Classic Remodeling NW Inc

I am a repeat customer, so I knew the carpenter, Joe, coming in. I started by using their design contractor. I gave her the colors and ideas (beach theme, ceramic wood-look floor tiles), and she pulled the rest together. Invaluable because I can't trust my own taste. They removed a square shower in the corner and a set of shelves next to it, and glassed in that end of the room for a full shower. We put tile down along the whole room, with a recessed shower pan, and a linear drain against the wall. Joe built-in medicine cabinets, and trim all around the room, per my design pictures. The subs included a glass door guy, the plumber, the tiler, painter, and the countertop slab tiler. We also had some work done in our hallway. They removed the single boob light from the middle, and installed two recessed lights on either end, along with putting two switch boxes on either end of the hallway. Joe built a floor to ceiling cabinet in a 13” dead space at the end of the hallway, which included a laundry hamper on tracks, cubbies, and shelves. And then on a whim, I asked to have our old hallway linen cupboard doors replaced to match the new ones. We had two leaks during and after, but one reason I would use them again, is how they handled both times. One was a leak from the plug on the toilet supply. We found it on a Saturday morning, and I ended up waking up our carpenter with my text. He came out and figured it out and fixed it by 1. The other one was after everything was done and cleaned up, and we had paid for everything. The basement bathroom ceiling, fan, and wall below the master was wet one day, and we realized a joint in the pipe from the master toilet to the stack was slowly dripping between the two rooms. I texted Joe again, and he referred me to our GC, who came out with a plumber and fixed it. They had to make a hole in the downstairs drywall, so he has been coming back regularly to put three layers of mud on the new drywall. I was so sure that they would regretfully find that it wasn't their fault and we would have to deal with the cost and bother of finding a plumber and carpenter. Start to finish, it took about four months, but three weeks of that was the initial tile order, and another three for an incorrect tile order.

We were really impressed with Classic Remodeling. They did full updates on our bathroom and kitchen and we’re thrilled with the results. Their main contractor Russell is super responsive and was respectful of our budget - we never felt like they were trying to up-sell us. Both projects finished on schedule and look fantastic. We would recommend and use them again.

Overall we are extremely pleased with Classic Remodeling. As with every job of this size, there were a few hiccups along the way and a little bit of a quality issue, HOWEVER, our project manager was *extremely* responsive and remedied everything to our satisfaction. The office staff is very friendly and checked in weekly to see how the project was going. Russell, our project manager, was amazing and responded to questions and text messages within minutes, even on the weekends. During a time of a remodeling boom, where all trades are extremely busy, they did a good job of keeping our project on track and moving forward. We are thrilled with the final result and would hire this company again (as long as we get to work with Russell again).

Not only did I get the plans I wanted and get them approved at the city. But then I changed the plan after already getting started. Adding more floor space. They helped me with this change and with the city and stood with me the whole way. At no added cost by the way. Way cool and these people are. The project is a two story garage, I doing this myself and having never done this level of construction before I could never have done it with out Classic Remodeling NW. Inc. Overall, we are pleased with the results - our house has really been transformed. The mill work is beautiful, and we had drawers and shelves built in to our master bedroom area that we are very pleased with. I recommend hiring a designer and having that worked out ahead of time. There were several quality issues (getting things level, window trim and tiling work in bathrooms); however my understanding is that this is not typical and due to some new crew members and the project manager being over capacity. The owners have been great to work with - responsive and very patient with our cumbersome loan process (even when it meant delay in payment to them by several weeks). They have been working with us to make sure quality issues get addressed and have been instilled confidence in us about the degree to which they stand behind their work.

Pros: The employee who did the work did a great job, he was left alone to work on the house most days and only had help for a short period. They worked with the customer to pick a plan and did not force anything without agreement of the customer. Cons: Was difficult to work with when something changed. Their electrical contractor misquoted codes and when brought up that I didn't want him doing the work (as he was attempting to charge an additional $4,000.00 to move the breaker box that was not necessary) it was difficult to have the estimate reflect that work was not being done. It appears that they do not have a cost per line estimate system that they can provide to the customer if requested. Also it seemed as though they took his job as a second job to do when they didn't have something better. There were times that I wondered if the contractor would even show up and what was quoted as a 7 day job ended up taking close to 6 weeks. Also have not finished adding the privacy glass in the bathroom window as was ordered. They advised the window store messed up and they would be out to fix the problem, this was approx 1 month ago and I haven't heard anything to date. Overall - Good Builders but don't plan to have great communication or the job completed on the timeline they gave.

