<p>This project was years in the making.  The last pipe burst, second time in 8 years, was the last straw and it made me decide that it was time to replace the 21 year old original carpet.  The reason for my procrastination was that I wanted the ENTIRE first story carpet and linoleum flooring replaced with wood, to create a seamless look.  This means remodeling a dated kitchen at the same time because I didn't want wood flooring to be installed around the cabinets.  This required me to pull the trigger on both floor replacement and kitchen remodeling at the same time.  I spent months researching on the internet; reading up on kitchen remodeling and educating myself on wood flooring.  I must admit, I did visit one of those "liquidators" initially.  They were pushing bamboo flooring.  I did more research and read a lot of bad reviews.  I also personally have a bad experience with bamboo floors in my second home.  I came upon an excellent website for wood flooring education (email me if you want the link), and decided that I want to focus on Lauzon, Muskoka, and Somerset, and try to steer clear of China products.  That's what led me to Carlson's Flooring and another store, both of which carried at least 1 of these 3 brands.  Because of the proximity of the other store, I visited it several times and even brought home samples to help me decide.  Poor guy, I did not go with that store because they have bad reviews.</p> <p>My first visit to Carlson's gave me quite a sticker shock.  The price was much higher than what I could from some online stores.  If I were installing it myself or hiring my own installer, I would consider going that route.  After months more of research and store-hopping, I decided to bite the bullet despite the high price, and selected 2 highly-rated companies.  Even though my kitchen remodeler could also do the floor, I decided to let the kitchen people do the kitchen and the floor people (i.e. Carlson's) do the floor.  I'm also a sucker for family-owned businesses, both of which are.  From that point on, every person I dealt with at Carlson's was superb and responsive.  Greg came to measure and inspect the site.  He provided a lot of useful information, what to expect, etc.  Sally back at their office is extremely pleasant to deal with.  The store associate was not very helpful in helping with the selection and decision-making process, but luckily I've done my own research, but she was efficient with all the paperwork; i.e. emails.  The installers were very professional and efficient.  Carpet and linoleum removal, floor prep, moving of furniture without damage, all went very smoothly.  They took care of toilet removal and re-installed it expertly.  They did a wonderful job abutting the wood against the carpeted stairs with a rounded first step.  Overall, the job was flawless and I was very impressed.  My only complaint is, they did not mention anything about what they were doing with the baseboards until I asked the installers.  I didn't want the floor to be installed against them, which will make the baseboards look really short.  They said they could remove and re-install them on top of the wood floor, for an additional cost.  After a quick call, they tacked on another $300, which I wasn't too happy with, and the work proceeded.</p> <p>I must mention that I went with an expensive walnut, which was 70% of the total. The two companies -- kitchen remodeler and Carlson's -- coordinated the projects seamlessly, and I was willing to pay extra if I could eliminate any headaches, and they delivered.  I highly recommend Carlson's Flooring to anyone looking for a superior result.</p> <br />

The sales woman we dealt with was very nice and very helpful with our carpet selection process.  The quote process was slightly confusing.  It was quick and we weren't exactly sure what was included in the price.  If applicable, make sure you ask if tear out and disposal are included in the price.  Also make sure you discuss padding options and make sure your selection is reflected in the price. The installation was quick, professional and clean.  The carpet looks and feels great.  We'd definitely use this vendor again. <br />

They did a very good job. It was a family run business, they had been in business for a long time and they had a reasonable price.

Everything went extremely wll. Greg, the owner, was on top of everything as it progressed. We had a minor problem with the install of the bathroom toilet and they took responsibility and fixed all to our satisfaction. I definitely would recommend Carlson's flooring and I have never met such a fine man to do business with and my wife and I are very happy with the results <br />

Carlson's Flooring is fantastic. Overall the job went excellent. They are very accommodating. We did a full bathroom remodeling. I had some issues with timing on my plumbing supplies and they worked around that. It was like a job where they had to come in and leave and they had come back another time. It was very nice of them to do that. They are just super nice, they are just super understanding. They are nice to work with. The guys that showed up to do the work had been doing the work for a year, so nobody is doing that.

