Very satisfied. Good professional job
Put in vent for kitchen microwave (including purchased for us at cost a new microwave) and vented through the wall and out the roof.
Fixed leak around skylight on roof w/ elaborate and what appears to be effective solution to a chronic problem we were having
He even fixed our broken door closer for free.

Despite apparent successful initial installiton of the microwave vent. It does not vent to the outside of the house. This was the same problem we had before, it blows back into the house. We have been told it was installed wrong by an inspector and that it needs to be corrected. Conway General Contracting will no longer return our calls or emails that I have sent via Angie's List website.

Leak occurred from top floor unit down onto ceiling and walls of 2nd floor unit in a condoized 3 family in South Boston. Dan Conway came out and assessed the damage, assured us that there was no remaining wetness and mold behind wall. 2nd floor owner wanted to take a look behind the wall so Dan removed a small section of wall to confirm. Wall and wood was dry.
Hole was patched, stain blocker applied, and walls and ceiling were painted. Work took 3 visits to house. After work was completed and Dan was paid, we noticed another blotch on wall and Dan came back and fixed without a new invoice. Will do business again.
Dan provided a competitive quote, did a quality job and on time, cleaned up after
he finished, and best of all with no supervision. Just
handed him the keys, went on vacation and the job was complete when we came
back. A man of few words, he allows the quality of his work to speak for itself.
Dan and his crew did a fine job. They arrived on time and completed the work on schedule. The closets they built fully met our expectations and the doors installed all swing smoothly. Dan was extremely flexible, enabling us to add on some other jobs (e.g. tiling the bathroom floor) along the way. His crew was polite and respectful and they cleaned up at the end of each day. The work was reasonably priced and did not exceed the estimate. We were so pleased with Dan's work that we have asked him to undertake a second job building his-and-her closets in the master bedroom. He is a reliable and skilled craftsman.

He showed up late the first day, but he did call. He didn't show up the following day. He said he left a message but I never got it.

I don't know how he gets all "A"s. He must have friends and/or family get AL subscriptions to grade him. He rushed through everything. He almost had a meltdown trying to close an old weighted double hung window. It wouldn't close because he put 3 coats of paint on the rope. It got so stiff it wouldn't allow the window to move.He was in way too much of a hurry. The surface he re-plastered came out terrible (see pics). The paint he used had dried flakes of paint that he just embedded into the wall. He missed sections, there are lots of drips and dings in the surface. He sloppily painted the window sills, he did a bit of sanding and scraping then proceeded to paint over those scrapings and embed them in the new paint. He didn't remove the escutcheon plates on the door and tried, unsuccessfully to cut in around them. He left paintbrush hairs embedded in the wall. He tried to paint the window frame without taping the glass or using a razor blade to remove the dry paint from the glass. He left a mess too. My entire bedroom was coated in drywall/spackle dust. He damaged my hallway wall moving in and out all his equipment and tracked wet plaster across my carpet that later dried hard. By the 4th day, I just wanted him out of my home. I could tell he just didn't have that fine attention to detail. I put N/A for price because eventhough he met his estimate, it was a crappy job.
Response from Conway General Contracting
"This was the first I was ever made aware that there was a problem on this job. I am by no way perfect, but I do try to give people a fair price and good quality work. We skim coated over existing hose hair plaster and painted two closets that where previously painted. The customer told me up until the day we left his home that he was very happy and was going to refer me to his relatives. So I am in complete shock of this report. If he called me told me there was any problem at all, I would of came back and tried to take care of any issues he had. All my previous customers that have left me reports I by no way knew prior to doing work with. I am sorry this client feels this way as I thought he was a nice person. And my goal was only to provide him with a project he would be happy with and continue to do work with him."

Dan and his crew are quick, unintrusive, and friendly. They were only in my place for a couple of work days, and left it clean on both days.
They chose a subtle, attractive color scheme, and I was very happy with the quality of the work done. The place looks great.

