Vitaly (owner) came to my house to see what needed to be done and to offer suggestions. He was polite and professional.

Viktor came to work on time a few days later to start the demolition. The dumpster was not there the first day so he came back the next day to start. No problem. Viktor and his helper worked very hard to demolish the bathroom. They cleaned up each day before they left.

There was some mold on an adjacent bedroom wall , which was not surprising, since the some of the old bathroom shower tiles were missing. Vitaly thought that we could find some kind of a solution to get rid of the mold, but none of the stores had a powerful enough formula to do the job right. After a few days, I decided it was best to have that wall removed completely. Vitaly asked Viktor to give a bid to remove the bedroom wall. Viktor did not want to take on that job. Vitaly then gave me a name of a contractor who specializes in mold removal. I hired that company and in about another week, the mold wall was carefully removed and replaced with another bedroom wall.

Before the bedroom mold wall was removed, Viktor installed an outside vent cap for the bathroom fan. There is a small section of roof (approx. 18 inches) with a pitch extending from the side of the house above the bathroom ceiling where the vent roof cap could be placed.

Viktor installed a vent cap, but it was the wrong type. He installed a wall vent cap, not a roof vent cap. Also, the vent was installed over the shingles and flashing, instead of under them. If left as is, wind and rain would be able to come into the exhaust pipe or leak under the shingles and enter the bath fan/house. I notified Vitaly about it. He called me back and said that they would fix it. He said that Viktor told him that he had installed that type of vent before. I said to Vitally that I would remove it and install a new, correct type of vent.

After the bedroom wall was replaced, I decided that I did not want to use Vitaly's services any more. I called Viatly and talked to him about the situation and my decision. He was very polite and listened to what I had to say. We agreed that it was best to settle on the charges I owed him and move on.

I've called Angie's List a few times, since, to talk about the situation. One of the things that I found from the Angie's List Representative was that Vitaly's company had already been paid by Angie's List. This surprised me, since I thought a contractor would get paid for a Big Deal only AFTER the work had been done.

At this point, I want to be sure that Vitaly's company gets paid for the work they did. (they have been paid, amount is unknown)

Also, I would like to get a refund for $3700.00 I feel that I owe Vitaly $1300.00 for the work his company did. My figure includes an adjustment for replacing the bath fan vent and for the extra 5 days the dumpster sat in my yard.

I would appreciate a resolution to this situation so that all 3 parties can move on. Thank you.

Response from Construction As Investment LLC
"We will not issue any credit to the customer and here is why: My worker did all the demolition in the house. Then we did a favor to the owner by helping install the vent, as the coupon deal purchased by customer did not include vent installation. Furthermore, we have referred the customer to mold remediation professional and this company also does other handyman activities and drywall which makes me believe that the customer then hired them to finish the job. I went out of my way, cooperating with the customer and at the end he “betrayed” me. Now, obviously Angie’s got a percentage out of the coupon price too! We had a tight schedule and First customer delayed me by one week while waiting for mold remediation and I had to accommodate and at the end I still have to pay my employees even if they did not work on site. So I don’t feel that we owe any money to the customer, as stated in coupon that it’s not refundable once the work has started. The customer is also responsible for dumpster cost as I only help in facilitating the delivery of dumpster."

