My 1970's house had carpet installed over hardwood floors. When I bought it, the previous owners had ripped up the carpet to reveal those floors in need of repair. Mr. Biernot filled the many nail holes and refinished the floors beautifully. I have gotten many compliments on the beautiful matte finish. Highly recommend.

Everything went great! We had our 50+ year old oak hardwood floors refinished and had new hardwood installed in the kitchen and office. Everything match perfectly. I would definitely recommend Biernot Flooring.

We cannot dissuade others from using Biernot Flooring strongly enough. We had several problems with this company, which are detailed below. In retrospect, it is embarrassing that we let ourselves be taken advantage of by this company. However, we hope that the details below will help others avoid the same problems that we did.
(1) Punctuality - Start of Project
The project was slated to begin on June 26 and be completed within three weeks. On the day that the project was to begin, nobody showed up at our home and we did not receive a phone call. We had to call them. They started approximately two weeks late on July 9.
(2) Punctuality - End of Project
We were lied to several times about the company's ability to complete the project in a timely manner.
* Wednesday, July 17 - we were told the project would be completed at the end of the week
* Friday, July 19 - we were told the project would be completed at the end of the following week
* Tuesday, July 30 - we were told the job would be done and they would be out of our house by Saturday, August 3
* Thursday, August 1 - confirmed that they would be finished on August 3
* Friday, August 9 - project would be completed by Tuesday, August 13
* From August 30 to September 19 - company repeatedly missed appointments to come by and do finishing work on project; company also did not oversee installation of glass shower doors by subcontractor, allowing the subcontractor instead to enter our home unaccompanied/unattended
* September 21 - finishing work largely completed; company fired after alleged theft by employee
(3) Inability to Manage Costs
Ten days into the project (July 19), the company requested an advance on the final draw because of financial issues. We reached a compromise and paid a partial advance of the final draw with the understanding that the project would be completed within about the next week. As detailed above, this deadline was not met.
On October 18, 2013, one of the company's subcontractors (glass doors and walls for new shower) showed up at my door to ask if I could help pay outstanding balance. The company had not yet paid its bill and was not returning phone calls.
(4) Quality of Work
By the end of the project, we just wanted this company out of our house so did not go through a detailed final walk through. Thus, certain problems remain, such as uneven tiling and grouting and chips in the paint on the bathtub.
Throughout the project several tasks had to be re-done, due to poor workmanship which the company readily admitted had been completed without experience with the assigned tasks (i.e. tiling). This included re-tiling the shower walls because the tile was cut crooked and installed unevenly and hanging a light fixture upside down.
Moreover, it was not until the end of the project that the company admitted that the person in charge of the project had never been hired to do a job like this before.
(5) Cleanliness
While working in our home one weekend, the company left broken tile and dirt outside of our master bathroom next to our bed in the master bedroom. We encountered this late on Saturday night after returning from being out of town. Company originally promised to come and clean it up on Sunday, but failed to show up until Monday. Company's only excuse was that they were not expecting us to be home.
The company also left a significant amount of tile dust from cutting tile on our deck, which had recently been powerwashed and stain. Portions of the deck still have a white stain.
(6) Possible Theft
An iPad went missing from the area in which the company had been working. The company was cooperative in trying to help recover the stolen device from its employees who were present at the work site and the value of the iPad was deducted from the final bill. But, in later discussions with the company, it stated that another client had recently complained about stolen goods from a home at which these same employees had worked.
Regret using their service for our house. After the first quote we received and before real work began, he did another estimate which is much higher than the first quote. The guy he hired to do the finishing had little experience (couldn't tell satin from semi-glossy) so we had different finishing for different rooms! After we called them back again and again, they first keep applying the wrong finishing until they realized what was wrong and tried to tell us when it dries it would be the same - two completely different finishing!! The people he hired didn't care. We have blotchy finish and hair under the finish that look horrible. We'll have to get it refinished eventually. But we were tired of dealing with them. Don't ignore the red flags, even if you pay a little extra for another quote it'll save you worry and money in the long run.