Ward came out and did an estimate.  Following the estimate, he drew up the plans for the space.  They got permits from the City which took three months.  Once the permit was received they started the work.  Joe was our Project Manager and our head Carpenter was Rob.  The majority of the time Rob and Andrew were the two who worked on the addition.  The people who were working on our home were very nice and easy to work with and we felt we could communicate well with everyone. We appreciated that there were not a lot of different people in our home.  The strength of this company is the quality they deliver and the people working for them. The project took longer than expected, but it is an extremely busy time right now in the construction business.  We are very happy with the results, and love our new space!  We would work with this company again. <br />

The work itself was not bad but the competency of the office and handling of the job was atrocious. <br />  We contacted them in January and had them come out to take a look. We gave them our first payment on January 26th (~50% of the estimated total). We were told it would be approximately a two week job.  We kept asking for a start date and were ignored or deferred. In the meantime, in Feb, we sent them contacts to get the materials we wanted and some sketches. All the information to order the materials (pending their measurements) was given to them in detail.  The week of March 3rd they were supposed to come out to do measurements but did not and then kept deferring citing excuses of people being sick. However, they never bothered to communicate with us until pushed. <br />  On April 3rd the workers finally arrived, but they had just been told of the job that morning and really had no idea what was going on. However, they looked around and gave us a spiel about how it was so important to them to keep communication lines open with the customer and would give us a job board so we would know what was happening. Also, the time estimate was approximately 2 weeks depending on inspections. <br /> The first day they did demolition and did it well but then after that was a lost cause.  In the second week they were waiting for electricians, gas professionals and plumbers to show up to assess the job and schedule. Then they told us that they never ordered the materials and that it was our fault. We pointed out that we gave the list in Feb and then the admin tried to tell us it was our fault there were no measurements. This already was going to delay the job by at least a few weeks as cabinets, countertops, flooring, etc. had to be ordered. The fact that they were trying to blame us was amazing. <br /> During this time they sometimes showed up, sometimes not. There was no job board in site. When in the third week we insisted on one, it was put in the room but after the first day was NEVER updated again. We were now a month in. <br />  They kept delaying even coming in to do the work and then the inspections for the outsourced work. Amazingly a subcontractor of theirs at this time told us they were also re-thinking the relationship with them as they were so unreliable. Keep in mind at this time they had our initial deposit plus the second payment. They had no dates on delivery of materials nor did we have confirmation of what was ordered. Finally in mid-May we demanded they at least finish the room minus the kitchenette so it could be lived in again.   They worked a weekend to finish but still ended up going through to Monday/Tuesday to finish paint. They did not bother with finishing the trim on the floor and left a nail sticking out. When asked why the floor trim was not ordered, they said it was and they had it but chose not to install it yet. (not in the kitchenette area). In the meantime we had to have the electrician come back as the ceiling fan and tv cabling was incorrect and not working. We were told the cabinets would come in the week of Memorial Day. Keep in mind now that we are at TWO MONTHS at a TWO WEEK job. Then they tell us, the countertop will be another two to three weeks on top of that. <br /> The cabinets came and based on our design were sort of to specs but made no sense to the scale of the room. We had asked for the sink to be in a corner cabinet and showed that in the sketches. They said corner cabinets would not work as they had lazy susans (so take it out) and ordered a regular cabinet and came to install.  Ridiculously, that took up half the room and made no sense as to functionality when put together. As both husband and wife, we had spent numerous days babysitting them, we could not that day and had to actually go into work to pay for these people. We asked them to put the cabinets straight against the wall as this made no sense and would cost alot more for countertop but with no functional space. The fact that they consider themselves contractors who are experienced and did not stop this is amazing. They charged us nearly $500 for the 'change order' and determined they had to order more parts from the cabinet maker to stretch out the date again.  This also took a lot of explaining to the worker to have him put the cabinets in a straight line. <br /> In the meantime, they had also forgot to put the trim back they had removed in the garage and in changing around the cabinets created more work.  Then we had to wait for the countertop people to template and then install. Once that was done and the additional trim was in we were promised it would be one visit to finish up. <br /> Well of course not!  The last 'visit' ended up being all day and did not nearly finish. And of course we are then told that the office manager never bothered to order the backsplash that was on the list. We had to produce the documentation that we had requested for that. However, they were quick to bill us for the cabinet 'change order'. The worker then had to call the office to talk to the office manager and go buy tile himself that was similar from home depot. He was to come in the next day and finish the back splash and trim. Well, the next day, his saw was broken and he wasted half the day going to get a new one (this was the company's) and working. He had to come back yet another day when he was then delayed due to an issue with his truck. <br /> Unbelievably the job was finally finished at the end of June. 3 months after start and 5 months after payment on what was to be a 10 business day job. The worst part was the lack of organization, accountability and communication from the office. It was horrific and we would never recommend anyone work with them ever. <br /> Contractors seem to get away with this stuff as they have enough business. They are quick to take our money and lock us in but make no effort to be accountable for their side.   <br /> We were new to the Seattle area and found these people on Angie's List. We were highly disappointed.  Even their own subcontractors didn't like working with them. <br /> HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!! DO NOT EVER GIVE THEM ANOTHER CENT OR ANY BUSINESS!! <br /> <br />