I purchased the Big Deal for a $8,999 kitchen remodel. Work started last week of March and ended July 2nd. I have a nice looking kitchen but getting there was not like Kitchen Crashers on DIY.
The good:
1. workers got a lot done when they were here. Per Vitaly's description, they were his best contractors. The demo went smoothly, old cabinets were taken away quickly (so they could sell them). They showed me how they were going to fix some issues - 2x4 along wall where I wanted the soffit removed. The problem with the length of the tube or whatever it was going to the plumbing vent.
2. One cabinet was chipped on an outside edge so the contractor hung it upside down. Would've worked buy that side of the cabinet was the wrong color. Nothing to do with Vitaly and his contractors were the cabinets - door stain/grain did not match; even on the pantry which had four doors. Had to reorder one cabinet twice because it came in chipped. A few other cabinets & doors were also reordered. Medallion Cabinets rep wasn't really understanding in quality control. Vitaly did support my case in how the cabinets should look
3. Door & handle tweaking where handled nicely (put up a bunch of sticky notes).
4. Clean up of the kitchen after the project was completed was ok. Paint spatter on the ceiling light is unsightly though.
The not so good:
1. Removal of construction debris was not handled quickly. Usually got an excuse of the trailer was elsewhere. My husband eventually got rid of it thru our garbage service.
2. I requested the walls be prepped before the cabinets were installed so I could prime & paint. It is much easier to paint without cabinets. Vitaly did not agree so up went the cabinets. I did do some of the wall prep to keep things going and so I could paint.
3. The installation was not done correctly. When I checked out the drawers & doors, the drawer on the blind corner cabinet wouldn't open because the adjacent drawer was there. One of the contractors suggestions?-cut off a side of the drawer facing. Really??? How about shifting the base cabinets to the right on that wall and enlarging the corner spacing? This was done at my request because after spending a few thousand on cabinets, I don't think you cut them up.
4. Communication was difficult with the contractors. But was worse between Vitaly & the electrical contractors. Recessed lighting was incorrectly installed. They weren't put in the areas where I had selected. This did turn out ok as I liked them where they are. But still the communication aspect was not there.
5. Came home one day and the contractors said they had to leave right away for an appointment or something. After they left, I looked in the kitchen to see what had been done and discovered the cook top on my stove shattered. Why didn't the contractor stick around to tell me about it? Turns out something was dropped on it. The cooktop was not replaceable. Per Vitaly, since it was an old oven he would put $250 towards the purchase of another and had me look at a couple on Craigs List. Those were not comparable to mine. Should have been a new stove paid by Vitaly. My stove was in great condition. I was not going to replace my appliances during the remodel since they were in very good condition and I liked them. Instead I ordered a new stove and microwave (decided to go black) from an acquaintance of his at Sears. That was another ordeal as it was difficult to get ahold of the acquaintance. Took about a month but finally a new stove & microwave were installed. I feel as though $250 was not enough although I didn't dispute it. Hind sight is 20-20.
6. Too long of work stoppage gaps. One was for about six weeks while countertops were ordered. Electricians would not put in the ceiling lighting until the countertops were in. I can see why pendant lights would need to wait but not ceiling lighting. I felt that there were other projects that were more important and that less time was dedicated to my project.
7. Removal of damaged cabinets (shipping, mfg fault), boxes & other debris after project completion not handled. Was taken care of myself & husband. The ole trailer at another job site excuse.
8. There is something sticking out of the plumbing vent on the roof. I think it has to do with the tube they replaced. I asked Vitaly about it as my concern is how will winter affect it? Is it properly installed? No response.
9. I felt Vitaly should have been onsite more often overseeing the project.
The Ds & Fs:
1. The D for overall is for the length of the project and for the not good issues above. The D for quality is for some of the workmanship - ceiling is wavy, paint on light, caulking on cabinet by window to hide poor cuts. As for the electricians, I called them to correct a couple of switch problems. I got the 'we don't know when we could make it way over there', this after I paid the bill.
2. The Fs for Professionalism and Responsiveness are more on Vitaly. I would call or email and it would be days or weeks for a response. The BIG issue is that when the project was completed on July 2, Vitaly was to stop by and go over the project. He did not show. Made another time for July 17. He did not show. I called & emailed to get together & settle the account and for him to review the work - yes I did have some things that needed to be amended (the caulk on the cabinet looks terrible). I have not heard from him since July 1. I contacted Angie's List to see if the Big Deal was paid off. It was. HOW CAN YOU GET PAID WHEN I HAVE NOT SEEN ANY INVOICES, BILLABLE HOURS, RECEIPTS FOR STOVE & MICROWAVE, RECEIPTS FOR CONSTR MATLS AND COUNTERTOPS? Since I did pay for cabinets, which were the big expense, did not replace the floor & fridge, I thought there may be a refund. I wanted to see how everything added up.
.

I called Construction As Investment in March and April and he never got back with me. He said the bathroom would cost me more because the bathroom was bigger than the Big Deal required. He sent someone out to demo the bathroom. A few days later, the plumber came out and we smelled liquor on his breath. He then filed right through the bathroom wall and into the bedroom. The previous owner had illegally hooked up the bathtub so that forced to me re-wire the whole house. Terry (the electrician) was extremely unprofessional. He charged me $2,600 ? I was paying him directly.

At this point, I tried to fire him and he said I couldn?t because we had a contract. I had to design my own bathroom. The tiler came in and wanted to just put tile on the edge and not the rounded tile. I was not comfortable with him finishing my tiling. I do not think the owner came out to check on anyone that he has sub-contracted for this project. He has charged me for everything, including the dumpster for which he said in the contract that he would cover that. He agreed to pay for $1,200 worth of material. He?s threatened to put a lean against my house. He?s angry because I haven?t trusted his work. I hired someone new to finish the bathroom.

