They jerked us around the entire time. Didn't know that the area at issue couldn't take tile until the date they were supposed to start work. Then they jerked us around for weeks not showing up as promised. When we cancelled they tried to take an administrative fee and then finally agreed to a full refund of the deposit which we have yet to receive. This has been 5 months of aggravation so far.
Response from Campbell Roofing & Sheet Metal
"Unfortunately this is one of those jobs. This is a 100 year old residence with extreme damage. Due to the historical nature of this home, we needed and waited on responses from the building department on what we are allowed to do. We were told by the homeowner "I have an engineer....don't worry about it. He will tell them what ever we need." As a reputable long standing company within our community, we knew that this was not sufficient. We were contracted to complete a repair on this home. After doing our due diligence in researching how we can provide the best product brought up to all local building codes, we found that this repair was going to be upwards of $20,000. After speaking with the customer, we were told not to continue. At that point we had already expended numerous hours researching and filing for permits. The client then stopped payment on a credit card deposit. Now, they are continuing to say that they have not received a deposit back which is false. At this point this customer is trying to offset the high price of repair by trying to get money out of us which has already been taken back through the stop payment on the credit card. Unfortunately there was never any work done to that residence. The client can not afford the correct repair and truthfully this is a job that no other roofing company wants to get involved with and is currently still in disrepair."

The company came in and began the project at the scheduled date.

They were very organized and clean and tidy due to the fact that we live in a condo environment there were lots of people
around to inspect and there were no complaints.
I am a first time home buyer, and was under duress to acquire insurance for the house because the insurance company wouldn't insure without a new roof, or a contract for a new roof with a certain amount of time. The first company I contacted couldn't replace the roof within the time period specified by the insurance company. Campbell Roofing was referred to me by my realtor, who was given their name by another realtor. Personally, I will not refer this company to anyone.
I needed to have the requirements (hurricane clips and straps) of my insurance company met in order to get as many roof credits as possible to insure the best possible insurance rate. I conveyed this information to BRIAN HOLT (my sales person) and was told to meet with the supervisor of the job when they got started, and go over this information with him. I was told I would be called with the date when they planned to get started. That did not happen. I hadn't moved in yet, and just happened to take a few friends over on a Sunday afternoon to get a preview of where I was moving to, and discovered the roofers were already into Day 2 of the job, and had gone for the day. Most of the new roof in the front was already in place. I called Brian about not meeting with the roofers, and he simply refused to "see" how not having met with the roofers and explained what my insurance company needed was a problem for me. Then, I moved in prematurely so I would get a chance to talk to the roofers. There were no phone calls telling me when they would be there. The following weekend there was a knock on the door by a young Hispanic man who told me to move my car from the carport so they could work there. He didn't introduce himself. They didn't have a Campbell company truck. All the men were Hispanic, and only one of them was wearing a company T-shirt.
I was promised a roof inspection by Brian (included in the price) by an inspector they hired, after the roof was completed for my insurance company. I had to make repeated phone calls and emails to get that inspection to happen. When the inspector, KEVIN BOYER, finally scheduled and came to do the inspection he only did a partial inspection. He refused to go up into the attic space, saying he could see everything he needed to from outside, and that my roof didn't qualify for any roof credits. (NOT TRUE, my insurance agent told me) It took a few more weeks for him to get the results to me and to my insurance agent. My insurance agent told me the inspection report was inaccurate, incomplete, and didn't include the photos that Brian took of the roof while in progress, and notified both Campbells and the inspector, stating what he need for a full report. More weeks later and we still don't have a full inspection report for my insurance company. I once again contacted Brian and he assured me he would make sure it happened. Two weeks later - still waiting...NOTE: Kevin Boyer's inspection license had been expired a month when he did the job. I reported this to Campbell Roofing and didn't hear peep about it.

So, in my experience Brian Holt is a very unprofessional sales person and not a man of his word. If I had had Angie's List prior to buying a house I could have found good reliable businesses to do my repair work. I highly recommend acquiring an Angie's List membership. Personally, I would have saved a lot of money and energy.

