First, I called my go-to plumber, Murphy's on MacDade, who always do consistently good work but I've always thought their prices were higher than they needed to be. Well, the estimate Murphy's gave me to repair the leak using trenchless technology was $2500, and $4350 to replace the whole line, and these numbers factored in my discount for being a "contract" customer. Normally, the prices would be $2750 for the repair and $4550 for the replacement. When I hung up the phone, I literally screamed bloody murder. There was no way I could fork over that much cash in that short of a timeframe, and even if I could, I was thinking, there's got to be somebody just as good out there who will do it for less. So I did some internet research, and based on positive reviews, found the Brendan Walsh Underground Plumbing Solutions website, which explains what trenchless technology is, shows you a video of how it operates, and informs you that it's far less invasive and labor intensive (i.e. less costly) than the traditional method that required tearing up your front lawn and trying to put it back together again like humpty dumpty. Then the site tells you that Brendan Walsh and his crew have 10 years of experience with this technology and at that point, I was convinced to dial the number, which is (610) 850-3400. It's Good Friday now when I'm calling - and to my surprise, Brendan Walsh himself answers! And after a short explanation of what my problem is, tells me he can do the repair for $1500 and if they get in there and find out they need to replace the entire line it would cost $2700. Oh, and he can start it on Easter Monday! I couldn't believe this was really happening. I called other companies and they wanted to do it the old-fashioned tear it up way for like $4500, I think somebody even estimated it at $4900. (I must look like a very rich person to these guys, I don't know why, I have a beat up old car outside). Anyway, Mr. Walsh gave me the estimate in writing on Saturday, we had a pleasant phone conversation where he told me his philosophy of how he believes in taking care of his employees and makes it a point not to overcharge his customers (says he's barely raised prices in 10 years) and by the end of the call, I was so happy to give him the job. He shows up Monday morning just like he said he would, and he called beforehand, just like he said he would, we signed the proposal, which said exactly what he said it would say, then he drove off to get the permit from the township. He and his crew did the work on Tuesday. Unfortunately, I wasn't home to witness it because I was away on business, but my housemate said that she was only out of water for a few hours, and Mr. Walsh called me at approximately 5:30 pm to personally tell me that they had completed the job, that the repair was sufficient to resolve the problem, that they did NOT need to replace the line. I could not have been more thrilled and I promised to write a glowing review on Angie's list:)
