Joe responded to my online "request for quote" within an hour of me posting it. He offered to come the next morning and arrived exactly on time. He assessed within 10 minutes that a capacitor in one of our units had blown, probably due to a line surge from a lightning storm, and had a replacement capacitor in his truck. The capacitor was replaced and the repair completed in 30 minutes. He then a quick review of our entire system to assess its overall health. My experience with Joe was so good that I have asked him to send me a service contract to maintain my AC system going forward.

Highly recommended! Joe is our new hero. The real feel temperature was 105 and our central air stopped working. We called at close to 5 o'clock in the afternoon. Joe came at 7 o'clock the next morning, quickly determine what was wrong, fixed it, and we're getting cool again!

Fixed and replaced piping to 2nd bathroom

I've been using Central Suffolk Mechanical for my AC and heating maintenance for a number of years at 2 houses in Suffolk County. I called Joe, the owner a few years back when my AC unit stopped working on a hot summer day and Brooklyn Union Gas, who I had a service contract with, indicated it would be 24 - 48 hours before they could come out to my house. Joe did not know me at the time but he still came out the same day and was able to repair the unit and get it up and running. That is the type of service that Suffolk Mechanical supplies. Their work is always performed professionally and timely. An extremely reliable service. I also had a hot water heater and a central AC unit installed, again done professionally and at the time and price promised. I highly recommend Joe and his crew for all HVAC needs (maintenance, repairs, installations).

I highly recommend Joe and his crew for all HVAC needs.

I first started to have a leak from our drip pan in the attic from the old AC unit. When I called One Hour Heating & AC (franchise in Cold Spring Harbor), they sent Joe to check out the situation.  He explained that the AC unit was very old and the pan couldn't be replaced separately.  He eventually talked me into buying a new AC unit.  Given that my unit was old and it really didn't work that well, I don't think this was too unreasonable.  So, Joe installed a new unit for $6800 in July 2009.  That summer, I noticed that the unit wasn't working that well.  I had Joe come out and check the system multiple times (at least 5).  By the following June (2010), the AC unit was not working properly.  By this time, the owners of the franchise went out of business and sold their customer list to Joe Kochmann, the technician, who started his own company, Central Suffolk Mechanical.  I suspected a refrigerant leak.  Joe came out and denied that there was a leak.  He believed that I had a faulty expansion valve (whatever that is).  He replaced the expansion valve under warranty and refilled the low refrigerant for $400.  After this, the air return was coming out around 59 degrees.  Later that summer, I noticed that the air return was over 70 degrees and I called Joe again.  He claimed the warmer air return was due to the hot weather and told me to wait and see. Fast forward to this spring (2011).  The air return on a warm spring day was coming out at 79 degrees.  So, I called Joe again.  He hemmed and hawed and said he would get back to me the next day.  The following day, no phone call.  I called him back two times and left messages.  Again, no call.  I got the sense that he was NOT interested in dealing with this situation. So, I called another company and explained the situation.  Guess what - I have a leak in the system.  Just as I had suspected from the get go.  Now, I have to pay another $850 to remedy the situation, AND have wasted $400 on a new expansion valve which I don't think I ever needed, AND Joe is unwilling or unable to fix the situation that he created. So, the punchline - if you need any AC work done, I would definitely NOT use Joe Kochmann of Central Suffolk Mechanical.  The only positive thing I can say about him is that he was always on time when he did come for the appointments.  His responsiveness initially was pretty good, however, I am giving him an F now as he refused to return my calls.
