Deck itself was completed as contracted with one exception. I have a gate that has never worked properly for any length of time. Going in and out requires people to lift the gate up. Gate is also crooked by being 2-3" lower on one side than the other. Before warranty was up I contacted the head carpenter that the gate was not working correctly. About a month later he visited and agreed. He adjusted. Had to lower the latch because gate was sinking on one side. That didnt help for long. Gate continued to sink. He came back. Removed the gate. Made some changes to it. At that time I expressed my concern that gate was crooked. I was told "it is settling". Gate has continued to sink on one side and Im back to having a non-functioning gate that people have to lift up in order to go in or out. Although the warranty is up, the gate has never functioned correctly for any period of time. It looks pretty bad. I recently contacted the owner by email, asking to have gate fixed correctly. Have not received any response. During construction I was constantly reminded that they would make sure I was happy with final product. I have enclosed a pic of the gate. You can notice how crooked it is.

In my opinion Chris is truly a stand up guy... i have never dealt with a contractor like him in the Ohio Valley... he is honest and upfront... truly cares about treating your home respectfully and doing the job well. The fact that his team also carried this into the work they do is no surprise. Not only do I recommend ByAllMeans, they will be the company I will always call when needing work done. If I could give them a higher rating I would,

Chris and his team have done an excellent job with every job I've given them. I am remodeling a very old home and there are always unexpected surprises every time we open up a wall to do something else and they are always prepared to handle it. Chris is very conscientious about staying on budget and I can trust his crew inside my house. I think that dogs are excellent judges of character and both of my German Shepherds absolutely love all the guys on his crew which is really all I need to know about their character.

"Yes, We did speak on behalf of the information that was stated and Customer had apologized for stating false information against company. All the work that was to be done at that time was done, customer was upset and still is upset that she cannot afford to do the project properly by WV state codes. This customer owns apartment buildings and in apartment buildings there needs to be at least two fire exits out of each apartment. This customer asked us to install an exterior door/ fire exit because she only had one fire exit so we had done so. This apartment where work was done is located on the second floor of the building. The access to this new door consists of a pair of treated lumber stairs that are very old, poorly maintained, unsafe, not WV code, and will cost between two to three thousand dollars to be repaired correctly. Since this customer does not want to pay for the repairs she is trying to have us, the company, go back and remove the door and put back the window. There again only leaving one fire exit out of the apartment, which is illegal. We refuse to do so, and will not do so because we follow the rules and all codes obtained by the state. This customer also paid for and APPROVED all work done upon the finish of the jobs and also to mention again this work was done two years ago. So to the people who read this review, I have one question to ask For a good grade on Angies List, Should we do what this customer wants or should we do what we have always done, which is follow the law of state codes and do the work proper and safe?"

1st project: They did not purchase garage doors with key locks (as I asked)and did not use proper rubber gasket on bottom of door so that there were no gaps. These garages were old and crooked. I hired someone else to finish the work. 2nd project: Removed door and repositioned on another wall where there was set of steps to outside. Installed door but did not do adjustment and repair on the stairs. because they were promised to another job. They left my job for few days and promised to return to finish the stairs and suggested I hold back some money until then.($500) However, when he returned he wanted $2500 more to make the exterior staircase "to code"!! He knew the circumstances of this job upon the original bid. There is not $2500 "extra" dollars in the budget. I asked that he put the window back but he wanted to charge me again to do that. Now I am left with a door to a dangerous side steps. Was this ethical? Also I had to call several times to remove the debris including wire screen used to surround the railing. He doubted it was his but I assured him it was original to the deck. That was in 2015/2016 and I do not know if his current circumstances and or if the employees have changed. However, this issue still remains and done with the owner.

It went very well. While they were not always able to be exactly on time, they were never very late. They cleaned up each evening before leaving so that we didn't have to deal with a lot of mess. They laid the tile is beautifully including in the shower surround. Everything was done to the scale of perfection and they would have used on their own homes. The workers we're very friendly, courteous and respectful. They were willing to take feedback as they worked and incorporated all the changes that I asked for. They were very reliable about picking up materials for the job and letting us know what those costs were. This was another excellent job by Chris Means and By All Means & More. We have been using them for years now and they never disappoint.

My microwave oven broke right before the Thanksgiving holiday. Help!!! I called By All Means And More and, as usual, they rescued me. They installed my new microwave very quickly. They came just a few days after I called them and put me into their schedule as an emergency. I have used these guys for all sorts of construction and fixes around the house. They are friendly, courteous, clean and always do what they promised to do. They clean up after themselves beautifully. Their list of references is a mile long. ?

The project went very smoothly and came in on budget. All aspects of the job—the cleaning and spray washing, the staining and resealing, the caulking, and the cleanup were all done with incredible attention to detail and with obvious knowledge and skill. The team was on-sight for several days. They went to obvious efforts to make their presence as non-intrusive and pleasant as possible, considering the scope and size of the work. And, when the work was completed, the cleanup was very professionally done, leaving the house as neat as they found it. Highly Recommended!

