We scheduled this work to be done while we were out of town on vacation. We came home and everything was completed- no problems, and done exactly as we wanted. Could not be happier.

The end result is very nice. The only issue is that we failed to foresee the extent that the floor would show up anything, however small, on the floor. But we're glad that we chose this flooring.

We wanted a mat made for our family room carpeting (which Cawood installed). We had a large remnant and they made the mat in a week's time. It looks great and is well-made.
When things settled down enough that I could deal with my carpet disaster, I called Jerry at Cawood. He had always been so friendly that I was certain he would be willing to help. I blamed the manufacturer of the carpet at first explaining to Jerry that the carpet was NOT wearing well and that it looked as if it were ten or fifteen years old--not just three years old. I asked him about the warranty because he had never given me a copy of anything besides the invoice and receipt for payment. He assured me he would contact the carpet manufacturer customer service rep and have that man contact me to come and look at the carpet. I offered to send Jerry photos because I said he would NOT believe how poorly and how quickly the carpet had worn. (Yes, I have pets, but I have a small family and am meticulous abut caring for my home. My cleaning lady can attest to this and the horrible condition of the carpet.) it has now been almost four months. I have called Jerry at Cawood repeatedly. I have never been contacted by the carpet manufacturer. When I last spoke to Jerry, he--for the first time--asked how often I have gotten my carpet cleaned. He explained that if I didn't have receipts to show cleanings every 18 months my warranty from the manufacturer was void. Never had Jerry mentioned that before. He had not even given me warranty information. I asked Jerry how cleaning the carpet prevented strings and snags and excess wear. I wondered how having the carpet cleaned before it was even a year old would have prevented my carpet disaster. Jerry cares so little about customer satisfaction that he would not even look at photos of the carpet. Of course, he is the same person who recommended this type of carpet to me. Perhaps he does not want to look at his mistake. I should never have bought this type of carpet or this brand of carpet--I wanted quality carpet that would last for many years. Instead I got a carpet that did not even last for one year. I am left with a $4000 mistake. Please do not purchase Beaulieu carpets, especially the Tracery design. Even where the carpet has not snagged, the carpet already looks worn. Other carpet I have had has lasted fifteen years and not looked this bad! And although Cawood did a beautiful job installing my hardwood floors in my kitchen and living room, I could not recommend them as a business if you need carpet. Who has $4100 to waste on such a poor investment and who has time to call four, five, and six times to be told one thing and then another?

I researched online re: carpet manufacturer warranties. After reading, I learned that the carpet warranty is only as good as the company who sold it and installed it. That company's reputation dictates whether a customer will be treated fairly when problems arise with carpet. Cawood is certainly not standing behind the carpet its salesman recommended I purchase! I am left wondering how folks at Cawood would feel if they had to stand on my carpet if it were in their homes.
This review is long overdue. The house we purchased is 20-something years old and had old 12x12 tile on top of an extra layer of plywood on the first floor as well the original carpet throughout. Cawood was recommended to me by my uncle, and I had called or visited several other vendors as well. I chose Cawood because of the quality of their product, personalized service from Mr. Cawood and their reasonable price. Their crew arrived on time and worked hard to remove the nailed down subfloor under the tile. After this was done, the crew discovered that our floors were not level enough to install the hardwood we'd chosen. They could have done a few things to even out the original sub floors and just installed the new hardwoods...I would not have known the difference. But Mr. Cawood visited the site and explained how our new floors would buckle or crack if we didn't work on the subfloors first. Even though he had to rearrange his crew's schedule and other jobs, he made sure our job was done right. He called a few contractors he knew and gave us names of those who could do what we needed and fit us in. We chose one of them, the work was completed, and Mr. Cawood came out to inspect the subfloors before the new hardwood and carpets were installed. Once he gave the ok, his crew installed our hardwood and carpet quickly throughout both floors of our home. Today, a few years later, both carpet and hardwoods still look brand new. The hardwoods are durable, don't scratch easily and the color is beautiful. Our carpeting is soft, extremely stain resistant, and still plush. I appreciate the value and service we received from Cawood floors and will call them when we decide to redo our basement.
We had discount coupons initially that helped. But they did such a fantastic job, we hired them again without a coupon. When we did our kitchen, we decided to hire someone else...big mistake...some of those tiles are raised higher than others, the grout was too low. My husband and I had to spend hours redoing thing just to bring it up to acceptable. If I hire out any more flooring projects, it will only be to Cawood. They are more than other companies...but you get what you pay for...and Cawood is a quality company...truly first rate!
Excellent company. Professional throughout. Marvin, the installer, is outstanding! Very experienced and takes the time to do a thorough job. He went out of his way and came up with an ingenius idea to tackle a tough unexpected problem with a pedestal sink. We thank him for that. It was not an easy thing to do. We would definitely use Cawood again and highly recommend them.
The floors look great. They did not put back any of the floor grates/vent covers when they left, and since I was not there, I had to go searching for them and put them back myself, but that was no big deal.

