I was getting quotes for the work from a couple of different companies, but I hired him, even though he didn’t have the lowest cost, due to his high reviews on Angie's List. We paid him half the money up front. It took him two days to do the work, and we couldn’t check the work because it was dark outside. He was supposed to come by for a walkthrough, but since our schedules didn’t mesh, and we paid him anyway. We inspected the work and some areas look just as bad as they did before the repair. I’ve tried to call him and have left voice messages to discuss these issues, but I have yet to hear back from him, and it’s been over a month.

Project went off without a hitch. Doug the owner was quick and responsive from the time I contacted him for an estimate until the time the project was completed. I was impressed with the professionalism, quality of work and knowledge Doug and his crew showed to make sure the job was done right. They kept their work area clean while on site and paid great detail to match the motoar since we have a older home from the early 1900s.They were very friendly and outgoing. I felt secure with my choice of Courtney Masonry and highly recommend them for this type of work.
Price-wise not the lowest but I went with him after reviewing his reviews and was not disappointed. Work was carried out as promised - on-time, cleaned up after work and followed up with questions.
We have lived in this house about a year. (The house is 12 years old). When we bought the house the inspection report noted that there were cracks in the masonry due to normal settlement. The inspection report noted that these should be repaired to prevent water penetration. Doug did a full inspection of the exterior of the house to locate all cracks in bricks and masonry.
It went very well. All the work done was outside we had a couple of delays due to weather - Severe thunderstorms.
Doug and his crew arrived on time and had all the work done in short order.
The job site was cleaned up and my back porch was much cleaner after they left than it was before they started!

Doug did a little bit of everything in the concrete and mason services for us. He poured, repaired and built new. Everything was done with high professionalism and quality. The biggest project was our patio steps which were dangerous and out dated. He cut out a new line in the raised patio and built new brick steps to better fit the flow of the back yard. The new steps look great and are much safer. He had to remove a lot of concrete and dirt and then rebuild so this was a big project. His team works hard and are very professional. I would use Doug again!
The quality of work is totally unacceptable; any reasonable person would conclude the same. While doing the work they also seriously damaged the back yard. Despite the higher price I choose Doug because I felt I would get the best job. I was very, very wrong. To summarize here are the issues:
The patio is 7 inches out of square.

The gutter downspout and corrugated pipe was supposed to be run under the under the concrete. This was not done and is an eyesore.

They destroyed half of my back yard; the sod was totally destroyed, there are wheel ruts everywhere. It was left as a very muddy mess. I am going to have to bring someone in to level it out and install sod. Bids to correct their damage range from $3,000 to $4,000.

They were going to fix a fence post at the corner of the patio. The cement added to the post on the fence left it much worse than it was, it is falling over.

The most unacceptable is the driveway extension. The right side has a huge hump in it. There is no reason the grade would dictate that the concrete actually rise. The grading is just not acceptable. Bids to tear and and repour range from $2,000 to $2,850.
I have reached out to Doug and asked him to address these issues and he has not been willing to address anything.
I have plenyt of pictures and will try to add them.
BUYER BEWARE!!!!!

"As far as the gutter, I was not aware the home owner wanted it into the patio. As far as the patio being out of square one of my guys did make a mistake on that. The next day once the mistake was realized, I told the home-owner that we could cut it and fix it. The homeowner told me to wait and let him think about it. The front driveway extension where there is a hump indicated by the homeowner. Due to grade and the slope so the water runs off properly. As far as the backyard we tried to wait until it was as dry as possible. There is no way to remove 3 to 4 yards of dirt without causing some damage. I indicated that to the homeowner. My crew and I racked the yard to try and regrade the yard as best as possible."

Doug Courtney is courteous and attentive; his crew skilled and conscientious. They installed a drainage system and 40.5ft x 23ft concrete pad which wraps around a 24ft x 12ft shed. It took 2 days to complete this job, one to prepare the site, the other to pour and finish the concrete. One of the first things to impress me was their punctuality - arriving early they would do a little equipment prep work and then proceed to the job site on time. The pad is nicely finished and properly pitched, funneling water into the drain and moving the rest away from the shed.
This experience has convinced me to hire Courtney Masonry for a larger project this spring, and a couple of other projects I have in mind for the future.
Courtney and workers performed the job flawlessly, quickly scheduling the first visit to estimate costs, providing a prompt and detailed estimate, starting on time, and finishing on time. They were extremely careful and did excellent work while keeping the area clean and avoiding any damage to adjacent landscaping. All workers were polite, quiet, and productive. Each night they stowed their equipment per our agreement in a low-visibility area and cleaned up completely. The pavers in the herringbone pattern are beautiful and will add to the value of our home. We highly recommend Courtney Masonry to anyone and shall certainly ask them to do any masonry work we might need in the future.
Guys were quick and efficient. Doug's team missed a couple of spots, and Doug came back out himself to touch up the missed areas a few days later. Steps look great, and I am no longer concerned someone's going to fall from a loose brick.
I'd hire these guys again.

