He was very friendly and professional. He came to my house and gave me an estimate within hours of calling him.
We are in the military and he was able to work around our schedule and come two days later.
We had our large living room with vaulted ceilings that needed to be painted which only took him
a few hours to complete. He did an outstanding job,and we will defiantly be using him again and
highly recommend him to anyone.
Mr. Boykins arrived on time. He was very professional. He gave me an estimate on the phone a feeks prior to setting the actual date of the appointment. When he arrived I explained to him the different colors for the accent walls, he smiled and began working right away. He painted each accent wall thoroughly and made sure I was happy with results before putting the paint away. The old hospital paint walls that I used to have now have a pop of color to cheer them up. I told Mr. Boykins that I will schedule with him again by the end of the month to get the rest of the walls done. He provided excellent customer service.
Mr. Boykin did an excellent job painting the interior of our rental property. He was quick to give us our estimate, quick to start and complete the job, and you can't really beat his pricing. The only complaint I had was a minor one of paint splatters on the bathroom vanities and tub. Other than that, great job and we would definitely use him again.
I use to be a general contractor and independent builder of residential homes. I am not a stranger to the sub contractor market, or the level of work and satisfactory results expected on a simple painting job such as the one I recently hired out on my own home. I received three different quotes on this job, and Mr. Boykin was the middle one. I went with Boykin painting because on this site he was listed as insured and the others were not. Before Mr. Boykin started on the job we went over in detail the work that I required to be done. He was agreeable with all requirements. On the first day of work I presented him with a Scope of Work Agreement, and an Independent Contractor Agreement which laid out in detail all work to be done, the preparation required, and the care and protection of the flooring and furniture within the painting areas, and described in detail the finish paint standard I required. I gave Mr. Boykin ample time to read both documents and he agreed with the terms and readily signed both agreements. From this point forward the job was less than satisfactory. Mr. Boykin was responsible for all of the caulk work to be done, and in places the work was good, but in spots where more patience and attention to detail was required the job was more than sloppy, incomplete, gapping away from the wall, and not even smoothed out, in some places the caulk was ridged up nearly a 1/4 " on the actual trim work, along with quite a few locations where the caulk had not been applied. Mr. Boykin worked about three hours that day and then left. I met with Mr. Boykin the falling day and pointed out the work that was unsatisfactory, and showed him the standard of work I expected, by using examples of work he had completed properly. Mr. Boykin was less than responsive and somewhat defensive that I would critique his work, even though I was able to show him examples of both poor and good work he had already completed. After this walk through he agreed to fix the poorly done areas and I agreed to let the marginal work pass. At this point I should have terminated the contract for work and this was my mistake. I however allowed him to continue to work and later that evening he began applying paint to the trim work. It was clearly stated in the scope of work agreement that the spot priming would be required in some areas where needed in order to give a uniform finish, appearance, sheen and color; the paint was also to be free of runs and sags. That night I inspected the paint work that had been done and again found areas where the work was done properly and where it was not. The falling day I went over the examples of acceptable and unacceptable, and again was met with a poor attitude. Here again is where I should have terminated our contract. I again allowed him to continue with his assurance that everything would be corrected and finished up properly. That evening when Mr. Boykin was finishing up, I went through with him and addressed the problem areas, mostly areas where you could see the primer coat, the wood putty, or even in some spots the raw wood. I asked him to return in the morning. The next morning I went over with Mr. Boykin all of my issues and gave him the opportunity to correct them, along with the time to clean up my new flooring that he had splattered paint or where his paint brush had touched, none of this would have occurred if he would have cover the floor as per the scope of work agreement. His attitude was poor and he acted as if this was simply the adverse effects of any painting work. He made a have hearted attempt to touch up areas, but his work became amazing sloppy, he simply just globed on paint with hugh sags and runs. It was to the point that I had to go behind him brushing out these sags and runs and cleaning the floor, I had to tell him to just stop because he was creating more work for me. I paid him in full and he left. Even at our last talk while he was about to drive away he stated that he thought his work was good if not very good and could not see what was wrong, while inferring that I somehow had unreasonable expectations. I have now just supplied all the paint and paid someone $450.00 to paint my trim work that I now will have to go back and sand down the runs and sags and repaint, I will have to go through and touch up the caulk areas where it is gapped away, I will have to paint the exposed wood, and primed only surfaces, and clean the paint of my flooring. A lot of contactors that a home owner will hire will not give your job due diligence simply for the fact that you are not likely to have a need for them again, and that you won't reasonably have the ability to hurt their employment in gaining future jobs. I am writing this review simply to help other homeowners. I had an ironclad contract and could have not paid Mr. Boykin until the work was done properly, but I did because I have to honor my word. I hope this is helpful to some one. Be advised take your time to hire a contractor and not simply go by reviews, but go a view some of their work at the lowest level such as another home owners job. I don't have an excuse for me not following my own advice, but I did learn once again this valuable lesson.
I can't give Mr Boykin enough praise. When I called him for an estimate he was very flexible and worked around my schedule. He was willing to start the job with little notice and the price was very reasonable if not too low for the quality of his work. He arrived a few minutes early on each of the days and was always very polite and professional. He did an absolutely outstanding job on each of my rooms putting two and in some places three coats of paint on the walls. He left each room clean and did the job right the first time. Mr Boykin is a very easy person to talk to, I enjoyed our conversations. I wasn't able to stay at home while he worked and he locked up the house for me after he finished. We will defiantly be using him again and highly recommend him to anyone.
They do quality work. They were on time and did not leave a mess. I would use this company again.