We dealt with Jerry Burress and our experience with Cawood Flooring was a nightmare. He started out by instructing the installers to lay the kitchen travertine pattern in the wrong direction when the installers called him to confirm the correct direction. He had a clearly marked diagram along with contacting phone numbers of both my husband and myself, along with our general contractor as well. This mistake cost us an extra $200.00 to replace the travertine tiles that had to be broken up and removed. Jerry had apparently hired a subcontractor to install our flooring and there was constant fighting between the two of them regarding the amount that Cawood Flooring was paying them. Since I had hired Jerry (Cawood Flooring) and paid them, I felt this was extremely unprofessional. I guess that is why people warn against hiring someone who subcontracts. At one point the installers called me up on my cell to tell me that I had to come home and go buy them a metal strip for the threshold because their company was not going to put any extra money in my job because Cawood was not paying them enough!

Per agreement,we had paid 1/2 of the job cost at the time of scheduling and the balance was due upon completion of the job. One day about half way through the job, imagine my surprise when I opened my charge card to see that there was an unauthorized charge by Cawood Flooring for the balance. Also, three of the travertine tiles cracked with 3 months of installation and despite multiple attempts to contact them by both my husband and our general contractor for the past 6 months we still have not received a response from them.

Besides the problems my wife mentioned above the overall installation quality was very poor. Tiles installed are not level and the spacing between tiles is inconsistent. Even though he told me he was a carpenter and did not usually instal tiles he was quick to point out that a real professional installer, like him, did not need to use spacers or a level. I blame myself for not throwing him out right then. Haze on tiles after installation was satisfactorily removed by a second subcontractor after very much drama and back and forth with Cawood. A little research on the internet and I realized this should never be a problem. I would not recommend Cawood Flooring to my worst enemy.

I was very thankful that we were working with Bret's Carpentry. Bret was very helpful with our remodel even with contractors that were not working directly for him.
Response from Cawood Flooring Systems
"Cawood was very sorry to hear of the member's experience with our company. Upon reading the complaint, we called the customer and requested an opportunity to fix the floor. A mechanic was sent to do repairs and all items were corrected. We apologize for the job not being handled better. However, we do offer a lifetime installation warranty. It was our pleasure to repair the areas. It is our hope that the member will contact us with any future problems or concerns."

The sales person was very professional when he came out to give us an estimate. We went to the showroom and picked out the product we wanted. The installation was scheduled for @ one month later to fit in our remodeling schedule. The installers were prompt and courteous. They were there for two days. They advised us on the best way to trim the flooring around our stone fireplace and it turned out perfect. They were neat and clean. We were very pleased with the job. We will definitely use them again in the future!!
Excellent customer service from start to finish. I interviewed six companies and Cawood was way ahead of the pack. Molly is so prompt at answering calls and emails. When I needed help evaluating the wood under my carpet, Molly asked Wayne Moore (the gentleman who does the refinishing) to stop by. Wayne and Greg Ball arrived on 10/10 and removed and hauled away the old carpet. By 10/14 the floors were all refinished with shoestrips and transitions installed. Molly then came out to vacuum since I was a little nervous. They kept the dust to a minimum and when the job was finished, Wayne, Greg and Molly returned on 10/17 to put all of my furniture back and help with the clean up. This company has the most attentive staff. Molly, Greg and Wayne were not only kind and considerate, but made me feel like we were all in this project together. You do want this staff to do your floors!