It really went well. I had a number of estimates done, and after speaking with Doug about the work and price, chose him, It was a good experience with Doug and his crew. They did everything well, on time and on schedule. The work started Monday afternoon and was completed and paid for on Thursday morning. They even repaired around my chimney; that was not in the estimate! I noticed after they left that some of the brick had a white sheet (efflorescence I think it is called). I called Doug about it and he sent Dan back to clean up with muriatic acid he follwing week! They are hard workers and very cooperative!
Doug Courtney's quote was very realistic and he assured me he could correct the damaged area to match the original brick color and mortar shade so that there would be no evidence a problem had existed. He was right. He and his men were very efficient, and left our property very clean at the end of the day. We were 100% satisfied with the job. I highly recommend Courtney Masonry and Concrete.
The work was completed over a two-day period. As with the earlier task, the work was accomplished in a most satisfactory manner. The brick style used in my home is out of production, but the bricks found to match were perfect. The crew members that performed the work are experienced brick masons. They discovered a couple of areas needing repair that had been missed when my wife and I had surveyed the areas to be repaired originally. Doug personally scopes out the work to be done and follows up after job completion; he was most accommodating in working out scheduling, as I was anxious to have this work done as soon as possible. I will definitely continue to use Courtney Masonry for any future masonry-related tasks as I have confidence in their skill, workmanship, and professionalism.

Doug was very punctual in providing an estimate but we did have several delays for various reasons. Once we established the pattern and the stone choices and Doug worked through some supplier issues, the work was completed quickly. When I was not happy with a portion of the steps Doug was very open to changes, came up with some good options, and quickly returned to fix the problem. He mentioned several times that he wanted the customer to be happy with the result and backed that up with actions.

Response from Courtney Masonry and Concrete
"Thank you for the great report. Sorry for the delays. That was out of my hands due to the product being out of stock which the supplier said wasn't. So I found a more reliable supplier who had the stone."

My brick house is 20 years old and over time some minor cracking in the mortar or missing mortar at various locations around the house. Nothing overly serious, just time related minor settlement. Plus when I moved in the house 12 years ago the realtor had someone fix one of the locations and they did not match the mortar color very well and it was very noticeable.
Doug came out and gave me a quote, plus pointed out some areas I had overlooked. Plus he offered to grind out and re-mortar the area that was done poorly 12 years ago. It took about a month for our schedules to match and Doug's team came out it took about a day to grind out the old mortar and apply new mortar which matched the color perfectly. You can't even tell where the cracks were any more and the work looks professional, neat and clean. The color matching is an art, and had to be mixed slowly by hand. They even touched up some areas we had not seen before.
Highly recommend this to be done for older brick homes as the cracks can let in wasps, rain, and outside air/humidity. If you looking for someone to do this, you won't find a better craftsmen than Doug and his team.
My husband and I were both sick over the very poor workmanship of another company we had tear out our old porch and steps and
create new with bricks. We had not signed up to Angie's List prior to making our decision which was based on the recommendation
of a gentlemen who did concrete work for us on a walkway.
When the other people could not complete their job in a professional manner, we knew we had to call in another brick layer. That's when I went back to Angie's List and called Doug Courtney of Courtney Brick and Masonry. This young man punctually came to our house and we explained the situation and he could see for himself the job performed was not correct as it should have been. He very professionally outlined what he could do to correct and when he could start the job. Rain delayed the start date by two days but he called each day to let us know it would be done as soon as rain stopped. Sure enough, he started and completed the job exactly as described and in two days, even with us adding a little more detail work we wanted completed.
My husband and I were highly impressed with Doug and his workers. They worked this project like it was their very own steps and porch they were doing. We cannot say enough about their professionalism, expertise and great price. We are very, very happy and our neighbors love our new porch and steps! We highly recommend this company to everyone.
They were extremely punctual -- right on time for both the estimate and the job date. They ran into some unexpected issues with the floor being in worse shape than expected, but stuck to the original estimate. Could not have asked for more, and will definitely call them again when ready to tackle my outdoor patio issues.
Doug and his crew worked over a weekend at my request. We were up against a tight timeline to move into a just purchased house. There was a concrete basement floor which had been soiled badly by animals. It was covered with peel-n-stick tiles. It took alot of work to remove the old tiles and clean the floor. I wish we would have had more time to pick a painted finish but we did not. The floor is clean and the bad smells are gone. It looks like plain bare concrete but we have put down area rugs. The seal is good. Water beads up on top of the finish, like on a rainex windshield.
Doug went out of his way to accomodate our schedule. From start of negotiations to the finished, sealed floor was less than a week. I wish we would have had more time (for a painted floor and then sealer), but we did not.

Very happy with the repairs and overall quality of the work performed by Doug and his team of employees. Sections of the walkway were heavily molded and had become a safety concern. Doug's team restored the red bricks to "like new" condition. The pressure washing, however identified sections of the walkway set in concrete that required repair. Doug and his team removed all the damaged grout and replaced it before re-sealing the walkway at the end of the project. Doug took before and after pictures of the damaged chimmey to demonstrate to me the extent of the repairs. Doug and his team were meticulous in making sure that the work area was neat and maintained. They left the worksite in better condition then when they arrived. The job took a total of two days to complete.
