Bathroom Remodel
We had a much needed bathroom repair and remodel. This included extensive floor damage, plumbing, sheet rock, shower replacement, new flooring, painting and more. Gary and his sons were great to work with. They knew what needed to be done and completed it with courtesy and professionally within the budget. I cant't thank them enough and highly recommend them.

Gary and his sons did a great job remodeling master bathroom & family room that I hired him again for the other bathrooms, laundry room and rebuilding my deck. His quotes are reasonable and the quality of his work (most of which he will do himself) is outstanding. I would use Gary again for our future kitchen remodel. What to know is that Gary can be not as responsive as he doesn't have office staff to support him.

I have had contracted with Conard construction several times for tenant improvements on my rentals as well as work on my home over the last 10 years for projects both big and small. To give context, the jobs range from siding and refacing my 110 year old home including deck replacement, window and tile installation to very smalls jobs like horse stall wall repair, stair gates and constructing a wood shed. Gary is a skilled craftsman that can take an unlevel stairs (historic) and construct a gate to match the stairs so visually it looked correct! Same with my home siding that has a corner over its 100 plus years that settled over 3.5 inches on one side. He was able to offer solutions that visually carried the lines in a pleasing manner to make it all look historically and visually pleasing. I also appreciate he can fix about anything, his last project with me included repairing a tongue and groove wall on a horse poll barn. One of the horses had kicked out a few of the lower board on a the wall. Not only did he fix the wall with additional reinforcement screws but offered a solution of a “kick wall plate” for the horse for the particular problem I was having with this stall and horse. I highly recommend Gary and his crew for his over all knowledge and skill for various construction projects as well as to his attention to clean up during the projects.

I wholly recommend Gary and his team for your contracting needs. He is honest, meticulous, and has a very creative mind. Amongst other projects we worked with Gary, one was a recent need to modify a cabinet to install a new larger wall-oven combo. After careful measurements on the facing cabinet panel and getting technical information from the manufacture on heat thresholds, he took out the old one where Gary found that the rear portion of the internal cabinet space narrowed by fractions of an inch. He advised it would be risky to put in the new oven as is after cutting the face of the cabinet and not fit. He recommended a smaller version of the oven that will fit just right. For all the prep work, he didn't even charge for it. Thanks Gary.

Excellent company to work with. Gary explained in detail my repairs required for the water damage incurred from a leaky pipe in a wall. The repairs went well, and the final result was great! Gary and his crew were great, the repair costs were fair and reasonable. Would very much recommend this contractor for a job done right.

We've now used Conard Construction for several projects. They do what they say they will do, and more. This means that the estimates are fair, quality is top notch, and the unexpected items or requested additions are managed properly and with a handshake. Excellent work. Good people.

Gary and his sons did an amazing job - great quality at a reasonable price. They did most of the work themselves rather than farming out to sub contractors. I would definitely hire again!

We had a water damage loss in our home encompassing two floors. After the cleanup by a professional company in our area we needed to find a competent contractor to come in to repair the damage. After searching the list we compiled we choose Conard Construction. Two of the five didn’t return after coming to do the estimate, one came in exorbitantly high and one bid on the job but couldn’t start until after the first of the year. Conard Construction came out and did the estimate, returned with his bid in a very timely manner and scheduled our job to start as soon as he completed the job he was working on. He offered suggestions that would make sense since we were down to bear studs in some cases. He showed up and did an excellent job. He never left messes behind. He did clean work throughout our project. I would highly recommend Conard Construction for any home needs you may have. I found him honest, trustworthy and dedicated to the task at hand. He was also our advocate when a subcontractor not affiliated with his business but hired by us independently did a very substandard job in our home. He found the source of our problem and made sure we were made whole by the end of the process. Conard Construction is an honest and very capable company to do business with.

It went well, though the job took longer and was more difficult than initially anticipated, due to the poor quality of our cabinets when first built (not Gary's fault). Gary handled this well, did not request more $$ than his original bid. He was a good problem solver. Very professional. We would hire him again for similar work.

Gary is always very prompt and professional, he replaced the kitchen sink drain all the way to the main drain under the house which involved cutting into the back of the cabinet(which he patched) and removing some of the siding (which he replaced and repainted).