The project required removing a very large jet tub in the bathroom, reworking the ductwork and electrical systems as well as wall and ceiling construction, painting, finishing work on trim, installation of lights and all new bathroom fixtures. Our home is unique in it's design and construction, part of which is log paneled. They handled the integration of the new construction with the overall design of the previous rooms very well. The entire process went smoothly, on time, and on budget. There was some additional work needed due to unforeseen issues with the original construction of the house. They were very clear about what needed to be done and why, and potential solutions were discussed and the cost ramifications so that we had a choice in how to proceed. The company is very professional in the way they handle estimates and ongoing information. Supervisors were on site every day, watching over the work and checking on our satisfaction with how the project was going. The people who did the work were punctual every day, courteous and pleasant to have in our home, very knowledgable, and did top-of-the-line work. A lot of care was given to making sure that the construction (especially the dust) was managed well and every evening during the project, the house was organized so that we had uncluttered living spaces, and when the project was completed, all the debris was cleaned up and removed. We couldn't be happier with the result of the experience of working with them. Highly recommended!

I have used By All Means And More many, many times and Chris Means and his workers continue to provide the same excellent level of service as always. Chris is very courteous and responsive in giving estimates and scheduling appointments. Most recently Paul came out with Josh to fix the plumbing problems and they were both courteous, friendly and knowledgeable. They changed shoes so my floors stayed clean, and they cleaned up the work areas thoroughly, even though I said I could do it. Chris's guys almost always get things right the first time, as in this instance. However, on the rare occasion when a problem cropped up, they came back and fixed it, no questions asked and no bill submitted. These guys are a pleasure to deal with and no, I am not Chris's mother! Just a very satisfied customer.

It went great...in the beginning snd then went straight down hill after that. Within four months some of the tile had a scrunching sound under them, sounded like you were walking on egg shells. When i called him he was working in town and came pretty quickly to check it out. Said he never saw anything like it before but said he would come back and take care of it before the end of the month (May). At first it was just 4 tile but while waiting for him to return, i noticed that there were several others that were doing the same thing. He didnt show up by the end of the month so i gave him anither call and told him about the other ones. I was leaving on a long weekend trip in June and wanted it done before i left anc he assured me he would take of it. Well to make a long story a little shorter he didnt show up before my trip and i didnt hear from him when i got back, so again, i called him. He finally sent a guy to check it out (now we're into July) and the employee had to call Chris to find out what to do bc it was a bigger job than he thought. He put me on the phone with Chris and he said i hadnt told him about the other tiles when in fact i had. My wife heard me tell him om the phone. He was snippy with me and blamed the problem on the house settling and various other things. He finally told his guy to replace the four whole tiles but not the other ones, he would do those later (who knows how mich later?). I told the worker to just forget it, it seemed silly to mix up all the stuff if you had to come back and do more. So my wife and j took out all of the grout and glue on all the affected tile (8 tile) and had it ready to go, all they had to do was lay them. I might add that on every one of the tile that were removed, after two sides of grout were removed, there was no prying to get them up, they simply lifted up. Didnt even have to clean the back of the tile off, not a bit of gllue on them. Coildnt have made this job any easier for him. Called him back and he still didnt wsnt to fix it so had to threaten him with small claims court. That changed his mind and he sent s nice ypung man to do the job in about an hours time. This bad review is not so much sbout the work but the way he handled my complsint. I live in a very old house and remodeling is s nightmare, even for professionals. And the job chris did really looked good and i was very happy with it. I think as important as it is to find a competent worker, it's just as important to find one who will fix his work or at least advise you what to do. We just picled up five more.tile because of scrunching underneath and put them back down ourselves and there are still some more "scrunchers" but we will take care of them. Not worth the fight to get them back her <br /> <br />Howard Lauck <br /> <br />

"The customer installed all the hard I baker board himself we only installed the role. He bought all the Materials also and bought the cheapest materials he could buy. We should have known better to do that job. We never do Jobs where the customer buys the Materials or does half the work/installs. We will not be installing tile anymore we have installed so much of it and made many customers happy but there are none of those reviews on here... Again we should have known better than to take on this Job because it ended up just like the other Job we have done and gotten a bad review a year ago on tile install. Same thing happened. Customer installed all the baker board and other things and bought all the Materials and we just installed them. Never again will we do this. If we don't do all the installs ourselves and buy all the Materials then we will not take on the jobs.... By all Means and more"

We have worked with Chris and the By All Means and More team on several projects (the one outlined above is actually our third project with them) so obviously we are very happy with them! Their workers are very conscientious, polite and detail oriented. We bought a ?fixer upper? and look forward to working with them more in the future. Keep up the great job Chris, Paul, Earl, Jeff and <br /> the rest of the By All Means and More team! <br />

Chris and his crew did a great job.  They worked around the weather delays, they worked weekends, and they did some small little things that made the overall appearance of the house look great. <br />
