I wasn't happy with it, and I had to have them back out a couple of times. It is not a big deal, it happened a year ago. I paid them cash $1000, I paid them a check and they said they never got the check, I had to send them copies of the check. Their accounting department leaves a little to be desired. I wasn't happy with the work and the aftermath. I would not use them again.

First of all, this guy is a certificated ARBORIST! He knows trees! This was very important to me. I didn't want "some guy with a chainsaw" to tell me the trees had to come down.
After looking over the trees and their location, he told me that the trees would continue their secondary growth and that growth would push up the pavers in the yard, and even if the pavers were reinstalled the secondary growth would push them up again over time. He gave me some options to consider.
He is based out of central Orange County and because of distance, he declined to do work in Bellflower which was disappointing.
This is a good professional tree service.
They ate arborists so they know how to care for the trees, verses the many unlicensed tree trimmers that constantly try to get our business.
Just fine. They stacked some of the smaller pieces for us to use as fire wood.

Unethical - Do Not Use. Why am I writing this now and not a year ago. Here is the story.
We finally got around to start working on replacing our backyard, landscape and hardscape a few weeks ago. On Thursday (7/23/15) our cement contractor who was doing the walls came with his foreman and turned over some of the shavings from work done by California Arborist last August. I found these guys on Angies List - Not a good sign.
After about 15 minutes they called me out and had me look at a GIANT Root system from the tree that CA was supposed to have removed a year ago and they refused to move forward.
On Friday morning (7/24/15) I have to call an emergency tree service (search my other reviews for how great they did) and they come out with one days notice today Saturday (7/25/15) and start grinding out the roots of the tree that were left behind from last year.
Here is where the bad review comes from, when they got to the center of the roots they found that the original stump was still there and was basically ground down about 4 inches and covered with shavings to look like it was ground out.
This new tree company had to spend over 3 hours removing the original stump and the exterior root system left behind by CA.
Important note: The new tree company charged less than CA did and did the job correctly including finishing what CA had started.
I think it is completely unethical to say you completed a job only to find out they had hidden the rest of the tree to save money.
Buyers beware on these guys, I ended up paying twice for the same work.
I had good results with them. Coordinating return calls wasn't a good experience. I had to call twice. They did send a crew and supervisor that turned out great.

Crew arrived on time, and started working. Showed up with a large team, branch mulcher, and alarge stump grinder.
Cleaned everything up and they were done by 4pm. Quick and efficient. I would use them again.

They did a great job! We gave them specific directions to trim the two huge trees off the roof and away from the sidewalk, and they did exactly that, and when we requested they trim a few branches a bit more because they hung over a neighbor's property, it was no problem or additional expense. There was a very heavy windstorm within a month of the trim job, and a remaining branch snapped and was hanging down. I called California Arborist and they came out the same day and cut it off, with no additional charge. The trees were shaped nicely, not just lopped off. We were very happy with the work.
Response from California Arborist
"We contacted the customer as soon as we received the purchase notification from Angies List, but only after numerous attempts via email and phone calls were we finally able to set up the appointment. Once on site we had to explain to the customer that what they had purchased was for 2 hours of service, including parts for minor repairs. However, the work the customer wanted done was going to take approximately 6-8 hours. We explained that they could use the purchased two hours against the other hours needed but they did not go with the idea. After the customer refused the additional fee we suggested getting a refund from Angie's List as no services were performed. I am not sure why they did not get a refund but the purchase is made through Angies List not us, so it is something between the customer and Angies List to figure out."

The service removed one huge (over 50yrs old) tree that was termite infested. They also removed a liquid amber that was dead.
Then they trimmed and thinned two large pine trees. This was an all day job. They did a good job of cleaning up. The only regret that I have is that I didn't spend extra to have the stumps ground, but this was my choice. And yes, I would use them again--in fact I plan to when I can get to the yard.
I've used CA in the past. They trimmed or lightly shaped six trees. The crew that did the work was punctual and completed all of the work in around two hours. They cleaned up the mess after they were done too. Good job!
Removed three Italian Cypress trees. Arrived when they said they would, immediately went to work protecting my roof and neighbors with plywood. Excellent cleanup of my property and neighbors.
It was very short notice, but the cost seemed very high. They also didn't bring enough sandbags to weight the tarps down, so they took some rocks from my garden. I didn't mind too much, but it certainly wasn't a very professional job. They had lots of lips and gaps that would have surely blown the tarps away. I went and bought some duct tape to seal up all of the overlaps on the front portion of the job protecting the pool, and used a bunch of firewood logs to help weigh it down. The crew helped. The pool area was secure. After they had gone, I surveyed the job and noticed that there were still many gaps and bunches in the tarps on the hillside. I called to let them know, and the person I spoke with told me he would come back the next day. All night, the tarps were blowing and cracking, and by morning, all of the tarps had blown off the hill before he showed up. He was supposed to arrive between 7 and 8am. I called him before he was to arrive to let him know, and he said he would come as soon as the weather broke a bit. There were plenty of breaks, but he never came. I called and asked to speak to the owner around 11:30, who was never available. He eventually came back with one other person with more stakes and got the tarps back down. The tarps have stayed on the hill, but when they came back the second day, the crew chewed up my hillside even more, and used even more of my landscaping rocks that I use for a water diversion. I've been using them for years for tree service and other things, and they have always done a great job. This is the first time I've asked them for tarping. I tried again today to reach out to the owner. He still isn't available, but I want him to come see the work that they did. I made an appointment for tomorrow quite some time ago to perform some tree service in the same area where the tarps are located. I called and spoke with the receptionist to bring this situation to light, and she assured me that they would come back and re-do everything appropriately, while also retrieving my landscaping rocks.
