I hired Blue Sky after they were referred from HomeAdvisor/Angi and contacted me to install an approx. 23x20 ft. paver patio (minus perimeter area and around HVAC), electrical prepping the paver patio, and screening an enclosed porch. Zach was quick to take an initial $4,297.78 deposit (which includes an $3,300 estimate of materials) on July 11, 2024 with a promise of completion by the end of July 2024 (approx. 3 weeks), but slow and inefficient to do the work (if the workers even show up at all). Multiple instances of complete-by and material delivery dates which go unfulfilled. They didn't have materials delivered by their suppliers (such as Lowes or Home Depot) on pallets, but they rather bring everything to the job site from the back of their own pick-up trucks, wasting time on material pickup and unloading. From my security footage of various days over 2 weeks, they first removed the top layer of grass/weeds, then started an edge perimeter of garden variety landscaping border, and begun laying pavers on directly on surface level dirt without using hand tampers to compact the ground. Once I saw their method of laying, I immediately stopped them from continuing due to foreseeing the pavers becoming unlevel in the future with weeds growing between the edges. After the project scope was changed to a standard paver patio install by digging 5-6 inches down and laying a proper paver foundation - I paid another $1,500 deposit for gravel, then $600 for the project scope to include removal of soil, dump fees, compaction, rock install, leveling, sand. The next time workers showed up to start hand digging, I was left with one mountain of dirt in the middle of the project area (which would need to be removed and then dug another 5-6 inches down), and one mountain of dirt outside the fence instead of all being taken out of the area using wheel barrows or a bobcat. No machine ever showed up on my property to speed the process or do the project correctly. I, myself moved approximately 175 pavers from the project area outside the fence after the workers left, so that the workers coming the next day would have a clear unobstructed area to dig. The workers promised by Zach to come the next work day with machines to remove dirt and deliver the gravel, never showed. They eventually did come an put rock into the dug hole, fling rock from their shovels off a truck instead of pouring by wheelbarrow. Nothing was compacted using a plate compactor machine. For a total of $6,402.78 in deposits already paid, I am left with approx. 175 pavers (garden variety 12x12 inch flat pavers you can get for $2 each at Lowe’s), gravel thrown by shovel into the hole about 2-3 inches of gravel, some landscape/grass edging around the perimeter, a mound of dirt/other construction debris (i.e., long metal frames and cans/bottles buried in the dirt) causing major damage and bowing to the fence. The fence portion will likely need to be entirely replaced. The construction debris from their other project brought to my backyard is left buried in a mound of dirt along with cans/bottles, leaning directly on the fence and causing the fence to bow (the fence portion will need to be replaced). After reaching out to other contractors to assess damage and materials, I was told that the 175 pavers are of a quality that would never support the intended weight for a hot tub and gazebo. Those pavers will also need to be scrapped and returned. The owner Zach Audley blames me for being unreasonable for my expectations of the paver project giving excuses of weather, flat tires, other projects going on, but it has already been more than 1 month with it delaying and also affecting my Airbnb business for the enjoyment of my guests.
