The owner personally met with the customer to talk about the job requirements and the price quote. The company was ready to start within a few days of when we accepted the bid. The crew arrived on time. All light fixtures, downspouts, etc. on the surface of the stucco were removed. A trench was dug all around the house to coat the existing stucco down to its base. Repairs and patching were done. I am a particular customer and was present during much of the work. Any occasional oversight by the crew that I observed was easily and quickly resolved. Any windows, rain barrels, etc. that needed to be protected from the stucco materials were well masked/covered. The synthetic stucco color coat was applied in a two step process....first, a hard trowel application and second, a soft trowel application. Many companies would not do both. All patching and original defects were well covered and disappeared. The synthetic coat always was sealed up against any window frame, door frame, etc. After the stucco application was completed, all lights, downspouts, etc. were reinstalled. The clean up of project trash, etc. was completed well, but not as completely as my environmental eccentricities would have desired. But given the quality and speed of the job, I was happy to do the final picky clean up stuff myself. The house now looks better than with the original, traditional, three layer stucco coating. I live quite remotely, so it was decided to use a larger crew. This saved on crew travel down time. A crew of nine was used and the entire job was completed in three days.
The only significant problem that I found after the work was that the louvers of an attic fan would not open. The fan had been covered/masked, but the frame of the louvers was such that even a tiny amount of stucco residue would prevent their opening. I called the evening of the crew's last work day to report the problem. The next morning crew arrived and quickly fixed the problem before noon. Especially in New Mexico, work of this quality is seldom found. The company is located about 60 miles from our home.
All of the work was done as described and in a timely manner. Alvaro (president) explained the process and answered any questions we had. The crew was punctual, courteous and respectful of the property. Windows, doors and vigas were taped off, drop cloths were used where material would splatter. After the completion of the project everything was cleaned up and put back in place. The workmanship is outstanding and the house looks brand new.

My wife and I were in pinch buying a house, and to pass the inspection it needed some stucco repair. I called Al and explained the situation, and out of all the calls I made, I finally felt I reached someone who understood what we were up against and cared. He came out, gave me the estimate, and got the job done!! It turned out better then I was expecting, and when they were finished I couldn't tell there was ever any repairs needed, even though Al had explained up front with the age of the stucco, the color match my be off slightly, it matched perfect!! When my wife and I are ready to change the color of the house there is only one call we are going to make, BLU SKY NM!! They are top notch, and professional, a very rare thing now a days.
Thank you to BluSky, Al and his company!!

I apologize in advance for the long comment. I?ll do my best to impartially lay out the facts of what happened on this contract so that the reader can make their own judgement.

I initially contacted 5 contractors to get bids on re-stucco for my house. The house is large, almost 5000 square feet plus it is surrounded on 2 sides by a stucco wall enclosing the swimming pool and adjoining patios. There are also over 150 windows of various sizes throughout the house. We chose BlueSky for several reasons: 1. Many positive Angie?s List recommendations. 2. Price was in the lower half of the bids received. 3. Mr. Esparza seemed genuinely interested in ensuring our requirements were met. We were told that there would always be a supervisor on site and that Mr. Esparza himself would usually stop by once or twice per day to address any concerns. He assured us that they would clean up after themselves every day after work so that there would be no garbage blowing around the neighborhood. We were told that the job would take 8 days. We increased that in our minds to 10 because we thought 8 overly optimistic. We told Mr. Esparza that we like to be involved in the work that is done at our house and he encouraged that. He told us that since we know the house better than anyone else we should point out any discrepancies. We signed a contract and work was to begin immediately.
At this point I?ll say that as a rule we treat the folks who work on our house very well. We often order lunch for them. My wife will bring them snacks, coffee in the morning, ice water and sometimes even cook them lunch. The workers had no safety equipment and at one point we noticed that they were applying stucco to the underside of a column and stucco was falling into their eyes. My wife supplied them safety glasses. We are also demanding of good work and will point out things that are wrong as soon as we see them so that they can be fixed immediately. We have dealt with numerous contractors this way and have never had a problem. In this case, unlike what was promised, there really was no supervisor on site and we only saw Mr. Esparza twice after work started. At one point we were unable to contact him for 3 days. He later apologized and claimed he had a family emergency in Mexico. We were understanding although I think that maybe a text or email to his clients would have been appropriate.
The workers did a great job of sealing all the cracks and rebuilding the parapets. There were some areas of concern including a column that had to be adjusted 3 times because it was crooked. No problem, we dealt with the 1 or 2 English speaking members of the crew and got it taken care of. Garbage was not completely cleaned up at the end of each day, my wife and I walked around the property picking up little pieces of blue tape flying around without complaint. I believe proper supervision would have been helpful here. Part of the contract was to dig down 4 to 6 inches around all of the walls, I think this is common practice based on many of the bids I received. In a number of areas this was not done, I pointed out areas that I saw to the workers and they took care of them. There are still, however, several areas that have been missed. Again, proper supervision would have been helpful. I thought that overall the stucco work on the house went very well. My wife and I were happy with the work that was done and we thought that the remaining concerns would be taken care of after a walk- through with Mr. Esparza. This is the point where things start to get a little strange.