P.S. The new roof was installed at the end of July, 2014. Immediately, there was a really bad odor of roof pitch throughout the entire house. All three of us (two cats and myself) in the house developed respiratory issues. As the weather became increasingly warmer in August the stench of the pitch became unbearable. First, it burnt my nostrils. Then my throat. Then it started burning my lungs. I even rushed my one cat to the emergency clinic due to breathing difficulties. He had developed a viral infection. When I came home from the vet I knew there was nothing else to do but shut off the A.C. and open all the doors and the windows for fresh air until the pitch burnt off. And we endured the rest of the hot summer months without A.C. because the pitch still remained an issue until the weather cooled off.

In conclusion, if you're a first time home buyer, or are going to need repairs done to your house/buildings make sure you have
good references for house inspectors, for roofers, for electricians, for AC techs, for plumbers well before you need them so you won't have to settle because of being pressured by your insurance company, or an emergency situation.

Installation was completed about 90 days from signing contract. There was not a lot of communication from the company. I never knew when or if they would be doing work on the house. When I would try and call I would get a recording or a receptionist that didn't seem to have a clue as to what was going on. When I would ask to have someone call me and let me know what was happening, many times I wouldn't get a call back. I finally had to locate the main office and drive down there. It took awhile to find, because there was no sign, and it was in with some other businesses. It was stressful to say the least. They really should put their customers at ease, and tell them what they can expect, instead of avoiding them. In the end, I had a nice roof, but I also had to repair soffits that they tore up while replacing facia.

In July we contacted Campbell Roofing to

replace a missing roof tile. They said that they would let us know when they

had the correct tile to do the work. After a month we called and were told

that they had the tile and would be scheduling the work in the near

future. Again time went on and we called to inquire. We were told at that

time the work had been done. We were never informed ahead of time so that

we could have our home watch person there to verify that the work was

done. They never sent a before and after picture to indicate the work was

completed.

Weeks went by and we received a phone

call about payment. We had received nothing and requested a bill be

sent. Two weeks later, another call, and this time the woman was very

unpleasant about payment, insisting that we had received the bill via email. We

asked that she mail a copy of the bill via USPS. When asked if she needed to

verify the address she responded, "I have your address!" No bill came

in the mail. Again, a nasty phone call. Each time we reiterated

what was happening. Finally, we did get an invoice via email ?a charge of

$367. Within a few days, another nasty phone call. When we

requested to speak to the owner to explain, she hung up. I told them I

was waiting on someone to get on the roof to verify that the work had been

done. It had been. That same day the owner finally called. We told

him our side and complained about his employees unprofessional manner, He

agreed there were some "brutal girls" working in the office!

Bottom line: We would never recommend them

to anyone. Very poor customer service.

The actual roofing went okay. They start to mess up our garage door but they came out and painted it. They do a quality work. They put so many things go wrong with this place. It took them about 2 weeks to do the job. It took them about a week to complete the job. They have the garage door fixed for 4 days. The quality of the roof itself, it failed inspection the first time because they didn’t track down the vent. They came back down to fix it and it passed. They painted the garage door because they had kind of messed it up with the equipments. When the guy came out to paint it, he painted it both. So when we open the garage door, the wire got broke and have that replaced.

They came out and did a nice job. They showed up, gave me an estimate, did the work according to the estimate and I had no problem. There was a lot of rain and no leaks. I got two estimates one was for $2500 and theirs was $500. I am a retired architect and I have an idea what it should cost. They were right in line, and they said the right words. It was not a big job and the minute the other provider said it is a big job I knew I had the wrong people. Campbell Roofing showed up on time, did what they said and they charged me after the job was done. There was no upfront money. What they said they would provide was hardy board instead of plywood because plywood was part of the roof which was rotten so I went with hardy board to be installed instead. They tried but they would not get it and I think they had to go to a builder’s yard rather than one of the store kind of place. I don’t think they went to the right place. I wanted it done with hardy board which is a cement based product instead of a wood product and that’s my only complaint. So the repair I got is not as permanent as it would have been with hardy board.
