First, I would like to point out that I am not a person who usually does reviews, but on the other hand I usually research something in great depth before making a purchase, of any kind so I decided to post a review to help someone else trying to find a flooring company since I had a hard time deciding. The following review is my honest assessment of my experience with this company from start to finish so you can make an informed decision. Here it goes.
I purchased my wood flooring myself with the intent to install it myself. After I had the entire install area cleared of old flooring and baseboards removed (minus the laundry room linoleum), I suffered a knee injury that would prevent me from doing the install like I planned. I did some research, called a couple of places, and decided to give this company a shot. I called the company the first day and left a message when it went to voice mail. Joe (the company owner) called me right back (not even 2 minutes later) and we discussed what I was looking for and we proceeded set up an appointment for an estimate. They were very flexible and were willing to come out to my house whenever I would be available. We scheduled the estimate for a couple days later, but that was only due to my schedule, they probably would have come out that evening if I wanted them to. When the day came, the estimator (i forget his name) arrived a few minutes late, but during the time of my appointment, I know there is usually traffic so I wasn't concerned about him being tardy. The gentlemen came in, we discussed that I was looking for a company to do a glue down installation of flooring that I already had and I had all the material, I just needed someone to install it for me. The gentlemen took his time, went around to each room and did a very detailed measurement of the entire area. I had previously measured the same areas for when I ordered my floor, and his measurements were actually a little less than mine, so I was comfortable that they were honest and were not trying to fluff the numbers to be able to charge me more. He wrote up the estimate and included an Angies list discount since I mentioned I found them on this web site. After thinking it over for the evening, I called the next day to let them know that I was interested in going with their company for the install. The gentlemen met me at my house later that evening to sign the contract. When he arrived, he opened his briefcase and could not find any contracts available. He asked if we could modify the estimate form he did the night before and make it into a contract, and I was ok with that since I wanted to get the process started and not have to meet him again at a later time to sign a contract. I signed the contract and they agreed to start the work 2 and a half weeks later since they had a little bit of a backlog, which I was fine with.
Now that I found out a co-worker of mine actually has the same exact floor and it was glued down as well, I realize that the company that did his did a few things different that I will point out as I go. When they came out and did his estimate, they performed a water content test of his slab to ensure his slab was good and had no issues. During that test, they found that he needed a repair done (which he did himself) and then proceeded to do the job once it was fixed. At no time, did my company ever mention to me that they would like to do a water content sample or anything like that. I take some blame myself as I did not bring it up and didn?t do the prior research, but I would expect the flooring company to at least mention it so they would know everything was optimal for the work to be completed adequately and not rely on the customer. Also, as I was signing the contract, I asked if the glue I was purchasing was adequate (Bostiks Best) and if they recommended a better or different glue. I mentioned that I was buying a urethane based adhesive since I read it has water proofing qualities in it as well and the gentlemen doing the estimate and contract did not know if this was a good glue and wasn?t sure if it was different than Polyurethane (the sealer for furniture and like items). I didn?t pay it too much attention since he was just the estimator, but I found it odd that they could not recommend any adhesive and left it entirely up to me to figure out. But maybe he realized that I had already did my own research and would not try to sell me subpar glue possibly, I am not sure. Either way, we went with Bostiks Best and I told them that it would be available when they arrived to start work. They arrived about 30 minutes late the day they were starting the job and the installers arrived along with the owner Joe. I talked to them and we decided on how we would like the floor laid and a few different decisions were made on the spot before they were going to start work. Honestly, I would have preferred that some of those things were asked before that morning so we had a little bit longer to decide, but overall everything went well the first day. I arrived home that evening and found that they had made decent progress and ensured the boards were taped together to ensure they would set properly and keep from spreading apart. I didn?t really want to walk on the floors because I didn?t want to mess anything up, but I did notice that there were quite a few spots that the glue was coming up from between the boards. I figured that they would clean up as they went, but since they were the professionals, they knew what was best and easiest. The next day, I expected that they would clean up the glue from the day before so it wouldn?t cure on the finish of the wood, but when I arrived home from work, I realized they just continued working and left the glue as it was and that they decided to finish the entire job and then worry about the clean up on the last day. I was able to walk on the first area of floor that was installed by the time I got home on the second day since it had cured and I noticed that there were quite a few places where there were decent sized gaps between the boards. I actually came home the second day a little early because my wife called me (she was home during the whole install) and mentioned that she thought the main installer was going to quit because it looked like him and the owner Joe were not getting along and they were talking in the owners vehicle for a really long time. By the time I got home, Joe was still there and the installer was back installing my floor. I could tell that there was an issue between them, but I didn't mention anything since they continued to work on the install. Joe mentioned to me that there areas in which the gap wasn?t acceptable to him and that he would make sure it was good before they left the job. They finished the install on the 5th day as the said they would when we started the job, but they spent another 2 days trying to clean all the cured adhesive from the floor that was never cleaned up as they went so they were having a hard time cleaning it up. I finally realized after watching them attempt to clean the floor for 2 days that nothing they were doing was going to completely get the floor clean and I was afraid that they were going to damage the finish on the prefinished wood. I mentioned my concern to Joe and he said he would just refinish the floor if needed if it gets damaged. I really did not want to have my brand new floors refinished before I used them for 1 day. I decided I would just sign off on the job being complete and let them finish before any permanent damage was done to my brand new floors. During my cleaning, I notice many areas where the boards had a big gap that they used some sort of filler to hide it but the filler never hardened so it will slowly wipe away each time the floor is cleaned until
