A partial diagonal ceiling and uneven walls and floors made this job quite a challange. It took a lot of time an effort for the job, but it is beautiful now that it is done. I am very happy with it and would definately hire him again in the future
I do think that the popularity of Blue Ribbon Industries, especially with the Angie's List Deal, spread him out too much, so it took much longer than necessary. It was finished 6 months after I bought the coupon and over 4 months after the job was begun. However, I was not in a big hurry, and only got a little anxious about the delays toward the last couple of months.
He was very good about making sure I was happy, and said that if I needed any more wire holes or if I had any questions or problems to let him know. He was very friendly and professional.
It took longer than I expected to complete the job, but I had told Werner I was flexible and willing to work with him around his schedule. Werner is very professional, detailed and easy to work with and has a wonderful tendency to stop and fix little things he notices in your home that you are aware of but are currently ignoring or just livving with.

To put it lightly, it went terribly. I recently asked Werner Wall to send me his contractor's license number, but he only emailed me on 5/21/14 that he is working with a licensed contractor "in a partnership arrangement under his license until I have my own." This is the first I had ever heard that Wall himself was not a general contractor. After calling the California State Contractors License Board, I learned that this "arrangement" is impermissible. The work that Wall puts himself forward to do is contracting work under CA Business and Professions Code Sections 7260 and 7260.1 and for that he must have a license. An unlicensed contractor is allowed to perform $500 of work. The agreed upon $17,000 well exceeds this.

After our orally agreed upon finish date of April 1st came and went, I became concerned that this project would not be completed in a timely fashion. I asked Wall numerous times for a completion date, but he refused to give me a date. When I suggested 5/21/14, he only said that he would "try? and then he asked for more money. I have already fronted him $10,000, more than half of the agreed total project price. It is now 5/21 and neither Wall nor any worker has shown up on site for a week.

Wall has refused to provide me with an accounting of the $10,000. He claims that providing a breakdown of where my money has gone would be ?quite time consuming and I feel somewhat unnecessary.? To date, I have purchased laminate flooring, paint, tiles, batting, and fixtures among other materials. Wall refuses to even provide receipts for the materials and labor he purchased.

Wall is rarely on site and when he is, he typically arrives at 1 PM and stays only a few hours. The subcontractors show up sporadically. Because of this, I was forced to call the electrician, the tiler, and the drywaller to ensure that work would progress. I am not a general contractor. It is not my job to schedule Wall?s subcontractors for him. A subcontractor even asked me personally to withhold money from the final payment to Wall because he had not been paid. I did not appreciate being stuck in the middle of a payment dispute, but I confronted Wall about this. I later found out that he had fired the subcontractor for ?embarrassing him.? The only embarrassment is Wall?s inability to manage a worksite and his flagrant unprofessionalism.

I contacted a licensed contractor to take a look at the site. The results were less than good. The floor must be pulled up in order to level it (destroying the laminate I purchased) and the wiring must be redone to ensure that it functions safely (requiring me to tear down the drywall). As a result, the project must be delayed even further so that a licensed contractor can file permits and fix Wall?s work.

I have tried since the beginning of this project in February to stay in touch with Wall to ensure that the work progresses. I have always responded to requests promptly. Wall emailed me to say that it would be ?in everyone?s best interest to reach a peaceful and amicable resolution,? but his words are empty. Wall?s version of an amicable resolution is giving him more money for poor work. He has refused to meet with me to work together on a completion date. Instead, he dodges the subject and will not provide specifics. This is not amicable. This is passive aggressive avoidance.

Wall has caused me to suffer both emotional and monetary damages. As a result of the stress this project has caused me, I ended up in the ER. Now that I?ve discovered that the project must be entirely redone because of sloppy workmanship, I am facing damages that amount to the cost of an entirely new project.

Werner is an excellent craftsman. The quality of his work was wonderful. He had to work around our changed schedule for installation and was gracious about it. He cleaned up every time he came and was very careful to not damage anything in the area.

We used it to refinish some of the doors and drawer fronts on our existing cabinets. We also had Werner change out and upgrade our trash and spice racks. We added a linen cabinet in our kitchen and storage cabinets with counter tops in our laundry room. We had difficulty getting together at the beginning but Werner was very accommodating and professional in working with us. We are very happy with the outcome.

Werner Wall is the owner and the person who does all the work. He is so meticulous and he has great suggestions. He is just so clean about his work. He is extremely professional. When my husband had a really bad balance problem he put in the grab bars and wall mounts for my husband in two bathrooms. They were so difficult. I was literally running all over the place trying to find the particular holders or screws that were needed that goes into concrete and cement and tile. He did a beautiful job and he put a new rail down my stairway. He just does excellent work. He takes his shoes off whenever he comes in. He is a really hard worker. He is almost a sole operator. I've seen other pictures online of what he has done. He has done entertainment systems that are gorgeous. I had a cabinet built because it had to hide the ducting that the heating people put in. So I had to incorporate that ducting into a cabinet to hide the ducting area above and he did a great job. He does care, he has great ideas and he is very thorough. He is pretty busy and he really makes an effort. He calls back and he is so pleasant. I liked him so much he came for thanksgiving. He is such a nice man. He makes great suggestions and he lets you decide.