We are absolutely thrilled with the bathroom remodels performed by Construction as Investment, LLC. We needed to remodel two of our three bathrooms. The two bathrooms are of moderate size, yet we had received estimates ranging from $25-$50,000, which seemed extreme. We then saw the big deal the company was offering for a full bathroom remodel for $5,000 and purchased two of the big deals after researching and finding good reviews on their work.

Vitaly was the project manager and he took the time to answer our questions and provided good suggestions for a few tricky details in our spaces. He also provided all of the needed measurements and instructions so we could confidently go and pick out all of the materials we wanted to use. This was especially helpful with the tile since my wife and I have never done a project with tile before and weren't experts by any means at understanding what to look for and what we would need. Before and during the remodels, I primarily communicated with Vitaly by texting and he was always prompt in responding. This method of communicating was quick and efficient and made it easy to keep the work moving.

Viktor is the companies "bathroom guy" and is an amazing craftsman and hard worker. He actually did both bath remodels all on his own, yet completed the work quicker than the time estimates we had gotten from the other companies that had given us estimates. And it wasn't from cutting corners, etc. Instead, Viktor's work was outstanding. Our city inspector even remarked about the high quality of workmanship on the remodels. Viktor is a very kind, quite and honorable individual. Because we had two bathroom remodels, Viktor spent a fair amount of time in our home and he really felt like a friend by the time the remodels were complete. We were actually sad when the remodels were finished because it meant we wouldn't see him anymore. When has anyone ever said that about someone working in their home? Our nanny homeschools our youngest daughter, so they and our dog were around the house each day with Viktor. He was always friendly to them and they enjoyed seeing him each day.

About a month after the remodels were complete, we had a crack in the grout in the corner of one of the showers. I texted Vitaly and he made arrangements for Viktor to stop back over one evening and make the repair. There was no hassle in resolving the issue and it was nice to see their commitment to doing the right thing even after the work is over and they've been paid.

We had a tremendous experience with this company and would highly recommend them to others looking for a company that does good work and stands behind it.

I have worked with Vitaly in the past on a previous project of similar size and scope. The project proceeded as planned with no surprises. Pretty much on schedule and the only changes to the budget were extra things I requested and he made sure that I understood the cost of the changes in advance. I will be working with him on my next project!
I purchased a Big Deal which was supposed to entitle us to 40 hours of labor from this company. They completed one project for us, spending at most 30 hours on it, probably less, and we never got the remaining 10 hours of work. To be honest, I haven't pushed to get the work, either. The painting that was done in our house was sloppy and the painter left a mess behind. There is paint splatter on the floors and moulding and on some of our furniture. I will never use this company again.
"The same contractor has worked on 12 other projects for me, and we received an EXCELLENCE AWARD last YEAR! AND honestly if that was the case, why didn't you say anything at the time, I could have made my contractor go back and do touch ups or cleaning or whatever else is required. You were ignorant at the time and didn't care, and all of a sudden almost a year later, you decided to write a review???"

