Capital Rug Cleaning's website is very misleading, and 5 out of 6 wool rugs shrunk by .5 to 2 inches wide & length. We had 2 identical runners, and 1 runner is 2 inches shorter (see photo). Their website claimed they were wool specialists & "Your rugs always receive personal attention. All work is done by hand, eliminating the risks of dye bleeding, cross-contamination, shrinkage, or damage." Eliminating, not reducing. There wasn't any mention that wool rugs could possibly shrink--just that their rug cleaning process would better protect rugs, especially wool ones, than using a steam cleaning company that could cause shrinking. When I emailed about how much they had shrunk, I was told that happens with wool rugs ("out of their control") and perhaps the humidity also played a factor by making the drying time longer and could make the rugs shrink more. If that were true, then they were not in a climate controlled environment as also claimed on their website: "Any remaining water is extracted from the your carpet using an extraction vacuum. There is no dripping. The rug is carefully hung to dry in a temperature controlled room with filtered air drying conditions." The website clearly misrepresents their services and any potential risks. What was most disappointing was how they brushed off the shrinkage and the website claims, and just simply asking for a credit card to pay the balance. When I asked for a discount similar to what was posted on their coupon page so as to compensate for the misrepresentation/shrinkage, I was told the representative didn't have the authority to offer it to me. On their FAQ page, they state that they stand behind their work and seek 100% satisfaction. For me, it's another false claim. They were unprofessional on how they handled everything during the return of the rugs to the final payment. I gave a rating of 2 instead of 1 for quality, because the rugs do feel good and appear well washed. But, they obviously are not experts in wool rugs and that much shrinkage (or any) is inexcusable. My mom has always had her wool rugs professionally cleaned for over 50 years without any shrinkage. In the future, I will be looking for a WoolSafe certification. See photos for examples. One shows the shrinkage by the wood that was protected by the sun and now is a sore spot, among several areas in our dining room.

"Dear [Member Name Removed] W, I am sure you have signed the disclosure agreement at the time of creating the invoice for your rug cleaning services. Is that correct or not? I am not able to attach a copy of our invoice here but please read it. It clearly states like this: By signing below, I agree that Capital Rug Cleaning will not be held responsible for any damages caused to my rugs during cleaning and drying processes including but not limited to dye bleeding, shrinkage, cuts, pile distortion... So, [Member Name Removed] please remove the review because you are violating your signed agreement. I do also sincerely Ask Angi staff to get involved in solving this issue. Angi should not allow unverified reviews. Thank you"

DO NOT USE THIS CARPET CLEANER. I took a 6x9 oriental carpet in to be cleaned. When I got it home and unrolled it, the carpet has Blue, Green and Red stains and a matted surface on the tan and salmon field. I immediately brought the carpet back to Capital Rug Cleaners and they denied causing the stains. When I told them I had a contractor at my house who would testify they watched me unroll the carpet and it had the stains….they changed their story that the stains must have been there to begin with….No – they were not and the rug was matted down where the stains were. While I don’t know what happened, I can only guess that they put another damp rug down on top of mine and the dye ran. Do yourself a favor and find a more reputable firm to do business because this one has not stood behind their work in ruining my carpet. This is not the way to treat customers. At this point I will have to sue them in small claims court to recover the cost of this ruined $2500 piece of carpet. They are not willing to acknowledge their mistake. I specifically wrote to them and they failed to acknowledge the letter or reply in any way. Copy of letter below 174 Dividing Ct Arnold, MD 21012 April 12, 2017 Capital Rug Cleaning 836 Richie Highway, #3R Severna Park, MD 21146 Mr. Hamidull Wardak On 20 February 2017, I delivered to your location in Severna Park 2 wool oriental rugs for cleaning and paid a 50% deposit of $94.54. There were no stains on the carpets and only general cleaning was required. No stains were noted when I delivered the rugs to you. The rugs were picked up 7 March 2017, paying the remaining 50% balance of $94.54. The rugs were rolled in paper and were not inspected at the time of pickup. One of the rugs was cleaned satisfactorily without problems. The second rug, which is a handmade wool Mahal rug, approximately 6’x9’ was found to be stained and something spread on the surface when it was unrolled on 22 March 2017. A contractor, doing electrical work, was present when the carpet was unpackaged and unrolled. Also noted was something on the surface of the rug in the area of the stain that ‘matted’ the surface. The contractor can and will provide affirmation of the stains and ‘matted’ area. The rug was immediately rerolled and returned to the Capital Rug Cleaning with a request for remedy of the stains. On 7 April 2017, after not hearing from you for 2 weeks, I called you and you asserted that you could not have put the stains on and were sure they were not present when you returned the rug.…. Respectfully I disagreed and noted that the stains were present when I unrolled the carpet. You agreed to work on the stains and advise further by 14 April, 2017. On 12 April 2017 I returned your call from the night before. After some discussion you agreed that the stains were on the rug when you returned it to me, however, you then then asserted that the stains must have been present when we brought the rug in the first time. I questioned how this could be if you did not note it then or tell me you could not get them out when you returned the rug to me? At that point discussions broke down and I requested compensation for the ruined rug. I have the original rug tag and business card from the purchase of the rug and it was valued at $2490.00. Please remit to me $2490.00 by COB 28 April 2017 for the Mahal carpet your business stained and ruined. Failure to remit the full amount in the time frame prescribed will result in Small Claims Court filing, BBB Filing, Angie’s List filing and many other review site filings. Respectfully Mark E. I used a $199 for 2 rugs deal. I also bought a carpet pad from them for one rug. The deal came at the perfect time for me because the rugs had gotten wet when a pipe burst. The Persian carpet was smelling of mildew but that was completely removed and the rug was in good condition when returned. The Moroccan kilim retained its color. There was some delay in getting the rugs delivered after cleaning but it was not a problem for me at all since I  was dealing with other repairs and was glad to have the rugs out of the way. Very happy with the work done. <br />