*Update 5/5/14*

I hired this contractor because he is thorough as I explained above. However, for this current project it has taken almost 3 months. It is a small project, but it has been very difficult to get the work done. I am frustrated because I cannot nail down a completion date. I do not want to be advesarial with this update to the review but to initate action. I have everything ready for the projects and no one shows up to do the work. I have been understanding to this point but the work needs to be done as I have made payments and have been patient. It has become a serious issue.
The cabinet work was great, first rate, very good. Also when he said he was coming he was there, on time, neatly dressed, polite, professional, easy to work with, took care to put work blankets down to protect the floor, cleaned up really nicely before he left, first rate.
That being said, he was just setting up here locally, moving into a new shop and trying to find additional associates to help him, that slowed him down a bit so it took some time to get things done. He seems settled now though, so I doubt you will have any issues on that regard. You know how it is to get things (new shops and all) set up, always takes longer than you think, so I can understand.
But very happy with the results. Great person to work with! seemed very hard working, honest good natured kind of guy!
I really don't think you will regret hiring him to do any work for you!

I desperately needed some extra storage space, so I commissioned Blue Ribbon Woodcraft to build some custom cabinetry/closet space for my craftsman bungalow. I wanted the cabinets to look original to the 1912 structure. After taking measurements and listening to the description of what I wanted, Werner emailed me a scaled sketch of the proposed design. He was very helpful in offering suggestions for the design and configuration of the cabinets. After that he did the initial cutting and construction in his studio, then installed the cabinet interior on site, followed by a couple more visits to install the doors and complete the fine finish carpentry and touch ups. The house is old and has no straight lines, so I am sure there were a number of challenges with installation. As for the end product - I could not be happier, the cabinets are absolutely gorgeous and have provided me with greatly increased storage room (form & function!). I am amazed at how well they match existing original wood trim and built-ins. Highly recommended !!
They are so beautiful! I am absolutely delighted and Mr. Wall is just as nice as he can be. In addition to a great job on sturdy new steps and a lovely bookcase, he took a few minutes to fix my front door (for free) because it wasn't right and he likes doors to be right. He's just wonderful. He meticulously cleaned up after himself at each visit and was so kind and warm. The bookshelves are just lovely.

We have not yet had the job completed. It's going to be another month before the remodel has progressed enough to install the cabinets. So, I will complete the review at that time. Werner has been very responsive and his designs are very good. We are looking forward to the finished products.
To complete the above review, we are happy to report that everything went very well. The remodel in general took longer than expected but that was not Werner's doing. He is always very responsive and generally answers the phone. If he is unable to take the call immediately, he invariably returns the call quite quickly. The same is true of correspondence via email. He does wonderful work, the cabinetry is beautiful and functional. We have received many complimentary comments from our friends and do not hesitate to recommend him. We would definitely employ him should we have similar needs in the future.

From the beginning of this project, Werner listened carefully to our needs and made very helpful suggestions. He gave us detailed drawings and his estimate was very clear and remained a firm price. We felt as if we were partners in the project and he made sure our inputs were addressed.
When we look at the finished product ,we could not be happier and we look forward to working with Werner on a kitchecn remodeling project in the future.
We highly recommend Blue Ribbon.
It worked out very well. Wayne was absolutely responsible and professional. In fact, I'm still using him for some other things that I need to have done. There was no problem with time or anything. He was timely. I didn't have any problems with him at all. Everything looks just the way I wanted. He was punctual. When he said he'd be here, he was here.

GREAT! Could not be more pleased with Werner's attention to perfection and detail. Installation of grab bars in bath was not easy due to our walls and material depth. Werner would not be defeated, thought out of the box and came up
with the perfect answer to a difficult problem. Our floor to ceiling cabinet is perfect. A vent needed to be moved and incorporated into the design to look balanced. Werner made valuable suggestions which made the cabinet perfect. He is very easy to talk to, listens to your ideas and is a complete perfectionist. I will definitely use Blue Ribbon Woodcraft, Werner, again and again.
Werner Wall was consistently prompt and courteous. He properly supervised workers and made sure everything was cleaned up at the end of each day. He carefully inspected the work and was meticulous about how things were done. He understood what we wanted and had great ideas to add to the project, including a layered sink top and a light fixture that he found that was perfect for the design. We were able to reach him easily by phone and he was responsive to our questions. We would happily hire Blue Ribbon Woodcraft again in the future!
Werner is the reason we join Angie's List. He is the consummate professional who clearly loves what he does. I hired him to install baseboard, pretty basic stuff, and he did a great job. While he was here I asked him if he could repurpose a TV cabinet I had that was for a big-screen TV and I couldn't even get a charity group to take it. It also was the only Ethan Allen furniture I had ever bought and it was a beautiful piece. Werner turned it into a beautiful bookcase that I just love and he only charged me $300. I know it was more work than he had expected and I offered to pay more but said absolutely not. Then, he came back to bracket it to the wall and didn't charge me. I will be remodeling the bedrooms soon and you can bet I will hire Werner for the baseboards.
I?ve used numerous contractors for the internal
finishing in this addition to our home and Werner has provided the highest
quality service by far. Werner?s work is exquisite. He worked closely with me
at every point and went out of his way to ensure I was satisfied. All the work
was done from a roughly dimensioned sketch which had to be modified continuously
to match the real dimensions of our bedroom. Werner is a pro who has a deep
knowledge of woodworking and all the methods needed to overcome difficult
problems. I?m planning on using his services on more than one future project.