The project went extremley well! I was very impressed with the attention to detail and the open communication on how things were going along the way. They met every one of my requests and were very clear with me how much time things would take and how much money it would cost. I experienced no big surprises as a result of their crystal clear communication. The project awas completed in a very timely manner and the primary person who did our bathroom (Victor) was fabulous! I have been so very pleased with my new bathroom and would absolutly use their services again!
I cannot warn people enough about this company! The work started on time but wasn't completed until 3 months after it was scheduled to be done (we agreed to a 10 day completion schedule). The owner was unresponsive to calls and texts. Additionally, despite being told numerous times about the stringent building codes in our area, the owner assured us that he would take care of all of the permits and inspections. He failed to pull permits and failed both inspections, and then had the gall to complain to us that the city inspections were causing him to "lose sleep" because of the inconvenience to him. The repairs ordered by the city inspector resulted in cutting and then repair to the new drywall, removing a section of the vanity, rerouting plumbing in the basement, and redoing the electrical work they had just completed. On top of the delays, we were rarely informed when workers would be arriving at our house or approximate times of inspections. The times we were told came the evening before or the morning of the expected work or appointments. We have a small child, animals and two demanding schedules and their poor communication led to frequent scrambling of appointments, day care and kenneling. On top of the terrible customer service, we only received an apology after my wife, who consults in sales, confronted him directly about the inappropriateness of asking us to sympathize with him about all the trouble the inspectors were putting him through-- particularly when she had told him repeatedly how strict our city inspectors are. The bathroom looks nice now, but the hassle was terrible. I would look elsewhere for your remodeling projects.
Response from Construction As Investment LLC
"I can't believe that I am getting such a bad review here. How can you say that I am a bad communicator if I communicated with your wife throughout the entire process. You were not even involved at all!!! You got upset over the fact that Electrician's employee who is not working for me and a 3rd party, showed up the day after he did his work without a warning and I understand the inconvenience (you had to put the dog in the cannel -wow), but we are all people, and if the electrician didn't communicate to me, I don't believe that it would be enough basis to put stress on bad communication. So that's one. While you were on vacation we have completed your bathroom in 7 days and not 10. The bathroom looked beautiful and your wife complimented us and your family used it immediately upon return from vacation. But it is true that we got in trouble with permits, the city required us to pull building permit on tiling walls that no other city requests. So we had to come back and open walls so we can pass permits. Who do you think paid for all that labor, materials and permits??? Ask anyone in the business who pays for permits when they are being pulled? it's always the customer and not a general contractor! I never asked to reimburse me for any extra charge, but of course how would you know about it if you were not involved. I can tell that you are not a business owner and you take everything for granted. If you realized that your bathroom remodeled should of costed you $8,000 in labor only (based on complexity and design of tile and special electrical/plumbing needs) and you only paid for labor of my workers not including electrician $3,800, you wouldn't complain so much. At the end I made on your home a nice profit of minus $650 and I didn't say anything to you or your wife. I don't know if you expected a free job, or what else I could have done, but I did learn my lesson and now I express to the customers that there will be extra fees associated with pulling permit. However, I must admit that reading your message it sounds like a big baby whining. Sorry if I am offending you,but I am offended by your review. The review is written several month after the job was completed and you probably had a bad day and decided to spill it out without realizing how much you are hurting me or my business. Good luck in your life and hope you don't ruin other business's life and reputation. Please don't ever contact me again."

Vitaly met me at the property and conducted a thorough walkthrough with me to understand the work to be completed. He provided helpfull suggestions. Once we agreed on the scope of work, he provided me a written estimate. Throughout the process Vitaly was always clear on the cost of any changes. He also provided me with options and made sure I understood the cost of those options and abided by my decisions. Vitaly indicated at the beginning he did not want final payment until I was fully satisfied with the entire project and he made sure I was completly happy before requesting a final payment. He estimated the project would take ten weeks and all work was completed in 11 weeks which is understandable given the magnitud and complexity of this project.
We stayed in communication throughout and he generally responded to my inquiries whitin a few hours.
I am totally happy with the outcome of the project and I will use this company in my next project!
In addition I found all of Vitaly's crew to be polite and very helpful and accommodating.

The job went wonderfully! Vitaly Chirnikh called me shortly after I bought the deal and was available to start the project quickly, but I needed to clear out the basement (merging two households and too much stuff to work around), do some wall painting, get some flooring installed and get base/casing/French door for the project. It took me most of the spring/summer to get that done.
I contacted Vitally in August and scheduled our project for the week of Sept. 17 - 24. I confirmed our project schedule with Vitaly the week before the start date and he showed up promptly on Monday, Sept. 17 to go over the contract, to review the project and to clarify specifics of the project. Vitaly was very professional and has pride in his workmanship.
Peter was the base/casing contractor that did the actual work; he arrived shortly after Vitaly. Peter spoke limited English, so Vitaly clarified with Peter the specifics of the project and Peter got to work. Both were very pleasant and polite.
Vitaly recommended that we take a look at the work each night and to call him if there were any issues so that they could be corrected before the job got too far along or if we needed to communicate something to Peter. He also warned me that it was going to be a bit of a dusty job.
Our basement is a walk-out, so we unlocked the basement door each morning and Peter just let himself in/out for the workday. Peter was efficient and except for nailgun/saw noises, we hardly knew he was here.
Peter installed casing on nine doors (two were 5-ft closet doors that he worked some "trim magic" to give the closet casing a really nice look) and two windows, installed base in a bathroom, a bedroom area, a large, irregular common area, and a 16 x 14 room, installed skirt boards in an "L" shaped stairway, which can be a challenge (Peter made some "transition pieces" in various areas where the skirt boards and base met. He also installed an interior pre-hung double French door and it was installed perfectly. He also installed an "L" shaped "box" made from two pieces of oak for the ugly cement block ledge by the patio door that needed to be hidden/made pretty for future carpet.