First, I would like to point out that I am not a person who usually does reviews, but on the other hand I usually research something in great depth before making a purchase, of any kind so I decided to post a review to help someone else trying to find a flooring company since I had a hard time deciding. The following review is my honest assessment of my experience with this company from start to finish so you can make an informed decision. Here it goes.
I purchased my wood flooring myself with the intent to install it myself. After I had the entire install area cleared of old flooring and baseboards removed (minus the laundry room linoleum), I suffered a knee injury that would prevent me from doing the install like I planned. I did some research, called a couple of places, and decided to give this company a shot. I called the company the first day and left a message when it went to voice mail. Joe (the company owner) called me right back (not even 2 minutes later) and we discussed what I was looking for and we proceeded set up an appointment for an estimate. They were very flexible and were willing to come out to my house whenever I would be available. We scheduled the estimate for a couple days later, but that was only due to my schedule, they probably would have come out that evening if I wanted them to. When the day came, the estimator (i forget his name) arrived a few minutes late, but during the time of my appointment, I know there is usually traffic so I wasn't concerned about him being tardy. The gentlemen came in, we discussed that I was looking for a company to do a glue down installation of flooring that I already had and I had all the material, I just needed someone to install it for me. The gentlemen took his time, went around to each room and did a very detailed measurement of the entire area. I had previously measured the same areas for when I ordered my floor, and his measurements were actually a little less than mine, so I was comfortable that they were honest and were not trying to fluff the numbers to be able to charge me more. He wrote up the estimate and included an Angies list discount since I mentioned I found them on this web site. After thinking it over for the evening, I called the next day to let them know that I was interested in going with their company for the install. The gentlemen met me at my house later that evening to sign the contract. When he arrived, he opened his briefcase and could not find any contracts available. He asked if we could modify the estimate form he did the night before and make it into a contract, and I was ok with that since I wanted to get the process started and not have to meet him again at a later time to sign a contract. I signed the contract and they agreed to start the work 2 and a half weeks later since they had a little bit of a backlog, which I was fine with.
Now that I found out a co-worker of mine actually has the same exact floor and it was glued down as well, I realize that the company that did his did a few things different that I will point out as I go. When they came out and did his estimate, they performed a water content test of his slab to ensure his slab was good and had no issues. During that test, they found that he needed a repair done (which he did himself) and then proceeded to do the job once it was fixed. At no time, did my company ever mention to me that they would like to do a water content sample or anything like that. I take some blame myself as I did not bring it up and didn?t do the prior research, but I would expect the flooring company to at least mention it so they would know everything was optimal for the work to be completed adequately and not rely on the customer. Also, as I was signing the contract, I asked if the glue I was purchasing was adequate (Bostiks Best) and if they recommended a better or different glue. I mentioned that I was buying a urethane based adhesive since I read it has water proofing qualities in it as well and the gentlemen doing the estimate and contract did not know if this was a good glue and wasn?t sure if it was different than Polyurethane (the sealer for furniture and like items). I didn?t pay it too much attention since he was just the estimator, but I found it odd that they could not recommend any adhesive and left it entirely up to me to figure out. But maybe he realized that I had already did my own research and would not try to sell me subpar glue possibly, I am not sure. Either way, we went with Bostiks Best and I told them that it would be available when they arrived to start work. They arrived about 30 minutes late the day they were starting the job and the installers arrived along with the owner Joe. I talked to them and we decided on how we would like the floor laid and a few different decisions were made on the spot before they were going to start work. Honestly, I would have preferred that some of those things were asked before that morning so we had a little bit longer to decide, but overall everything went well the first day. I arrived home that evening and found that they had made decent progress and ensured the boards were taped together to ensure they would set properly and keep from spreading apart. I didn?t really want to walk on the floors because I didn?t want to mess anything up, but I did notice that there were quite a few spots that the glue was coming up from between the boards. I figured that they would clean up as they went, but since they were the professionals, they knew what was best and easiest. The next day, I expected that they would clean up the glue from the day before so it wouldn?t cure on the finish of the wood, but when I arrived home from work, I realized they just continued working and left the glue as it was and that they decided to finish the entire job and then worry about the clean up on the last day. I was able to walk on the first area of floor that was installed by the time I got home on the second day since it had cured and I noticed that there were quite a few places where there were decent sized gaps between the boards. I actually came home the second day a little early because my wife called me (she was home during the whole install) and mentioned that she thought the main installer was going to quit because it looked like him and the owner Joe were not getting along and they were talking in the owners vehicle for a really long time. By the time I got home, Joe was still there and the installer was back installing my floor. I could tell that there was an issue between them, but I didn't mention anything since they continued to work on the install. Joe mentioned to me that there areas in which the gap wasn?t acceptable to him and that he would make sure it was good before they left the job. They finished the install on the 5th day as the said they would when we started the job, but they spent another 2 days trying to clean all the cured adhesive from the floor that was never cleaned up as they went so they were having a hard time cleaning it up. I finally realized after watching them attempt to clean the floor for 2 days that nothing they were doing was going to completely get the floor clean and I was afraid that they were going to damage the finish on the prefinished wood. I mentioned my concern to Joe and he said he would just refinish the floor if needed if it gets damaged. I really did not want to have my brand new floors refinished before I used them for 1 day. I decided I would just sign off on the job being complete and let them finish before any permanent damage was done to my brand new floors. During my cleaning, I notice many areas where the boards had a big gap that they used some sort of filler to hide it but the filler never hardened so it will slowly wipe away each time the floor is cleaned until

