Did not perform work according to contract; currently in litigation with this contractor due to inability and unwillingness to finish work & fix problems his workers created on deck.

Excellent, excellent experience! From communication with office staff, to bid process through completion of construction project, Carter Construction could not have done a better job. Through each stage of the project, each person we came in contact was a consummate professional. The pride each person displayed whether it be communication with office staff to carpentry professionals there was an ever present pride in company and quality of workmanship. Without hesitation, I highly recommend Carter Construction!

The designer came out and looked at our space and existing decor, listened to what I thought wanted and showed me options. We selected what we wanted and they ordered it. They contacted me when everything was in and arrived promptly to install the fireplace. The installers were professional, put down clothes everywhere to protect carpet and furniture and were efficient. The city inspector came and then they came back to install the mantel. The supplier had stopped carrying the marble we had ordered and has substituted something else. We told Carter Custom we didn't want limestone but really wanted a light colored marble. They found us another supplier, took out the limestone and went to install the marble. The main floor piece had cracked during shipping. They got us another piece and finally we got it all installed. The installer showed me how to use the remote control and how to manually over ride in case of a power failure. He also went through basic maintenance. I really appreciated all the communication as the supplier problems were sorted out. I always knew exactly what was going on and what the current status was. Everyone was friendly, helpful and professional and overall we had a great experience. The price quoted and paid was considerably less than other suppliers for essentially the same product and the people were considerably more helpful. Overall I highly recommend them!

<p>The process was fabulous! Within a week of our first contact, they had someone out to assess the site so they could draft an accurate quote. The quote came back more than $4,000 less than a competitive bid we had received. They worked with us to create a corner fireplace with stone from floor to ceiling, and even used their expertise to advise us how to best mount a new T.V. above the fireplace. Carter Custom Construction was a one-stop-shop for us aside from needing the cable company to come out. Their workers were great and cleaned up to the point that I wouldn't have even known they were there. They were also resourceful... when mounting the T.V. they ran into a snag, halted what they were doing to call in a foreman, and the result was great! </p> <p>We would definitely recommend Carter Custom Construction for a fireplace installation, and any other construction-type jobs around the house. We Plan to keep their contact information readily available.</p> <br />

They did the work very soon after we decided on the job and were efficient and easy to work with.  They were able to work with the existing construction and were open to suggestions and offered good ones of their own.  The result is extremely satisfying and enjoyable - have spent many hours enjoying an insect-free existence on the porch and look forward to using the small deck when late fall and early spring are not quite conducive to porch time.  It has added an enormous flexibility and openness to the house and I could not be more pleased.  The price seemed very fair as well.  We all are very happy with the results. <br />

You should hire them.  Overall they did a great job.  I would recommend them to others.  Price was good.  They were timely and efficient and left a clean work site.  Dean was great to deal with and executed all of our requests.  When there was any minor hiccups, Benny and Dean worked together to make sure we were happy.  Beautiful fireplace, great job, great work and a job well done. <br />

First step to getting a deck is to dig the holes and have them inspected by the city.? They dug the holes and one hole was way too close to the window well - which is something they totally should have known. They even said "I thought that might be a problem" - but did it anyway.? The inspector did not approve that hole - and yet the crew showed up and started mixing concrete - didn't even look at paper to see if it was approved.? Thankfully I was home and told them so they stopped and called their supervisor.? They poured the other footings and then dug a new hole for the incorrect one.? This changed the layout of the deck and increased their bid they had given us.? Also - Instead of making the footings perfectly straight?- they must have just guessed, because they were completely obviously not straight.? They were so not straight that the posts did not sit properly on the many of the footings.?(Should be dead center).? Good enough for inspection?is apparently half on and half off - which some were - and then one was not even close to half on and was not?approved by the inspector.? The crew tried to hide it from the inspector by piling rocks next to it.? I watched them pushing the rocks all around it.? We noticed that and uncovered it before the inspector came.? He did not approve that one footing and they had to dig next to it and pour more concrete in for the post to set on - even though they had already started moving forward with building the frame.??On the second day I bought the crew pizza.? They thanked me by throwing the pizza crusts into our fire pit - which our dogs climbed into and dug out that evening and the next day.? The first day they were here - it was a high of 60 degrees.? Not 61, 60. And one of the crew had his shirt off.? My husband owned a landscaping business for 7 years and if it was 100 degrees, none of them had their shirts off - as it is not professional - at all.? Our daughter was sitting at the kitchen table most of the days - working on projects, and the windows were open because it was so nice out.? The crew knew she was right?there with the window open, and yet were swearing - clear as day - throughout the days they worked.? They were to be done on a Wednesday.? That day they all left to go finish a fireplace.? It was a rainy week and you would think they would do the outside work when not raining and the inside work when it was raining - but they left on a sunny afternoon to do a fireplace.? The next day they admitted they needed more supplies that were not here.? They ordered more but still didn't have all they needed and ordered again.?As I was watching them put the "final touches" on the deck - I saw that 2 of the crew clearly noticed that two posts, right next to each other - were not even. Very obviously not even.? One was pounding on the top of it with his fist to see if it was just the cap or the post itself.? They then turned away to do something else - were absolutely going to leave it that way.? So I opened the window and said - is that very uneven? or does it just look that way from here? They went back to the spot and admitted it was and fixed it - but without measuring or using a level.?They left and were "done" with the deck.? There were broken plates used on posts - clearly broken and they put them on anyway.?(again and again things were not right but were left in hopes we wouldn't notice).?A few sections of the railings looked correct, but 1/3 were not properly put together - had very odd spacing, etc.? I took pictures and they immediately agreed it wasn't right.? So they sent the guy who didn't do them properly to begin with - out to fix the broken plates and the badly spaced railings.? Which once again left one post higher than another right next to it - but my husband is fixing it himself - doesn't want them back here.? After they were done I had to call twice to ask that the pallets be picked up from our driveway so we could park there again. Love our deck. But so not impressed with Carter Custom Construction.?.

Working with Benny on the front end of both projects was a pleasure since he talked through alternate approaches to the jobs and then what he saw as the best approach.  Workmanship quality was excellent.  On both jobs some parts were not delivered on time--no fault of his--and he worked around the situations.  He always kept us advised of timing and was punctual.  Both jobs involved some work inside, and he put down work tarps to protect the carpet.  Clean-up was good, both inside and out. <br />
