AVOID BILLYJO BYRD AND BYRD SERVICES LIKE THE PLAGUE. DON'T BE STUPID LIKE I WAS. NOT TRUSTWORTHY. DISHONEST. UNPROFESSIONAL. DOESN'T FINISH PROJECTS HE WAS PAID FOR. UNRESPONSIVE. HE IS NOT REGISTERED WITH THE SOUTH CAROLINA RESIDENTIAL BUILDERS COMMISSION AS A RESIDENTIAL SPECIALTY CONTRACTOR (HANDYMAN). I MADE A TERRIBLE DECISION TRUSTING BILLYJO BYRD, AND HOPE NO ONE ELSE HAS TO EXPERIENCE WHAT I DID. Byrd Services/BillyJo Byrd contacted me on 5/20/21 from an Angie’s List project. A contract was signed on 6/6/21 and half of the estimated (SEE CHECK 1709) $2950 was paid. Byrd was to: 1) install crawlspace underpinning with two accessways, 2) repair/paint roof fascia at the front and back of house and caulk/paint, 3) install door under front porch stairway, 4) install back porch storm door. Byrd purchased materials and began the projects more than three weeks later. On 7/3/21, he had only finished some of the underpinning and a little painting near the fascia. He pled poverty that evening and requested that I pay the $1500 balance, which I did (SEE CHECK 1710). Since then, Byrd has made NO PROGRESS on any of the projects. He contacted me on 7/19/21, promising to finish over that weekend, but to this day has done nothing. He has been unresponsive to phone calls, text messages, and emails. I am most disappointed and would like to have a refund for work not completed.

Billy started this project off with a check of 3450.00$ I wrote out to him on December 1, 2020 and signed a contract and only doing my bathroom skylight and water damage being taken care of. He popped the soffit back into place the day we meet and discussed things to be done. Also halfway fixing my fence and painting my shed once and needed more money to get more paint to do another coat. I wrote another check out to him on February 16, 2021. Billy took my money as haven't seen him since he wont answer my calls and I still have his tools and supply's in my house. I'm elderly and was taken advantage of I am very understanding he had excuses for everything. I gave him chance after chance he ignoring me for days and then got in contact what me, now he wont answer my calls or text I just want my money back at this point.

Billy has an amazing work ethic and the skills to complete everything I needed done. He ran to Lowe’s for parts that were missing, loaded my car with items too heavy for me to carry, and went beyond amazing work to adding amazing respect for me and my home.

Billy seems to be a friendly guy but his services were very disappointing. I had to redo part of the work he did and also go around cleaning up after the guy he brought to paint trim. Billy didn't show up on time a single day he actually showed up. Several times he just didn't show up or call or return messages for days. I'm an understanding person, but when you're hired to do a job you need to communicate when something comes up or when plans change. I finally just did the rest of the work myself because of our deadline, which I was up front about. Additionally, he did not consistently comply with masking requirements, which we were also up front about because we have immunocomprimised people in our household. I'm out the nearly $2k that I paid him. I would not hire Byrd Services again.

When he was done, the houses were beautiful! They never looked that good in the 15 years I've owned the properties. Of all the contractors I've worked with Billy was the best. He was professional, gave good advance to make my homes more attractive and an all around super nice guy. The quality of his work was exceptional at very reasonable prices. I'm so thankful I met Billy on Angie's List and highly recommend him.

"I want to start off by apologising to Homeowner for the situation that should have never happened. I brought on a partner for this job and ended up getting taken advantage of and left out to dry. I am doing everything in my power to make this situation right with the Homeowner. I am a very humble man and I take all my customers very serious and think of them more than just a customer, but yet a family member and treat them like family. This is an unfortunate situation and unfortunately due to the situation and me be left out in the the cold from the other person who was involved which is no longer part whatsoever. I am having to take this one head on and take care of the Homeowner myself to make the situation right. Which is only the right thing to do. I truly believe in karma and doing people the right way. I am a small business owner and there's been rare occasion's were I have had to learn things the hard way and this is one of them. What I am truly sorry the most about is that an innocent person had to get caught in this situation. With that being said I hope to anybody who reads this it lets them know a little bit about what kind of business owner I am and this is not how I conduct my business. My wife and I booked Byrd Services 2 months prior to closing on our new house to have 10 ceiling fans installed 19 curtain rods and other lighting fixtures through out the house. The curtain rods were not installed properly. The screws that came with the rods had to be installed with sheet rock anchors where there was not a wood beam for the screws to attach to. This was not done sufficiently as we found after one day the curtain rods were pulling away from the wall. After taking one curtain rod apart I found screws that were too short to go into the wood beam so the only thing holding the screw in place was the sheet rock which is not sufficient. Someone with the years of experience he claims should have realized this. I also found sheet rock anchors cut in half that were installed so the screws had no way to be secured to the sheet rock. The project was suppose to take 2 and a half days but it took all week with some nights he was working till 9pm because he kept leaving going to other jobs where he was having issues and had to babysit his crew as he stated. With the ceiling fans we had, 5 of them had wall control switches to replace the ones the builder installed and I stated this when we had him write up the estimate. When he started the installation he said this would be extra and that he would come back Friday to install those. (he started on Monday) He also broke the glass opening the box to one of our hanging lights. He stated he would get a new piece of glass and come back to fix the curtain rods but it would be a week and a half later. We said that would not be acceptable since he left us hanging to go fix other jobs. He then offered to refund the money for the curtain rods and get us the glass piece for the light. That was to be done this past weekend which he has failed to do and refused to respond back to us contacting him. There are 2 other reviews that posted on here about Byrd Services after we contracted him. I really wish I saw them because I would have never hired him to begin with because his work ethic, communication, trustworthiness and ability to perform the work as asked is deplorable. These other 2 reviews about him are spot on as well.