On the final day of work (Day 16, a bit longer than the 8 day estimate) I received a ranting call from Mr. Esparza. He was on a cell phone and was yelling and talking so fast that I could not understand a word he was saying. I asked him to calm down, told him that I could not understand him and he finally told me that he would call me back on a land line. When he finally called me he was livid. He asked me for money immediately, prior to the walk-through, to pay his workers. He told me that my wife had mistreated his workers and caused 3 of his best workers to quit, he made disparaging (I won?t elaborate any further) comments about her ability to speak proper English (She is Asian, has a degree from an American university, and speaks English well although with an accent), he accused her of following the workers around and watching them so closely that it made them uncomfortable and that she disturbed their lunch. I tried to have a conversation with him but he hung up on me. I was quite taken aback by what I can only describe as a tirade. I responded to him with a text message letting him know that I would be happy to pay in 2 installments, explaining that I have heard no complaints from him until now, and finished with the following statement ?We are very happy with your workers. I have never EVER been spoken to as unprofessionally by a business owner as I have been by you and am very disappointed?
A couple of hours later Mr. Esparza stormed onto our property after refusing to acknowledge my wife and I, even after my wife greeted him. He climbed onto the roof, walked around the house, glared threateningly, gave some orders to his workers, walked to his car and left. Later a worker handed me a piece of paper requesting $10,000 in 2 checks. I was confused about exactly what he wanted so I gave the worker $5000 in one check, unsuccessfully attempted to call Mr. Esparza, and sent him on his way. Mr. Esparza called back a short time later and still seemed quite upset. I had a difficult time understanding him but he explained that the job was done well (with a few exceptions, this is something I agree with), that he had to fire 3 workers because they refused to come to our house (a change from his original assertion that they quit) and that he made me a fair offer but that I had only paid $5000 and that we were in the wrong for not paying him $10,000. I believe he wanted to go to arbitration which is really not necessary since we were not completely unhappy with the finished product so I wrote another check for $5000 and he sent his worker back to collect it. At this point I have paid him all but $4,149 which should be paid after a final walk through and any corrections. My dilemma is that my wife is uncomfortable to the point of being fearful of having him on our property, and I really have to agree with her. I can probably pretty much forget about the warranty, if for no other reason than I don?t want to deal with him again. At this moment he has sent me a message forgiving the money not paid and essentially calling me a deadbeat, which I am not. I will probably hire someone else to do the touch up work, subtract from the total, and send him the rest. I spent 28 years honorably serving our country in the military and I always pay my bills. I just cannot tolerate his behavior.
Now for my thoughts. I am really conflicted about this. Until a few hours prior to project completion I was ready to give Blusky an A rating and was even going to recommend them to several people I know who need stucco work. The work appears to be done properly with a few exceptions and thanks to our involvement, pretty much the way we wanted it done. I was home the entire final week of the construction and neither my wife nor I was ?Big Brother?, although we did inspect the work and ensured things were being completed to our satisfaction. Often the workers would ask us to look around to see if we found anything that needed attending to. On the other hand, I have never dealt with a business owner who has berated me and acted as unprofessionally as this. I believe
Response from BluSky NM Drywall Lath & Plaster Inc
"This is totally wrong...this customer knows why. His was wife interrupting the process on minute to minute basis even as my guys are having lunch (telling my guys what to eat and what not to eat). Three of my guys desired to not work for me after this lady. And this customer still didn't pay my company $4000. That is way this customer is making a big deal about..the $4000. There is nothing wrong with the work. They didn't wanted to pay $4000 that is it! I am the first one to tell you if I did something wrong. This is not the case. This lady is way off. And again they didn't pay their bill. She was literally standing next to my guys as they are working...minute by minute! Very uncomfortable. These are not good people!"

