This is by far the worst experience I have ever had with any vendor period, not just pool vendor but any vendor I have ever hired for services on any of my properties. I had a quote for $1,075.00 to replace the old filter that I have with the new fiberglass filter and multi-port valve from Residential Pool Services, LLC. I have hired BJ Pool & Spa in the past (have spent over $4,000 in business with them just in the last two years, I even bought ALL my chemicals from as I like the idea of supporting local business vs. enriching some Amazon multi-millionaire...) so I called them to get a 2nd opinion as to whether I really need to replace the filter or not. An owner of the company came and convinced me that I do not need a new filter, that old filter and valve are fine and I should just replace sand with fiberglass and that's that. The quote for this work was $770. I have spent a bunch of money on the pool already this year so I decided to go with the cheaper option. A gentleman came to perform services and came without plumbing material so first had to borrow Teflon tape from me (which I provided free of charge :-) ) and then proceed to complete the work. When he was finished my pool was leaking. Appearently magically my multi-port value was now broken and he was going to try and fix it (he broke it so he'll fix it). He said it he was going to try and replace a small part which was going to be $25 and see if that is all there is to it. In the meantime I have additionally valve on the outlet from the filter which was installed to prevent water from getting out of the pool even if there was a leak in the multi-port valve and the gentleman broke that as well. He replaced the $25 in a few minutes and tested everything out and my pool seemed to be holding onto water. The other broken valve stayed broken and I will have to replace it, in the meantime I have put a cap at the end of it to make sure my pool does not loose water. To make matters even more "fun", after the installation I have had to vacuum the pool three times because the fiberglass from the filter is actually returning back into my pool. Now comes to funnest part of them all, when it came time to pay I was charged ADDITIONAL $250 for "extra time and part" and apparently I have gotten and $200 discount so it costs $400+ to replace a $25 part in less than 10 minutes. I was charged for the time but gentleman that was making repairs had a beer with me and chatted for a while so I am guessing I had to pay for the beer and the time it took to drink the beer all the while he was passive-aggressively hassling me for the tip. All this work being completely botched and me being overcharged insane amounts of money is just insane. I will now have to replace all of it, the filter and valve and broken plumbing so I basically put $1,050.00 down the drain. I will never use BJ Pool and Spas for anything ever in the future. If I had a choice between using them and pouring concrete in and closing the pool for good I would pick the latter.
Response from BJ Pool & Spa
"Mr. [Member Name Removed], I first want to apologize on behalf of BJ Pool and Spa. I have discuss in length with Bob and Bill regarding your service appointment that took place on June 28, 2017. Bob has left you two voicemails and I have left you one voicemail. I would like to discuss your concerns in person or over the phone. I have reviewed your file and according to my books we started doing business in June 2016 to date you have spent $2,816.46. We are thankful for your continued business and I am sorry to hear that you can no longer do business with our company. I would like to repair our professional relationship. The original estimate for the sand change over to glass media was for the amount of $711.87. The total ended up being billed at $1,029.62, which is a $317.75 difference. The main difference in price was due to the time it took for the sand change over to glass to media (labor intense). A normal sand change is a flat fee of $450.00 and it usually takes three (3) hours, however, your filter media change took approximately five (5) hours (Bill arrived at 1:51pm and left at 7:00pm) due to the location of the filter. You have indicated that since the filter media change there has been grit/glass in the pool, according to our warranty terms the work that was completed is covered for one (1) year from the date of installation. We stand by our work and I would to send a tech out to evaluate why the glass media is coming back into the pool. This is the first time you have divulged this information to our office two months after the work was completed. I cannot repair/fix an issue if it's not addressed. The spider gasket needed to be replaced due to wear and tear, overtime, due to moving the handle the gasket becomes worn down and does not sit properly. Therefore, the pool will lose water from the multiport or backwash line. I did not charge you an extra $400.00 for this repair. The spider gasket was $22.95, plus tax and $87.50 for install. Bill indicated that he did use Teflon tape as he ran out on the job site, I would be happy to replace it at no cost. You mentioned a second valve that was "broken" may you elaborate as to what valve you are referring to. In order to remove the sand from the tank the multiport valve needed to be cut in order to have access inside the tank. Bill used pipe, couplings and MTA's from his inventory to re-install the valve. There are some inconsistencies throughout your email and Angies List complaint, which I would like to discuss. It has been two months since the service was performed. Had you notified our office that there was an issue, I would have sent Bill back out to your property to evaluate and rectify the problem(s). However, due to the delay in communication, we did not have the opportunity to stand behind our work. I have not charged your credit card for the balance due as I prefer to have satisfied clients before I process payment. Please call me at 703.323.1333. Thank you."