Crappy! Buyer beware and stay away from this business. They Half-a** sanded steps first of all. I had already stripped off carpet, padding, removed 50's / 60's style linoleum, adhesive, and about 4 coats of paint and stain. I had sanded 3 of the 100 year old treads. This idiot comes in, barely sanding the remaining treads and staining over top of old paint drips, nails still sticking out, and the shadow of where the old linoleum had been. As I said, I have photos! They promised a "HD" dog proof sealant supposedly that costs $150 a gallon to protect the finish. NO! We were stupid and took the owner at his word and that part was not on the contract! NEITHER WAS HALF-A** JOB, BUT THAT'S WHAT WE GOT!!! The owner kept saying the stuff was expensive, but that's what we asked for and he stood in my kitchen and promised both my husband and myself that's what we were getting! How about my $$$ for the horse picture you gave your granddaughter? I guess I could go back on my word too... You stole it!
Let's get back to the flooring.... I had used 3 different sanders to be sure I got into the corners and up against the edges. NOT BIERNOT! They used 1 large belt sander, nothing else. When they got to the hallway, just a large orbit sander! No edges, corners, NOTHING! Professional right? Did I mention that I am 60 years old and I did a better job! Have photos showing nasty and dirty corners, even long strands of human hair and brush hairs that were sealed over! There was a ton of dog hair and the dogs have been banned from the area for 7 weeks! You could run you hands over the the hairs and dirt and they were smooth to the touch because they had been covered over with sealant. We refused to pay (had already given $400.00 up front), so they came back to see all the mistakes. The "Operations Manager" just walked around shaking his head, the owner said he overlooked the "shadowing" created by the old linoleum. So they come back, got rid of some shadowing (have more pictures), but still have hairs, dirt, specks of paint that the owner was trying to scrape off with a razor knife yesterday. He said these old houses, stuff seeps up through the old floorboards and surfaces through the cracks. He refused to redo those spots even though he had received all $$$.
I had to suggest hanging plastic in the doorways to prevent sanding dust from getting over entire house on 2nd trip. The 1st time they hung sheet up a one end of hallway. I already had large sheet hung over bannister and railing for work I had done. Also, the old guy that came on day two (and used the bristle brush for entire job) he didn't vacuum after sanding. He put sealant down anyway!
Before you hire this guy, please get in touch with me and I will show you his work! This is an old historic home that was to be showcased in an upcoming Christmas tour.... I am so upset! We plan to have a dining room and living room floor restored soon and it WILL NOT BE THEM!
9/26/13 - just got good look at floor as we were not to be walking on it for 48hrs. Poly was applied to hallway and 2nd step??? The other 14 steps and landing at bottom of stairs are not! One shiny step and 14 dull ones!

Excellent work. Joe took a very worn 100 yr old southern pine floor with gouges, paint, scratches and old stain and made it a high gloss beautiful shiny floor. It has held up very well over the months. He is the only one I will call to do my floors. His only shortcoming is that he is often late or things happen. Fortunately I have a flexible schedule and can live with this. He always explains your options so you understand. They spend a lot of time making it perfect. Joe is an artist as well as a technician
Everyone was extremely helpful and polite. I called to get an estimate and someone came that afternoon. The gentlemen that came did an awesome job on my dining room floor. There was one small place that puddled in the corner and they came back, sanded the place and re-coated the whole floor. They were very professional and I will use them again.

They were on time and removed furniture. Old wood was removed that was ruined by water and replaced by new oak flooring. Then floor was sanded to grain and given new finish so all wood would match. Absolutely beautitul!
Joe is outstanding, courteous, focused and very reasonable priced. He does super work on time and on schedule.
I bought a property in Virginia that had some type of wood floor that seemed solid but looked like trash.
When Joe got through with it I was thinking about moving into the house myself! The floor was drop dead gorgeous. It was beautiful because of Joe's recommendations that I took to heart. The wood was hard white oak.
I plan to use him to restore the remaining flooring in the near future. He's my flooring man.