Gary did a phenomenal job completely remodeling our upstair bathroom. Originally we were going to just do a partial remodel and he was very accomodating in providing multiple quotes for different amounts of work. We finally decided to do the whole thing and I'm so glad we did. Gary's price was comparable to other quotes we got and his workmanship was outstanding. He is also easy-going and a pleasure to work with. He can do almost everything, but supplies his own sub-contractors to do major plumbing and electrical, and their work was also spot on. It was very nice to have to deal with one person! We really appreciated that he met with us at the different supplier showrooms to help us pick out items like tile and cabinetry. We are first time home-owners and this was our first time doing a remodel so we very much appreciated his feedback. He worked hard to find a tile that matched something I had seen online, and at a reasonable price. He also had great advice (for example, adding a towel pantry) which hadn't even crossed my mind. We never felt pressured and he was always willing to defer go with whatever we wanted and to work with us to keep costs down. We even added on some other small jobs around the house while we had him here and he did a great job on all of it. The end result was a bright, beautiful bathroom that we adore. We'll definitely be sticking with Gary for all our future projects.

Recommendation of Conard Construction, Inc. I recognize these critiques are important. When I read a critique, I want candor. I would hire Conard Construction, Inc. (Gary Conard) for any job, anywhere in or around our house. We received 5 bids on our project to completely rebuild our main bath; including the installation of a large whirlpool bath. We had a complete list of all the elements (sink, tub, towel racks, cabinets, mirrors, etc.) to be installed. The bathroom was to be demolished to bare walls and rebuilt. Each contractor was given the list of items to be installed. The items could be found at Lowes, so each contractor could know the specifications by going online. Each contractor took at least one week to email us their bid, including the Lowes contractor. The bids ranged from $10,000 to $25,000 for labor only. Lowes was the highest. The cheap contractors gave us two-sentence statements of work; Lowes gave us a detailed breakout of six pages. Gary gave us five pages. When responding to the statement of work, Gary pointed out our design would be a bit awkward for bathroom users. He provided ideas related to cabinet design, bath surround, wall reconstruction and shower materials; ideas we had not considered. Gary’s bid was second highest at $23,000 with a detailed list of what he’d do. Lowes was highest. Additionally, Gary recommended we visit cabinet makers other than Lowes, other providers of tile and flooring, and other plumbing providers. We ended up buying nothing from Lowes. The quality of the materials we purchased from Gary’s providers were significantly better than Lowes; yes, those items cost more by about 20%, which included a discount Gary gave us on those items. Several of the ideas Gary suggested lowered the cost of labor ~ his fee! He identified work we could do ourselves that would save us even more. We did those things. The savings Gary identified from all his suggestions allowed us to expand the statement of work to include a re-tiling a hallway and guest bathroom as well as repair some woodwork. Gary’s work was not only detailed, he corrected some of the errors made during the construction of the house 30 years ago; e.g., our floor was not perfectly flat, which would have caused tile to break over time. He also had to work with missing parts from manufacturers. He handled all of it instead of just informing us. He hired an electrician, wallboard installer, and flooring contractor to implement their specialties. It was obvious he could have completed each of those areas, but chose to use part of his fee to have specialists do the work. And then he checked their work. He was different than other contractors we’ve hired in another way. The tone of his discussions with his employees and subcontractors was different; he was respectful and kind. He wasn’t bossy and he never raised his voice. We’ve heard harsh words towards subordinates by other contractors. No matter how frustrated he was or how long the day, Gary remained calm and confident in his employees and subcontractors. And now we have a beautiful new bathroom. There is no question we’d hire Gary again. If you can get him on your project, it would be a good idea.

Gary returned my call when no other contractors would, since it wasn't a large job. We had some odd sized spaces to deal with, so he offered suggestions which we welcomed. They stained the interior doors and installed pre-stained trim around them. They matched surprisingly well, and the trim turned out beautifully. He offered to install the new front door which wasn't on the original estimate (for a small additional charge), and it looks great. The work that he did tied everything together and made the house look finished. I would gladly hire him again and recommend him to anyone. He tries to help out those of us who have dealt with dishonest contractors in the past and has helped restore my faith in the profession.

Conard did some cabinet removal and met me a couple times for planning, but several weeks have passed since an abatement company finished their work and conard construction has not responded to calls or emails. I have started doing some work on my own and now have to start all over with trying to find a new contractor. I know everyone is busy now, but just looking for a 1 minute call or reply to my emails.

Removed some kitchen cabinets. Job was delayed by flooring abatement for several weeks. I think Conard is just busy with other projects. It would to get a return phone call and to get my key back.