I wrote this review on yelp and google, but wanted to get it out to as many as possible so no one else makes the same mistake. They were very helpful when it came to me buying the spa but my experience since hasn't been so great. I bought a hot tub in January of 2016. When they were delivering the hot tub, it fell off of their cart and broke off a few piece of acrylic on the tub but lucky not where water would be. Instead of them having to throw away the tub and have me wait for another one to be delivered, I asked if the damage was repairable and if they could take some money off of it since they were going to scrap it anyway. They did say it was repairable but only took off about half of what I was asking but since they said they would repair it as soon as it was warm enough I agreed. And since it was so cold old they said they would come and do a full check of the tub (every side, part etc) to make sure nothing else was damaged. This was a big mistake!!!! I have had to call them dozens of times, showed up to the store a dozen times, and keep getting told that they will get right on it but a year and a half later, my hot tub is still damaged. It is usable but paid a lot of money for a tub that damaged and will likely stay damaged. So be careful with this company as they seem to say whatever to make a sale but will not follow up on anything they said they would afterward.

BJ Pool & SPA is a first rate company. Bob, the owner, has been working with pools for decades and knows everything about pools. He is actually willing to try to repair equipment, unlike many other lesser companies that merely put in new stuff. If you have any issues with your pool and spa, these are the people to call: they will fix anything and will always provide you with the best options. Bill, the specialist who came to work on the unusual configuration of equipment for my small indoor pool and spa, demonstrated a great deal of experience, ability and honesty. BJ Pool & Spa might not seem cheap, however, given their vast knowledge, experience and technical ability, they will provide you with quality service and advice that will save you money in the long run. Their competence and integrity is extremely reassuring. It isn't always easy to find a good pool company (this industry isn't as regulated as other professions), and it took me a while to find this one. BJ Pool will be the company I call when I want honest and reliable service
I had a positive experience with this company and received excellent service from the technician Adam. It was a faulty fuse, which he replaced. He also did a thorough inspection of the tub and made recommendations. Since I'm new in the home and haven't owned a hot tub before, he carefully explained everything that needed to be done in a clear, step-by-step manner. He went through every possible problem that could arise and explained how to prevent it, including circuit board, thermostat, filters, etc (the best way to thoroughly clean the filters, for example). I had some questions about replacing the cover at some time and he explained all the options and prices for that too.

Because the technician said that the particular suction motor that failed on our spa was not a requirement, but a manufacturer's perk that only this one spa manufacturer provides, we save a lot of money by not repairing the motor. The spa works perfectly.
I've been using BJ Pool & Spa for a few years now to open & close my pool. Last year they installed a new sand filter for me and this year a new heater. They have always been prompt, professional and courteous. They never try to upsell or have you do needless work. I've been very happy with their service and would recommend them to anyone!

My pool needed pretty much a rework of all the filtering and pump equipment due to age.

Contacted several companies for quotes. BJ's was in the middle ground pricewise, but 2 of the companies were also sky high on their estimates.

These guys removed all the old equipment, put in a new concrete pad, & installed all new equipment.

They started on schedule and finished when they said they would.

Bill from BJ's did a great job and is very professional as is everyone else there at BJs.

Bob (the owner of BJs) even found me a replacement for my outdated fiber optic light which had not worked in years and had been discontinued by the manufacturers for years as well. Talk about finding a needle in a haystack!

Thanks to all at BJs for the great job!

