Everything went well from start to finish. The whole job was completed in one full day. No mess from the masonry work was left behind. I would recommend Buckley's Chimney Service to anyone looking to have any chimney/masonry work done. Also there wasn't a deposit needed to start the job either, he takes everyone on their word.

I have been using the services of Wayne Buckley @ Buckley's Chimney service for over 7 years.
I own rental properties in both PA and DE Wayne is my go to guy for about everything from Chimney repair to concrete work and sometimes just advice on other contractors.
I recently had him point two chimneys for me. He quoted me $1500.00 to $1700.00. The price ended up less than his lowest number. When I asked him why, he said " I over bid the Job" It looked more involved than it was.
I have referred Buckley's many times over the years. I consider him and his boy Dannie more friends than just a Contractor.
I was just looking through the Angie's List Magazine and was shocked to see an add by Buckley's Chimney Service. This is the first time I have written a review because I felt compelled to let people know our experience. The project was a NIGHTMARE. Wayne over promised with a fast talk and completely under delivered.
He and his crew were a sloppy mess. When destructing the old chimneys they did nothing to cover and protect the cedar shakes or the landscaping. The new furnace chimney he poorly built leaked a major amount of water from the third floor down to the first causing interior damage. He tried to keep adding more calk to everything he could but the construction was incorrect from the start. With in a year we had to have all three chimneys removed and new ones put in by a legitimate mason and craftsmen.
While Wayne was here he had scaffold up for seven weeks. The project should have never taken that long but admittedly he was deer hunting and working on other jobs as well. On top of it all the plaster and debris were left piled in the gutters and around the property and heavy rain storms were in the forecast. I had furiously called Wayne to follow through and clean up and he appeared as the rain began to try and clear the gutters.
Wayne advised we remove the inside dampers to two of the chambers and place on the top of the chimney. He did nothing to put plastic to control dirt and dust inside the house and as professionals reviewed and commented Wayne had mutilated the old fireplaces. He asked for $2,500 right before Christmas as he said he had to pay his guys. I gave him the money and never heard from him again. At my age I didn't think I could be fooled that bad but I was. It was one of the WORST contractor experiences. Wayne entered this project and left the property in worse shape than when he started. I have documented pictures of the entire experience. I can see if a person gets in over their head on a project but showing up for a job to get it completed and respecting a persons home are the basics for any contractor.
Although low estimates are tempting, it is true we only get what we pay for and it will cost much more time, money and stress in the end.

Response from Buckley's Chimney Service
"I’m very sorry you are not satisfied with our work. This project was over 4 years ago and never once did you contact us.. We strive to make sure all our customers are 100% satisfied with our work. As you might imagine, there are just some customers who are unable to be pleased and unfortunately you are that one. After 33 years in business, I have to say you get an F - from us!. There are several misrepresentations in this review that would take me too long to detail out in this response. We have hundreds of satisfied customers and wish you the best in your future home improvement projects. My original response was not quite as professional as this is. An Angie's list representative suggested I show a little more restraint. So instead of calling you, let's say a Liar, I will say their are several misrepresentations If anyone want's the truth, just call and I will explain the issues with your project and other issues! Now you have a nice day! And remember, I never took a deposite you paid when the project was complete!"

I was very pleased with the timely estimate, scheduling and the work
that was done, restuccoing my chimney. Wayne is very polite and efficient
and the cost was reasonable. I would not hesitate to use him again, if
needed. It is a pleasure to have someone who actually does great work,
on time and for a decent price. I was not home during the job, but
everything was cleaned up and the chimney looks great!

We needed some stucco replaced on our chimney and called 3 companies. None of the other company's were as nice to talk to as Buckleys. The guys at Buckleys were by far the most professional and reasonably priced. They were in and out very quick and also did a great cleanup before they left. You couldn't even tell they were there. They did a great job on the repair. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone!!!