"I sincerely apologise for you guys being unhappy with the situation. You must know that the curtain rods were install a disaster the how they were supposed to be install with the hardware that you supplied. I hung a curtain rods for you guys in the beginning that I had to take down and put up a thinner curtain ride which I mentioned to your wife that They would not be strong enough to hold 2 curtains 9' long On one curtain ride. They supplied me with the hardware that came with the curtain raj which were only the sheet rock anchors that typically come with curtain rods in any kind of item that you're going to mount to the wall and not have wood to go into. I would understand if it was my fault by not installing what was supplied to me from you guys. I apologise that your curtains are pulling away from the wall. I am certain that you should not have as much weight as I saw in the picture you guys sent to me on those curtain rods. The price that you put down was incorrect because I did not charge you to take down 8 curtain rods and reinstall 8 new curtain rods In their home. Due to last minute change I did it for free. I warranty my work 100%. I understand Getting upset at the situation and I apologise for the situation, but at the end of the day it is not my fault that you have too much weight on your curtain rods for the type of curtain rod you guys had me install the 2nd time around. It is not fair to expect somebody to come fix a problem for free When they were install just like the instructions said to install them in with the hardware I was supplied with. In fact that you said you paid me more money than you did is one sign of being dishonest. So how do I know that what culture saying is true. I have a copy of the transaction of where you sent money to pay me into different payments. It was less than what you mentioned in your review. A good bit less. And you gave me an F for punctuality When I stayed extra late to get the job done for you guys since you were moving in in one of this done as quickly as possible. Everything else that I did for you guys did not have one problem but yet that was not mentioned in your review. You only mentioned the negative and that's when you guys did not get your [Member Information Removed]. Want to gain I apologise for your situation. I was more than happy to help you out with your situation corrected, but you guys expected me to come refund the money for something that was not my fault. You failed to mention that the money you wanted back for the curtain rods pulling away which were only 9 of them so that is a $190. I put up 9 curtain rods that would have held the weight of the curtains And you guys had me take those down and put up different curtain rods that obviously weren't efficient enough to hold the amount of weight that you put on them. I did not charge you guys for that. So that was a $190 with work that I did for free for you guys. Her really wish you woulda mentioned the whole situation and not just picture framed the negative and on truthful parts of the job. once again I sincerely apologise for your situation. I wish you guys the best. I apologise that I could not drop everything I was doing at that moment and come there that day to take care of it. I really wish you would have told the entire story and not the part to try to make somebody look bad."

Intially everything went fine. He gave me an estimate of $1200and gave me both a military and senior citizen discount. He worked into the night to complete the job and I gave him a $100 bonus. My mistake was not getting a written contract that included his warranty. The first time I used the screen door the screening cane out. He returned and redid the door. Shortly after that I noticed that some of the screening he had replaced had come out also. Then began a series of phone calls and texts that resolved nothing. I don't recommend his service.

Not good. When he came out to give the estimate he wrote everything down in his book but failed to include the luan board that I requested be placed on the cross pieces of the bed. He showed up without the board and said he would have to charge a trip fee to go get it. Then he purchased/brought the wrong rope and had to get the correct one. He assured me he wouldn't charge me for that! He was gone almost 2 hrs. I did review the estimate he sent me and the luan board was not in it. My bad. But that was odd because I was so specific about wanting it and him saying he would place finger holes to make it easier to remove when we had a hurricane and needed to take it apart. He finally returned to work (he had an assistant) but ran into a problem hanging one side. The ceiling joists weren't spaced exactly where he needed. He said he needed to place a support piece between the joists. We supplied the 2x6 for him as we had some scrap wood available. He cut those 2 pieces/hung them and cut the luan board which was all done in 45 min. He then proceeded to hang the bed and adjust the ropes. We gave them water, snacks and provided a fan as it was very hot that day. He said we were spoiling him. At the end he gave us the additional bill and for the labor only he charged an extra $200. I said why so much because the work was completed in a shorter amount of time? He reminded me that he wasn't charging me for the wrong rope or the second trip he had to make. I thought "you shouldn't because these were your mistakes!" My husband jumped in and said JUST PAY HIM! It was very late and he wanted them gone. Since then the bed has shifted in some way. It's hangs crooked and the ropes have stretched so bad they're dragging on the floor on one side! They should be at least 10-12" off the floor! I've called him several times. He's been a "No show" so many times. He said he would come out on 9/4 after 6pm but we had company coming so he said he'd change his schedule and do us next. NO SHOW ! On 9/11, I again called him and he texted he'd call me back and that's the last I heard from him. He's never returned any calls and now that he recognizes my number he no longer answers the phone. During the original interview he went on and on about how great a carpenter he is because he used to build custom homes. Now he wants to control his time and projects so he works as an independant contractor/handyman. I would never recommend him because he doesn't make good on his work and mistakes/problems that occur. He assured me when I interviewed him that if there were problems that arose he would come back and correct them. No worries on that end...HA! This has been such a disappointment because I've always wanted a porch swing bed and now every time I look at it I cry.

Very well - this was my second time hiring Billy and he was just as consistent as he was the first time. He called to confirm that day of and that he was running on time, he helped me decide on where exactly the curtains and the lights should be hung by appeasing my “what if” scenarios with a smile on his face and it all came out looking gorgeous! It’s hard to find anyone who returns a call these days much less does a great job. We found it with him.