I contacted Werner because of his positive reviews on Angie's List - He did not disappoint. I had the idea to build an all walnut table from wood that I had personally selected. The design was to be based on a table I saw online. Upon meeting Werner, I immediately knew that he was the right carpenter/furniture maker for the job. His knowledge and experience coupled with his willingness to work with you so that you are happy with the final product made him the ideal choice. Furthermore, he gave me a fixed quote unlike other woodworkers in the area who would only give "loose estimates". Werner was friendly, thoughtful, and interested in involving me in the process of building the table. I could tell that the table was also 'his' table and that he cared about the quality and satisfaction it would provide. I will definitely be coming back for any future projects. The money was well spent and in the end, Werner with his great customer service and superior skills provided me with a table that is now the centerpiece of my home. Thanks Werner!!!
My wife and I don't wear shoes in our house. We wanted to create a mud-room so that we had a place to store and take off our shoes. We searched several websites for inspiration, once we found a design we liked we started the search for a custom carpenter. I heard about Blue Ribbon from a co-worker and reached out to Werner to get an estimate.
Werner traveled to my home to measure the space and review my designs. A week later I met Werner again at a local coffee shop to review the final designs and to agree on a price. We made a few changes and Werner was very supportive. We scheduled the installation for a few weeks out.
Werner did an amazing job on the install, he was very professional and was very neat.
The hallway closets were in a really tight and awkward space. The walls were also not perfectly aligned. Werner fit the cabinets in perfectly in ways I didn't think possible. My general contractor was very impressed with his work. The mud room came out incredible. I will post a picture once I finish sealing the tile sealing. The craftsmanship was far better than we expected for the price we paid. Every single person who has visited our house has commented just how nice this room is.
We were so satisfied with his work that we asked him to come back and replace the front door. and to flip a pre-hung door in our bathroom. He did both of these jobs excellently.
We are very happy with the results.
When we started looking for a cabinet maker to install an entertainment center in our home, we had no idea that we would find one to bring our idea to life.
We had several people come to give estimates on the project and their range in price and options were impressive, but what set Mr. Wall apart was his knowledge and excitement for the job. Right off the bat he was receptive in our idea, and gave us many possible directions to take it. The budget was a big concern to us, and Mr. Wall helped us choose alternate woods and finishes without sacrificing the integrity of the piece. We had a rough idea laid out, we knew we wanted "this and that", and then Mr. Wall took that outline and drafted up what seemed impossible.
He began the project by creating the pieces at his shop which took about a little under two weeks. He stopped by to make sure the stain was exactly what we wanted (since we were matching other furniture in the room), and assured us that the project was coming along swimmingly. The first day he arrived for the install I was a little shocked to see that he was on his own, in past experiences the actual cabinet maker just makes the cabinets and leaves his workers to put the pieces together. With a truck full of what looked like odds and ends of wood I was skeptical of the turn out, but hopeful . He set up in the install area and I was impressed immediately. Any homeowner with hardwood floors cringes at the thought of work being done in the house, someone always scratches the floor, but Mr. Wall took extra precautions and brought thick wool drops that put my mind at ease.
The total install took roughly a week even with a few changes in the moment that we wanted or at the suggestion of Mr. Wall. On the final day we felt like our home had been transformed into a masterpiece, and that "entertainment center" piece quickly became our Mona Lisa. Mr. Wall gave us touch up stain for inevitable scuffs from having a toddler and left the area absolutely spotless, not a single tool nor bit of sawdust left behind. It was hard to believe that those small pieces became this grand whole. It consisted of two large library style bookcases on either side created from stained Alder, and a centerpiece that could be converted later to a bay window lounge. Along the ceiling three arches magnificently accented with crown and each edge matching perfectly. Fluting from floor to ceiling and crown tracing the floor to mirror the splendor above. The grain perfectly complimenting the room and the style is exquisite.
We recommend Mr. Wall for any project great and small, because it was apparent from the beginning that this was more than a job for him; it is a passion that shows in his craftsmanship.