We were extremely happy with our “new” pool after the B.J. Pool team finished with the rehab. When we
purchased our new home, the old pool had been neglected for years and looked like a polluted black pond. We were amazed with transformation to an incredible clear blue salt-water pool. Pool rehab included total plaster replacement, tile replacement and pool pump equipment.
The B.J. Pool crew were the best and worked incredibly hard to complete the project on schedule for our summer use. We are now in our fourth year, continuing to use B.J. Pool & Spa to seasonally open and close; and provide excellent weekly maintenance of our pool.

The office staff was friendly and setting up the appointment was painless. The technician, Adam, was very friendly and clearly explained the problem and the options to fixing it. He was thorough and professional and didn't try to sell me any services I didn't need, which can be unusual amongst service places in this area. I would definitely use this company again. I was very impressed.
All went very well, even at the late winter date in February. The spa is now clean and preserved until it is needed at the beginning of summer. Very good advice from the gentleman that cleaned the system.
I had used BJ Pool and Spa several years ago so I thought I would try them again. When I called they gave me a date when they could get a tech out to my house that was convenient to my schedule, he arrived on time, fixed the problem and ensured that everything was in good working order before he left. I could not have asked for better service. I would describe them as professional, friendly, reliable and reasonably priced.

They accomplished what I wanted done. I did not like their policy of requiring a credit card number before they even come out. I guess they were stiffed by some customers in the past... As I said above, they are expensive.

"Thank You.... We are pleased that you were satisfied with the service on your Hot Tub... We looked into the issue with the long period of time you had waited for the part and came to the conclusion that your part had been on back order and we were unable to get a firm time on the shipping of said part... We will do better at informing our customers when this matter arises and are thankful you brought this to our attention and remained a customer after the fact. Thank you again !!!"

The spa/hot tub is approximately 12 years old...originally purchased from B J Pool and Spa. It has been well maintained through the years and whenever anything has gone wrong I have called B J Pool & Spa. Their service has been very good. My only comment is their pricing structure. While they do tell you up front that there is a $160 service call charge which includes the 1st hr of labor they do not tell you that when your part finally arrives (if it has to be special ordered) that there is an additional service call charge to come back to complete the work. In my case that was an additional $80. In today's market $160/hr for labor seems a bit high.

Adam, the service person, was excellent and did a good job.
Response from BJ Pool & Spa
"Thank You.... We are happy to hear that we provided you with quality service and that Adam gave professional service while at your home..... To Clarify our billing procedure , $160.00 is billed for the initial Service Call and up to one hour of troubleshooting and repair on our first visit to the home, any additional visits are billed @ $80.00 per 1/2 Hr to complete work for parts that may have needed to be ordered and delivered to complete the repair. Thank You Again !! We will pass on your remarks to Adam !!!"

They were reasonable. The overall service was okay. We were fine with the sales lady; but the owner seems like, when they delivered the Spa there was an issue with what was paid for and what was not paid for. When we contacted the owner about it, he didn't take the ownership. We were happy up until whatever was delivered and there were issues with the pricing. Then once we called to try to solve with him but he actually couldn't act like a big baby so it was not fun. We would not use them again. We will not buy any products from them. We will not use the service from the Spa. We thought like they were really great doing the sales process and the negotiation. They were making us feel like they were going to get good deal and it was just in the end we got really disappointing. The product quality was good.
Response from BJ Pool & Spa
"Members, When we spoke about the delivery of your Hot Tub, I felt that both parties had come to an understanding. The two items that were in question that we both spoke very candidly about, #1 The Cover Lifter & # 2 the electrical being at the hot tub upon delivery. The Sales invoice did not include the Cover Lifter and the electric was not available at delivery. The two items for BJ Pool and Spa to supply and perform after delivery came to a Total of $ 410.00 and we agreed that if you paid $ 200.00, that both parties would be satisfied. So I'm a little suprised by the adverse comments when all was settled and the Members graciously paid the $ 200.00 upon our technicians completion of work. Thank You, Robert M. Seh BJ Pool and Spa"

We had a new motor put in our indoor hottub just slightly over a year ago and had troubles ever since. When the fuse blew AGAIN, and previous company said that part wasn't covered by warranty, we knew it was time for a new company. BJ was very responsive, came out quickly, and replaced two parts that I'm sure had been causing problems for some time.