Blue Sky NM was one of the best contractors I've ever hired. The owner, Alvaro Esparza, showed up promptly to give me an estimate when I called, and I had the quote that evening. The price was very reasonable and work was scheduled and completed by the next week. His crew showed up on time, and completed the initial repair and re-stucco work in two days time.

Alvaro called me that night and told me that he wasn't happy with a couple of walls that showed the location of the repairs underneath due to the light-yellow color of the stucco. Without my asking, he told me he would send his crew back the next day to put on an extra coat of stucco on the entire structure, which is exactly what happened.

The finished product was terrific, and the clean-up was excellent.. They even reattached my TV cables that ran down several walls. I would highly recommend this very professional company.

The crew showed up every morning on time. They patched/drywalled and textured numerous small areas. The texturing was so good, that it is almost impossible to detect where the repairs where made. They also framed, drywalled and textured the kitchen area for recessed lighting installation. They repaired an area where there was a shower leak. They replaced the drywall and textured an area where a closet had been removed. On every part of the project, they exhibited superior workmanship. And at the end of every day, they cleaned up after themselves. Hire them again? Definitely yes!
They did an excellent job, and it looks and feels great. Alvaro did a very good job of explaining all options and prices.
The house looks fabulous, and it holds the inside temperature better due to the insulation.
The clean up was very good.
BluSky did an excellent job, so that the house feels "like-new." Alvaro Esparza, the owner of the company, was honest and helpful in all our dealings with him. The "stuccoists" did such a great job that, thinking in the future, we asked what it would cost to repaint the entire house, but Alvaro flatly told us that it would not be necessary, that the present stucco would last another twenty years or more. We would happily hire BluSky should any damage occur to the stucco. All in all, a most pleasant experience.
The quality of the work done was excellent! We did have a couple of communication issues that delayed work a few days, but once those were cleared up, everyone was really responsive. They got the full restucco of our house done in 1 day! It seemed like everything on our house was more of a pain than we initially thought it would be, but the staff were fantastic about staying late and making sure everything was done well. They even took the time to paint our gutters so that they would coordinate better with the house. All the guys on the job were really skilled and very, very kind.
The only thing that I had an issue with was the clean-up/follow-up work that was done. When they were scraping paint, they didn't cover the ground, or my children's sand box, so I've been picking up paint chips for some time. My young children and I also have found about a dozen screws in my grass/ground that were left behind when they were changing out the gutters. In addition, they didn't put back any of the paving stones they took up to dig for the restucco. Finally, there were also a few areas on the freshly painted woodwork that got chipped during the restucco, but no one came through at the end and did any touch-ups. They did leave the extra paint for me to do it, but it would have been nice if it were part of the work.
All in all, it was a positive experience. I would recommend them, but just make sure you're firm about the clean-up details that you want done.
The owner provided a quote and performed all services in accordance with the quote. He was very knowledgeable and helped educate us to the process. Although we had a very slightly lower bid from another vendor, we decided that BluSky would provide a better service. They were more confident, seemed better prepared, and more professional. I was concerned about protecting my expensive floors and household fixtures from any damage during the process, and the owner gave me confidence that they would take care to cover surfaces and take safeguards to prevent scratches, etc. And they did! The work was done on time and the results are excellent. It is impossible to tell that there was ever any water damage to my home. The quality of drywall/plaster work was "high end" and perfectly matched the other surfaces in my home. I was very pleased.