At the end of the week, Peter cleaned up the area as best he could before leaving on Friday. He put all scrap in the trash can as he worked and swept up the major sawdust and put it in the trash can, too, but it is a very dusty job and I expected to vacuum up/wipe down the fine sawdust after, which I did over the weekend. The basement looks great! We ran out of contractor time to do the caulking/nail hole filling, but that can be done later; the big stuff all got done, which was my goal for the week. All we need now is to fill nail holes, caulk, paint the base/casing and install carpet and the basement will be completely done.
I appreciated that Peter was very careful of our freshly painted walls. We had a lot of big stuff/furniture in our basement to work around and we pushed as much as we could to the middle and our intent was to move stuff around to the finished areas to open up other areas for Peter to work, but we didn't want to accidentally put stuff in Peter's way if he wasn't done in an area. Peter ended up moving some of the stuff himself, which we feel bad about as it wasn't our intent to make him deal with that aspect of the job.
Even though Peter's English was limited, communication was not a problem as he would either leave us a note (such as "need four feet of this" left on a piece of base) or he would call Vitaly, who would call me (for instance, Peter wanted to know which way we wanted the French doors to swing).
We are very happy with the quantity and quality of the work that got done and with Vitaly's professionalism and Peter's workmanship and work ethic.

The workmanship was good for the work that was done. Because I was not present during this remodel, I had to reley on the contractor to complete the work as desribed in the Bid.This work was done at my Son's home. After the fact, I believe the remodel shorted my Son on the Cabinet, toilet ,medicine cabinet, tile and exhaust fan.

"I wish you were present as you bought the coupon and you did not notice that we had $1200 budget limit for the materials included in the coupon. Neither your nor your son was involved in the entire process and it was his wife that had worked with us. So I feel that it would be only fair that she gave us the review. I have spent close to $1400 on this project and wanted to forgive the difference because the wife of your son was so easy to work with, but after this review I will be sending you a reciept and will demand the difference under the term of coupon. The wife was really really please with the job done, and I am surprised that you are not rating us with all A's???? She complemented my worker's work all the way."

Vitaly is wonderful. We were moving into our house in a couple weeks and we *really* wanted to have the bathroom renovation completed before we moved in. He truly went out of his way to make sure this happened and everything was up to our standards. Throughout the whole process, Vitaly was very concerned with our satisfaction and assured us that if anything was not up to our standards, he would personally take care of it. It was very apparent to us that Vitaly truly cares about the quality of the work that he does; he is not someone that is just trying to "get the job done;" he is someone who wants his clients to be happy with the end product. He is the best of the best and I would highly recommend him to anyone (and have!).

The contractor was extremely professional. He arrived punctually and worked long hours each day. He was neat and took steps to keep demolition dust, etc. from the rest of the house. He started with a complete demolition, installed new backer board and installed the new tile that we had selected. He painted the room as needed and installed a new vanity, shower door and shower head and faucets. The work was done in five days as promised and looks great. The contractor was the best we have worked with. We would definitely use his services again. We couldn't be more pleased with the finished product. A great value.

Vitally worked with me to decide which parts of the project would give me the most benefit for my money. He was easy to work with, responded quickly to questions and his experience in remodeling helped me stay on budget. I appreciated that I could ask for his advice on painting even though I would be doing the painting myself. The workmen did a great job, were prompt and cleaned up every day before they left. Quality work is clearly important to this company.

I bought the deal over the new year's weekend and Vitaly, the owner emailed me while on vacation from out of the country to assure me I was on his list. We got the work scheduled and it was completed without a hitch.

The work is beautiful and the transformation to the house is stunning.

We were very happy with the work performed. The entire project was very well managed from start to finish. Workers did an excellent job keeping our upstairs livable and dust free during construction.

They did an amazing job. Everything was completed on time and within budget. They were also helpful in advising on the trade offs of different materials etc.

I have used this company in the past and this time it was no different. No suprises, very professionaly handled remodel! I was informed on a regular basis of the status on the project. The house went on the market and we got it under contract in just 4 days!!! This should tell you something?
Very happy with Vitaly and his company - Construction As Investment LLC