A different chimney service provider was very prompt in scheduling an inspection, even though he was not able to perform the inspection for about a week. When he arrived, he took pictures of our chimney, noting various problems potentially caused by the work performed last year by Buckley's. The installation of the pipe was done in the reverse of how it should have been installed, creating areas where water can gather and leak. While it does not need to be re-done at this time (even though it was not done in the best manner), we are having other work done to improve what was done last year. The chimney cap, also installed by Buckley's last year, was also done improperly, according to the trained (schooled) chimney sweep who is going to perform updated work. The new provider encouraged me to make sure I used a service (not necessarily his) who went to school for completing chimney service. He also showed me diagrams of how things should have been installed and compared them to the pictures of how my chimney work was performed last year by Buckley's.
Mr. Buckey assured us that the flashing around the furnance chimney would be repaired. After the job was completed, we inspected the roof and saw that new flashing was not installed. On 9/19, we called to inform Mr. Buckley that water was still leaking through the garage ceiling. In the end of September, he tried to resolve the problem by using sealant, but new flashing was still not installed. In November 2012, he was called again and informed that the leak was still occurring after a rain storm. He assured us that someone would be out to fix it. No one ever came to repair it. We have left several messages since then and no one has returned our phone calls or has been out to our house to finish the repair. Water still continues to leak and into the garage.
The stucco repair was done very well and quickly. I thought the pricing was fair compared to other quotes we recieved. Mr. Buckley seemed like he was willing to make things right at first but we have not heard anything from them since November.
If you are looking for basic chimney services like stucco or sweeping, Buckley's would do a good job. If you have more advanced repairs, look for another company. We are currently looking to hire a roofer to repair the flashing.
.This was a great experience from the beginning. Brent is very easy to work with and listened to my ideas and gave advice based on that. When the crew arrived to clear the brush in the back, they worked swiftly and cleaned all debris and even dug out some of the root matter from the unwanted shrubs. The area looked great after they were finished and looks even better now mulched and groomed. They were able to save some red cedars that were being crowded out. We have some other ideas and will be calling them again to get the work done.
During Hurricane Sandy the intense winds blew the cap off of our chimney. The high winds blew torrents of rain down our old brick chimney which caused a lot of internal damage and washed a thick, sooty, gooey mess of chimney sludge down into our furnace. The furnace was so gummed up by this sludge that it was rendered completely inoperable. It had to be replaced. I contacted several chimney service companies,of which two responded. Both companies took one look at the height of our three story chimney and turned tail and ran from the job.......Enter Buckley Chimney Service. Wayne came out and inspected the situation and made several recommendations as to what we could do. We decided the only cost effective and permanent solution would be to install a new Stainless Steel chimney. Dispite the hazard of electric wires in immediate proximity to the workspace, Wayne and his crew stepped up and got the job done in just one day. Their skill, courtesy and professionalism is without peer, as no one else would even respond in our time of need. As busy as they were, they realized our predicament and went out of their way to squeeze us into their busy schedule. I highly recommed them to anyone needing chimney or masonry service.
UPDATE: 11/12/14: As an update to a positive review left in September of 2012 (see below), I am NOW REVISING HIS RATING TO AN "F". The chimney cap blew off this winter, and I contacted Mr. Buckley over three months ago to assist with replacing the cap. After several attempts to reach him via cell and business phone, and him not returing my call, I called his cell phone again one day, and actually got him on the phone. He said he would come out the next afternoon to take a look. That was over two months ago. Since that time, I have called his cell phone multiple times a week, different times of the day, and his business phone several times a week, leaving messages. About two weeks ago I called his cell phone, and he actually answered the phone, and he told me he was at a funeral, and that he would call me the next day. Repsecting his grief, I waited for him to call me back. That did not happen. When I commented two years ago about the promptness of his estimate, and the promptness of the work, I guess it was to make sure he collected the $2,200 promptly as well. The heating system cost me over $6,800 with the chimney work, and as a single parent, I had to work multiple jobs to get the money to pay for all the work. $2,200 is a great deal of money to me, and apparently Mr. Buckley doesn't even have the decency to return my calls. I regret now using him at all, and wish I had waited to leave the comment below.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ORIGINAL REVIEW AS OF 9/18/12:
My chimney was in very bad shape apparently. I had gotten another estimate from a recommendation through my current oil company (soon to be my ex-oil company), and that individual told me that the chimney wasn't that bad, as did the salesman from my oil company who was trying to sell me a new heating system. He was apparently mistaken! Not only was the chimney in very bad shape, it would have been extremely dangerous for the new heater to be installed without the new chimney, both from a fire safety standpoint, and from a health standpoint. Mr. Buckley came out and did an estimate very quickly, and we scheduled the work to be done. The price he quoted was what he charged. I would highly recommend Mr. Buckley to anyone!
I was converting my boiler from oil to gas and so I needed a chimney liner installed. I got a quote from a mason who said that he had installed chimney liners before. After two days of attempting to install the chimney liner this mason gave up. He could not negotiate the turns in my chimney flue with his liner. I then called Wayne Buckley of Buckley's Chimney liner service. Wayne was recommended from my Heating company to install the liners. Wayne came out and looked at the turn in my flue and predicted that it was most likely he would have to break into the chimney brick from the outside to get the liner in, but that if it was possible, he would get the liner in without having to do that.
Well, Wayne came out with a special liner that was better quality than the one the first guy tried to install and was able to negotiate the turns in the flue and install the liner without breaking into my chimney from the outside. He got more done in one hour than the other guy was able to do in 2 days. Wayne is very knowledgeable about installing chimney liners and even teaches others how to install them correctly as well as how to contend with difficult scenarios (like mine). I would say that he knows his stuff and would recommend him highly to get it done right the first time.

Wayne was super responsive. I had received three varying estimates from other companies that all conflicted with each other in their approach, so I felt like I was starting from scratch. Wayne was very informative throughout the process and helped address all of the various issues. He fit us into his schedule very quickly to help us get these issues resolved quickly. And, he did everything for less than half of what it would have cost from the other companies (none of which wanted to do all of the necessary work). In some cases, I get concerned about going with the cheapest option, but this was a case where the cheapest was also the best. There were a few days where his guys had to stop work on our job to work on another job, but that was understandable because he squeezed us into his schedule. Also, Wayne was great about following up after the job to make sure things went well. He said he is still going to check in again after a couple months to make sure all the cement set properly and didn't crack, which is great to hear. Overall, he was great.

Buckley's Chimney Service came to our house very quickly after we contacted them. We actually were very impressed by their promptness. They did a quick evaluation of the problems and made a solid recommendation with a very fair quote. We were so confident in them, we immediately hired them for the job. They were very efficient and quick with their work and kept us informed the entire time. It was an absolute pleasure to work with them, and they became our sole provider of chimney services from this point forward. These people are excellent and very trustworthy!
