays, and poor communication. Most of the delays were due to an out of state engineer who is not very responsive, or so I was told. I am pleased with the finished product, and the cost, but the process was grueling. As time went on the communication did improve, and the workers were very nice. I've been told by the owner that many lessons were learned during my lengthy project, which should have been done in 2 1/2 weeks according to the salesman.
Follow up: it's spring 2015 and the subfloor under the linoleum is buckling, which is not surprising. It was left exposed to sitting water for months during construction due to extended delays. It was buckling after that, and all that was done was sanding the raised areas, which was not a solution based on the outcome. I'm in contact with the owner, Clint, regarding this problem and will follow up on how it is delt with. Clint came and looked at and photographed the issue, we decided to see if it gets worse, and if so, implement a repair.
Follow up 2: now that it's warm we noticed many bugs in the sunroom, and discovered that the screen guards were not installed, creating a bug freeway on every door and window, reported this to Clint, waiting now for this to be taken care of, no ETA has been given...

We had a great experience, from our initial meeting with Robert to discuss the bid, to our interactions with the work crew who were working at our house for over a month. Everyone at Portico has been very responsive and a did a great job meeting our needs and adjusting to the unforeseen complications that come with finishing the basement of a 70 year old home. We were extremely pleased with the end result and use our new basement all the time!
I have submitted a prior report citing the issues we encountered with Portico. However, I want to rectify that report and replace it. Clint Hanson, owner, met with us yesterday and accepted full responsibility for the costs we incurred to correct a plumbing problem caused by his employees, as well as some major inconveniences they caused. My husband and I were deeply impressed with Clint's willingness to accept responsibility, incorporate new practices into his business and his commitment to righting the situation. We would probably use him again since his overall work was good and his is willing to discuss and take responsibility for these issues.

They did not provide me with an architect drawing until we were all done. I never really knew exactly what was going on. The salesman that came out to my house gave me a contract but didn't give me the things we talked about in the price. The owner of the company found out about this and fired the salesman and put the project manager on my case, but he was hard to work with. It was also very expensive and I was dissatisfied with the end project. I would not use them again nor advise anybody to use them.

The crew was extremely punctual and professional. They kept us well informed and were a pleasure to work with. Completely remodeled basement. Our basement had some moisture issues - smelled mildewy. Totally gutted basement, put in a sump pump and drainage tile, redesigned set-up to be more efficient than before. The job was completed 4 months ago, and so far, very dry, no mildewy smell, and I love the way it looks. Has almost doubled our living space. It took a little longer than I expected -- ran into a few issues, but the end result is very nice. I would use this company again.

Clint Hansen, the president, worked thru the quote and proposal with us, then communicated regularly with us on progress, etc. The building crews worked efficiently thru fall and winter. Made great progress against the quoted schedule. Work changes were executed well with the foreman and Clint, some smaller ones on the fly. Responsive to come back and adjust things where needed. Cleared up work area daily. Installed new sod where work vehicles had damaged the lawn. Subcontractors (electrical, HVAC) did good work as well. Payment plan in 3 phases. Took care of city permits and inspections. We installed carpeting ourselves but they came back to install baseboards afterwards.
Good company to work with, great value for the cost.

Met salesman at RV Show in Minneapolis we were impressed with awning they were showing, made an appointment for an estimate.

At the appointment we determined an awning would not do what we wanted and it was suggested to install a canopy with sun screen,
We were satisfied with everything so we ordered the canopy. Chris the installer scheduler called to make an appointment for April 5th. About a week before the install, Chris called and said they would not be able to come until April 6th, this worked out for us, no problem.

On the day of install they arrived on time, did the work, were extremely good about making sure the area was clean. They werer pleasant, installed the canopy and were gone after a few hours. They were great and were so impressed we asked for estimate on another product. The experience was very positive!

I hired Portico to replace three footings on a sun room/screened porch that had lifted over the winter. They did a fantastic job. The structure was installed by a different company who didn't seem to have a clue how to properly fix the problem. I met Clint Hanson at the Anoka county fair and explained the problem to him. He came to my house the following Tuesday to discuss the job and cost. He explained what had to be done and reassured me that he could fix it and fix right. The job involved removing the existing screen porch, cutting out a section of the cement slab, removing three support footings, installing three new footings and patching various holes and finish work. The job was completed in less then two days. At the end of each day the workers cleaned up the area and made it look like they hadn't even been there. When the job was complete they even washed the entire area with water leaving it cleaner than when they started. I couldn't be more pleased with the quality of work and the professionalism of the staff. As for price, you get what you pay for. I'd rather pay a little more upfront for quality than pay for the same job a second time. Excellent job Portico.