Ward and Mike were very easy to work with in every respect.  Communication was clear and they lived up to everything they promised.  We would highly recommend them to anyone and will definitely use them again in the future. <br />

Overall, Classic did a great job for me. I will use them again. They were courteous, communicated well once the job was in motion, used quality materials, and it looks great now that it's done.  <br /> There were two parts to my job.   <br /> I had a garage with a rooftop deck that was leaking.  It turned out to need a substantial structural rebuild. The work they did was quality and it looks awesome. I have a 104 year old home with a lot of detailing and they did the work right.  <br /> Second, were some doors and windows that needed replacing in my house. These were done well, the right way, and I'm very happy.  <br /> Downsides: <br /> Project management was weak. Materials that could have been ordered on day one, and measurements that could have been taken right away didn't happen until the last minute. However, I will note that the PM who took over the job was a good communicator.  So, although, it took longer than needed, I at least knew what was up. Read the document you're signing carefully.  <br /> If something that you discussed isn't detailed in the estimate, it's going to cost you to get it. Even though you covered it and maybe discussed it in detail with Ward, if it isn't written down that way, it's not in the estimate.  <br />

With in 24 hours of contacting Ward he was out to our house and reviewed what we were wanting to do to this master bathroom.  Ward was very open to what our wants were and reviewing what is possible.  He allowed us to have the design we wanted.  Once project was started we had the same construction worker here everyday and on time.  Jim was the worker and I can not say how pleased we were with his detailed work. <br /> Project was to remove garden tub, large window, and small shower.  Tear out tile flooring, existing duel sink and vanity and toilet.  And raise a ceiling beam. <br />  A Large fully tiled and glassed in shower was built in. Shower has 3 wall body sprays, ceiling rain head and a hand held sprayer. Shower floor has rock flooring.  All grout is epoxy grouting. New pantry and vanity was installed. Silistone counter top and vessel sinks installed.  And new flooring.  Chair height toilet also installed.   <br /> Only sub contracted work plumbing and electrical.  Cabinet built by Canyon Creek in Monroe <br /> I highly recommend Jim who is the construction worker.  He was very professional, timely and always communicated with us to make sure we got exactly what we wanted. <br /> I could send e message to Ward and knew I would get a rapid response.  Received timely communication on billing.  Billing was done in segments and with an over and under billing. So we knew how much project was costing. No surprises. <br /> I would and will use these folks again. <br />

The work was done in a more than timely fashion; could not have been done better and the clean-up every night and at the end of the project was incredible. The spiral staircase kit asks for two people to install the stairs. John did it all by himself and in less time than described in the instructions for two people. John and Ward were always friendly and very courteous. I recommend Classic Remodeling NW Inc. with John on the ground to every one.

Everything went wonderfully. Ward, the owner came to collect details about the project. Joe, however, did all the work. He was excellent and very hard working. A very conscientious young man with strong skills in carpentry.  <br /> My only recommendation when working with Classic Remodeling would be that you communicate the original plan and ideas to the carpenter working on they job. A few very small details were lost in translation.  <br /> I would certainly highly recommend Classic Remodeling and we plan to use them again in the near future. <br />
