I would not hire this person again. I went away with the feeling that he wanted to get the money and run rather than doing a good job. I have no idea where the A ratings came from. Part of my house remain unpainted, even after I had shown him that it needed to be painted. My front door was painted while closed which means that there is an unpainted strip when opening the door! In addition, he threw the paint buckets into my trash bin. There is now paint on the inside of my trash bin with rubbish stuck to it! I contacted Mr. Carter twice to complete the invoice showing that only half of the payment had been made. We arranged to me, but he never showed. That was another indication that he wasn't interested in completing the transaction but wanted the money. I have had neighbors who saw him and his assistant painting my house. They asked for his contact information. If I had a better experience with Mr. Carter, I would have gladly passed his information on to them. As it stands, he has missed two opportunities to make money and grow his business.

The contractor did not adhere to the terms of the contract. He arrived up to 90-minutes late on two out of four days. Often arriving without the equipment needed for the job. Too much time was spent on-site sourcing and procuring supplies and equipment. His crew started painting the exterior fascia board and soffits before pressure washing. When I confronted them, I was told Mr. Carter had left. They were not shown the contract. Nor were they told to pressure wash first. All work came to a dead stop until Mr. Carter returned. (Unbeknownst to me, a pattern was developing. Mr. Carter had a habit of leaving the site around noon each day. Despite having just arrived in some cases.) Upon Mr. Carter’s arrival, I was immediately in his face, complaining about the situation. He left and returned with a pressure washer. While the rest of the crew did nothing. Anxious to see some progress being made, I pointed out other areas that were to be painted, I was told “the crew” were hired to paint anything requiring the use of a ladder(s). On the next to the last day of the work schedule, I met with Mr. Carter to see if the color of the inset and finial of each of the corbels, could be changed from white to blue. Of course I was willing to buy for the change order. I told him to name his price. Upon arriving the next morning, Mr. Carter abruptly announced, “He (and I presumed his crew) would not be using the ladders today.”. Meaning no portion of the corbels would be repainted. So much for customer service. When the job came to an end, they began loading their tools and equipment into the truck. It was clear, they were trying to put 10 pounds of something into a 5-pound bag. Mr. Carter asked permission to store one of the ladders on the premises. I acquiesced. Over a week later, it’s still here. Then came settling the bill. I wrote a check against an account I’ve used almost exclusively, without difficulty, since moving to St. Louis in August 2007. Mr. Carter rejected the check, because the bank on which it was drawn is not local. So I voided that check and wrote another against an account with a local bank. I did forewarn him, although there are sufficient funds in the account is barely active. Further explaining he may have trouble cashing it. (The account was for a former tenant to deposit their rent.) He left. In less than 30-minutes he was back. This time he wanted me to make the check out to himself or his significant other; instead of his company name. This sounded fishy. So i voided the second check and wrote a third check out to him. After he left I surveyed the workmanship and found it to be well done. The time I’d spent introducing him to a neighbor whose home was in need of exterior painting and pointing out the foot traffic as my neighbors (who may also need exterior painting) walked their dogs; seemed to have paid off. He and his crew weren’t terribly tidy. There were a few conspicuous drip marks. Plus they had to ask me for a rag(s) to cleanup with. Which should have been a sign to kick all of them to the curb. Rather than continuing to fume, I opted to soak in the tub. As I languished, my mobile phone rang. Then the landline rang. Both were conveniently located out of reach. Afterwards, I reviewed my voice mail. Both calls were from my local bank. Since I hadn’t written a check against the account in over 90-days (more like 9-years), they were calling to verify I’d written a check to Mr. Carter. I could have disavowed all knowledge of Mr. Carter. But I didn’t. That resentment was now swirling done the drain.

Awesome experience! Called him late on a Saturday evening and he came out a few hours later and provided me with a quote. He was very professional and his quote was very reasonable. He came out 2 days later with his team and they provided a very professional service and a superb quality of work. He also offered to come back at a later date, if we found any deficiencies. Great experience and I would definitely recommend.

Mr. Carter did a nice job painting the walls down the stairwell leading to the foyer. He also painted the foyer. He was very thorough with his work and made sure to finish at the time he had promised. I would recommend him to others looking to hire a contractor for interior painting.
