In May, 2021 I hired Poches Custom Carpentry for a garage remodel . In the beginning and throughout the project, my son asked the Contractor Nick, multiple times if a permit was required and Nick said it was not. Still uncertain, my son called the County after speaking with another contractor and confirmed that we indeed needed permits pulled. We were ordered by the county that work had to stop. Before the work can start again, I needed to get the electrical inspected resulting in the sheetrock potentially needing to be redone. I can only assume that the contractor lied to us about needing to pull permits because he claims he has been in business for the last 20 years. Another concern I had was the contractor often had the smell of alcohol on him and that made be uncomfortable. I have reached out to the contractor multiple times regarding how to resolve this situation and he has not responded.

This company is the the worst I have ever encountered. I hired them on March 3, 2021 to remodel my kitchen and master bathroom. We agreed to a 6-8 week timeline and a price. I explained to them before they started that my handicapped, critically ill husband would need to returned to the master bedroom as quickly as possible because he needed the hospital bed in that room. They agreed and assured me they would have him back in his bed in two weeks. I signed the contract and paid them 1/2 of the contract price upfront on March 4, 2021. The first thing they did was postpone the start date by 2 weeks due to personal issues on their part. Secondly, when they finally did start they only showed up to work 2-3 days per week, and then only worked 3-4 hours per day. After I explained to them that their schedule would not work for us as my husband and I are elderly and my husband is critically ill, the contractors girlfriend first got very nasty with me on the phone and then she came into my home and yelled at me telling me I just didnt understand how construction worked and that they had projects other than mine to attend to. After working through that, they showed up the next day at a reasonable time and worked 6 hours. I felt that maybe things were improving and after much selling they convinced me to allow them to also do phase 2 of my reno and I foolishly gave them another retainer of $8,880 on April 14. The very next day, after cashing my check, they returned to their pattern of only showing up 2 or 3 days per week for 2-4 hours per day. Again, I complained about this schedule. This time however, they began to tell me they would not complete the change orders that we had agreed upon because the original work they had contracted to do was costing them more than anticipated. I explained that I didnt feel this was my fault as I certainly didnt hide anything from them and they bid the job, wrote the contract and knew exactly what was involved. At that point they just flat out refused to complete the agreed upon changes. Again, the girlfriend began yelling at me. At which point I became very angry and yelled back. I told her I felt they were liars and I would not stand for them ripping us off, that I would contact a lawyer if need be. I also asked them to return the second retainer of $8,880 as I did not want them in my house any longer than absolutely necessary to complete the original contract, and I did not want the girlfriend in my house at all ever again. They refused to refund my money for work they did not do and the very next day, they not only showed up, the contractor and his girlfriend walked into our home unannounced. That night, April 28, I went into to the master bathroom to see what exactly they had done and noticed that they were 2/3 finished with the handicap accessible custom shower, however the niche, the broader tile and grab bars we had agreed upon was not done In fact, I noticed the shower valves and drain were completely off center, which would make it impossible for a handicapped person to use. I sent them a text message explaining my concerns and asking them to fix the issues immediately. They showed up the next day, April 29 and informed me that to fix the off center shower mechanical would require them to redo the entire shower including breaking up concrete. Again, I explained to them that was not my problem. I hired them to build a custom shower for a handicapped person and they were giving me a shower that even an able bodied person would be unable to use. I asked them to fix it or I would turn it over to my attorney. Instead of trying to fix the problem, they packed up their things and walked off the job that was less than 1/3 completed with neatly $24,000 of my money in their pockets. This company has no integrity. They lie and flat out swindle elderly critically ill people. I would not recommend Poches Custom Carpentry to my worst

He did a stellar job and he did design work for us in the wooden floor and it is stunning. He also built us custom bookcases in the room and replaced the floor.