There was a slight mixup initially when i called for an appointment for someone to come out for an estimate but it worked out well as we got to work w/Jeff Cawood. He had been out of town but when I called in to find out why noone was here at the appointed time, he came out later the same day. After this questionable start, I cannot imagine how the whole job could have gone any better. We are very pleased.

Jeff and his contacts helped us pick out the new tile for the bathroom remodel, including the listello (a new word i learned!) which went very well with our tile and paint scheme. He also referred us to a dealer for shower enclosures. The completed room looks like one right out of a brochure. We are very glad we did it. Jeff recommended the tile work be done first before the wood refinishing and carpet, so that is what we did. Jim and Dave removed the old tile in the shower, around the whirlpool, and a small portion of the floor, then tore out the old carpet in the rest of the bathroom. Jim noticed that the whirlpool water supply lines did not have shut off valves installed and was very accomodating in working around a plumber that installed new ones. Now if there is a problem, we can turn the water off to the tub, not the whole house. I also like the way the new access panel was installed-a 12-in tile was caulked in place instead of grouted, so it looks very clean but is still easily removed and replaced. After the new grout dried for three days, Bill came back to apply grout sealer. [I would like to point out that another bidder for this job wouldn't do that, i was told to put the sealer on myself.]

Wayne and Greg sanded, repaired, and refinished the hardwood floors next. I was a little concerned because i knew going in that they do not use the new dust containment systems that are supposed to minimize dust. So yes, there was dust, but due to their good preparation and clean up, it was not nearly as bad as i had anticipated. [In fact, it was not nearly as bad as the dust from the interior painting done prior to this. There were so many patches sanded that gypsum dust got into all the cracks, that was much worse than the sanding dust.] Bill did a great job of hanging painter's plastic in the open foyer area to prevent dust from getting to the second floor. All the kitchen cupboard doors/drawers were taped up too. The large open doorways were draped with heavy canvas to minimize dust intrusion into adjoining rooms. In a paranoia move, we had put painters plastic over the furniture in the adjacent rooms as a back up measure. Only one of those rooms had a small amount of dust get through in a small area. So it was not nearly as bad as anticipated. [As a side note, a friend of a friend had recently had his floors refinished using the new type of dust containment system but he said there was still dust everywhere.] One floorboard had to be replaced but other damaged areas were either patched or sanded out. There was one spot where a 4-inch long, 1/4 in wide splinter had come out, but the patch was invisible. Wayne helped match the stain very close to the existing color which we wanted to keep. We chose a semigloss finish and are very happy with the results.

Finally, the carpet was replaced. We had no problems picking out the style of carpet we wanted but did go around a few times on the color. Jeff was very helpful. When the time for installation arrived, Larry and TJ moved the furniture, removed the old pad/carpet, and installed the new pad/carpet pretty much on a room by room basis. Some of the furniture was very heavy but they got it done. The stairway landing area had a different kind of binding that they matched up perfectly. All of the seams look invisible. The new carpet is so soft we like to walk around barefoot. Jeff did a great job planning out the work; a competitor overestimated the amount of carpet by approximately 10 percent.

The different phases of work were scheduled for 3 consecutive weeks. The tile and carpet phases took a little longer than planned but the job was still completed by the end of the last week.

Did I mention everyone was very easy to work with? They were. And they all iterated that the job wasn't done until we were satisfied. Did I mention that Cawood guarantees their workmanship? They do. Call them if you need something they provide. I will.