The workmen did an excellent job and the owner ensured it was done right. They matched the color of our stucco nicely, so the areas that were fixed are not noticeable. They were neat leaving nothing behind for us to clean up afterwards.

I am very pleased with the complete restucco that Alvaro Esparza and his work crew did on my home. My house looks beautiful!
I received seven estimates on the work my home needed. I began by believing (and being told) that my home needed repairs only, but the companies I ended up trusting the most, including BluSky NM, advised me that they would do the repairs to the front of the house, windows, doors, and especially parapets if that was what I wanted, but that the house would need restuccoing within a few years and some of the repair work would then have to be redone. In other words, it was not cost effective. It was also explained to me by these companies, including BluSky, that the repairs I was asking for would be the costliest part of the work, that doing the rest of the house was not nearly as labor-intensive. Though I ended up spending more than I'd initially planned, my delight and satisfaction with the work performed more than make up for it!
Alvaro met with me on a Thursday, provided a detailed estimate later that day, and was able to have his crew begin work the following Tuesday. Two crews worked on the house--the first to do the repairs and prepare for the stucco, the second to provide the stucco. Both crews worked hard and worked steadily, and it made me happy to see that they got along and had good camaraderie. They were cordial and courteous throughout the process. Alvaro came by nearly every day to check on the progress.
The job took six days to complete (four to five had been estimated) and was done almost without a hitch. The "hitch" was that repairs had not been done to one of the windows by the time the stucco crew arrived. This was no big deal but is worth mentioning; I had great familiarity with the kind of work that needed to be done by then and would advise the same to anyone considering stucco work. All was resolved with a bit of email communication with Alvaro. He is very responsive, and I appreciate that about him.
Though the estimates Alvaro gave me (for repairs alone and complete restucco) were a little more than some other companies', he earned my business with his professionalism and careful explanation of the work the house needed. I also appreciated his honesty; there was a portion of the work he didn't want to do as a mere repair (rather than total restucco) because it was at the front of the house and he knew the new work wouldn't match the old stucco no matter how close in color it was.
Finally, I appreciate the three-year warranty on the work. Alvaro and his team were a pleasure to work with!

We wanted a restucco that would completely change the color and texture of our house, as well as stuccoing over a big piece of wood siding in the front of our house which was beginning to be a problem. Alvaro showed up for the estimate exactly when he said he would, and got back promply with an estimate. He noticed an issue on the roof that needed attention, and recommended we get a roofer to address this before he proceed with stucco. He came over while the roofers were here (on July 4th) to make sure they were doing everything that he needed done correctly. We were delayed by rain, and a couple of issues popped up, but Alvaro kept us informed, and was a professional in every way. His crew did a great job, and were as unobtrusive as a they could be. I would not hesitate to recommend BluSky, and will call Alvaro in the future as needed.
From the moment Alvaro, the owner of BluSky, showed up for
the estimate until the final walk-through at the end of the job, this was an
incredibly smooth, stress-free process. And the house looks amazing!
The Bid: Alvaro showed up on time, explained what the job would entail and
answered all my questions. He also
encouraged me to get at least three bids.
He emailed me the bid the next day as promised, and it was the lowest of
the three I received. Based on the
amount and his ratings on Angie?s List and Better Business Bureau, I went with
BluSky.
The Job: The most difficult part of the job for me was selecting a color. Alvaro was extremely patient and helpful
while I made the decision. He provided
addresses of houses with different colors so I could see them first hand, and
he never pressured me to decide in order to start the job on time. His crew was professional in the way they did
their work ? on time, hard-working, and on time. Between Alvaro and his foreman, I was always
informed and updated on their progress.
They completed the job in six days.
On the Saturday after the job was finished, Alvaro stopped by to do his
final inspection. He stayed for about an
hour answering all my questions about maintenance and upkeep.
I recommend BlueSky without reservation! Alvaro is an honest, professional who
obviously cares about his business and their quality of work. He completed the job on schedule, did work
beyond the scope of the original bid, and after the Angie?s List discount, the
final amount was lower than his original bid!
I?ll definitely be calling Alvaro for future projects!