<p>The owner came to the house to do all the measuring and consulting. I had him measure the entire house for future projects. He measured, took pictures and made suggestions. He was very knowledgeable and nice.</p> <p>Our sales rep Hanna helped us pick out backsplash tile and let us take home as many samples as we wanted in order to find the best tile to match our countertop. I probably took 40 samples over a period of a month. She was really patient and didn't pressure us. She was also able to order floor tile to match our existing tile. Installation was awesome! The floor tile matches perfectly and the floor heating works well. It is hard to tell where the old tile stops and the new tile begins. The installers noticed an issue with one of my old cabinets (another installer did a poor job years ago) and suggested putting new baseboard over the funky area. The cabinets look great now, due to their fix. </p> <p>I had picked out a handmade tile for the backsplash, which arrived with some pieces cut incorrectly. They immediately sent it back and let me either order the same tile to try again or pick out something new. I decided on something new, a beautiful driftwood marble strip mosaic. The installers came back and did excellent work on the installation. </p> <p>All installation work was done neatly and precisely. They were very clean and put down tarps and carpet for walking paths. They did great work with the baseboard molding - no damage and no visible nails. </p> <p>Everyone at Carlson's was fantastic and a pleasure to work with and the workmanship is top notch.</p> <br />

1st visit the padding was thicker then rest of padding - did not carry our thickness - went out and found the correct thickness and installed. Very happy with installer and quality. Only issue was invoice was slightly higher then quote - that was based on sq foot - once contacted they stood by the quote. <br />

We've used Carlson's before and they are very professional and very nice to deal with.  The quality of there products are top notch but they are very fair with pricing.  Installation went smoothly and we love our new floors... <br />

Overall service and experience was great.  Carlson's staff were very professional and attentive.  Their showroom is very modern and robust, and we were impressed by the number of flooring choices they offered.  Our installer was punctual and hard-working, although he was not strictly a Carlson's employee.  My only negative feedback was with price, which was not low - although you get what you pay for.  Would recommend them over big-box stores and will definitely be going back for future flooring projects.

They are good folks. We used them before in 2009. Mr. Carlson, the owner, came out to estimate the job. He gave us suggestions on how it might be done in an economical and permanent fashion. He came up with some decent ideas on how to fix something and it worked. He was creative in problem solving. I would absolutely use him again.

They were excellent. I would definitely use them again in the future. They were very pleasant and always on time. They were clean. I liked their service a lot. I would recommend others to use them. I could have gotten the work for a cheaper price from somewhere else though.

I contacted Carlson?s at the recommendation of someone who swore they would only trust Carlson?s to do their floors. After Carlson?s successfully completed my basement project, I feel the same way! After only two years, the contractor grade carpeting in our basement needed to be replaced. We have a large basement ? about 1,800 square feet ? and needed a product that would stand up to a dog, a cat, and two small children. Carlson?s came up with a wood laminate product that was perfect for our needs and our budget. We met with our salesperson, Carrie, in Carlson?s showroom. She provided valuable knowledge about our initial selections and helped narrow the options to a few final choices. She then brought samples to our home and helped pick out a wood type and color that worked perfectly with our existing basement cabinetry. The installation started on the day and at the time it was scheduled. The crew was quiet, clean, and courteous. The entire project was completed in about 4 days ? on time and within budget. This level of service is almost unheard of these days! A few days after the install, Carrie called to verify that we were happy with our project. Our answer was a resounding ?YES!? I highly recommend Carlson?s for any flooring project and I look forward to working with them again in the future.

The showroom in Geneva was gorgeous and my designer, Lisa Maher, was professional, helpful and had a flair for design. The owner, Greg Carlson, came out and measured my home. He was prompt and very friendly. The installers were on time and walked me through the job before they started. I had not considered cork for my livingroom, I am so glad Lisa mentioned it. I love it. I am having Carlson's bid my master bath remodel. I can't wait to see it.

See above for detailed description. We were pleased with just about everyone we've worked with at Carlson's, in particular Kim, Greg and Dave. We are now considering Carlson's to complete the installation of flooring in our home.

I give them a B in my overall experience with them because I would have liked a little more help in choosing things. I would have liked a little more assistance. They knew what they were doing. They were clean, not too loud and prompt. They worked steadily though.

Fabulous! Steve has been doing floors for a long, long time and is totally trustworthy. We didn't have a moments hesitation giving him the key, and even in his interactions with neighbors (they smelled the stain) he was a true gentleman. There was hardly a bit of wood dust left in the place afterword. And it looks gorgeous. The floor matches the woodwork, the finish is great and it looks like we have a brand new floor. (The floor was 20 years old and had never been redone.) This was expensive -- no two ways about that. But it was a first class job. We looked for another company to do the job in the city of Chicago and could not find one that we trusted -- not even close. We asked realtors for recommendations and friends! Also, his estimate was exactly correct. And when Steve came out he measured every room and explained what we might want to do. The other guy that bidded for the job took about FIVE MINUTES and then was out the door -- and we got him on a recommendation.