He used bead board only on the front of the island, although we had discussed using it on three sides. I asked him to finish it the way it was written out on the estimate. He had to purchase more bead board and then re-do the bead board work already done.
For the counter top, Dan used 1/2" plywood that warped overnight so he had to install a heavier duty plywood the next day. As requested, he painted the top black, but he also went ahead and painted black the two columns that run to the ceiling. I had him re-paint the columns back to the original white. He did not finish off the edges, but rather used a router to give it the "finished look". He said half-round or a bull-nose finish would not work with regular usage. As a finish coat, he used a spray can lacquer. I was not pleased that he used the spray can in the house, but he said he did it "all the time" without problem. The next day I had particulate residue all over my furniture, floors, television, window blinds, etc. I spent a good amount of time dusting and cleaning the room. The surface of the counter top was streaky, with swipe marks on it; an unattractive surface. The base molding work was fine. No comments there. I contacted Dan the next day to let him know how the lacquer particulate residue had settled on the furniture and how the counter top surface was streaky and smudged.
2/21/12 Update: Dan returned to address the counter top surface. He sanded and repainted the top with another coat of black paint and returned again later the same day to apply a lacquer coat. This time around he used a roller to apply the lacquer. The surface dried smoothly without streaks.

"I take pride in my work and do intend on trying to make every customer happy . I did every aspect of contracting that was agreed upon in our contract . Every request the customer made as far as repainting columns and adding added bead board to the side of the bar / counter top , I completed right away . I thoroughly cleaned her home and when I left her home after she inspected she mentioned about calling me for up coming projects . I did not receive a message from the customer until late Sunday night as I was at my sons wrestling tournament all day followed by a friend and family gathering for the Superbowl. I accidentally deleted her message once I listen to it, and followed up on Monday by going by the home and leaving an envelope with letter apologizing for her not being happy and I sent two emails to her and phone calls . It is unfortunate that I have a family vacation planned and will be leaving prior to resolving this, as the home owner will not be home to after 7 Tuesday night. I do plan on taking care of the spray lacquer finish as soon as I return that was smudged (that looked finished once I left )in one of the corner that the customer has mentioned. I never will and I never have taken advantage of a customer. I do try to the best of my ability to turn over a professional product on all levels every job that I do. I was shocked once I saw this report as within 24 hours of a phone call that was left to me I showed up on site with the material to correct the problem, and left multiple emails. As you can see from my other reports I do try and will to continue to treat every customer with respect and turn over a quality product, and if there are any issues at all with cleaning or quality of work I will take care of them. At the time when I did leave this job once the final inspection was completed by myself and the customer I did not see any of these issues that where mentioned to me by a message on Sunday afternoon ."

I am pleased to submit a positive report for Conway General Contracting. Dan and Chris did a couple of small jobs in my condo unit and some much larger jobs for the 5 unit brownstone I own a unit in. In my unit, they replaced a track light and repaired my bathroom sink. I'm so happy to have both of these problems solved!! The larger jobs included replacing a very warped, rusted, and worn basement door, installing several outdoor lights, and some masonry repair. I think their prices are fair and the work is very good. I also appreciate that they will give options re: proposed repairs. It's nice to feel as if you can choose how and what work is to be done. I will most definitely use their services again.

He is there when he says he will be. His estimates are always on target and reasonable. He leaves a room cleaner than what he found it. He does large and small jobs. He is dependable and honest. I have been using him for about 3 years now. He is someone that I know will do the job right, he has even traveled to Maine for me to work on my other home. His work is pristine. His beadboard work is beautiful. Also, his staff and employees are excellent.

Dan and his entire team were great to work with and we were so pleased with the work, we are now using him for another renovation project for the house. Our original project was a messy one - water damage that affected three out of the four condominium units in our building. The work was relatively small scale but involved all of the trades which made it a project that was difficult to find a contractor who was interested and qualified. His estimate was very competitive and was able to do the work right away. He was great about communication throughout the process and was very neat with the work. These qualities were particularly valuable because of the multiple units and owners, two of whom work at home. There were unforeseen conditions that arose and we added some scope to the work along the way and his pricing for these items were very fair as well.

I highly recommend Conway General Contracting for projects of this scale.

My roof was damaged in Irene. Dan came over right away and gave us the estimate need for the insurance claim and was willing to wait until the insurance was settled. As soon as the insurance settled he scheduled us and came when he said he would and finished when he said he would. He keeped us informed concerning the color of the new roofing shingles that were going to have to be used.

We used Dan last year to paint the exterior of the house and again he was everything we could ask for..
